Nate Lammons is one of my favorite people to run in to at every tournament. He's down to earth, not impressed by pretense, and just a good human to be around. He also happens to be one of the top 20 doubles players in the world. We chopped it up about his rise to that level, and some of the top doubles topics right now, including the US decision not to play Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek during Davis Cup this year. At Indian Wells, they lost 10-7 in the third to the eventual champions who only dropped that one set all week. You'll hear how Austin focuses on the process and doesn't put too much weight on any one tournament or month. This week in a slightly different change to the format, Candy Reid and Chris Bowers sat down with World Number One doubles pair, Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski to discuss the health of the doubles game and how it might grow and develop in the future. The team also speak to legendary coach and doubles master tactician, Louis Cayer and this year's Roland Garros doubles champion, Austin Krajicek.WESLEY KOOLHOF ON HOW TO PROMOTE THE DOUBLES GAME - 'The biggest thing is marketing. Obviously the singles guys are the big stars and we also need the big stars to play doubles as well to get more viewers, but I think mainly the marketing side of doubles could be looked at'.NEAL SKUPSKI ON DOUBLES GLOBAL NATURE - 'The points are going to be a lot shorter, quicker around the net, a lot of fun points, it's a completely different game. It depends on where we go in the world, for example when we go to America we tend to see a lot more fans come just to watch the doubles and places around the world as well, certain countries. Doubles just needs to be shown more on tv to get us out there'.LOUIS CAYER ON HOW THE DOUBLES GAME HAS CHANGED OVER THE YEARS - 'The game has changed a lot. When I started there was less than ten percent of the serves staying back in doubles, now it's over sixty percent. It's very normal now for top singles players and even some doubles players to stay back because of the quality of the return'.AUSTIN KRAJICEK ON REACHING NUMBER ONE EARLIER IN THE YEAR - ‘It's been a goal of mine to win a Grand Slam and being number one ever since I was a kid. Sometimes it didn't feel it's attainable and it was a surreal thing, just for a week as Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski passed me by, but I can always say I was number one and hopefully I can get back there'.- Show presented by Candy Reid- Interviews by Candy Reid, Chris Bowers and Jill Craybas

This is an interview with world #1 doubles player and 2023 Roland Garros champion, Austin Krajicek.Austin recently rose to the top of the doubles rankings with his first major title, and he joined me from London where he was beginning his grass court season (he won the Queen's Club Championships a few days after our conversation). Austin and his partner, Ivan Dodig, lost in the Roland Garros final in 2022, so I ask Austin to compare that run to his recent title in Paris. We also discuss:What Austin has improved over the past 2-3 years that helped him move from a ranking of 40 at the end of 2021 to #1 today. How he spends his off days at tournaments, as well as his off time outside of tennis.Advantages of being a left-handed doubles player and advice for righties who are playing with lefties for the first time.My takeaway from this conversation is that hard work and details matter. At one point Austin said "there are no secrets", and he's right. #atp #wta #doublestennis #tennis #frenchopen #rolandgarros Barbora Krejcikova and Kateřina Siniaková suffered a shock loss in round 1 to Ulrikke Eikeri and Eri Hozumi as the most dominant pair in the sport currently went out early despite taking the first set. The controversy of the tournament came arguably in the disqualification of Aldila Sutjiadi and Miyu Kato after a ball girl was struck by a stray ball, and the players were kicked out of the tournament at the behest of their opponents Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo. While the title in the Women's Doubles eventually went to Hsieh Su-wei and Wang Xinyu after they overcame Leylah Fernandez and Taylor Townsend in the final, the mixed version of the event when to Kato and her German partner Tim Puetz, meaning there was a happy ending to the Japanese player's tournament. The pair beat surprise finalists Bianca Andreescu and Michael Venus 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 in the deciding set tie-break. Meanwhile, Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Austin Krajicek of the US defeated Belgian duo Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen 6-3, 6-1 in the Men's Doubles final. On the 108th episode of the GreatBase Tennis (GBT) podcast, Steve Smith and Austin Krajicek have a tennis conversation. The two have known each other for twenty-five years. A couple of weeks before Austin turned 8 years old, Steve produced a narrated slow-motion analysis for Austin and his parents, Rob and Sherry. Austin was on his way to a national event (Little Mo). Steve suggested that the family wait until they return from the tournament for Austin to begin the process to re-building his technical base.  To make an understatement, Austin has an extremely impressive resume. He is a Kalamazoo (US national 18's) champion, a six time All-American, a member of the Texas A & M Hall of Fame and a US Olympian. In singles, Austin earned a top 100 ranking. In doubles, he currently is ranked 15 in the world. Most recently, he and his partner (Ivan Dodig) reached the French Open finals. We are confident that our audience will thoroughly enjoy listening to this podcast. Austin certainly knows his way around the tennis world and has an abundance of tennis and life experiences to share.
