In today's new episode of the AUDACIOUS BABE PODCAST I've had the absolute honour of interviewing the amazing Jo Robertson from Lillian Craze Birth Photography. And guess what?! We are talking all about Birth Photography.  I've met Jo online and stumbled upon her breathtaking and powerful birth photography work and immediately messaged her and asked her to be on the show. Which luckily for me and all of you listening, she kindly agreed. It was such a pleasure chatting with her about her photography journey and how she got into the birth photography genre.  We touched upon the passion that you need to sustain this business as with any not yet mass market photography genre, the success lies in the long game and in building powerful and genuine connections and relationships with your clients.  Jo also kindly lets us peek into her processes and how she goes from first enquiry all the way to capturing the actual birth. Truly fascinating to hear this kind of detail and behind the scenes.  Every business has its ups and downs, but Jo's wonderful motto is inspired by Disney's Dory (original character from the Finding Nemo movie): "Just keep swimming!" 043. How To Deal With Overwhelm

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 10, 2019 35:57

In today's episode of the AUDACIOUS BABE PODCAST I'm chatting all about overwhelm and sharing 10 tips on how to deal with overwhelm.  What is overwhelm really?  Stress and overwhelm are very much deeply interlinked, some would even say they are one and the same. But I don't think they are. I strong agree to disagree on that one.  My definition of overwhelm is rooted in long-term stress and overwhelm is an effect of that. Stress can sometimes be a positive thing - we have adrenaline pumping through our veins and everything is go go go, maybe a bit hectic but it is still ok to handle. However, as soon as that phase becomes longer and the endurance of that stress becomes unbearable, that is when stress becomes negative and turns into overwhelm.  You are very much frozen in that state. You have all these things on your to-do list, all these goals and things you need to get done, but then... you can't do it. Your anxiety levels are too high and it feels like quicksand. It cripples you - metaphorically speaking.  That is overwhelm.  But, you are not alone my lovely. We all have been there one time or another. I certainly have.  in this episode, I'm sharing my own experiences with long term stress and overwhelm and how I've managed this year to really become aware of it all. As it turns out, I can't handle stress as well as I used to and so overwhelm is a big topic for me. I'm no longer good with coping with it. Maybe that is an age thing, but I think it is more to do with the duration of how long this stress has been endured. Or a combination of the two, who knows.  Listen to the full episode to hear my history of stress and how I deal with overwhelm nowadays as well as hear all about the 10 tips on how to deal with overwhelm. Hopefully these might help you the next time you feel stressed out and have these overwhelming feelings.  Do you have any other tips that weren't mentioned on the episode on how you are dealing with overwhelm and stress? Today's super short & sweet episode of the AUDACIOUS BABE PODCAST I'm chatting about the Beginner's Mindset and how I find this to be the secret sauce for your life and business.  The Beginner's Mindset is a mindset which keeps us open to new possibilities, new adventures and looking at the world in a wondrous kind of way instead of being in a rut of the same old comfort zone we love to linger in.    "In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few." - Shunryu Suzuki   Once you have come to learn everything there is from a certain topic or skill, you are no longer looking at it with a fresh mind. When we first started in photography we most likely had this feeling of "Oh wow - how did create that shot?" and we went on the adventurous ride of finding this out ourselves by experimenting and just absorbing all the information.  But over time, the more we become the expert, the less we get out of our comfort zones and try new things. So on the podcast I want to remind you of this feeling and of finding new hobbies or trying new things out in your photography. This will put you back into the Beginner's Mindset that will help you to keep things fresh and rejuvenate old passions in your life and your business.  Give it a try!  Listen to the full episode to hear more about the Beginner's Mindset, the reasons why this such a wonderful mindset to have and also learn about the different ways how to adopt one.    Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com Episode 41: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-41-beginners-mindset-the-secret-sauce-for-your-life-business 1-To-1 Mentoring: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/business-mentoring Join the Community: https://theaudaciousbabe.com   Follow us on Social Media: Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/theaudaciousbabe Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theaudaciousbabe

