Nicole Moehring is the Founder of Voices of Change 2018 (VOC), a nonprofit whose mission is to reduce the risk of sexual abuse for children with disabilities. Nicole has a daughter and an autistic son who are victims of sexual abuse and assault. In her pursuit of justice, she was shocked to see the difference in how the justice system believed her daughter and was treated so well, yet her son was not. She felt like her son didn't matter. Her experience inspired her to create Voices of Change to educate families and the public to prevent others from experiencing her unimaginable nightmare. Today, she serves on the Ohio Attorney General Committee for Crime Victims with Disabilities. She works with legislators to change and pass laws to enforce more robust policies and create best practices for reporting child abuse and processing cases. And just last year, she received the annual ‘Crucial Point Award' presented to people and organizations that delve beyond the surface of sex crimes to focus on overlooked niches of survivorship. SHOW NOTES On this episode, I become the guest, Michael Matucci, a filmmaker, director/ writer, and activist, asks me intimate questions about my life as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and the effects it had on my life decades later. About Ed Squire For over 20 years, I was a senior business consultant for Fortune 500 and global companies throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. In 2018, I started a nonprofit called 'MeToo, WhatNow,' advocating for survivors of childhood trauma and abuse. Now I've dedicated my life to helping survivors rebuild their lives from the ground up to reclaim their identity and restore their dignity. From age 4 until 10, I was sexually abused by four men; my step-grandfather, a next-door neighbor, and my elementary school teacher. In 2016, I filed a lawsuit against the teaching and the school board that hired him. I'm currently producing a documentary about the experience. On this episode, Michael asks me the following: How I characterize my work with film and camera on videos? What compels and inspires me to create the kind of content that I do? What is the message I like to send about trauma? Why is it important for me to talk about the sexual abuse I experienced as a child decades later? What can manifest in a survivor's life if we don't deal with the past? What are some examples of coping mechanisms that survivors use? How do I change the “shame game” as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse? What is driving men to pay for sex? What would I say to the people who are working to stem the demand of men paying for sex? What is the one message I want to send to my listeners? My guest is filmmaker, director/producer, actor, and activist, Michael Matucci. On this episode we talk about: One of his recent documentaries called, “Teens for Sale - Sex Trafficking in Suburban America”, and what drew him to create this film. The power each individual has within themselves to be a force for change and good in society. How life can be birthed in the darkest of dark. What if life was a blessing? What if our hardships are key parts to our story? How technology today is giving us the opportunity to send a message to people's hearts who may not be aware of their and doing it in a way that will reach them. Being present with what you do and trusting that, the people you're trying to impact will reach out and take your hand. The difference between working for impact, purpose, and for a higher power, instead of working for self-promotion or to get yourself somewhere. One of the things I love most about Michael, is his personal mission. “I ignite the Truth and empower people's paths of purpose and mission” =========================== CONNECT WITH MICHAEL Website: http://www.michaelmatucci.com Clubhouse: @courageouslove Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michaelmatucci/ CONNECT WITH ED: Visible Kindness Website: https://www.visiblekindness.com MeTooWhatNow Website: https://www.metoowhatnow.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/metoowhatnow YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrvoCb8aYfT8V6Qo53cs81A Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/visiblekindness/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/edsquire/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/metoowhatnow

On this episode, I welcome mindfulness coach Katrina Gleisberg and co-creator of the ‘Calm During Chaos' mindfulness e-Course. Katrina has a background as a special education teacher, and she also led a support group called ‘The Military Club,' for students raised with a military background. Living in a military family, Katarina taught special education for 3rd and 4th-grade students in multiple countries. During her travels, she noticed a marked difference in the student's ability to settle down, focus, and become more productive after a mindfulness practice she learned of, called T.A.P.S. (Total and Perfect Silence). Katarina says, “Mindfulness can be practiced anywhere, anytime, free of charge for everyone! Anyone can learn a personal, simple, mindfulness practice, without adding extra time into their daily routine. On this episode: How to calm an entire classroom of children using a technique called T.A.P.S. (Total and perfect silence). Why being calm is NOT the same as being mindful? The side effects of mindfulness. What are the greatest benefits of mindfulness? Why it's important to be mindful before taking on a project or an important task. How you can be mindful using different techniques and exercises. Why self-compassion is better than self-esteem. Katarina and I do a mindfulness exercise. I met Steve Elliott when I was filming an event at the Kelowna Yacht Club in British Columbia, Canada in 2018. Steve is a world class tribute artist, vocalist, and entertainer from Vancouver BC. Steve also excels in other voices such as Neil Diamond, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Nat King Cole, Jerry Lee Lewis and others! In addition to being a tribute artist, Steve is also an accomplished acrylic painter and water-color artist. On this episode we're going to talk about: How he got his accidental start from a comment he made at a karaoke bar about someone else's rendition of Elvis. How his upbringing created the foundation for a side hobby as an acrylic and watercolor painter. How the covid crisis has changed his life in positive ways, even with the cancellation of much of his business. But most of all, we're going to talk about the heartfelt kindness towards others which is in all of us ...if we choose to. I'm honored to have him as my first guest on Visible Kindness. This is part one of a two-part show. Welcome to the Visible Kindness podcast. Can kindness provide real solutions in a polarized and divided culture? If we paid more attention to it, would it make much of a difference? We believe the answer is, “Yes!” But we know we're more effective working together than alone, and something exponentially powerful happens when we do. In each episode, we share kindness stories, opportunities for kindness, and ways we can partner to serve more people.
