Defining Key Terms & Unsettling MythsWhat is the Caribbean? What it is not:Not simply “a group of islands surrounded by the Caribbean Sea.”That colonial compass would erase Belize, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. The Caribbean is not just geography — it's history, identity, and ideology.A Construct, An Invention:Ian Meeks and Norman Girvan argue the Caribbean is an invention, molded by the European gaze since 1492.The so-called “discovery” was really colonial construction — cultural erasure dressed as exploration. The Socio-Political Caribbean:Social scientists ask: In whose interest is society designed?Whose narrative dominates?Often, the Caribbean's story has been told through the lens of its colonizers — not its people.Economic Caribbean – A Dependent Capitalist Model:According to Neoliberalism (2021) and the "Washington Consensus", Caribbean economies were shaped to serve external interests.Ramesh Ramsaran: Structural Adjustment transferred power from local to global hands — a feature of life in the Global South. These are the legacies of debt, austerity, and manufactured dependency.Global South vs Global North:New language, same old hierarchies. The “Global South” replaces “Third World” — a more palatable term, but still denotes marginalization.2. A People in Paradox: Race, Identity & AgencyThe Problem of the Caribbean is the Problem of the Black and Brown PositionWherever Black or Brown bodies are found — so too is systemic exclusion. Not due to essence, but to constructed inferiority.Colonization as Psychological Violence:Fanon: Colonization turns man against himself.Du Bois: The Black soul peers through a veil, always asking: “Am I enough?”Morrison: We are told to strive toward whiteness — only to find we can never truly arrive.Depersonalization & Loss of Agency:Colonialism stripped humanity. The enslaved weren't just shackled in body — but in being. This leads to malady: acting against our own interests.Afrocentricity vs Eurocentricity:Afrocentricity: a way of seeing.Eurocentricity: the only way of seeing. The former offers liberation. The latter demands assimilation.Diaspora Realities:Caribbean immigrants are often seen as threats cloaked in exoticism — "two sharp teeth," as you wrote.Their potential is feared, their labor exploited.Kenneth Clark's “Dark Ghettoes”:Ghettoes aren't just places — they are conditions.Whether in Philly or Kingston, Harlem or Port of Spain, these spaces reflect economic colonization.Externally: Poor housing, crime, disease.Internally: Apathy, self-loathing, compensatory bravado.3. Postcolonialism – Not the End, But the EchoPostcolonial ≠ Post-ColonizationFanon in Black Skin, White Masks: Black and White locked in a tragic performance — each role scripted by Empire. In Wretched of the Earth: Freedom is radical; it requires rupture, not reform. The Paradox of Independence:Haiti and Cuba led revolutions — and were punished for their audacity.Independence does not equal inclusion.4. Depersonalization-Derealization Explained; Understanding This Hidden Trauma Response