After watching some of their wonderful content online, I then decided to go to one of their monthly Club Nights in London. That's where Annik and I met and have met up multiple times ever since.  Public Speaking can be such a wonderful tool and skill to have in your arsenal as it not only help you to grow your business and increase your exposure but it also helps you on a personal development level as well because it will boost your confidence levels regardless of where you are currently at on your own journey in life.  "If you don't have the confidence [yet], you need courage. I'm such a fan of Speaker Express and their Speaker Method - which in a nutshell is a 6-step method that will have you to grow your business with speaking.  "As the business grows the more visibility you have (online or offline) [...] with public speaking you are faster to build that trust and connection with your audience." It was a lot of fun to be involved in this summit and I've met a lot of young people from all over the world creating startups across all industries, mainly tech related. Truly inspiring and impressive. So wonderful to see all these ambitious and talented young adults trying to create businesses on a global level.  First I explain the structure of the entire summit and how the different startup tracks work but then dive into my learnings that got me thinking as I've found a lot of parallels to the creative worlds, especially to the photography business world.  What I've found is that ALL startups and ALL photography business owners have in common… we LOVE what we do. We love our products and services, may it be our creative talent or the app or platform these startups have coded. We just love what we do. We hone it, we craft it, we spend all our time on developing it… BUT what we forget more often than not is the business side of things.  Listen to the full episode to hear more about my experience in Armenia at the Seaside Startup Summit and more details about my learnings from mentoring startups.      Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com Episode 39: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-live-from-armenia-my-learnings-from-mentoring-startups 1-To-1 Mentoring: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/business-mentoring Join the Community: https://theaudaciousbabe.com   Follow us on Social Media: Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/theaudaciousbabe Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theaudaciousbabe

More specifically, how to price your photography packages effectively and fearlessly.  We go over why we have so much fear and emotions attached to our pricing and why this actually stops us from ever reaching our full potentials. When we take away the fears and the emotions from the equation, we literally should be doing the math and figure our 'per session price'. "Once you do the math [...] there is no argument there. That's what I need to charge. Otherwise, what's the point? Otherwise, I'm actually paying my clients to have a session with me!" So true! When you do the math, there is no room left for doubts and negative self-talk. You have the facts black on white. To run sustainable and profitable businesses you need to become more business savvy and eliminate those limiting beliefs and emotions. Just look at the facts. It does help to distinguish your prices and figure out your pricing strategy.  We also talk about the different pricing models - all-inclusive fee or having a session fee with selling prints and albums afterwards. Antonina shares her thoughts and the wealth of experiences she has with both models.  She also shares her wonderful journey into photography and how her health forced her to make some serious evaluation for her life and her business. Starting from scratch and pushing the reset button. Super scary but for Antonina it has been a blessing in disguise.  Have a listen of this wonderful, super giggle-ly but powerful interview with Antonina. 037. How To Use Storytelling In Your Business

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 11, 2019 25:55

In today's short episode on the AUDACIOUS BABE PODCAST I talk about storytelling and how we can use that in our business. "Storytelling describes the social and cultural activity of sharing stories.[...] Communicating by using storytelling techniques can be a more compelling and effective route of delivering information than that of using only dry facts." - Wikipedia For us photographers there are two different types of storytelling: The storytelling in or with our images. The storytelling inside our business to be used to connect with our audience i.e. in our marketing & communication  I start the subject with the first type - the storytelling with or inside our photographs. I have found this wonderful article by Sebastian Jacobitz - a streetphotographer from Berlin, who quite expertly describes the complexity of storytelling in our imagery.  He highlights the emotions that storytelling in photography can trigger but also the imagination in people's minds. There isn't one universal truth. A picture can mean be interpreted in many ways. But it is through composition that we can guide the viewer or stir them towards something. It is also through composition that we can give the story in our images a clearer start, middle and end points like you would have in traditional storytelling i.e. inside books or movies.  Then I explore the second type of storytelling and that is how we can use storytelling in our business. Why it is so important to use and for what.  As the wonderful Nicolina Huizinga I've had the pleasure of meeting at a Women In Business event says: "Sharing a story to make a connection with your audience is powerful, but connecting your story to the inner narrative of your audience will make an impact!" But before you even consider what stories to tell, you need to be clear on why you want to tell the story in the first place - use Sarah Archer's SPEAK framework. Listen to the full episode to hear about how you can create a powerful impact and connection with your audience, how to connect your stories to the inner narrative of your audience and how to use the SPEAK framework to align your story with your message.      Resources mentioned: Wikipedia Definition of Storytelling Street Bounty - Article about Storytelling in Photography Nicolina Huisinga's Video about Storytelling Sarah Archer's Speaking Club Podcast   Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com Episode 37: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-37-how-to-use-storytelling-in-your-business 1-To-1 Mentoring: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/business-mentoring Join the Community: https://theaudaciousbabe.com   Follow us on Social Media: Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/theaudaciousbabe Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theaudaciousbabe

