Sarah Wood is the founder of Sarah Wood Communication, a boutique communication agency that serves purpose-driven organizations and individuals by helping to illuminate and share the stories of their good work.  Key Takeaways:The responsibility of event planning, development, and donor relations isn't meant to fall on just one person. Collaboration is the sustainable and healthy way to success. Storytelling is powerful and versatile. It can be used as a golden thread that weaves together various strategies for audience engagement. Stories can be repurposed and made to serve distinct purposes. By tweaking them slightly, they can be made to fit different contexts. Strategic communications move beyond achieving likes and follow. It's about creating synergy between communications and development teams, ensuring every response to fundraising appeals is made with intention and is aligned with the organization's goals. A solution to the challenges of nonprofit communications is fractional hiring in marketing and communications roles. This offers flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and a fresh perspective while allowing organizations access to expertise otherwise beyond their reach.  “In telling the stories of who you've impacted, you need honesty and a safe space for that. You want to be careful how you do it - but also expressing it in a really touching way that reaches and resonates with the audience.” “When you invest in communication, in telling these stories - you really will see the long-term result of that investment. But it can be a little harder to track than a specific campaign…” “A strategy is a living document, you do not create a communication strategy, set it on a shelf somewhere and just leave it there That's not the way it works. Communication is ever-changing, your audiences are ever-changing. ” - Sarah Wood Book a complimentary consultation with Sarah to discuss your communication needs! In this episode, we (Mark Raffler and Sarah Shoemaker) connect with the Kent ISD Ed Tech team of Ron Houtman, Keith Tramper, & Sarah Wood.   The Kent ISD Educational Technology Team joining us today is the team behind the creation of the “For The Purpose of...” podcast. In education, lots of questions are arising about artificial intelligence and how it could or should be used in the classroom.  This focus is the topic of our podcast today.  Here is a quick brief of our conversation: Sarah starts the dialogue by asking:  “There is so much buzz about artificial intelligence. Tell us about artificial intelligence.  Would you     define it for us?”  While artificial intelligence is relatively new for a lot of people, the common definition is still being clarified.  “It is thought of as computer systems that perform tasks that would typically require some sort of human interaction,” says Sarah Wood.  Keith Tramper adds that AI is not new, however, we have new uses of artificial intelligence that are intersecting with education.  AI does try to simulate human intelligence.  Ron Houtman adds that we're approaching the one year anniversary of ChatGPT for public use.  We are going to see the interesting impact of the unintended use of artificial intelligence. Mark adds to the dialogue by asking:  “What are some artificial intelligence educational uses our listeners need to know about?”  Efficiency, effectiveness, and accommodations are the facets of artificial intelligence Keith names as impacting teaching and learning. AI tools will assist in supporting teachers by easing the cognitive load in some ways.  Think of it as a copilot.  Sarah reviews the 80/20 rule thinking about AI, reminding us that you can never emphasize the human element enough sharing this quote:  “A brilliant solution to the wrong problem can be worse than no solution at all.”  Keep that in mind when we think about how we're using AI. Sarah responds:  “How does artificial intelligence reinforce creating equitable literacy learning opportunities for all?  Ron Houtman tells us that artificial intelligence is able to be personalized for students, so it is really allowing them to dig in to topics they are interested in through the “oracle in your pocket” via AI on devices.  Sarah details some examples of how AI can provide some efficiency for teachers. *Mark prompts:  “With artificial intelligence becoming a part of education what are some things that we might need to be cautious of?”  Keith emphasizes the need to keep the human in the loop.  We also need to be careful about creating a greater digital divide by blocking or banning AI in schools.  Ron cautions us about data privacy and security as we move forward with artificial intelligence.  *Following our normal podcast protocol, we ask for resources for educators to learn more about artificial intelligance and encourage our fabulous Kent ISD Ed Tech team to highlight some departing words for our listeners.  Ron encourages us to stay away from books related to artificial intelligence because the information is changing faster the books can be published.  He does direct us to educational youtube channels and professional organizations.  Check out our resource page for all the links! We wrap up this episode by asking listeners to share your thoughts on podcast topics - your voice matters!  Please visit bit.ly/LLCNtopics to tell us what you want future podcasts to focus on in relation to literacy.   All resources in this LLCN Brief (and future podcasts) can be found at:  bit.ly/LLCNresources2324  Subscribe to the Literacy Leadership and Coaches Network podcasts here: anchor.fm/llcnbrief or your favorite podcast platform. This episode discusses what makes a good health coach and how to choose the one that is the best fit for your situation. As someone who has worked in both western and eastern medicine and has a well rounded background in what is considered alternative and also traditional medicine, Sarah shares her opinion on why there is often a lack of understanding and cooperation between the different specialties and what to do to break down this divide.Sarah gives a plea to researchers to publish their findings regardless of whether it supports their hypothesis or not in the spirit of moving science forward and avoiding to repeat the same mistakes. This is important because it not only improves patient care, but it improves the overall knowledge that your practitioners have out there for taking care of their patients. There are different ways to design research studies and Sarah discusses how to design a study in a manner that helps people rather than just pushing profits for the sponsors of the study.Sinus issues are something that has plagued Sarah. She found out her sinus infection was really a “pain in the neck”! It is wonderful to have it gone and feel better,To contact Ruth: https://www.blairclinic.comruth@blairclinic.comhttps://www.facebook.com/rutelin

