Did it really happen: the Resurrection of Jesus? Mike Licona vs Larry Shapiro hosted by Andy Kind

Unbelievable?

The question of the historicity of Jesus' resurrection has been repeatedly investigated, probed, and discussed. This week on Unbelievable we will add to the debate by asking ‘Did it really happen – the Resurrection of Jesus?' dissecting the narratives of Jesus' death and Resurrection. We've got two eminent scholars – who are good friends but with diametrically opposed beliefs on the authenticity of this pivotal event that forms the basis for the Christian worldview.    Dr. Mike Licona, a New Testament scholar, an expert on the intricate details of events surrounding the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ in first century Palestine, examines their historical reliability.  Dr. Larry Shapiro a sceptic on such matters, challenges these assertions and offers alternative explanations that he believes are more plausible.   The show also tackles reconciling discrepancies in the Resurrection accounts - does that strengthen or weaken the arguments that these events happened?    And even if the historical reliability of ancient texts is established, can we apply these texts to 21st century life from a philosophical perspective? Dr. Mike Licona presents the evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus. If the Resurrection happened, and Jesus conquered death for all who put their trust in Him it's a question we cannot not ignore.   Prof. Larry Shapiro Lawrence Shapiro is the Berent Enç Professor of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin — Madison. That make Dr. Shapiro to re-think about his contributions to his community, so he got his license back, trained in military trauma, and started again as a psychologist in 2014. Last year he attended the annual Boston Trauma Conference and heard for the first time about the use of psychedelic medicines for treatment of trauma. So after a 150 hour certification program at Integrative Psychiatry Institute he became certified in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy which now is part of his current practice. But it is not clear as to why only some people who experience a traumatic event develop PTSD. Some people say it's a social construct but in the largest and most diverse genetic study of PTSD to date, scientists from University of California San Diego School of Medicine and more than 130 additional institutions participating in the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium found that PTSD has a strong genetic component similar to other psychiatric disorders. Genetics seem to accounts for between 5 and 20 percent of the variability in PTSD risk following a traumatic event. I grew up feeling like a ‘bad asian' – but connecting with asian-american activists who fight for racial equality and representation has transformed my belief on what it means to me to be asian-american. Jeannie Jay Park had her own complicated journey with her asian-american identity, which ultimately led her from modeling to activism and organizing, which we get into in today's conversation. Jeannie takes us back to her childhood where she first witnessed her korean heritage interacting with whiteness, the internalized racism that manifested in her life, and how she confronted that racism, began to heal the trauma, and uses it to push forward in her activism.   Follow along with Jeannie on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/jeanniejaypark/?hl=en Executive Producers: Nadya Okamoto, Adell Coleman, Brittany Temple Senior Producer: Quinton Hill Producer: Kelsey Klein, Larry Shapiro, Kacey Lee and Maiqi Qin Distributor: DCP Entertainment Learn more about your ad choices. On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (04/01/22), Hank discusses a book titled The Miracle Myth: Why Belief in the Resurrection and the Supernatural Is Unjustified by Larry Shapiro. In the book, Shapiro paints a portrait of Christ that rules out the supernatural. His pseudo-historical information is garnered from Bart Ehrman and Richard Carrier, a fringe scholar who believes the historical Christ never existed. Shapiro ignores the apostle Paul and the creed found in 1 Corinthians chapter 15, which is early and free from legendary contamination. Here we have a man who wins the “Jesus Game,” but loses the week that changed the world.Hank also answers the following questions:What are your thoughts on Rahab's lie? The narrative seems to indicate that she wins favor with the Lord. When people die, are they really in the presence of the Lord? What happened to Lazarus? What are your thoughts on Sozo prayer ministry? Can you clarify the issue of lying? Was Jacob right to deceive Isaac into giving him the birthright? Will there be time in eternity, or will we always be in the present?