But mental health illnesses don't appear overnight. They are slowly sneaking up on you and if you are not aware of your changes in your thoughts or your behaviour then you will only realises your issues when it is too late and you are in the middle of it already.  What I would like to urge you to do is to educate yourself about the topic. That you get to know yourself better and truly make your thoughts conscious and therefore recognise early on when things take a more negative effect and your thoughts are going down the rabbit hole. That way you can start to prevent them.  Listen to the full episode to hear more about the 5-min exercise that can shift your mindset and breaks the vicious cycle of negative self-talk. Today's episode is all about BUSINESS PLANNING. Eek! I love a good planning session for your business. :) Business Planning is a topic many find rather daunting and therefore just ignore it completely or are totally confused where to start in the first place with it. Do I even need a business plan? What kind of template can I use?  I can already tell you, as photographers, most likely you do NOT need to write a proper fully comprehensive 50-page traditional business plan … phew!!! BUT (and this is a big but!) I do strongly believe that you do need some sort of strategic outlook, strategic planning, an outline, whatever you want to call it, that resembles the concept behind a business plan. What you need is CLARITY.  Clarity about your business, its surrounding, you internal and external structures and anything in-between. And for that a business plan or business planning can be tremendously helpful. I will dive deeper into what business planning actually is and why we would need it, I will bust some business planning myths that are out there before I then get into the nitty gritty of showcasing 3 different business planning methods that will help you to get into a business planning mindset and to develop that strategic thinking for your business.  On this episode, I will cover 3 different business planning tools in total. The traditional fully comprehensive Business Plan The Business Model Canvas The One-Page Business Plan You can make all of these as complex or as simple as you'd like. Whichever method you might choose, the most important message that I want you to take away from this episode is though, that you HAVE to do some sort of business planning. Whichever way. Just do something. You need to put some strategic thinking behind running a business and making a plan which ever way is key for that clarity. This is a very personal episode to me. I've had the absolute honour of interviewing this one hell of an audacious babe. The Darkroom Birmingham was originally created by Amy-Rose out of a personal project as she herself has been going through a journey of self-discovery with her own body. This project eventually became more about others as she wanted to create a way for other women to feel beautiful in their bodies (regardless of where they think they are) and go on their own journey with her to empower them and create a beautiful safe space for self-expression and body confidence. The reason why this episode is so personal to me, is that I dared myself to go on that journey along with Amy-Rose and actually stepped in front of her camera… naked! Eeek! I have to be honest it wasn't easy. I have always struggled all my life with my body image. BUT I challenged myself and I just knew if I don't do it, I'll regret it more than doing it. New Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com ----- Happy New Year, my lovely audacious babes! In today's THE AUDACIOUS BABE PODCAST episode I'm chatting about how stress can screw with your life.  My start to 2019 was very different than I initially had planned for or intended. I woke up one day early January with half of my face being paralysed. Quite scary, right? Long story short, I've been diagnosed with Bell's Palsy, which is a partial facial paralysis. No one really knows what brings this paralysis on and they also do not really know how to treat it properly, it is one of those things that you just need to let heal itself. However, as my 2018 was such a stressful and manic year, or at least I had perceived it as such, I feel like this is a wake-up call to re-evaluate my lifestyle and in particular my stress levels. Long term stress can have all sorts of negative impacts on your body. Even though it is not proven to be one of the factors causing Bell's Palsy, I think it could as well be. Who knows. But for me this triggered some internal evaluation and inspiration to change my ways. To change my attitude and shift my mindset when it comes to my stress levels. So in this episode, I'm talking about what stress actually is, what influences our stress levels and most importantly, how can we change the impact permanently. To me it requires a total mindset shift on how I deal with certain situations that are perceived to be stressful. Yes there are many external triggers to our stresses, but I believe that how we handle them internally actually affects your stress levels the most. Listen to the full episode to learn what my plans are for changing my ways and implementing a stress-free attitude. Hopefully this might inspire you and gives you some food for thought as well in how you want to deal with your stress levels in 2019. If you want to plan for your 2019, I've recorded multiple episodes on this topic. So simply head over to either Episode number 2 for Goal Settings or use Episode number 9 for reviewing your past year and making 2019 your most epic one yet.   Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com Episode 30: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-30-how-stress-can-screw-with-your-life   Follow us on Social Media: Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/theaudaciousbabe Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theaudaciousbabe

