The Big Mates discuss bouncers, poets, rappers, and Five Minutes With Arctic Monkeys. Adam, Steve, and Lucas properly begin their deep-dive exploration of Arctic Monkeys by talking about the people that make up the band, the various musical influences they brought with them, the city they grew up in, and the formation of the band itself. They discuss the early days of the band, their gigs and demo recordings, their songs being shared on the internet, and the first official Arctic Monkeys release, Five Minutes With Arctic Monkeys, featuring analysis of both tracks! It's and exciting first step in this career-long deep-dive from three differing perspectives on music, from being deeply into music and analysis, to not caring for art or critique, and everything in between! What's the difference between guitar and drums? Would you go back to a club to get your coat? Will we become one of the world's biggest rock bands in the next 4 years? Find out on this episode of What Is Music? Our next episode is out next week, Monday June 9th, and we'll begin the deep-dive into the band's debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.
Playliste: Arctic Monkeys - Brianstorm Arctic Monkeys - I bet you look good on the dancefloor Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent adolescent Arctic Monkeys - Suck it and see Arctic Monkeys - The car Arctic Monkeys - A certain romance

This week, we had the pleasure of speaking with Andy Nicholson of Nicholson Consulting about the current atmosphere and conditions of agriculture, specifically in the west central portion of Indiana. Andy also gives a good, basic rendering of what crops are going through at this point in their growing/producing phase. Thanks for listening!

Today we spoke to Andy Nicholson aka "overthehilldunker" - lover of all things dunk-related in the game of basketball, and founder of @thedunkcamp. Andy talks about his passion for basketball and his obsession for dunking in particular. It's fun hearing Andy talk about who he admires in the world of dunking and why. Listen to Andy talk about his prep routine, conditioning and the mindset needed to perform at the highest level that he physically can. There was so much to take away from this episode from key themes such mindset, passion and the importance of preparation and routine. We kept this episode for a few weeks as wanted it for March Madness. Listen to this as a break from all the noise around the coronavirus pandemic. Nice energy here for you devoted and new listeners.
You may not know the name but you will definitely know the face. Chris McClure shot to global fame as the cover star of the Arctic Monkeys' record-breaking debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' back in 2006. Now a filmmaker, he talks to us about his latest documentary, focused on alcoholism in the music industry. The film features his own personal story alongside those of other musicians and industry figures and is well worth a watch - click here to see it: https://bit.ly/2WhQNWu (https://t.co/fX3oGyWeFE?amp=1) Chris also recounts the highs of watching his Monkey mates become global stars and the lows of his best mate Andy Nicholson leaving the band. He also regales us with the best anecdote Rick has ever heard in his 16 years working as a journalist, involving Noel Gallagher, Peter Kay and some stolen sundries. Elsewhere on the episode, Rick and Sarah debate whether it's shameful that they're both secretly fans of Simply Red, how the Brit Awards could have got it so wrong again with their 2020 shake-up and whether Graham Coxon's new tune is any good. Episode 53: Via Hillsborough, Please (ft Andy Nicholson)Starting with three Sheffield kids who had one guitar between them, Arctic Monkeys rise to becoming the most culturally significant British band of their era was not just unlikely but also uniquely fascinating. Having played as bassist in the creation of the 2006 classic 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not', which remains the fastest selling debut album in UK history, Andy Nicholson joins Episode 53 of The Michael Anthony Show in an open and insightful appearance. Nicholson, who is back making music under the sobriquet 'Goldteeth', sheds light on the origins of the rock band which he formed with childhood friends Alex Turner and Matt Helders and for the first time goes into detail regarding his abrupt departure from the four piece just before the release of their iconic second album, 'Favourite Worst Nightmare'.The diehard Sheffield United Fan discusses regrets, mental health, fame, the state of modern music and his hopes for the future in a discussion that will grip any music lover. As this week is all about words and rhythm we spoke to local rapper MC Matic Mouth. As a rapper, he’s particularly sensitive to the rhythm contained in words and uses this to generate ideas for songs. Matic is a member of Clubs & Spades, a hip hop outfit comprising of fellow MC, Shinobi, and producers Manakin and Andy Nicholson (former Arctic Monkeys bassist). Proudly rapping about their Sheffield hometown and in their native accents, Clubs and Spades have cultivated their own strong local identity whilst simultaneously opening stages for international artists such as Public Enemy, Pharoahe Monch and Mash Out Posse. Their two albums are available on Spotify.
