On Your World of Creativity, we travel around the world talking with creative professionals who turn ideas into impact. Today we're diving into music and business with Don Rodriguez — a former general contractor who left a 20-year career to pursue his passion for music… and ended up redesigning the record label model itself.Don's WebsiteDon on YouTubeDon's Facebook pageIntroductionDon Rodriguez is an 18-year entrepreneur and general contractor who walked away from a successful construction career after becoming burned out and disillusioned. He pivoted into music — not just as a creative outlet, but as a producer and founder of The I&I Music Studio, a recording studio, record label, and music publisher for independent artists.Drawing on two decades of business and contract experience, Don created a radically different label structure: one where artists own their masters and publishing, while the label generates its own revenue streams and collects points — flipping the traditional industry model on its head.Today, he's here to talk music, ownership, contracts, publishing, and how independent artists can thrive without giving away their future.1 — From Construction to CreationDon, you spent nearly two decades as a general contractor before pivoting into music full-time. What happened internally that made you leave that career — and how did music pull you into a new chapter? When you entered the music industry, what did you immediately see that didn't sit right with you?2 — Why Artists Still Need a LabelThere's a strong narrative right now that independent artists don't need record labels anymore. From your perspective, why is it still necessary for independent artists to have a label structure around them? What's the difference between an artist trying to build alone versus having the right kind of team behind them? • Spotlight on Lexsey (emerging pop star)3 — Flipping the Contract ModelYou've created what you describe as a complete 180 from how record contracts have operated for the last 70 years. Walk us through how your contract works — and why artist ownership of masters and publishing is so critical. How are traditional big-label contracts typically structured — and where do artists lose leverage? • Spotlight on the classical-to-fantasy-grunge artist4 — Publishing, Production & RevenueYou've said that music publishing is the key to making money in music. For listeners who aren't deep in the industry, what exactly is publishing — and why does it matter so much? In today's world of home studios and DIY production, why does an artist still need a producer and professional studio environment?5 — Building a Sustainable EcosystemOne of the most interesting parts of your model is that your label generates its own revenue instead of relying solely on artists' music. How does that work — and how does that change the power dynamic between label and artist? If an artist has already released music under a different structure, can they pivot into a more ownership-driven future? What's possible? We tie together all these themes:• Creative reinvention• Ownership vs exploitation• Entrepreneurship in music• Designing a better ecosystem• Artists as business partners
In Episode 80 — the final regular episode of A Journey Through SAW — we heard about "Free To Love Again" by Suzette Charles, which was one of the final singles released during Mike Stock and Pete Waterman's working relationship. Now, 33 years after that track came out in the UK, Suzette's debut album is finally about to be released. Comprising faithfully re-recorded versions of the original six tracks that Suzette previously worked on with Mike at PWL and five brand-new songs, Suzette Charles is the long-awaited resolution to a thread that has been dangling for SAW fans since 1993. In this special episode, Suzette and Mike discuss how they reunited to collaborate musically again and how the album came together, including what it was like to recreate the original songs and the inspiration for the new tunes.Support the showSubscribe for bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/sawInstagram: @chartbeatsauThreads: @chartbeatsau, @matthew_denby360Bluesky: @chartbeatsau, @matthewdenby.bsky.socialFacebook: Chart Beats: A Journey Through PopEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com

Show up to the studio 100 times and make 10 dope songs. The pressure to create content distracts from the basic truth: making good music is the goal. In order to make good music, you must find yourself in the studio. If you're not showing up to the studio, you're not going to make anything, let alone anything good. Late London says: “Show up to the studio 100 times and make 10 dope songs.”This perspective also speaks to respect for the challenge inherent in making good music. It represents a conscious setting of expectations to prioritize showing up, removing pressure, and enjoyment in the experience of making music. Output is an artifact of process.Late's respect for the challenge of making music is also seen in the way that he participates and interacts with his community. Not having seen each other since college, he immediately asked me to send him a track and did not hesitate to say “this vocal should be loud and proud.”He limits himself to three working sessions on tracks to avoid over-thinking and exchanges works in process with other producers. They help each other across the finish line to get the best — not the perfect — version of a song and then they move on. This is because he also values forward motion. More can be learned and experienced through continuing than from staying in place. All of this is filtered through his expansive and dynamic lens of what it is to be a professional. Late London regularly shape-shifts between DJ, Music Producer, Event Producer, Engineer, and Educator — he is mentally flexible in how he arrives. There are many ways to make it as an artist, he reminds us that how we define it is our choice.ProducerHead is free to subscribe. Digital recording had finally become fully affordable, and took over every aspect of the industry, leaving analog systems to retro purists & people who could afford them. New tools allowed for greater precision & tightness than ever before, and that became the standard for every genre. I talk about those tech changes and how they shaped the music. And I run down my list of the most significant producers of the decade. What music from the 2000s did you listen to? Did you notice how different the base standard for music recording had become? Were you into recording yourself, and if so, did you get into it because it was so cheap & easy to access? How do you think 2000s music measures up? Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/915 Presented by: Golden Fly Shop, TroutRoutes, Jackson Hole Fly Company. A music producer doesn't usually end up building a fly fishing podcast—but that's exactly how Pablo Signori got started. What began as a side project during the pandemic turned into The Newb and the Knower, a show built around learning fly fishing from the ground up. Instead of positioning himself as an expert, Pablo leaned into being a beginner and documented the process in real time. That approach not only shaped the podcast but also opened the door to travel, deeper learning, and a completely new path in fly fishing.