    029. How To Deal With Negative Feedback

PLEASE NOTE: The Rise & Shine Society Website has now been changed to THE AUDACIOUS BABE (like the podcast). New Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com ----- In today's THE AUDACIOUS BABE PODCAST episode I'm chatting about how to deal with negative feedback.  At any point in our lives we can be subject to negative feedback, whether we are a 9-5 employee or whether we are a business owner. But when we are a business owner and especially when we are creatives who are putting their heart and soul into their work and putting it out there for anyone to judge, we feel extra vulnerable as we identify with our work a lot on a very personal and emotional level. Receiving negative feedback in those situations can be even more hurtful just because we are reacting emotional towards it. And that is very natural. Don't get me wrong. It is normal human behaviour. But overall this is all just part of the process. Part of being a creative business owner and part of selling a service. Once we realise this, the easier it will get to deal with negative feedback from a client. We kind of have to learn to grow a thick skin and try to take a step back from our work. But remember that they're criticising your work, not you as a person. Never take negative feedback about your work as a criticism of you as a person! Yes, we personally identify with our work as we are so emotionally connected to it, as it feels like a part of us, but we must learn to detach ourselves ever so slightly. It is a learning curve and won't happen overnight, but it must happen, and it will. You can still be and will always be emotionally connected to your work, that is the whole drive within us to run our business in the first place, but it will get easier over time to take a step back emotionally and disconnect ever so slightly from it.  Listen to the full episode to hear my 6 steps on how to deal with negative feedback, plus I also share the story of my first ever negative feedback and how I've handled it.      Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com Episode 29: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-29-how-to-deal-with-negative-feedback   Follow us on Social Media: Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/theaudaciousbabe Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theaudaciousbabe

    027. GDPR - Let's shed some light on it

PLEASE NOTE: The Rise & Shine Society Website has now been changed to THE AUDACIOUS BABE (like the podcast). New Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com ----- In today's THE AUDACIOUS BABE PODCAST episode I'm chatting all about GDPR - the general data protection regulation. As you all know by now as of May 25th, 2018 the new data protection laws - GDPR came into effect Europe-wide. There has been a big panic all over the world and a big confusion to what this means to us small business owners. A lot of false information has been circled around and everyone has been scrambling. Unless you are a lawyer who understands the jargon, most people where just left being confused really. Enter people like Suzanne Dibble. Suzanne is a lawyer who specialises in small businesses and she set herself the task to demystify GDPR for us. She established a Facebook Group for small business owners, which has since exploded to over 33k members and Suzanne made it her mission to post one video a day until the deadline May 25th. She also interviews people to discuss certain GDPR related topics that she herself is not an expert on ie. IT security. Over the last few months, I've embarked on this massive task of understanding GDPR and really deriving with an action plan of what I need to do to make myself compliant. When I first started with this task, I understood I needed a Privacy Notice on my website and apparently some check boxes, but that sure can't be all, can it? No it can't. There is lots more to GDPR than this. However, ones you get more into the nitty gritty of GDPR, it is actually not that complicated, just a bit of work to do on our end to make sure we are in compliance. So,I started by watching all the videos Suzanne provided in her Facebook group and researched lots of more info on the ICO website itself. However, once I've acquired all this knowledge, I kind of felt like I need to put it somewhere. So I've decided to do a podcast episode about it and share my findings with all of you. :) Even if this topic is the most dry topic it can be for photographers, this is essential and affects all our couples, our clients and our business. So I can only highly encourage you to take it seriously, not just because you can be fined and your reputation can be destroyed, but also just to increase your awareness and put your customers at east and their minds at rest knowing you are on it. Listen to the full episode to hear more details about GDPR, its 7 key principles and my 7 step recommendations to bring you closer to compliance.   DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a lawyer and all the information I am sharing in this podcast episode, is just my understanding and interpretation of the findings on the ICO website as well as watching all video material via Suzanne Dibble's Facebook group and so on. My recommendations in the podcasts are again just personal recommendations and by no means are necessarily legal obligations or even if they are, it is up to the listener's discretion to decide whether to integrate/follow any information/advice given.    Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com Episode 27: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-27-gdpr-lets-shed-some-light-on-it   Follow us on Social Media: Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/theaudaciousbabe Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theaudaciousbabe

New Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com ----- In today's THE AUDACIOUS BABE PODCAST is all about finding out WHAT IS YOUR WHY. I've recently read a few books and done a bit of research on this topic and am sharing these findings with you over on the podcast today. Knowing your WHY is so very important and it builds your foundation for your business as without knowing it you won't know what your purpose actually is. What is the driver, that inner passion, that je ne sais quoi that puts the fire into your belly? You need to know and understand what that is. It will help you with your marketing messaging, with your inner motivation, with everything to keep you going and live a life of true fulfilment. We don't get burned out because of what we do. We get burned out because we forget why we do it. ~ Jon Gordon, Author of "The Seed" Another amazing book I've read is by Simon Sinek "Start With WHY ". Simon is an amazing motivational speaker now and he also established the Golden Circle Concept - a small circle encased in two larger circles - like a dart disc or goal disc in archery. He uses this concept to explain how most companies communicate from the outside in and do not even know their WHY. Whereas only a very few but very successful businesses communicate from the inside out - starting with their WHY. i.e. Apple. Another great concept of his is the theory that people do not buy your services or products just because you offer them, but that most people buy when they can support a cause or share the same believes as the person/company offering the product/services. People don't buy what you do, they buy WHY you do it! ~ Simon Sinek Once they believe in what you believe, they have trust, which leads to loyalty. So powerful, my lovelies!  So, I want to encourage you all, my audacious babes, to really dig deep and find your story - find the driver that makes everything worthwhile, that something that puts the fire into your belly! I hope you've enjoyed last week's episode and have gotten something out of it. Have you tried to apply the different attention types into your worklife that Graham Allcott introduces in his book "How to be A Productivity Ninja?" I have and can honestly say, it has made a huge difference.  Today I will go more into details about techniques, tricks and tools that can be applied to be more productive. But don't forget as Allcott describes, don't get sucked into that productivity porn; that shiny new software or app that we then spend sooo much time on setting it all up, only to then not use it at all. So all of the tools I will mention today, just review them, consider them and truly think about whether this could be useful to you. Especially if they need huge amounts of setup time. Think about the trade-off though. Some can be tremendously helpful even if you have to invest a lot of time upfront. Just be mindful of that and go from there. I've also created a little downloadable PDF as an overview  including links to softwares and apps. You can download it here. 013. Productivity Tips - Part 1 - Time Management Is Dead

PLEASE NOTE: The Rise & Shine Society Website has now been changed to THE AUDACIOUS BABE (like the podcast). New Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com ----- Recently I've read this great book “How to be A Productivity Ninja” by Graham Allcott and it has kind of inspired me - so much so that I wanted to share this with you. The book goes into a lot of details about productivity and obviously how to become a productivity ninja, but it also talks a lot about the psychological aspects within ourselves and also about how our environment has shifted tremendously over the recent years to influence our productivity levels. The main take aways for me from the book are the mindset shifts that he describes. Not even just the becoming of the productivity ninja but the little things that stuck with me the most and have helped me already in y every day work life. Allcott describes how time management is dead and that the old principles and techniques of time management do not work anymore. It used to be very simple. You got to the office, maybe had a few letters and faxes to sort through but then that is it. You then basically had the entire work day in front of you to get on with the real work. So then it was easy to just look at your to do list and create priorities with the ABC technique. But this is no longer applicable as our workdays have shifted to dealing with 24-7 emails, social media, voicemail, calls, instant messaging, texts, conference calls, collaboration tools and the burden of staying connected. So, the old techniques no longer function that way. We are faced with constant information overflow. Even if we are working by ourselves at home in front of the computer, we still are fighting with all of these distractions, external AND internal. So, Allcott therefore then describes that productivity tools need to shift from time management to attention management. I totally agree with this as it also forces us to look internal and at something that we might be able to control better with developing habits etc. Time in itself is a constant for everyone - it is the same for everyone. We do not control time. BUT we can control our perception and our attention within the time given. He then describes that there are three different types of attentions, proactive, active and inactive and we go through all of these on any given workday. It is up to you to figure out at what times of the day you are in what state of attention and therefore by identifying this you can do your best work in those time slots and be the most productive. Listen to the full episode where I describe what Allcott means with this shift to attention management and how we can apply this to our every day work life to increase productivity levels. I will also quick touch on the characteristics of a productivity ninja.    Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com Episode 13: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-13-productivity-tips-part-1   Follow us on Social Media: Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/theaudaciousbabe Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theaudaciousbabe

