It's hard to see our deficiencies and short-comings. Sometimes we never see them until we open our mouths and encounter others. Yet how we treat one another when our sins are exposed can make the difference between redemption and alienation. Despite James and John's request, Jesus hears them, instructs them, and providentially provides an example through Bartimeaus' healing of what true spiritual sight looks like which also pleases him. Join us this Sunday as we look inward at ourselves upward to Christ and forward to his will and future world of spiritual sight.

Up To Jerusalem - Teaching 2 Scripture - Matthew 20:29-34, Mark 10:46-52, Luke 18:35-43, Luke 19:1-9 “Up to Jerusalem” are words used by several of the Gospel authors - this phrase is teleological, meaning it has evidence of design, purpose, and planning of the Heavenly Father.  And it shows the heart of Jesus as He steadfastly walks the route that leads to Jerusalem where He knows the coming events of betrayal suffering, crucifixion, and paying the full penalty for our sins against the Father.  Jesus was willing to take on all the filth of the human race. The feeling of many at the time of Jesus was that now that the Messiah is here - now everything will fall into place and the kingdom of God will  - after waiting and waiting centuries - finally be established on earth.   As a precursor to our story today, Pastor shares the controversy surrounding Jericho and the controversy of Jesus' appearance in Jericho along with a look at the geography and topography of Jericho. He shares archeological discoveries and information on the ancient city of Jericho, plus archeological evidence indicating the truth of scriptures and the timeline of the scriptures. The evidence is compelling. Pastor addresses the “discrepancies” in the verses we will explore today: Matthew 20:29-34 - two blind men and Jesus leaving Jericho Mark 10:46-52 - one blind man begging and Jesus leaving Jericho Luke 18:35-43 - one blind man begging and Jesus approaching Jericho. What accounts for the differences? Two blind men vs 1 one man and Jesus leaving Jericho vs approaching Jericho. Pastor poses an interesting answer that shows all three accounts to be true. Meaning there was 1 man, there was 2 men, Jesus was leaving and He was approaching! There is evidence pointing to TWO cities of Jericho during the New Testament times. One a rebuilding of the Old Testament Jericho and a thriving newly built Jericho. Pastor shares some great insights on this. One city was just a bit south and west of the other. If Jesus was leaving the older Jericho location He would have then been entering the newer, modern, bustling New Testament Jericho location. The authors were describing the story from different vantage points. Same story, just written from differing frames of reference.  Also, Mark and Matthew wrote for the Jewish audience and would have been more inclined to speak of ancient Jericho, whereas Luke's audience was gentile so Luke would probably focus on the newer more busy and active newer Jericho. How do we reconcile 1 or two blind men? As we read the story we see one is very vocal. So much so that the crowds try to shush him. Matthew noticed both men, but Mark and Luke noticed the vocal one, the one who kept calling to Jesus and would not stop. Mark 10:46-52: The outspoken one's name is Bartimaeus and he calls out to Jesus, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.” Bartimaeus' description of Jesus as the “Son of David” is a way for Bartimaeus to express that he understands who Jesus is, the Messiah. While Bartimaeus was physically blind, he had great spiritual sight in order to address Jesus in the way he did.  He could ”see” very clearly who Jesus was. When Jesus answers him, Bartimaeus tosses aside his cloak - a most valuable possession - and jumps to his feet going  to Jesus. “What do you want Me to do for you?” Jesus asks. “Rabbi, I want to see!” Bartimaeus answers. Jesus responds, “Go! Your faith has healed you!” And immediately Bartimaeus receives his sight and follows Jesus “Up to Jerusalem.” This is not simply an historical description of something that took place - it is a declaration that shows us that by faith we too are changed - forever changed - just like Bartimeaus.  Following the healing of Bartimaeus,,“Up to Jerusalem” continues in Luke 19:1-9. Jesus enters the newest Jericho and there he meets Zaccheaus, singles him out and goes to his house. Jesus continues to show us that He is concerned about us individually! Zaccheaus, like Bartimaeus, is transformed. Zaccheaus tells Jesus he will give away 1/2 of all his possessions and payback 4-fold anyone he cheated.  Zacchaeus is a transformed man because he met the Transformer, Jesus the Messiah.  Today's teaching ends with Jesus saying to Zacchaeus, “Today, Salvation has come to this house, for the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Salvation had indeed come! And that Salvation come to us, too, for Salvation is found is none other than Jesus.  Up to Jerusalem continues in Luke 19:11 where we read many in the crowd were thinking that the Kingdom of God was going to appear suddenly.  But Jesus knows the road to Victory is paved with His blood, and the road to the kingdom is a road of sacrifice.   