I Have to be Perfect or I am going to Mess Up My Kids: The Lies GOOD Moms Believe with Sarah Wood

Welcome to my latest series, LIES GOOD MOMS BELIEVE!  In today's episode I am joined with Sarah Wood. She is a friend, writer, speaker and Editor-in-Chief of Mom Mentor. Together, we're tackling the lie: I have to be perfect or I am going to mess up my kids. Our Momma hearts have a deep desire to do well and to be confident that we are, in fact, good moms who are doing a good job with our kids. We want to look back on our motherhood journey and know that we did what was pleasing to the Lord by raising little disciples who, ideally become adults living out their lives with kingdom purpose. So naturally, this is an area the enemy is going to attack because he knows if it is important to us, we can be found vulnerable. You are going to love this conversation with Sarah. She and I dive into the real life struggles, the mom fails and the lessons we've learned so far in our motherhood journeys as it pertains to perfectionism. Sarah will share how her experiences have helped her to grow as a mom and as a believer and offer you practical steps to encourage and get your started in silencing this lie and replace it with Truth about your identity, your mission and purpose. Are you ready? I'm so grateful you are joining me today! Let's dive in! You can connect with Sarah through Instagram!  Also check out her ministry, Mom Mentor! Here is where you can find her book, "What Other Moms Never Told Me".  For this week's downloadable prayer, click here!    FAVORITE TAKE-AWAYS: It's not about perfectionism, it's about control. We have to realize as moms that we are stewards, we're not puppet masters. Because it's God's plan for their lives, not our plans for their lives. We cannot impose our identity and self-worth on our children and their behavior. The minute we do that, it places this terrible millstone around their neck. God is the perfect Father but look at His children.   SCRIPTURE: 2 Timothy 1:6-7 2 Timothy 3:3-6   REMINDER: *Our children can be a process God teaches us, just as we teach them.  *Sometimes when we say no, that means we are a good mom. *As moms we are cultivating character. It's not about cultivating an image, it's about cultivating character. *God honors the prayers of a mother. It is something we do as warriors. *We are constantly standing in the way in between the enemy's pursuit of our kids and God's plan for their life.  STEPS we can walk out:  Think about what you're thinking about. Call it out and bring it into the light. Write it down and find a verse that will combat the lie. Get to work - keeping speaking God's Truth over yourself Lies are not only meant to discourage, they are meant to distract and take you off course.

You have heard today's guest this summer during our Fruit of the Spirit series. Sarah Wood is a ministry leader, Bible teacher, and content writer with a passion for discipleship. Sarah serves on the Ministry Strong team with Lisa Whittle, yet her most beloved role is that of Mom.  We dig deep into where our identity is rooted and the foundation we need to raise the next Gospel sharing generation. The inheritance that God promises is not perfect circumstances, the inheritance He promises is Himself. How do we live our lives with this perspective despite our seasons of change, and teach it to our children? Find out in today's episode.  My conversation with Sarah is honest and vulnerable as we explore unmasking appearances.  Sarah mentions two books:  Paul David Tripp "Parenting" You can purchase Here Foster Cline and Jim Fay "Love and Logic" You can purchase Here To connect with Sarah:  Instagram~Ministry Strong To connect with Courtney:  Click here for a downloadable graphic of this weeks verse.  Learn more about Courtney at courtneydoyleministries.com Connect with us on Instagram and Facebook

This summer series has been so full of wisdom and encouragement and today's final episode truly wraps up what I believe each of our guests has taught us... We are not capable of possessing any of these qualities without abiding in Jesus and being open and willing to hear the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  Our guest today is Sarah Wood. Sarah makes several powerful points on what self-control is and how we can achieve it, despite our sinful nature.  As a mom of 3, Sarah knows what it is like for self-control to be tested, with constant pivots, interruptions and demands, exercising self-control can be a moment by moment task.   When we abide in His spirit, it doesn't mean we rebuke or emotions when we are struggling, or stifle our feelings of frustration, we don't have to become a slave to the sinful thoughts we may think, we can bring ALL of them to Jesus and ask him to sort them out. He will respond when all we want to do is react.
