The Sunday we'll dig deep into a famous Bible verse about God being the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end, the one who was, and is, and is to come. As we do so, we'll wrestle with: (a) what it means to say that God exists outside of time, and (b) what it means to say that Jesus is the God of my past, the God of my present, and the God of my future. All this may sound theoretical, but it actually has profound real-life application.

In this episode I first talk about the connection between clutter and grief and the various life events that can cause us to be grieving, since that is not only when we lose loved ones. Often these challenging times can lead to a buildup of belongings that serve as a shield against the pain of loss that we don't want to process. That is also the reason why decluttering is often more than tidying up; it's an emotional confrontation but more importantly a step towards healing. In the second part I talk with my special guest Melissa Harris and we unearth the emotional baggage of clutter tied to grief and life's transitions.  Losing a loved one or going through a major life upheaval can leave us grappling with grief that society often tells us to quickly move past. Melissa shares her experiences with loss, reflecting on the limited time we're given by society to grieve and the profound need to create spaces where our emotions are valued and heard. Together we bring to light the importance of support systems, may it be therapy or a grief groups, hiring a grief coach or a clutter clearing coach, this kind of support is helping us process these emotions rather than letting them manifest in harmful ways (or clutter in your home) Find the full shownotes hereSign up for a FREE Chaos2Peace-Jumpstart discovery call http://bit.ly/c2p-discoverFrom Chaos to Peace Consulting Inc - https://connygraf.comConnect with me on LinkedInGet to know the more private me on Instagram orLike and Follow my Facebook Page

But February 29th only happens every four years, and obviously, it can make the intensity of the weight of grief even more difficult.  Take a drive "across that Memphis Bridge" with Mary Anne as she revisits the most difficult days of her life. She shares how the broken system of her parents' care throttles her passion in offering hope for caregivers by fascillitating The Veranda Ministries respite program for those with dementia and Alzheimer's. Supportive friends and family, along with your own quality of health and well-being, can play a role in how grief impacts you following bereavement. One of the struggles that hit every family in some way is when you lose someone you love. Today's guest, Mike Nappa, lost his beloved wife, Amy, to cancer in 2016. In the years since her passing God has helped him to learn why grieving is such an important part of losing a loved one and how He's taught him how to grieve well.  This is one of the most touching and informative interviews I've done.  Mike has such a heart for those who are walking their own grief journey, and he truly wants to help those who are hurting as well as those who are trying to be there for them and understand their pain and what they need. He shares what one friend does for him every year on the anniversary of his wife's death (which, by the way is September 11) and why that has helped him to not only grieve that day well but also to look forward to it. Mike also talks about how his then three-year-old granddaughter struggled with her own grief and how one teacher recognized and helped her deal with her grief in the middle of a meltdown. He also gives wise advice to someone who is in the depth of despair in their grief journey. Before I interviewed Mike, I asked my mom if she had any questions she'd like me to ask him since she's not quite three years out from losing my dad. He was genuinely happy to answer her question. Mike truly is one of the nicest guys I've ever had the pleasure of talking to and I know our conversation will be a blessing to you. Today, I've decided to go back to the basics of grief, so to speak, back to Grief 101. I'll share with you ten common signs and symptoms of complicated grief as compiled by the Mayo Clinic. You may encounter these symptoms in your first days, weeks, or months after your loss - we almost all will - and due to this fact, I believe it's highly important to understand these symptoms. I've personally found it valuable to understand what we may experience with grief as we journey on this unknown path ahead of us. The more you know the better you are prepared for the various surprises you will encounter and the more successful you will be at navigating your grief.

I'm certain everyone can relate to having some special very people in their lives. People who had our back when the need arose, and held us steady as we stumbled through challenging circumstances - loss and the grief that comes with it being one of our largest challenges, if not the largest. Simply known as our “Support System” - these people are family and friends who often come through for us in ways we could never anticipate and with their own strength that often goes unnoticed. These are the unsung heroes of those who grieve the loss of a loved one. Who, on bended knee, helped to wipe our tears and stand by our side without judgment, but instead, with kind words, a silent hug, and a moment of comfort. This episode is dedicated to those we haven't had the chance to thank enough and those who don't expect anything more than a smile in return. In our grief, we couldn't possibly have come this far without their help.