Sir George Martin was the Beatles' extraordinary producer and the most acclaimed and celebrated music producer of the rock era. No one comes close to Sir George for the innovation and sheer perfection of his body of work. It's almost an accident that he worked with the Beatles. Before meeting them he was in charge of EMI's Parlophone label where he produced comedy and novelty acts like Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan. His introduction to the Beatles only came about after they were rejected by 17 other record labels. When he brought them in for an audition he was not very impressed, but he was intrigued by their energy and charisma. Sir George has said that in the beginning he was the master and they were the students, but in time this role reversed and they became the masters and he the student. This transformation was due to the genius of Lennon and McCartney and their constant pushing him to create more and different sounds and effects. It's beyond discussion that the Beatles would not have been the Beatles without George Martin. From convincing Paul to use a string quartet on “Yesterday”, to his slowed down then sped up piano solo on “In My Life”, to his creation of a circus swirl on “Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite”, to his seamless combination of two takes at different speeds and different keys on “Strawberry Fields” - he truly was the 5th Beatle. He went on to produce a host of other artists and hits including Jeff Beck, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, America and Gerry and the Pacemakers. In his career, he produced 30 number-one hit singles in the UK and 23 number-one hits in the United States, winning six Grammys. Think about how lucky we were that fate brought together the Beatles and Sir George Martin. Together they changed the world. —----------------------------------------------------------- The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries! "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes! (aka a "GLT with me CG!")
Send a textA courageous journey, a chance meeting and a single ring on the bell at the gilded gates of his future, changed everything for Kevin Tewis and launched him into being! And nothing has stopped him ever since! At 15, a disastrous careers interview informed Kevin that he simply wasn't good enough and a life of stacking biscuits as opposed to a glorious creative career lay ahead. To quote Churchill Insurance's iconic dog Winston that Kevin subsequently went on to create: "Oh No-No-No-No-No!" A day later Kevin found himself at the gates of 5 Star, his very favourite band. And having taken his destiny into his own hands, there at the gates, his future began. That mix of nerve and pitch-perfect timing became a blueprint that Kevin still follows: Create work with staying power, not sugar highs. In this extraordinary episode we explore how a shy Superfan became a Photographer, a Music Producer, a Brand Builder, a Creativity Legend and the mind behind one of Britain's most loved advertising icons, Churchill's nodding bulldog Winston: "Oh Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes-Yes!"We dig into the craft. Kevin's teenage habit of hand-charting Top 40 hits helped him decode what makes a song endure across formats and decades. That data-meets-feel approach fuelled records designed to live on Heart and Smooth long after the charts. It also birthed a branding masterstroke: “Winston,” a bulldog that turned insurance into affection by blending British heritage with warmth and simple, memorable language. You'll hear how he later applied the same logic in government, naming ANTENNA for Number 10's secure comms by building inward and outward meaning straight into the word.Mentors loom large in Kevin's story. From Five Star's kindness to Eddie Gordon's industry schooling, he shows how generosity scales careers—and why he now mentors young creators, sits on a school trust, and argues for business literacy in classrooms. We talk ad quality, radio's surprising strength, Simon Cowell's new boy band era, and why AI is best treated like Grammarly: a sharp helper, not a stand-in for empathy, timing, and taste. Creativity remains stubbornly human because what moves us keeps shifting. The most luminous turn arrives with fatherhood. Kevin shares the joy and honesty of building a family through surrogacy and egg donation, keeping both women an active part of his children's lives. It's a lesson in dignity, clarity, and the kind of legacy that truly lasts. Anchored by a favourite line from Kipling's If—keep your head when others lose theirs—this conversation is a guide for anyone who wants to make things people will still love in ten, twenty, thirty years.Enjoy the story, share it with a friend who needs a nudge of courage, and if it resonates, subscribe and leave a review so more listeners can find these conversations. The TWENTY30's co-hosts Hanaa Almoaibed and Lucien Zeigler sit down with Saud Alturki, Saudi music producer, curator, and founder of Brij Entertainment ahead of the release of his