    011. Why Are We Neglecting Our Health So Much?

PLEASE NOTE: The Rise & Shine Society Website has now been changed to THE AUDACIOUS BABE (like the podcast). New Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com ----- I'm going a little bit off topic with today's THE AUDACIOUS BABE PODCAST episode and talk to you about a topic that is very important to me but doesn't necessarily have anything to do with photography per se. Nonetheless it is important and affects all of us. And that is our health. Yes. I've been thinking about my own health a lot lately and just thought I'd share with you a little bit about my struggles and the new journey I am on. But it also got me a thinking a lot about our behaviours as human beings towards our health. So please bear with me as this is an episode a bit out of the norm.   As we are currently in January, with the flood of New Year's resolutions going on, I thought this topic would fit right in. I bet a lot of you have New Year's resolutions or have had them in the past that included something along the lines of getting healthy, fitter, eat better, drink more water, run 5k, stop smoking or whatever really. Come January, we think this is going to be THE year we achieve that goal weight, fit into that dress or whatever we have set for ourselves come December 31st. I've been there, done that every year. And every year, I've let myself down by not committing to the resolutions. So a few years back I have stopped to give myself any New Year's resolutions all together. I think they are tricky as most of our resolutions probably won't be finished and actually we might end up feeling worse about ourselves as once again we have let ourselves down. And that inner critic of ours can really go to town on that one! Anyhow, coming back to the today's topic. Our health. Our bodies and our health are this most precious thing. They have to drag our asses around all day, have to perform the way we want them to and keep us alert and going 24/7.  But yet, a lot of the time it is something we neglect the most. So this got me thinking: Why is that? Why do we take care of our kids, which is quite obvious, our business, or anything else better than we most likely are treating our bodies? Why do we not take better care of ourselves? And I'm not necessarily only talking physically, also mentally. Our mental health is as important as our physical one and yet once again we treat it with little to no respect. This might not be true to all of you, but I'm just laying it out there. It was definitely true for me. Why I'm telling you all this? Well it is something that I felt was needed to be voiced. My point with this episode is just to maybe make us think more about our own bodies and minds. Just maybe by sharing my own struggles with you all, just maybe someone who is listening and is struggling with the same thing, gets a spark herself to change something in her life. Maybe not! Haha But at least I've got to share something honest and important to me with you all.  Listen to the full episode to hear more about the story of my struggles, what epiphany I've had back in November 2017, what made me change my own ways and what made me start this journey to a healthy me.  If you have any questions to the program or anything else I'm chatting about on the podcast, join me over in our little community and just give me a shout. :) To join our community of fellow audacious female photographers, just head over to the website and opt-in.    Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com Episode 11: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-11-why-are-we-neglecting-our-health-so-much   Follow us on Social Media: Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/theaudaciousbabe Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theaudaciousbabe