Have you ever thought about what life would be like without plans? It might seem like an odd thought, but plans give structure to our lives. From going to work or school, to celebrating birthdays or holidays with family, we rely on plans to fill our days. Whether it's attending your son's high school football game, watching your daughter's play, or helping your parents with yard work, plans give us something to look forward to and help shape our days.
Now, imagine having no plans for your life. How would you approach that blank page? Would you feel anxious or excited about the possibilities? It's an interesting thing to contemplate but also a reality for grieving people.

Speaking to others about their grief experiences has helped me better understand grief over the past few years to, if for no other reason than to become aware that everyone's grief is different. Our experiences, our circumstances, every aspect of our loss, and how we attempt to move forward have differences that can enlighten us and help us by presenting us all with a slightly different perspective on grief. To that end, today's episode is a chat I had with an old friend at her suggestion. She reached out offering a concept of living with grief, which she felt others may appreciate. She suggested we discuss an idea she had about grief, "As long as grief is going to be your constant companion, you may as well make friends with it.” In our discussion, we go on to explain why this may be necessary for your loss journey and how it might help. This concept may be considered a bit surprising, but it's one I firmly believe we need to consider for so many reasons. Come along with us as we discuss “Making a Friend of Grief” and why this might be a thought you'd want to consider adopting for your journey.

Episode #96 will speak to those of you who have directly experienced great, personal loss. Although healing from the loss you are feeling at this moment seems to be impossible at times, come with me as I discuss the possibility of healing. If not right now in this moment, sometime in your future. I know all too well we all are experiencing or have experienced despair, sorrow, denial, anger, and even depression, to name only a few “symptoms of grief.” We know that these symptoms can occur over and over again, they don't appear once and then “you're good to go.” This is why grief is so difficult to control and get through because it doesn't fight fair; it is always present no matter how much time has passed, and when you succeed at pushing it aside for a moment, it unexpectedly pops up once again. Grief is a cycle that feels impossible to break. To that end, I'd like to talk about approaching your grief - specifically, the healing you seek – in a different way: through story.

Whether you have personal experience with the passing of a close friend or family member, or you have been touched by death through an “outer-circle” connection, I will assume you understand loss, and all that goes with that knowledge. However, if you've not experienced loss yet, it is difficult to know how to help your friend immediately after loss. Even those of us who have been exposed to loss could probably use a reminder or, better yet, a fresh take on better ways to help someone in their initial days and weeks after a loss. Over the past two years of producing this podcast and living through grief for three years, I've discovered one thing is always true. It's difficult for some people to understand grief. Specifically, it's hard for some to understand what people are actually “going through” daily with their grief. In addition, many don't quite get why grief can never be considered to have an end. To help shed a brighter light on these common and difficult-to-understand truths about grief, I'd like to approach it differently with a poignant question that will hopefully lead to a better understanding. How often do you have the chance with your person, spouse, a close family member, or a friend right now to entertain the phrase, “Remember when…”? Angee not only feels the grief of losing her mom, but she also deeply feels the guilt of knowing that she brought the virus home to her mom. We talk a lot about grief and guilt and healing in this episode. Angee mentions the Yellow Heart Memorial and how connecting with others has helped her. We also talk briefly about the book, Option B, by Sheryl Sandberg. Finally, there is a bit of an up and down audio sound when Angee is speaking sometimes. I've done my best to try to edit it to be more even. As we navigate our grief journey, I'm sure there have been several times you've heard yourself answering a friend's inquiry about how you are doing with, "I'm keeping busy." Here's the question I'd like you to consider today. Have you thought about your answer about "keeping busy"? Are you "keeping busy?" And does it help? Lets discuss this a little more.