Our brain and nervous systems are incredibly protective—they can shield us from overwhelming stimuli by shutting out sensations. This mechanism plays a central role in depersonalization and derealization (DPDR), causing you to feel detached and like you are observing yourself from a distance. While these dissociative states can offer short-term protection, chronic experiences can lead to further dysregulation as unprocessed emotions accumulate. In today's episode, Elisabeth and Jennifer dive into DPDR, explaining its impact on the brain and nervous system. They discuss why our senses become muted, its protective role, and how it shows up in those with childhood trauma. Elisabeth and Jennifer also share their personal experiences and how they found safety in their bodies to process their emotions. While our brain and body protect us from overwhelming sensations, the stored experience remains within us. The journey to healing involves convincing our brain and body that it's safe to reconnect with these feelings, building internal capacity to do so. Simply understanding DPDR isn't enough; we must communicate with our nervous system to reclaim our sense of self. If you've experienced depersonalization and derealization and are seeking healing insights, don't miss this episode! Topics discussed in this episode: What is depersonalization and derealization (DPDR)? Why are our senses muted, yet still active, during DPDR? The connection between CPTSD and DPDR The high levels of dysregulation that occur with DPDR Co-regulation versus nervous system disconnection How derealization and depersonalization function as adaptive strategies Why healing DPDR requires working directly with the nervous system What happens when you finally start feeling again after DPDR How to cultivate a sense of safety around your internal signals The vagus nerve's role in healing DPDR and practical techniques to activate it Get started training your nervous system with our FREE 2-week offer on the Brain Based Membership site: https://www.rewiretrial.com   Connect with us on social media: @trauma.rewired   Join the Trauma Rewired Facebook Group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/761101225132846   FREE 1 Year Supply of Vitamin D + 5 Travel Packs from Athletic Greens when you use my exclusive offer: https://www.drinkag1.com/rewired   This episode was produced by Podcast Boutique https://www.podcastboutique.com Trauma Rewired podcast  is intended to educate and inform but does not constitute medical, psychological or other professional advice or services. One of the perfect storms in the anxiety disorder world is the combination of existential related anxiety with the sensations/experiences of depersonalization and derealization. Unfortunately for many, this is a common combination and it can be so difficult to understand and address that it seemed an episode dedicated to this issue was in order. As you might expect, the overall message in this episode is that while this is a very scary combination that be difficult to accept without fighting or resisting, in the end having existentially based thoughts/fears alongside this common anxiety symptom (DP/DR) is safe. It really is OK - though difficult - to take an acceptance based approach in this situation too.The discussion touches on how anxiety can turn curiosity and wonder into dread, how an anxious mind will try very hard to answer un-answerable questions, and how DP/DR might seem to confirm the important/dangerous nature of existential thoughts and fears (but it really doesn't confirm anything except the fact that you are afraid and anxious). As usual, the guys share some of their own experience, add clinical experience and expertise, and sprinkle a dash of humor and a helping of kindness and understanding into the discussion. If you feel like DP/DR alongside existential anxiety is a deal breaker or show-stopper for you .... tune in. This one might be helpful.---Disordered Roundtables are here! In this episode of Nephilim Death Squad, we explore the hidden layers of The Catcher in the Rye with special guest William Ramsey. More than just a coming-of-age novel, this book has been linked to infamous assassins like Mark David Chapman, John Hinckley Jr., and Robert Bardo, raising questions about its deeper psychological and cultural impact. Ramsey delves into J.D. Salinger's intelligence background, the book's pervasive themes of hypnotism, depersonalization, and nihilism, and its possible connections to MKUltra mind control experiments. We examine how Catcher in the Rye may have been used as a psychological trigger, influencing individuals in ways far beyond literary appreciation. From Holden Caulfield's erratic thoughts to the novel's ties to Hollywood and subliminal messaging, this discussion uncovers unsettling aspects of a book widely distributed in public schools. Join us as we dissect the possibility of Catcher in the Rye as a tool of manipulation, exploring the blurred lines between fiction, psychological conditioning, and real-world events.FOLLOW WILLIAM RAMSEY:William Ramsey Investigates - Books, Documentaries, PodcastsJOIN THE PATREON FOR AD FREE EPISODES BEFORE THEY DROP AND BECOME PART OF THE GROWING COMMUNITY OF DANGEROUS RTRDs ON TELEGRAM:https://www.patreon.com/NephilimDeathSquadFIND US ON SOCIAL MEDIA:NEPHILIM DEATH SQUAD:Nephilim Death Squad | ALL LINKSNephilimDSquad@Gmail.comX Community: Nephilim WatchTOPLOBSTA:(@TopLobsta) / X(@TopLobsta) / InstagramTopLobsta.com / MerchRAVEN: (@DavidLCorbo) / X(@ravenofnds) / InstagramWEBSITES:Nephilim Death Squad | Merchnephilimdeathsquad.com OUR SPONSORS:15% OFFRife Technology – Real Rife TechnologyPROMO CODE : NEPHILIM FOR 10% OFFParasiteMovie.com - Parasite Cleanse and Detox – Parasite MoviePROMO CODE: NEPHILIM 10% OFFEmergency Survival Food, Seed, & Supplies | Heaven's Harvest – Heaven's Harvest StorePROMO CODE: NEPHILIM 5% OFFBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/nephilim-death-squad--6389018/support.

Depersonalization, a dissociative psychological syndrome, can be incredibly destabilising. It often takes years for sufferers to identify it. Characterised by altered self-perception, individuals may feel dead, detached, or anaesthetised. They might not recognize themselves in the mirror and struggle to distinguish between reality and a dream. According to Stanford University School of Medicine, this rare phenomenon affects only 2% of the global population. This unsettling experience leads to significant anguish, anxiety, and existential questions. How does depersonalization affect daily life? Is it troubling? Is stress or anxiety the main cause of depersonalization? What should you do if you experience these symptoms? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Eric elaborates on these elements of burnout, describing emotional exhaustion as a deep-seated fatigue that impacts life engagement, depersonalization as growing detachment and cynicism towards work, and diminished personal achievement as a sense of ineffectiveness despite efforts. He recounts personal struggles, including a divorce and other stressors that exacerbated his burnout. Eric discusses the importance of meaningful alone time to recharge, using his motorcycle trips as an example of finding mental clarity and rebalancing life. In this episode, we explore the emotional toll of burnout on healthcare professionals with Dr. Jessi Gold, a psychiatrist and Chief Wellness Officer at the University of Tennessee System. Burnout often manifests as depersonalization—a form of emotional detachment that shields clinicians from the relentless trauma they witness. Dr. Gold delves into how this protective mechanism can lead to emotional numbness, distancing healthcare workers from their patients and even themselves. We discuss the concept of alexithymia, where prolonged detachment causes clinicians to lose touch with their own emotions, making it challenging to process trauma or empathize with patients. Dr. Gold offers practical strategies for overcoming burnout, such as early intervention, therapy, setting emotional boundaries, and advocating for systemic change within healthcare institutions. Tune in to learn how reconnecting with the meaning behind their work can help clinicians rediscover a sense of purpose and resilience in their careers.