third album, High Octane. A project two and a half years in the making, the track list reads like a love letter to hip hop royalty. Busta Rhymes. Swizz Beatz. West Side Boogie. Rhapsody, whom Saud calls his favorite female MC alive today. Working with his creative director Chindi, who turned every production conversation into something closer to a therapy session, Saud landed on a concept that's deeply rooted in where he's from, the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Saud takes us back to the beginning: a freshman at McGill in Montreal, freezing through his first Canadian winter and discovering that music wasn't just something he loved — it was something he could do. A move to LA, a chance encounter at a Verizon store with a gospel-tinged R&B singer named Bernard, and seven years of patience later, he finally put out his first single. That story alone sets the tone for everything that follows: Saud is someone who builds slowly, deliberately, and for keeps. But the conversation doesn't stop at the album. Saud talks about what it really takes to build a music industry in Saudi Arabia — not just a music scene. Venues, labels, studios, government support, festivals like Middle Beast that have built an entire ecosystem around artists. He's careful to say Saudi isn't quite an industry yet, but the infrastructure is finally arriving, and the talent — including his Brij Entertainment artist Hajaj, the first Saudi to perform at Grammy weekend in LA — is already outpacing it. There's also a sharp, honest take on the streaming era, why dropping albums in 2025 is "not the best move" (and why he's doing it anyway), the emerging Saudi genre Hoppe — a fusion of Sambri and hip hop that he wishes he'd invented — and what he tells young artists in Riyadh who have every resource he never had at 17. High Octane drops after Ramadan.

This episode of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast kicks off with a look at Coco Jones preparing to perform the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” at Super Bowl LX. Jones shared that she’s been leaning on a vocal trick once used by Whitney Houston—eating Lay’s potato chips to keep her voice “oiled” before major performances—as she gears up for one of the biggest stages in sports. Reports also confirm Coco’s performance continues the NFL’s now‑annual inclusion of the Black National Anthem before kickoff, with Jones joining a lineup that includes Charlie Puth and Brandi Carlile during pre‑game ceremonies. Meanwhile, the show addresses online buzz about SZA and country‑hip‑hop artist Shaboozey, with multiple sources confirming that despite months of speculation, the two have never been romantically involved and maintain only a platonic friendship. Later, listeners get a lively segment featuring super‑producer Teddy Riley, whose new memoir Remember the Times chronicles his rise from Harlem to shaping the sound of modern R&B and hip‑hop through the creation of New Jack Swing and collaborations with icons like Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige, and Jay‑Z. As conversation turns political, the team reacts to Donald Trump’s recent repost of an AI‑generated video depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes, which sparked bipartisan condemnation before the White House deleted it, claiming a staffer posted it in error. The episode blends entertainment, culture, and headline news, giving listeners a sharp, humorous, and insightful take on everything happening right now. "Frank is better known as FLEYVA, a Hip Hop Artist, Comedian, Music Producer, and famous Content Creator. His rise to fame stemmed from making Viral Videos, which highlight the many differences between Hispanic cultures and upbringings versus White American. Born in Venezuela to Cuban parents who fled from the communist regime, Fleyva soon found himself in the beautiful city of Miami, where his upbringing was a rough one which involved the loss of his dad's teachings, becoming the man of the house at a very young age, struggling financially up into his adolescent years, selling drugs and mingling with the wrong type of crowds. This fueled his music and started building his new network of people and through this new network, he stumbled upon comedy relief and producing Viral Videos. Now, in South Florida and in many Hispanic homes spread throughout the nation and even in South & Central America, Fleyva has become a house hold name that has caused much laughter and brought Hispanic communities a little closer. He is currently releasing his New Album one song at a time as he journeys deeper into his biggest passion of making music. He does this while also preparing for his next comedy show coming up in April or May. This brother is a father of two gorgeous young kids, who is balancing being a Musician, a Comedian, a Content Creator, and all around Business Man. During this awesome podcast, he showed all sides of the aforementioned and I guarantee that you guys will love this episode. Enjoy this Podcast!" Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
