“Australia's silence is being heard” says Australia's former Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg. A man with a deep-rooted connection to his Jewish heritage and strong support for Israel. Raised in a Jewish family, Frydenberg has been vocal about his commitment to Jewish causes and has championed close Australia-Israel relations throughout his career. Known for his leadership as Australia's Treasurer, Frydenberg has consistently advocated for policies that foster mutual support and collaboration between Israel and Australia, underscoring his dedication to both his heritage and his vision of a secure, united global community. In this conversation, Eylon and Josh tackle the role of Israel and the diaspora in fighting for Israel's right to sovereignty and self-defense and the need for allies the world over to understand that they play a pivotal role in defending democratic, liberal principles when they stand up for Israel.Co-Creator and Host - Eylon LevyCo-Creator and Creative Director - Guy RossExecutive Producer - Asher Westropp-EvansEditor/Assistant Director - Benny GoldmanStay up to date at:https://www.stateofanationpodcast.com/X: https://twitter.com/stateofapodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/stateofapod/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... There's hopes that the US will step in soon to de-escalate Middle East tensions. Iran has launched nearly 200 missiles at Israel, with most being intercepted. Israel is promising consequences while continuing airstrikes - and yesterday, forces invaded Lebanon. The Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council says strong intervention is the only way to end the cycle. Policy analyst Bren Carlill says Iran's weak military could be swiftly subdued. "Were the US to send a couple of missiles at, say, an Iranian drone-making factory or an Iranian missile factory - I think Iran would get the message and very quickly realise it needs to step back." Elana is the CEO of The Cannigma, an evidence-based cannabis education platform. Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Elana speaks about her experiences with cannabis and how she came to meld her life's work into The Cannigma, and how Israel is bustling in the field of cannabis research. Then we move to the topic of growing up with a belief system. Three of Elana's grandparents were survivors of the holocaust and she describes growing up in Australia with the same Jewish traditions her grandparents held to while in concentration camps. She also discusses how her belief system has changed and how she views the world now. Does the supernatural exist? Is this universe and all life in it the result of a series of accidents, or is there an intelligent designer behind it? We have a good time discussing all of this and more!!!
On the show this Wednesday, we welcome Ehud Yaari visiting expert at the Australia Israel & Jewish Affairs Council and one of Israel's leading public affairs commentators. This episode will focus on the recently sworn in Bennett–Lapid Israeli Government, the Biden Administration's actions in the Middle East six months on from his inauguration, as well as a geopolitical overview of the region. Israel's status as the only liberal, democratic nation amidst a vast expanse of autocratic and illiberal states is remarkable. So, after Benjamin Netanyahu's 12 years as Prime Minister, what will the new coalition government bring? Can they really hold together with such a slim majority? and how will geopolitical pressures including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action impact the State? Ehud Yaari a Middle East commentator for Israeli television since 1975 and won awards for his coverage of the peace process with Egypt, the Lebanon War, and the First Gulf War. Yaari's articles have appeared in respected newspapers and journals such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, and Atlantic Monthly.

Relations between Australia and Israel remain tense after the Foreign Minister Bob Carr called in Israel’s ambassador on Tuesday, to convey strong concern over plans to expand settlements on Palestinian land. Carr told the ambassador that building new settlements threatens the viability of a two-state solution. Israel announced the plan just a day after the historic vote to give Palestinians observer status at the UN. In that vote, Australia abstained, which was viewed as a shift away from always supporting Israel on the international stage. So why is the Gillard government taking a different approach to Israel and will it have any lasting impact? 2SER’s Mark Robinson spoke with journalist and author Antony Loewenstein.
