Henry (B3 Beyond)Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know even more about return guest Henry. Previously known as "B3 Beyond", Henry previously appeared on the show back in December of 2024. Back then he was an anonymous graffiti / street artist. These days he has given up that life of crime, to become a more gallery focused artist. In this episode, we chat about his growing up in The U.K. and what made him switch his outlook and style from the street to the gallery. We cover some of the changes that made him lean in this new direction, and we also discuss some of that previous street art and where those pieces remain today. Now Henry's messaging seems to be focused on bringing attention to kidney disease; a condition that he is all too familiar with. Henry shares what his Kidney condition is, how long he has had it, and what it means for his everyday life. He also shares some startling information about who has it, how many suffer from it, and the staggering amount of folks who may not be aware that they have it. Then we discuss some of the finer points of his new art. He talks about some of the techniques he is working on and studying at university. Again, Henry resides in The U.K. just outside of London, but since we last spoke, he has made a trip across the pond, to The United States. I pepper him with questions about his trip, and where he went, and what he was doing here. Then he explains to me that while it was a refreshing change of scenery, it did inform some of the projects that he is working on. Some of Henry's current works have a decidedly political bent. As listeners of the show will know, we don't talk politics on Fascination Street; but we do deftly discuss his works and the reasons behind them. His art is beautiful, and you can see some of it on his Instagram page and his website. Both of which he shares in this episode. Street artists are calling for clearer rules around their craft, after one prominent artist was charged. Wellington Central MP Tamatha Paul has voiced support for prolific graffiti artist Karl Truell - aka 'Pork' - after he was fined in Auckland. Auckland street artist Jesse Jensen says there's no spaces for people to paint legally - and changes need to be made. The centre of New Plymouth has been taken over by street artists, musicians, and a whole lot of spray paint this week. The Get Up Festival is back in town for the first time in more than a decade and 26 graffiti artists are transforming the CBD into a living gallery. Street artist Arina Apostolova painted her first wall at the age of 13, then studied architecture, but decided to dedicate her life to painting and street art. Arina has worked in Ukraine, China and Australia, including painting a skate park near Canberra with an area of about 500 square meters. This week's episode features New York artist ELLE. She's been featured in a variety of different high-profile brand collaboration projects and has traveled around the world painting murals. I always give the advice of doing a free mural or two to get practice/photos to advertise later, but ELLE got her start painting, not just for free, but illegally on the streets of New York. She put her art in front of passerby eyes to see and get noticed in order to get jobs. She wasn't just spray painting her name up on the wall. ELLE practiced to create eye catching art that served as a building block to the career she now has. I'm so impressed by her and I know you will be too. If you've spent any time in Los Angeles, you're probably familiar with WRDSMTH. The street artist's iconic stencil of a typewriter cranking out pages of inspirational text is almost as ubiquitous as the city's traffic.In today's podcast episode, host and NOT REAL ART founder Scott “Sourdough” Power sits down with WRDSMITH (aka Phil Brody) to discuss the artist's unconventional path from Midwestern bookworm to renowned writer and street artist. “I was being creative from when I was a comic book kid,” says WRDSMTH, who initially relocated to L.A. to chase his screenwriting dreams. “When you look at who I am now and what I'm doing now, it just all made sense, all these little stops and starts and different lives that I had.”Realizing he needed a hobby when he arrived in L.A., WRDSMTH took to the streets and began stenciling, painting, and wheat-pasting his heart out.
