In episode 624, Megan chats to Danielle Hayden about developing a healthy mindset when it comes to business spending and why wise business investments pay off. Danielle is a CPA, author, Co-Founder and CEO of Kickstart Accounting. She is a seasoned Chief Financial Officer who is rewriting what it means to provide bookkeeping and consulting services to high-earning female business owners. The Kickstart Accounting Inc. team is the one-stop-shop that provides their clients with bookkeeping services as a tiered system that grows with the business as needed. Additionally, they offer online courses (think all things money mindset), payroll services and tax consulting services. Since their founding in 2015, the Kickstart team has helped thousands of high-earning service-based business owners grow and scale their businesses to new heights. In this episode, you'll learn about using an accounting system to track income and expenses, how to align spending with business goals, and invest in areas like advertising and marketing. Key points discussed include: - Invest in your business to grow, don't just cut spending: Cutting back on necessary expenses can jeopardize your business growth. Instead, invest in areas that will support your goals. - Know your numbers monthly: Having an accounting system and reviewing your finances monthly will help you make informed decisions and avoid overspending. - Align spending with your intentions: Determine your business goals for the next 12 months and ensure your spending aligns with those intentions. - Consistency builds trust: Showing up consistently, whether with content or marketing, sends a message that you are a reliable business. - Start with one investment, more will follow: Begin with one strategic investment, and other opportunities will reveal themselves as you progress. - Outsource tasks outside your expertise: Don't try to do everything yourself; outsource bookkeeping and other tasks that are not your zone of genius. - Advertising and marketing are key investments: Prioritize spending on advertising and marketing to support business growth, but be patient and consistent with your efforts. - Believe in yourself and your business: Your mindset and the messages you send to the universe through your investments can impact your success. - Review and adjust spending regularly: Reassess your spending and align it with your evolving business goals and life stages. The Second Phase Podcast - Personal Branding & Brand Marketing and Life Strategies for Success for Female Entrepreneurs

The key to healthy finances is understanding your budget and managing your debt appropriately. Don't let the term "inventory" deter you. Whether you're running a product—or service-based venture, managing assets, understanding balance sheets, and navigating the complex waters of entrepreneurship are invaluable to having healthy finances in your business. The Importance of Understanding Your Numbers Knowing your numbers is critical for healthy finances and business success. Entrepreneurs should stay updated on various financial documents, such as balance sheets and profit and loss statements, to fully understand their numbers. Balance Sheets and Profit and Loss Statements 1. Balance Sheet: This provides a snapshot of your business's financial health at a given point in time. It lists all your assets (what you own) and liabilities (what you owe). Understanding your balance sheet is crucial for knowing how well your business can meet its debt obligations and handle unexpected expenses. 2. Profit and Loss Statement: Unlike the balance sheet, which is a snapshot, a profit and loss statement (P&L) is more like a rearview mirror, showing your business's performance over a specific period. It includes your revenue, costs of goods sold, and various expenses. Reviewing this monthly helps you keep track of your financial performance and identify any anomalies or opportunities for improvement. By regularly reviewing these statements, entrepreneurs can make informed decisions about taking out a loan, investing in new assets, or adjusting pricing strategies which all add up to having healthy finances. Navigating Debt in Business for Healthy Finances Debt is a significant concern for many entrepreneurs. The right kind of debt can be beneficial, while the wrong kind can be devastating. Ciara provides practical advice on managing debt wisely: 1. Good Debt vs. Bad Debt: Not all debt is bad. For instance, an SBA loan or a line of credit can be constructive if used wisely. The key is understanding why you need the debt and ensuring you can manage repayments. 2. Debt for Investment: Using debt to invest in your business, like buying a building or necessary equipment, can be a good move. However, taking on debt to cover operational shortfalls without addressing the underlying issues is perilous. 3. Personal Guarantees: Be aware of personal guarantees when signing leases or loan agreements. These can put your personal assets at risk if your business fails to meet its financial obligations. Turning Losses into Wins You hope you will never be in a crisis, but the key to being prepared if one does hit is creating a mindset of resilience. By mentally preparing and building the right habits, you can navigate difficult times more effectively and emerge stronger. Read the full show notes

Here at C-Suite Boutique, we prefer to take a middle approach, looking at only the key pieces of data you need as a leader to give you a snapshot of your business without wasting precious time and energy. This week's episode 104 of Female Founders Breaking Boundaries is about the top 10 metrics to pay attention to in your business!Have you ever felt like you were WAY too busy, stressed out, burnt out, and overwhelmed, so you were advised to delegate some tasks to take things off your plate and free up some time? It's not that clinicians are getting paid that much more.”“We say come work for a fiercely independent nursing organization that's going to provide you with a higher level of quality of life and purpose and meaning in your work.”“One of the things we're finding is that the healthcare experience is so broken in the United States right now that there are too many things to fix.”“We're not going to fix this problem ourselves. This is a problem that's going to take everybody to fix, but can we be a central moving cog of that wheel and present these solutions? Yes.”“The ER is an extremely dynamic environment where you're constantly tasked with solving problems. I really attribute a lot of my knowledge and the way I think about healthcare to that ER experience.”“You have to have the humility to accept a lot of feedback and learn a lot of things because the moment you think you know it all, you're going to find yourself in a world of hurt.”Recommended Listening:Healthy Business Matters podcast with Nathan Baar and Dr. Andrew WhiteConnect with Nathan Baar:Email: info@healthbar.comHealthBar.comNathan Baar on LinkedInHealthBar on Facebook

"In my daily life, I play numerous roles, including that of a mom, spouse, entrepreneur, friend, student, teacher, and patient. Each of these personas demands specific attention and care. Without a clear plan of action, I would often feel overwhelmed, struggling to prioritize tasks effectively.I vividly recall a time when my daily routine left me feeling drained and unexcited about my business. I would open my shop, feeling weighed down and directionless. I took on tasks as they came, without a strategic plan, resulting in stagnation. Despite having knowledge and ideas about what I should be doing to grow my business, exhaustion and lack of direction held me back."This excerpt touches on the challenges of balancing multiple roles and the impact of not having a clear plan in both personal and business life. We all have one. Some of us have multiple. You may even have one in every room of your house. It's the junk drawer. True Story: I was looking for a piece of wood in my garage to prop up my desk for a project. It was not until I took and posted the image for this post, that I saw the perfect piece (gray on the right) in my junk drawer. I think we all have two kinds of junk drawers. One where we place things we actually use all the time but don't want to leave on the table or counter. The second is the one where we put stuff we think you will need one day, and ultimately forget where it is or that we even have it somewhere. Business data (especially in marketing) is part of the lifeblood of business. Yet it is often neglected and lacks organization. It can be organized like a junk drawer or a workbench that is accessed when you need a tool. Email - The collection of email addresses we get from our online forms, accounting data, and CRM. Social Media - Connections can often be exported using a CRM. I use Nimble's LinkedIn Prospector often for this purpose. CRM - These can often be imported and exported from your online forms, accounting data, tradeshows, and other business interactions. Segmenting success is in the eye of the beholder. You want to segment to make it useful to each branch of your tree. If accounting can find clients, and sales can find prospects that's great, but further segmenting should have a purpose, not just a label. You want to make it visible and useful as with your primary junk drawer. It will always have some things that you don't use often, but when you need them, they're accessible. "Good leaders organize and align people around what the team needs to do. Great leaders motivate and inspire people with why they're doing it. That's purpose. And that's the key to achieving something truly transformational." - Marillyn Hewson In this episode, we will discuss how your data can be treated like a junk drawer, and how you can work with it and your staff to make it more useful and relevent.
