When a special guest gets to pick this week's movie, it's a perfect 80s time capsule with a sad situation on the penumbra of an adventure. But after the Goonies spend a week at the waterpark with Steven Spielberg, a completely different protagonist actually saves the day. What did the 80s contribute to the Commedia dell'arte? Do all Amblin films take place in the same universe? Why doesn't Astoria have a social safety net? It's the episode that imagines both its prequel and its sequel.Support the production of Greatest TrekGet a thing at podshop.biz!Sign up for our mailing list!Greatest Trek is produced by Wynde PriddySocial media is managed by Rob Adler and Bill TilleyMusic by Adam RaguseaFriends of DeSoto for: Labor | Democracy | JusticeDiscuss the show using the hashtag #GreatestTrek and find us on social media:YouTube | Facebook | X | Instagram | TikTok | Mastodon | Bluesky | ThreadsAnd check out these online communities run by FODs: Reddit | USS Hood Discord | Facebook group | Wikia | FriendsOfDeSoto.social

Thanks for sending in your questions! Anthony and Laurie asked Star Trek: Prodigy co-executive producer Aaron Waltke our listeners’ burning questions and squeezed in some of our own. He talked about time travel, Gwyn’s hair, convincing Star Trek actors to join the cast (and the ones who passed), connecting the show to the others in the Star Trek Universe, the show’s performance on Netflix, and much more. The podcasters wrapped things up after Aaron left by sharing Seth Meyers’ speculation on the redacted Star Trek comments in the January 6th court filing, Kate Mulgrew’s play in NYC, and Laurie’s upcoming appearance at Parthenon Books in Syracuse, NY, to promote her Gilmore Girls book.

We have something a little different on today's Cryptid Creator Corner, but I think it's a conversation you are really going to enjoy. I'm chatting with Aaron Waltke, the Co-Executive Producer and Co-Head Writer for Season Two of Star Trek: Prodigy, which is available now on Netflix. I have been a fan of Star Trek for as long as I can remember. Star Trek: The Next Generation started when I was 8 years old and I was hooked. I started watching Star Trek: Prodigy with my 11 year old daughter Charlotte and we both loved it: the characters, the fun of it all, the adventure, so I was delighted to chat with Aaron about Prodigy and being in the writer's room and now co-Head Writer for Season Two. But don't worry if you tune in for comics talk because Aaron wrote one of the stories in this year's How to Lose a Guy Gardner in 10 Days and we discuss how that opportunity came about and how he approached writing Red Tornado. I hope you give this one a listen and indulge me as I nerd out with a fellow Trekkie and be sure to watch Season One and Season Two of Star Trek: Prodigy now on Netflix. From Netflix After discovering an abandoned Starfleet ship, a ragtag crew of young adventurers unites to explore the galaxy and evade a ruthless overlord. Our episode sponsors After the Realm Don't miss Eisner and Harvey award winning comics creator Michael Avon Oeming's newest crowdfunding project After The Realm. With over 300 pages of material and 22 new pages of story, this graphic novel collects issues 1-5 of this realm trotting dystopian fantasy adventure that follows young ranger Oona Lightfoot's travels and travails trying to find her best friend as the nine realms are torn asunder.