PLEASE NOTE: The Rise & Shine Society Website has now been changed to THE AUDACIOUS BABE (like the podcast). New Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com ----- In today's THE AUDACIOUS BABE Podcast episode, I had the absolute pleasure and honour to be interviewing Lex Fleming from Fleming Photo  and chat with her about the community over competition mindset. Lex and I met at the beginning of 2017 when I joined her London Wedding Breakfast Club and attended one of their breakfast meetings. Since then I've gotten to know Lex a bit more and when I started this podcast I just knew I wanted to interview her especially about the community over competition mindset. As photographers and also in other industries, we get taught when growing up, may this be in school or at university, that we need to look at our competition and analyse them. While I find that is a very important step in your branding and building your business strategy, the word "competition" teach us to see each others as rivals. In our industry, when I first started back in 2013 I found that was still really the case. As a newbie I got looked at as the new rival in town by other photographers. I simply did not understand that. Am I a threat to these people?! I guess I was. I got bad vibes thrown my way when exhibiting at fairs with other photographers, and the whole ‘let's check out the competition” looks and so on. While this wasn't the case with all photographers that I met, but it certainly was with quite a few in the beginning. And when you first starting out this makes you quite self-conscious and makes you feel small. I hated that feeling.   So over the years I've always made it a point of going up to other photographers at fairs or at any kind of meeting and introducing myself. And I think this is also one of the many reasons I felt the need to start this podcast essentially, to talk about these things. The mere word competition is not one that I particularly like. We are all in this together. And quite frankly, yes we are potentially trying to get the same business, but I honestly believe there are enough fish in the pond for all of us. So I don't feel threatened and I want to encourage you all to never feel threaten by your so-called competitors. Some of my best friends in business are fellow photographers! So go out there, peeps, mingle with the likes of you and if they give you bad vibes, brush them off and put a big fat smile on your face and simply go and introduce yourself. Like I said we are all in this together. So I'd rather help and encourage and empower other photographers and be friends with other photographers than be negative and feel threaten and give out bad vibes. Right? Anyways, long story short, when I've met Lex and got introduced to the whole London Wedding Breakfast Club scene, I instantly felt that same community vibe. She will talk about the LWBC in more detail in the interview. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I had recording it. We are officially back today in this brand New Year 2018!  I hope you've had a wonderful time with your loved ones over Christmas and got some time also to relax and just chillout. Today's episode will be filled with lots and lots of good stuff! Today we are officially reviewing your 2017 and then working on making sure that 2018 is going to be one hell of an epic year to come! Whoohoo! Are you as pumped as I am to get started? I've created a little workbook which will help guide through all of these reflections and planning. To download that just head over here: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-9-reflect-learn-celebrate-2017-create-one-hell-epic-2018 Print it out, get yourself a drink and take yourself off somewhere nice and quiet. Somewhere where you have the time to reflect, plan and dream without interruptions. Turn off any social media that might be distracting you. Have some calming music on and get to work. This process might be somewhat uncomfortable from time to time as you are facing past frustrations and challenges, but it will also be fun and show you all of your successes throughout last year and what you can take on over into this year to make sure it will be as successful as ever. Ready? Then let's do this!! Let's have some fun! The workbook is basically split into three main parts. First we will reflect, learn from it and celebrate! Whoop! This is the section where we will start reviewing your 2017, what things have worked and what might have not worked so well. I will explain this in more detail when we go through it. Part 2 is the goal setting and planning for the new year 2018. Basically whatever we have learnt from our past experiences (the good and the bad) of 2017, we will take forward into the new year. But even further than that we allow ourselves to dream and really create a vision for 2018 here. That's why it is so important to be sitting somewhere quiet and uninterrupted. Have some music playing in the background. Something that sets your mood up for focus but also for letting your mind wander and drift into the desires and aspirations. And then lastly, part 3 is more for the workbook only as i've created a little success tracker for you. At first I was thinking about doing a weekly one, but to be honest, who has time to really plan and then reflect every single week? I think I will include one page for a weekly planner, that you can use over and over again if you like, but then also include a monthly one, which to me is the more important one of the two. I think a monthly time frame is much more achievable in reflecting on your wins and frustrations and plan ahead. You will see much more progress happening from one month to the next that from one week to the next. However, if you are REALLY committed, please feel free to use both. Maybe use the monthly one to set some monthly goals and then use the weekly sheet to create those incremental steps to get you to that monthly one. But this is already taking us a bit too far head. Let's take a step back and start with part 1 and reflect on your 2017.  Listen to the rest of the episode and work along side with the FREE WORKBOOK. Ready?! New Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com ----- In today's THE AUDACIOUS BABE Podcast episode, I had the pleasure and honour to be interviewing Diana Hagues from Diana Hagues Photography and chat with her about her creativity projects and freelensing. We had such a lovely chat and she shares her passion for photography with us all. But before I'm introducing this one audaciously talented lady, I need your help. In this episode we are chatting about creativity projects  and how they can help you getting out of a creative rut or just in general help you improve on a personal level which then of course also helps your professional work. When I first started the THE AUDACIOUS BABE I was chatting to Claire Batey about this before as well (who you all know from episode 5 and 6), I've always had the urge to do creative challenges together as a community. So I thought to myself why not use our little Facebook group as the platform for this? I'm not really sure how to go about this but maybe we can set something up for the winter months and have weekly, bi-weekly or monthly challenges. What do you guys think? These could either be challenges that make you take a picture every day similar to the 365 projects (Diana will be talking about those in more depth) but with a shorter time frame as 365 days is quite a committment… Or we could also do one task and then you have a certain time frame to complete it and post your final image inside the community. So for example, one week we set ourselves the challenge to capture something blue and make it as creative as possible. And we have a week to do it… and then every Sunday we post it in the community. Some of the images can then also be featured on the THE AUDACIOUS BABE Instagram for example. This is really just talking from the top of my head here… We can make these however we want? So shall I start a little poll over inside the community and we can decide if people are up