This week we are talking about depersonalization, derealization, otherwise known as dissociation. We will also discuss DID or dissociative identity disorder, how we can build our sense of self, if we can love therapy too much, and why we can feel awkward after disclosing our self injury. Finally, we will talk about whether or not we can be so damaged that no amount of therapy can help us. Ask Kati Anything ep.239 | Your mental health podcast, with Kati Morton, LMFT Audience questions: 1. I struggle with persistent depersonalisation and derealisation. I tried a lot of things over the years (therapy, different mindfulness practices, temperature play, full body shakes, yoga, meditation, being aware of my body etc.) and nothing is working. I know it gets worse when I am overwhelmed or tired or hungry, but it's nearly happening 24/7 even if I am happy and relaxed and on holidays for example. It doesn't make sense to me. Sometimes it gets really bad, I think when I also start panicking. Then I feel like I can't see properly and feel so far gone, that it feels super scary. I know dissociation is not scary and it's my body's way to protect me, but when it is so severe, it feels absolutely horrible. Do you have any tips for me? 01:14 2. I am a survivor of CSA and have CPTSD. I don't think I have DID however, why do I have different “voices” that come out at different times in ways I cannot control? My friends say I have 2 different “voices” one is higher pitched and small, and the other is deeper and more grown-up. Some things can for sure trigger it like feeling afraid or ashamed but it doesn't always trigger it. Sometimes I am... 17:26 3. How to build a sense of self when no sense (or only a weak sense) of self has ever existed. In this scenario there is no "rebuilding" of the self, because it never existed as a whole in the past. There's nothing to be rebuilt because it hasn't been built yet. Is there any relevant research that looks at outcomes for individuals who developed a sense of self for the very first time in adulthood... 21:57 4. I love therapy. I know it's supposed to be difficult and a lot of people are “scared” to work on themselves in therapy but I absolutely love it. My therapist told me I am very analytical and symptom focused, I constantly analyze every small behavior about myself and I can't seem to stop. I constantly need to make sense of everything. I also love the attention that she gives me and I love that she cares about me. I wish I could see her all day every day. Is it normal to love therapy this much? 25:41 5. I just recently told a friend about my self-harming and now I feel really awkward. I wanted to know, why do I feel so embarrassed when near this friend now? 30:59 6. I hope this makes sense to you. It is something I've been wondering about. Is it possible to be so severely damaged by your past that no matter how much therapy you got that you never really heal? Because after all the therapy I got I still have so many trigger points. Is it because I've been traumatized over and over? Is it because of all sorts of abuse over and over? Am I not supposed to get over it by now? 33:30 #podcast #psychology #katimorton PUBLISHED BOOKS Traumatized https://geni.us/Bfak0j Are u ok? https://geni.us/sva4iUY ONLINE THERAPY While I do not currently offer online therapy, BetterHelp can connect you with a licensed, online therapist: https://betterhelp.com/kati (enjoy 10% off your first month) SOCIAL YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/katimorton X https://twitter.com/KatiMorton TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@katimortonInstagram https://www.instagram.com/katimorton Patreon https://www.katimorton.com/kati-morton-patreon/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/katimorton1/ Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/katimorton1/ PARTNERSHIPS Linnea Toney linnea@underscoretalent.com --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/askkatianything/support

I wanted her to know I'm a person, not just a name on a paper..."   These are the words of Sharon Holmes, a breast cancer survivor who initially had a "normal" mammogram, but three months later discovered she had stage II breast cancer.  How is this possible?  Unfortunately, Sharon was not alone.Welcome to Episode 33 where we discuss the unbelievable case of Rachel Rapraeger, a mammography technician whose decisions and actions would negatively impact over 1000 women, including two women who likely died because their breast cancer wasn't caught soon enough.  Because Rachel saw the women who entrusted her with their care as a number, or a backlog of cases, rather than human beings, she didn't "fully consider the consequences" of her decisions and actions.  Depersonalization can kill and unfortunately, justice wasn't served for Rachel's Victims.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Real Nurses, Real Talk website: https://www.purposedrivenpx.com/real-nurses-real-talk-podcastInterest form to tell your story: https://form.jotform.com/230685346709060Be sure to connect with us on Instagram:@realnurses_pcSend questions, topic ideas, and/or comments to realnursespc@gmail.com.

