ActionSA Parliamentary Caucus Leader, Athol Trollip will conduct an oversight visit to Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape to assess a recurring foot‑and‑mouth disease outbreak. The region is experiencing its second outbreak within a year. Trollip's visit will focus on how the government's delayed response is affecting large dairy farmers. Elvis Presslin spoke to Mr. Trollip, who is also a sixth‑generation farmer and member of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture
In this episode of BizNews Daybreak, Alec Hogg covers the intersection of high-stakes global politics and critical local challenges: Trump's Nobel Moment: Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado presents her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Donald Trump at the White House, calling him the “heir to Washington”. US-Taiwan Trade Deal: The US and Taiwan agree to a trade deal that lowers tariffs to 15% and secures a $250bn investment in the American AI and energy sectors. Jamie Dimon on the Fed: JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon dismisses speculation, saying there is “no chance” he will replace Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve Chair. SA's Agriculture Crisis: Minister John Steenhuisen is under pressure as Foot and Mouth Disease spreads like a “veld fire,” with ActionSA's Athol Trollip criticising the lack of compensation for farmers. Market Rally: The JSE sees gains with Purple Group (+3%) and local car retailers up, while global tech giants ASML and TSMC surge on the back of the AI boom. Investment Insight: A look at why the “flow of funds” is currently outweighing company fundamentals in driving share prices.
From dairy farms to feedlots, South Africa's agricultural economy is under siege. Athol Trollip outlines how foot-and-mouth disease has crushed production, frozen incomes and exposed deep failures inside the Department of Agriculture. A conversation every business leader and taxpayer should hear.
The appointment of Advocate Andy Mothibi as the new National Director of Public Prosecutions has been met with cautious optimism by ActionSA. The party says the move highlights the need for reform in how the heads of the prosecuting authority are appointed. ActionSA is concerned that Mothibi's appointment, made unilaterally by President Cyril Ramaphosa, may not bring the change needed to address the NPA's deep-seated problems. Mothibi will serve as NDPP for just two years before retiring, raising questions about his ability to make a meaningful impact. For more clarity Elvis Presslin spoke to ActionSA Parliamentary leader Athol Trollip
ActionSA has objected to the shortlisting of Advocate Menzi Simelane as National Director of Public Prosecutions, citing adverse findings against him. The party says Simelane's inclusion in the NDPP shortlisting undermines the process and calls for a candidate with unquestionable integrity to head the NPA. Elvis Presslin spoke to ActionSA Parliamentary Caucus Leader, Athol Trollip
President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned a disinformation campaign affecting South Africa's relations with the US. Addressing the nation last night, Ramaphosa said the US administration's stance has been influenced by false information spread by groups and individuals in South Africa and abroad. He warns this is harming the country's interests, costing jobs and damaging ties with a key partner. ActionSA Parliamentary Caucus Leader, Athol Trollip...
Rampahosa faces mounting pressure to reduce cabinet size- Athol Trollip by Radio Islam
Athol Trollip, Member of the National Assembly and ActionSA leader, joins the conversation amid growing concern that the upcoming National Dialogue is unravelling before it begins. The Democratic Alliance has dismissed the event as a costly “talk shop” and called for its cancellation. Prominent civil society organisations, including the Steve Biko Foundation and the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, have withdrawn, citing a lack of credibility and meaningful engagement. Trollip reveals that ActionSA is also reconsidering its involvement, arguing that South Africans are desperate for tangible action on the economy and jobs—not more political theatre. With growing scepticism from both political and civil society actors, we explore whether the National Dialogue still serves the public interest or has become a stage-managed exercise in optics. 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. Forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan has come out swinging—accusing KwaZulu-Natal police boss Lt. Gen. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of criminality and calling ActionSA's Athol Trollip a liar. In an explosive 18-page dossier and this follow-up interview with Alec Hogg, O'Sullivan lays out his case: a police service captured at the highest level, a slush fund ballooning to R600 million, luxury gifts from shady suppliers, extrajudicial killings, and a nation dangerously fooled by a uniform. He joins the dots—and what emerges is nothing short of a bombshell.
In today's BizNews Briefing: Bain & Co exits South Africa after Zondo fallout; Athol Trollip lays charges against Paul O'Sullivan amid a feud over whistleblower General Mkwanazi. Magnus Heystek and Piet Viljoen go head-to-head in a R1 million investment duel. Sarah Burger clears her name. And Donald Trump strikes a surprise EU tariff deal, before turning his sights on Vladimir Putin.
ActionSA parliamentary leader Athol Trollip has laid criminal charges against forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan after a barrage of threats and accusations. Trollip says he was simply calling for urgent investigation into police corruption, but won't be intimidated from doing his job as an MP. Trollip spoke to BizNews' Alec Hogg.
ActionSA Parliamentary Leader, Athol Trollip MP, is today laying criminal charges against forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan at the Cape Town Central Police Station. ActionSA says this follows a series of intimidation tactics and direct threats issued by O'Sullivan towards Trollip. ActionSA views these actions as a direct attack on an elected official and believes that such conduct must be dealt with in accordance with the law. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC parliamentary reporter, Bulelani Philip
ActionSA has introduced a constitutional amendment bill aimed at overhauling the executive branch of government. The proposed bill seeks to abolish the positions of 43 deputy ministers, citing redundancy and financial waste. The party's parliamentary leader, Athol Trollip, argues that this move will save South Africa billions of rands and promote accountability in government. Elvis Presslin spoke to Athol Trollip to elaborate on his sentiments

