It's that time of year again - on May 17, 2025, the masses will descend upon Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, for the 4th installment of what has become a destination, a cultural touchstone for fans of classic alternative, new wave, punk, synth-pop, goth, and dark wave - the Cruel World festival. Goldenvoice has once again put together a fantastic lineup of legends, younger bands who are carrying the torch, and a couple of surprises thrown in. This year's lineup includes New Order, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Go-Go's, Devo, OMD, Death Cult, Garbage, Madness, the first appearance of the original ‘Til Tuesday lineup in 35 years, Midge Ure, Clan of Xymox, Buzzcocks, Stereo MC's, Blancmange, Alison Moyet, and "next generation" acts like Nation of Language and She Wants Revenge. As has become O3L tradition, we celebrate this annual event with an episode where we each pick the five acts that we are, or at least would be, most excited to see at this year's festival. This year, we've got a special guest Third Lad joining us, a gentleman who can rightfully be called Gen X's DJ - someone who grew up, like us, under the spell of this music and continues to keep it alive to not only our generation, but subsequent generations. Jake Rudh has hosted Minnesota Public Radio's The Current for 15 years, the weekly Transmission club night in Minneapolis for nearly 25 years, he has been a resident DJ at the famous First Avenue (yes, where a lot of Purple Rain took place) for 15 years, as well as the annual ‘80s music festival '80s in the Sands in Mexico, which is hosted by Richard Blade and many of the classic MTV VJs. We also have Jake to thank for the amazing content on the Slicing Up Eyeballs Facebook page - album anniversaries, artist birthdays, tour announcements and other news. Program spurred by federal cuts Hudson Valley farmers reeling from cuts and freezes to federal funding will get some help from one of their own as the growing season gets underway. On Tuesday (April 8), the Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming in Philipstown announced it is accepting applications for private aid designed to buoy operations as the U.S. Department of Agriculture cancels grants, produce purchases for food pantries and schools and funding for other farming initiatives. Describing its Hudson Valley Farm Relief Fund as a "time-limited emergency response," Glynwood hopes to raise as much as $1.5 million to distribute to farmers in Dutchess, Putnam and nine other counties who have lost funding from nearly 20 federal programs. Applications are open through April 21 at dub.sh/HV-farm-aid. Recipients can use the funds "in the most impactful way for their business," according to Glynwood. The funding freezes and contract cancellations began after Brooke Rollins took the oath as the USDA's secretary on Feb. 13. A week later, Rollins said the agency's programs "are focused on supporting farmers and ranchers, not DEIA [Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility] programs or far-left climate programs." Some of the frozen contracts were for the USDA's Partnership for Climate Smart Commodities program, which awarded grants to the Hudson Valley and three other regions to improve the ability of farmers to adapt to drought, extreme heat and other threats from climate change. Glynwood, which oversees the program, hired Zach Wolf of EZ Farms in Columbia County to develop plans for eight farms. The practices included planting cover crops, as well as integrating more trees to act as a windbreak, improving soil, water and air quality and providing perennial crops in the form of fruit. "We have partners who received letters out of the blue telling them that their government contracts - contracts that have been signed and that they were already doing work toward - have been canceled," said Megan Larmer, the senior director of programs at Glynwood. On Wednesday (April 9), U.S. Rep. Pat Ryan, a Democrat whose district includes Beacon, lambasted cuts to The Emergency Food Assistance Program, through which the USDA purchases locally grown farm products for food banks to distribute to hospitals, pantries, schools, senior centers and soup kitchens. Some of the local beneficiaries, such as the Philipstown Food Pantry, receive TEFAP-purchased food through the Regional Food Bank in Montgomery, which said it expects the cuts to cost it 200 tractor-trailer shipments delivering an estimated 8 million pounds of food from farmers. "I had to read this five times before I believed it," said Ryan of the canceled shipments. "We're all already feeling the crunch of the affordability crisis, which is made immeasurably worse by Trump's tariffs. Now he's ripping food away from hungry children - it's absolutely disgusting." Hudson Valley farmers who benefited from the federal Local Food Purchase Assistance funding are among those eligible for Glynwood's emergency aid. Along with another program facing cuts, Local Foods for Schools, LFPA funding allows food banks, schools and childcare programs to buy food from farmers. Using LFPA funding, the state's Food for New York Families program awarded $2 million in 2023 to the Regional Food Bank and $2 million to Cornell Cooperative Extension Putnam County, which has bought and distributed 290,000 pounds of farm products via pantries and a truck whose stops include the county senior center and Chestnut Ridge in Cold Spring and the Brookside mobile home park in Philipstown.

