    Ivy Insights

The GreatBase Tennis Podcast is an outstanding resource for anyone involved in the sport of tennis. Hosted by Steve Smith and Andy Fitzell, this podcast stands out from the rest with its no-nonsense approach and wealth of knowledge. As someone who has studied tennis extensively, I can confidently say that Steve and Andy are the real deal. They have a deep understanding of technical skills and how to develop them through repetition, making them highly effective coaches.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the depth of information it provides. Whether you're a player, coach, or parent, there is something for everyone in every episode. The hosts share their vast experiences and training in the sport through entertaining stories, which keeps listeners engaged while also imparting valuable lessons. The fact-based approach taken by Steve and Andy ensures that listeners are getting accurate information and practical advice to improve their game.

Another standout feature of The GreatBase Tennis Podcast is the variety of topics covered. From interviews with experts in the field to discussions on training techniques and systems, each episode offers a unique perspective on different aspects of tennis teaching and development. This diversity makes it a must-listen for tennis enthusiasts, as well as those looking to gain insights into the sport.

While it's difficult to find any major flaws with this podcast, some listeners may find certain episodes too lengthy or intense. With episodes often exceeding 100 minutes, it can be challenging for some people to dedicate that amount of time to listening. However, the hosts do a great job of breaking down complex concepts into easily understandable segments, which helps alleviate this issue to some extent.

In conclusion, The GreatBase Tennis Podcast is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in tennis. Steve Smith and Andy Fitzell's extensive experience as coaches shines through in every episode as they share their knowledge and expertise in an engaging manner. Whether you're a player looking to improve your skills or a coach seeking new techniques, this podcast has something for everyone. I highly recommend giving it a listen and taking advantage of the wealth of information it provides.

The veteran pro teaches adults and juniors at MIT and the Marcus Lewis Indoor Center. He was born in Boston and then raised in Italy until the age of fourteen. He began school in the US without speaking a word of English. Yet he became an outstanding student and completed a degree at Boston College (BC).Prior to BC, he found his way to study tennis with Steve Smith at Tyler Junior College (TJC).  That connection initially took place thirty-seven years ago. The two have continued to work together to help people improve. Frank's passion for the game is second to none. He has a charming personality and an impressive command of teaching solid fundamentals, as Steve says. "It's always fun to see Frank, he's fun and he makes tennis fun." More importantly, Frank knows that if his players are always trying to improve through obtaining solid fundamentals, they will have more fun. From this episode, there are many golden nuggets to add to one's tennis treasure chest. On the 203rd episode of the GreatBase Tennis podcast, Steve Smith, Ivan Ozerets and Andres Barbosa talk about tennis from the service line in. The whys and why-nots of going forward in singles and doubles are discussed. The statement that one only goes to the net to pick up balls and shake hands used to only apply to little kids at the grass root level. Now the statement applies to all levels of play. The disappearance of wooden racquets, the players not wearing spikes on the grass at Wimbledon, and the two-handed backhand becoming commonplace are dated factors. The new theme of  "serve plus one" is instant coffee, a much faster approach than trying to learn to play a complete all-court game. As always, we hope our listeners acquire a higher level of understanding of the complexities of tennis by tuning in. We also hope our listeners will find a way to encourage fellow tennis enthusiasts to not fall victim to net phobia.