Closer to home, South Africa's political theater takes center stage: DA's Mark Burke dramatically rips up his speech, Action SA's Athol Trollip unleashes a scathing attack on the DA, while economists sound the alarm over a faltering GNU and a vulnerable Rand. Meanwhile, ANC heavyweight Fikile Mbalula reaffirms unwavering support for Palestine.
ActionSA caucus leader, Athol Trollip, says the party will not support the African National Congress if their input continues not to yield fruit. Speaking to members of the media, earlier today, Trollip emphasised that the party is resolute in its resistance of a VAT increase or tax bracket creep in the 2025 budget. This after the National Assembly's adoption of the Fiscal Framework yesterday. The was adopted with recommendations - made by ActionSA - that Treasury must be given 30 days to come up with alternatives to tax hikes. Trollip says ANC can not make unilateral decisions, Sakina Kamwendo spoke to EFF Spokesperson, Sinawo Tambo and Analyst at the Centre for Risk Analysis, Carika Middelberg.

ActionSA last night put a spanner into South Africa's Government of National Unity works by breaking the impasse over the ANC proposed National Budget. The party's Parliamentary leader Athol Trollip spoke to BizNews this morning ahead of an early morning flight from Johannesburg.

We speak to the ‘historic' switch to the DA by the ANC Leader in Cape Town; Insights from the Fort Hare lawyers/investigators yesterday targeted for more State-applied abuse; Trump Tariff Day in the US; and Marine le Pen's shock ejection from the French Presidential where she was a shoo-in.

ActionSA has announced that it will not support the national budget as the April deadline for approval looms. This decision comes after a meeting between ActionSA and the ANC on Friday, where the ANC expressed confidence that a solution would be found. However, ActionSA, along with other parties like the EFF and DA, have made it clear that they won't vote for the budget due to its proposed increase in VAT. A sensationalistic press release from Action SA referencing Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen's vehicles was countered by the DA Leader this week. But in this interview, ActionSA parliamentary head Athol Trollip - himself an erstwhile DA Leader - argues that Steenhuisen's allegations were off-beam and that he avoided the real issue. Trollip also explains why those writing off ActionSA are on the wrong path. He spoke to BizNews editor Alec Hogg.
South Africa's Justice Minister Thembi Simelane is expected to appear before Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional development on Friday to be questioned over an alleged link to the VBS Bank scandal. In this interview with BizNews, ActionSA's Parliamentary caucus leader Athol Trollip lists all the “red flags” in her case - and says: “She needs to be held to account in a court of law. That's the only place that's going to have any credibility.” He also gives an update on in-depth discussions over the coalition future of Tshwane. He gives the assurance that although “the people of Tshwane have found it very difficult working with the DA”, ActionSA is “not going to be pushed into a motion of No Confidence (in DA Mayor Cillier Brink) because the ANC wants to do it today so that they can get their hands on Tshwane”. Trollip also renews his call for lifestyle audits to fight corruption - and gives examples of cases that make it imperative for “a couple of tall trees to be blown over”.