Proactive's Tylah Tully breaks down ‘Just the Facts' of the latest news from Brookside Energy Ltd. Brookside is progressing with its strategic expansion in the Anadarko Basin, Oklahoma, with drilling preparations for the Bruins Well in the SWISH Play acreage unmderway. The Bruins Well, which is expected to spud by the end of this month, will be the first of three planned wells in the company's 2025 drilling program and will feature a 10,000-foot lateral well targeting the Woodford Shale formation. Pre-spud activities, including site selection, regulatory approvals and surface agreements, have been completed, and an all-weather drilling pad is under construction. Brookside anticipates increasing its working interest in the Bruins Well to approximately 70%, subject to final regulatory approvals. As of December 31, 2024, SWISH Play wells had produced a total of 2.5 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE). The Bruins Well is projected to produce more than 1 million BOE in its lifetime, with approximately 640,000 BOE (~53% liquids) expected in the first five years. Estimated gross capital expenditure for the well is around US$11 million. Brookside views the Bruins Well as a key milestone in its drilling program and aims to maximise production outcomes, create value for shareholders and further expand its operations in the Anadarko Basin. #BrooksideEnergy, #OilAndGas, #EnergyInvestment, #AnadarkoBasin, #SWISHPlay, #BruinsWell, #DrillingOperations, #USOil, #ShaleProduction, #EnergySector, #Hydrocarbons, #OilExploration, #ResourceDevelopment, #EnergyGrowth, #WellSpudding, #WoodfordShale, #BOEProduction, #OperationalMilestone, #OilIndustry, #ShareholderValue
Proactive's Tylah Tully breaks down ‘Just the Facts' of the latest news from Brookside Energy Ltd (ASX: BRK, OTC:RDFEF). The company has revealed its strategic initiatives for 2025, focusing on inventory growth and a targeted drilling program within the Anadarko Basin in Oklahoma. This builds on a successful 2024, despite recent oil price volatility, to position the company for long-term value creation. The company is expanding its portfolio of low-cost, high-margin drilling locations in the SWISH play and Anadarko Basin. Key efforts include securing a fifth Drilling Spacing Unit (DSU) to extend drilling inventory beyond the current four-year plan. Brookside aims to leverage geological, geophysical and reservoir data to unlock additional value in underdeveloped areas. Brookside's targeted drilling program includes three new 10,000-foot lateral horizontal wells. The first well is scheduled to spud in Q1 2025, with preparatory work underway, while the remaining two wells, targeting a new DSU, are planned for Q3. The company projects net production in 2025 to double from pre-FMDP levels, with a 30–40% increase over 2024. The capex budget is US$18.3 million, and EBITDA is forecast at US$18.0 million, assuming WTI crude oil at US$75 per barrel and natural gas at US$2.50 per Mcf. Brookside will present its updated five-year plan to investors via a webinar in early 2025. #ProactiveInvestors #BrooksideEnergy #ASX #SWISHPlay #AnadarkoBasin #DrillingProgram #OilAndGas #EnergyProduction #WTICrude #NaturalGas #EnergyInvestment #CAPEX #OilProduction #EnergyMarkets #SustainableGrowth #InvestorUpdate #ShareholderReturns #EnergyStrategy #TargetedDrilling #FMDP #USOil

We could be experiencing the October surprise this week and not even know it because it's so dark and nefarious. Of course I'm the guy that will bring it up. In KCMO they are blaming all the crime on everything except a city hall that's not a fan of the police department. The latest? Brookside residents want the National Guard called in. If you're of a certain age, your childhood as a sports fan was defined by Royals/Yankees playoff series' and it was mostly awful. Walk off home runs, storming the field, Billy Martin messing with George Brett and homer Howard Cosell calling all the big games. It was dreadful. This series could help erase whatever 1980's win over the Bombers did not. Chris Jones had a wonderful interview on NFL Network talking about the team's mission this year, we'll play part of it for you as the Chiefs prep for the Saints. Lee Sterling of www.paramountsports.com is here with his picks and our song of the week is one of the hottest tickets in music singing a song that sounds like it's about Joe and Hunter Biden.

Brookside is a small town in Alabama where police used a civil war-era state loophole to create a traffic ticketing nightmare for residents and generate piles of cash for the local government. After years of abuse, the people are fighting back. Just 20 minutes north of Birmingham on Interstate 22, Brookside is a working-class town with less than 1,300 residents. From 2018 to 2020, income from traffic fines and forfeitures increased 640%, making up 49% of the towns revenue. In 2019, Brookside saw its first lawsuit that included allegations of racism and police misconduct. It caught national attention for being a predatory speed trap in 2022 and now facing a class-action federal lawsuit. Marco Casanova is a Catholic leader of a ministry called Living Waters, helping people pursue healing, often around sexuality. TJ and David had a very engaging talk with Marco about his take on homosexuality/same-sex attraction, marriage and singleness, Pope John Paul II, and the work of healing and transformation. Within the Christian sexuality conversation, Marco's approach might be called “Side X”, although he differs from the approach of older “ex-gay” ministries. Join us in listening and learning from our guest as we seek to understand his story and perspective. About Our Guest: Marco Casanova is Associate Director of Desert Stream Ministries. He encountered Living Waters as a seminarian seeking answers in his broken sexuality. After eight years, Marco left priestly formation and joined the Desert Stream team. His primary task is to oversee Living Waters USA and to equip lay faithful to run effective healing groups in their church communities. He married his wife Ania in December 2022. The Casanovas are parishioners of St. Peter's Parish, Brookside, MO. __________ Timestamps (01:30) Marco's story of same sex attraction, sexual addiction (14:25) What is "integration," at Living Waters?