Episode 48. Brian in IllinoisI recorded this episode with Brian in Illinois in April 2022 and it was originally supposed to be episode 28. But Brian didn't send me any photos of his mom or him and I put this show on hold. With this podcast headed into a hiatus (more on that below), I decided to air this show and I went through Brian's YouTube channel and pulled some still images from his videos and he did send me some beautiful photos a couple of weeks ago. Brian lost his mom in June of 2021 to complications from COVID. She'd had a number of serious medical emergencies in the last ten years and when she got COVID in February of 2021, though she recovered and came home in April, the overall damage was done and she just didn't get better.  Brian has autism and PTSD and he and his mother lived together for many, many years. They were literally each other's support system. When they got COVID, they both got incredibly ill very quickly and they could not help each other. Brian and his mom were alone for three days before he called 911. Brian also has Long COVID and we spend part of this interview talking about his symptoms and his long term health challenges. Now about the hiatus. My work has picked up a lot and I've found I have less time to work on podcast episodes and everything that goes into producing them. For that reason, I have decided to end season 2 sometime in June and I'm not currently recording any stories. If my work stays this busy, I don't know if there will be a season 3, but for right now, I'll say that I'd like to do a limited season 3 later in the fall. I appreciate everyone who has been a part of this show, who's followed the podcast online on social media and who's listened. It means so much to me and it's been a huge part of my own personal grief and healing journey.  People's Resource Center Brian's  YouTube channel - Artzaganza Brian's GoFundMeFor context on this interview and the ever-changing pandemic, we recorded this episode on April 23, 2022.Support the showIf you've lost a loved one to COVID and would like to share your story on the show, please send me an email. We all understand that losing someone special brings plenty of grief. How we navigate our grief is the key to a successful journey through grief. Our goal through grief should be to survive our loss for our loved ones and ourselves and find a way to move forward. To do so, we need to understand grief better and discover the tools available to do so. Today, we will explore how a healthy conversation with grief can help us accomplish this more confidently and with a positive understanding of the process.

In today's episode I'd like to examine what it means to “Make Room for Hope” in your life after loss and during your grief journey. It's an important aspect of grief which one day will we will all come to face. In my opinion, to live without hope is not to live at all. The ultimate question is how can you best begin to consider making room for hope without ignoring your current feelings of loss and your need to grieve?

I've recently realized, with the help and insight of a new friend, that often, in grief, we focus on the loss and how we came to deal with it and not as much on the tangible suggestions and successes we may have experienced as we attempt to take a step forward from our loss. The common question put forth by someone who's experienced loss is simple; "How do you move forward?" This question never seems to be quickly answered for a good reason… it's nearly an impossible question to answer. However, I believe suggestions can be shared to help guide those contemplating this question. In this episode, I will share things I've heard or tried myself and, at the very least, provide a few suggestions for you to seriously consider when you ask, "How do I take a step forward from my loss?"

Reflecting on life generally is recognizing where we came from, a point in our past. To grow from our experiences, and to strive for better as we move forward, is a noble but essential goal. Through the love instilled within us as we develop and grow, we hope always to find gratefulness not far from our hearts, no matter what we are going through. As we walk our path with grief and discover what tomorrow has to offer, we may find it challenging to carry on. The best way to approach this is not to forget each day ahead is accomplished one step at a time. Join me as we examine the importance of reflecting on life and looking ahead to possibilities.

I've been thinking about how grief shows up in my life and others I know who are dealing with grief. I've been more aware of how I allow my grief to be present in my daily life and with others. It seems to be a question focused on how we, as a society, genuinely see grief in others and what we do with what we see. Do we reach out with a helping hand or an ear to bend, or do we wonder why they haven't "gotten over it" yet? Let's examine together how we see grief and how we can better support someone on their journey with grief.

In today's episode, I will begin by reflecting on how I approach a new calendar year. Instead of resolutions typically engaged in the new year, I choose a word for the year designed to help me focus on the year ahead and provide a clear path of intention. With Spring right around the corner and our lives firmly in the third month of the year, reflecting on how we've approached the new year so far - especially as we deal with grief - is a good way to allow ourselves to readjust if we find the need. More importantly, to reflect on how our approach to this new year is going and to allow ourselves to measure any change we have engaged, goals we may have already achieved, and new projects we may want to reveal to others and ourselves as we attempt to shift perspective for 2023. You will find this episode will do just that. It will reveal a new project I am introducing through the Journey to Grateful podcast, to better help those searching for support that fits their needs.
