We're in for a nostalgia trip as we welcome Adell Coleman and Anna Deshawn, creators of the "The Head Nod: Black Life at a PWI" podcast. Our spirited conversation kicks off with a lively exchange of unpopular food opinions, where Adell surprises us with her distaste for Chicago's iconic deep-dish pizza. As we reminisce about our shared love for the classic TV show Boy Meets World, we discuss everything from our favorite characters to the show's lack of diversity, highlighting how the character of Angela, the show's only Black character, was handled.Venturing further down memory lane, we highlight the iconic '90s TV shows that aired on ABC's TGIF block, sparking an engaging conversation on their wholesome characters and plots. From Full House to Boy Meets World, we discuss how these shows have shaped our TV preferences. We also dissect the evolution of characters in Boy Meets World, with Adell and Anna revealing their least favorite characters, instigating a stimulating debate on character development in the series. As we wrap up our conversation, we critique the portrayal of societal norms and diverse representation in Boy Meets World. From Cory and Topanga's early marriage to Angela's tokenism, we make a call for better representation and plot choices in the media. Join us for this stimulating discussion, which culminates in a lively chat about Adell and Anna's podcast.HighlightsRacism Allegations in Boy Meets WorldMario Lopez's Mexican IdentityNostalgia for 90s TV ShowsTopanga and Cory's RelationshipRecurring Neighbor Theme in 90s TVBlack Actors and Hair Care on SetDanielle Fishel's Maxim Magazine ShootChance the Rapper's "I Might Need Security" Follow Sequoiahttps://www.instagram.com/sequoiabholmeshttps://www.tiktok.com/@sequoiabholmeshttps://twitter.com/sequoiabholmes Follow BPLP Podhttps://www.instagram.com/bplppodhttps://twitter.com/bplppodhttps://www.tiktok.com/@bplppod Listen to The Head Nod: Black Life at a PWIhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-head-nod-black-life-at-a-pwi/id1699870161 Follow Adellhttps://www.instagram.com/iamadellcoleman/https://twitter.com/iamadellcoleman Follow Annahttps://www.instagram.com/annadeshawn/https://twitter.com/AnnaDeShawn

I grew up feeling like a ‘bad asian' – but connecting with asian-american activists who fight for racial equality and representation has transformed my belief on what it means to me to be asian-american. what role does power play in intimacy? this is a question i've found myself asking a lot in my own pleasure research. bdsm is an acronym that comes up a lot in conversations about power play and sex. it stands for Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, Sadochism and Masochism -- a lot of big and complicated words! but what does that actually mean? today i sit down with my dear friend and fellow aapi founder to talk all about bdsm and how her own experience has influenced her personal and professional lives. when i reunited with my sister friend, jalena, she asked me how i was feeling and if i was feeling safe as a fellow asian american woman walking around nyc. i was surprised because nobody has asked me that over the last few months, yet my answer was that i absolutely have been feeling nervous and uneasy with the continuous headlines about asian hate. in this episode we reflect on what's happening with the stop asian hate movement right now, and what conversations we believe should be further highlighted as we work towards a world where ANYONE can feel safe… Executive Producers: Nadya Okamoto, Adell Coleman, Jackie Garofano Senior Producer: Quinton Hill Producer: Kelsey Klein, Larry Shapiro, Kacey Lee and Maiqi Qin Distributor: DCP Entertainment Learn more about your ad choices. in this episode, ameya and i sit down to talk about porn, and more specifically, our porn preferences, for the first time ever. and yes, we're brutally honest about it. talking about sex is one thing, but talking about what turns you on and even what you watch to get turned on, is a whole other. i'm nervous to be sharing this episode, but i think these are important convos to have. in this episode, i sit down with my friend and fellow female founder, hayley caddes, to talk about her story from being in the troubled teen industry in high school, to now being an ivy-educated venture-backed founder of mental health app, chill pill. i met hayley last year when i slid into her twitter dm's, interested to learn more about what she was building with chill pill. from there we became fast friends, even going on double dates now with our baes, and it's been so inspiring to see how she's building her community and gen z focused app, chill pill. find out more at www.chillpill.app. Executive Producers: Nadya Okamoto, Adell Coleman, Jackie Garofano Senior Producer: Quinton Hill Producer: Kelsey Klein, Larry Shapiro, Kacey Lee and Maiqi Qin Distributor: DCP Entertainment Learn more about your ad choices. This is one of the most common questions i receive from commenters on social media, and also one of the hardest to answer. In this episode, I finally got to a point of being able to verbalize my answer, and also reflect on the emotions I feel about past instances where I've reported and often felt let down by the system... tw: sexual assault and abuse Executive Producers: Nadya Okamoto, Adell Coleman, Jackie Garofano Senior Producer: Quinton Hill Producer: Kelsey Klein, Larry Shapiro, Kacey Lee and Maiqi Qin Distributor: DCP Entertainment Learn more about your ad choices. Retired NYPD sergeant Valarie Carey joins today's bonus episode along with Adell Coleman, co-host and executive producer of the podcast Say Their Name, to talk about her sister Miriam Carey, who was shot by law enforcement 26 times when she drove into a restricted zone outside of the U.S. Capitol. Plus, co-hosts Molly Jong-Fast and Andy Levy talk about why Ted Cruz is full of crap about vaccines—no one is hugging him as much as he says they are—and listen to clips of Don Jr. defending his dad, whom he weirdly calls “Trump.” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
I don't know about you, but I've been feeling even more nervous walking around nyc as a young Asian American woman. Everyday i find myself having conversations with peers of mine trading notes about what pepper spray purchases to make, and trying to coordinate group self defense classes. Whether or not authorities will label recent killings of Asian women in NYC as racially motivated or not, I'm feeling deeply affected by the events especially with our shared identity.