“Fake it til you make it, “ Mark advised soon after rescuing me from the Wash DC human trafficking swamp. “Predators, abusers, and puppet-tears know exactly what signs of heightened suggestibility to look for. CIA and FBI are trained to look for those specific traits. Hell, even cult leaders are savvy to signs of heightened suggestibility resultant from abuse these ‘daze' so be aware of the signs they are looking for and fake it til you make it.”I do not know how I could have survived those first months and even years of healing from MK Ultra mind control had I not heeded Mark's wise advice. Today I see numerous survivors ignorantly displaying neon signs of abuse and ultimately being triggered back into abuse bases and under mind control. It is easy for survivors to recognize other survivors, telepathically, energetically and through physical signs. Those of us who have healed from within our selves to reclaim self control and inner peace need to alert other survivors to their signs of vulnerability so they, too, can ‘fake it til they make it'.Depersonalization results from extreme dissociation to the point victims do not consciously see themselves in a mirror. This results in displays of extreme appearance in a subconscious effort to assert pleas for help that victims struggling to become survivors cannot think to voice. Depersonalization can become so extreme from unspeakable trauma that victims lose their ability to feel or register pain anymore. Often this is displayed in excessive piercings and tattoos in sensitive areas. Subconscious displays of abuse can also double as asserted effort to offend or repel others when in fact it also invites more abuse from predators looking for those signs. My experience under MK Ultra mind control on a White House/Pentagon level included control of my appearance. How I walked, when I talked, and how I was dressed were all controlled through programming. I deprogrammed the program first, writing out detailed instruction of my programmers. I even heard their voices in my head saying, “walk this way” until I wrote it out. By activating the logic part of my brain through moving a pen, neuron pathways in my brain re-opened, freeing compartmentalized memory and allowing for my own natural physical expression of walking. My gait changed once and for all, never reverting back to programmed mannerisms. Mannerisms that are recognizable even in children include a fixed gaze on genital areas. This is often a defense mechanism of ‘sizing up' abuse that also reflects heightened sexuality obsession. In a silent plea for help, the fixed gaze may also be a pleading look at passerbys, into cars, or staring at the ground avoiding eye contact. Be mindful of your gaze, while understanding extended gaze without blinking indicates dissociation and ultimately vulnerability.Stun guns were commonly used for mind control back when I endured MK Ultra programming. Resultant stun gun electric prod ‘burns' were strategically left as indicators on strategic parts of my body as a signifier to those in the know what I was programmed to do. These stun gun burns turned into ‘beauty mark' moles signifying message delivery, oral sex, and more. I had those moles removed since they were a trigger to me and signifier to abusers. I did not have visible rose or monarch tattoos as many other MK Ultra victims did since my decorative signifiers were usually displayed in jewelry, which ultimately was easy to remove!Mark explained extreme hair design and color are reflective of depersonalization and heightened suggestibility, akin to a target painted on the highly suggestible. Additionally, severity of pulling back hair like a ninja in a desperate display of clearing 44x acuity peripheral vision as a subconscious defense mechanism can also signify extreme abuse.

Most Christians worship a binity: Father and Son, and that's when their binity isn't merely Jesus and the Bible! The Holy Spirit routinely gets boxed up, put away, and ignored. Functionally, He is the Cinderella of the Trinity: only brought out on special occasions, like a baptismal service: "In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." But the Scriptures, Old and New, have much to teach us about the third person of the Trinity. I expore how the New Testament builds upon but then expands what the Old Testament revealed about the Spirit. I also work through 5 different ways the Church (and culture) box up the Holy Spirit, keep him on the back shelf. Let's prayerfully welcome the dynamic, creative, and beautiful work of God's Holy Spirit into our lives!

Hello friends! In Episode 377, we tackle two profound listener questions that shed light on unique mental health and relationship challenges. Our first discussion revolves around a listener gearing up for couples therapy. They share their apprehension about conveying years of experiences within the confines of therapy sessions. We explore strategies for effective communication, the importance of preparation, and utilizing therapy as a starting point rather than a complete solution. The conversation also touches on the usefulness of additional resources like therapy workbooks and individual therapy in enhancing the couples therapy experience. The second question comes from a 23-year-old male experiencing derealization, depersonalization, and occasional panic attacks. These symptoms make him feel detached from his environment and himself, as if living in an unreal world. We dive into understanding these phenomena, identifying possible triggers, and discussing various coping methods.