for this? I personally would love to do something like this in the new year 2018. Like I said it doesn't have to be a massive time commitment but rather something that is fun and that brings us all together. The fun lies in doing it together and sharing it with each other… what do you guys think? Yay or Neh? Who's with me?? Diana, who is living with her husband, two children and their family dog in a lovely town north of Cambridge has completed a 365 project back in 2016 and has also worked on a freelensing project as well. That is how I noticed her inside our little community and immediately thought I want to interview her about freelensing. Soo cool! Her freelensing images and also her professional work images are absolutely wonderful! I will link to all of Diana's website and online platforms below. Definitely check her out. I also loved the fact that Diana has only recently started her business (in 2017) as I think it is important to see that you don't always have to be an established business owner for years and years to still have something interesting and valuable to share. New Website: https://theaudaciousbabe.com ----- Grab your FREE copy of the WORKBOOK here:  https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-7-ideal-audience   Today I wanted to chat with you about your ideal audience. This is such an important topic. It gets overlooked a lot. Even though people know they need to define their target market, they rarely do it at all or maybe not do it correctly or at least half heartedly. I have noticed, when working with startup students at the university of essex but also when chatting with small business owners in general, especially in the photography industry, everyone is kind of aware of this step as being part of their marketing strategy, but most just brush over it. So I want to stop you right there! Identifying your ideal audience is NOT just and I repeat NOT just for your marketing strategy. This affects your entire business. Yup it is THAT important really. So that's why I thought I spend a whole episode on this… This step really builds the entire foundation for your entire business. It affects the clarify you have for your business, it affects what kind of products and services you might offer and it obviously influences how you want to reach these people. Without knowing who your products and services are for, how do you expect to reach anyone and make any sales? Especially in today's marketplace. Knowing and really being in your ideal audience's mindset will help you in every aspect of your business. All the way down to the nitty gritty of your wording used in your Facebook ads or on your price booklet. Ok if this sounds somewhat daunting to you right now, don't worry. This is a process. Nothing is written in stone but by following certain questions step by step, you reach a clarity you did not have before you sat down. I can promise you that. It does help.  And even when you already established for a few years you should always revisit this time and time again. Because sometimes we forget who our ideal audience actually is and then our messaging gets a bit mixed. Or our business has changed over the years and so has our ideal audience. It is all an ever evolving process. As long as you are a business owner, this will always change and evolve. But also look at it this way, it is great fun actually to sit down and really brainstorm about your audience. Really get into their mindset and find out where they hangout, online and offline, what kind of products they consume, who they really are. I think always coming back to this step is a great help to really get back your focus for your business. And when you are just starting out, this is the best foundational work you can treat yourself with. So that you are not left to your own devices I've once again created a little work booklet for you to help you through this. Just download it and follow along today's episode. Then we go on about time management and how she tries to juggle her busy family life with her business life. And we're having a laugh about the horrors of the never ending to do list. Background info: Claire and I have known each other for quite a few years now, she was my first British friend that I've made when I came over to the UK back in 2011. We have worked together in our former full time jobs in marketing and have become good friends over the years, before we both even turned our passions into businesses. Claire Batey is the owner and photographer at Unscripted Photography - capturing the beauty of the every day. She is primarily a documentary family photographer but has also expanded into documentary wedding photography. Her style is pure documentary and capturing the every day moments. She does both very stunningly through imagery and film. She always had a love for photography and after having her little boy Harry she became more involved in capturing him as he discovered the world. And like so many other mom-togs out there, friends started to notice those photographs of little Harry and asked if she could photograph their family. And with that Unscripted Photography by Claire Batey was born in 2015. We are rarely ever forced to leave the bubble and even if we are, we jump right back into it as soon as possible.  Because the outside - the unknown - is scary. BUT more often than not, this holds us back from ever achieving the aspirations we dream of, the things we desire the most. They seem almost unreachable to us. You've probably heard this saying before “great things will happen outside of your comfort zone”. And it is TRUE!  So, here are my tips on getting you out of your zone one little tiny step at a time. Also I've created a few little printables. Print them out and hang them on your wall. Stick them to your mirror or glue them on your fridge. Yes! I know goal setting can be a bit of a tedious task and might not be fun for some, and some of you might even think, how is this relevant for a photography business… I just take pictures for clients. No. I believe any type of business that wants to succeed in the business world needs goals. Goals are basically your dreams put into action. Goal setting gives you that focus and direction. When you think about it, goal setting can a very powerful tool. It allows you to take control of your business and even of your life if you wanted to include life goals. It also provides you with a benchmark for success - so it can actually be a great motivator to keep going, to keep doing what you're doing and to keep you focussed. Goal setting is a great process that starts with figuring out what it is that you actually want to achieve - short-term or long-term - and ends with a lot of hard work but having the steps laid out for you on how to get there. Ok but in order to create successful goals, I believe you need to have a certain mindset. You need to be open minded, allow yourself to dream and really get into the depths of what you actually want in life and in business. The goals need to be achievable, meaningful to you and very specific. Also add a time-frame to them. This will help to get into action about them. I've created a little workbook for you to help you along this process. Go to the link below to download and follow along: https://theaudaciousbabe.com/podcast-episode-2-5-golden-steps-to-setting-your-goals-the-inspired-way So let's get some clarity about what you really want in business and maybe even in life if you wanted to use this process also for your life goals ;) Here are my 5 golden steps that you can use to help you with setting some amazing goals and ensures that you will tick them off one by one in no time. Step 1: Write down your dreams and visions Step 2: Now look at your dreams and let's start to make them more actionable and turn them into incremental goals. Step 3: Formulate your goals in an affirmative way. Step 4: Celebrate yourself and reward yourself every time you have reached a goal. Step 5: Review your goals on a regular basis. Rewrite new incremental goals. This ends today's episode about goal setting. I hope you found this useful.