Join us next time for the parable of the 10 minas - another controversial story! "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me...Son of David, have pity on me." This is what Bartimeaus calls out to Jesus. Fr. Jim reminds us that Bartimeaus is one of the most important figures in the Gospel because he recognizes Jesus as the one who saves, even before the disciples do.from Mark 10:46-52As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd,Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth,he began to cry out and say,"Jesus, son of David, have pity on me."And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more,"Son of David, have pity on me."Jesus stopped and said, "Call him."So they called the blind man, saying to him,"Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you."Read the full scripture passage: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/102724.cfmHeart to Heart Catholic Media MinistryEvangelize Seekers. In this Bible Story, Jeremiah witnesses the downfall of Judah. King Nebuchadnezzar uses the Chaldean army to lay waste to all of Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of people are taken captive, and the remaining rulers of Judah are beheaded and trampled. Jeremiah, however, is spared from the Babylonians, and is given a choice to go to Babylon and live comfortably, or remain with his people. This story is inspired by 2 Chronicles 36:15-21 & 2 Kings 25:3-21 & Jeremiah 32, 33, 38, 39, 40:1-6, 52. But this was about more than relieving his uncle of a burden, it was God's way of showing the people what He would do for them. So Jeremiah continued to preach the Word of God to the people and he continued to receive beatings from them. One day, he was summoned by King Zedekiah to give him the truth of the situation and though he spoke honestly to the King, he did not follow Jeremiah's advice. Yet even as the gates of the courthouse were being broken down, God protected Jeremiah and gave him mercy.Hear the Bible come to life as Pastor Jack Graham leads you through the official BibleinaYear.com podcast. In the Bible, many came to Jesus for healing. And today, we still need Jesus' healing in our lives – physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. What can we learn from the biblical stories of those who were healed that we can put into practice in our lives? Julie Jenkins explores this question in today's Walking in the Word as, together, we study Matthew 9:27-31 and 20:29-34, Mark 10:46-52, and Luke 18:35-43. *********** TRANSCRIPT As we walk through the Word together, we are currently studying the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John chronologically. Today's episode is bit different as I want to focus on Jesus' healing in the lives of those who were His physical contemporaries when he walked this earth as fully man. Many people need healing in their lives – whether that be physically, spiritually, mentally, or emotionally. In fact, we ALL need healing at some point, and we all often have many people on our prayer list who need healing. As I read through the scripture for today, it was so clear that through His many healings, Jesus gave us a blueprint for how WE can approach and receive God's healing touch in our lives today. As we uncover this “guide,” we will be studying Matthew 9:27-31 and 20:29-34, Mark 10:46-52, and Luke 18:35:43. Before we begin, let's pray… Dear Most Holy God – you are Jehovah Rapha – the God who heals all our diseases. God, you knit us together in our mother's womb, knowing what each day of our lives held in store. You knew our ups and downs, our joys and trials to come. God, we thank you that you not only prepared us for each event but that you continually walk with us as we journey. You tell us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made – and God, we believe you! Teach us today, and help us remember this teaching as we walk through any valley craving your healing touch. If you have been with us for our recent episodes of this podcast, you will recall that we have learned of God's sovereignty through Jesus' control over nature, demons, disease, and even death. And yes, God is sovereign, but that means far more than we can even imagine as we walk this earth. We are each but a speck, a grain of sand in all of eternity, and we serve a God who is in control of it all! But not only is God sovereign beyond our imaginations, He is also personal beyond our imaginations. The God of the universe and all creation cares enough about you to number the hairs on your head! As we read about Jesus' healing the multitudes in the Bible we should certainly be in awe, but we should also take it personally. Because just as Jesus saw each individual in the Bible and provided exactly what he or she needed, He also sees and provides for each of us individually. And while he heals and provides for us, His reasoning for this care goes far beyond the fact that He wants us to be comfortable in this life. Jesus healed many as He walked on this earth and made certain that the stories were recorded knowing that His actions would point many – you and me included – to the greatness of God. You see…God, who works all things together for the good of those who love Him, orchestrates everything perfectly so that we will end up in His arms for eternity. Our perfect God is able to use pain, illness, and strife to complete His perfect plan. So what does He want US to do? Our natural inclination when we are sick is to want to get better. And as Christians, our hearts yearn for the comfort, peace, and healing for those we see suffering. How can we follow God's blueprint for us as we walk through difficult times in need of His healing touch? Let's begin with Luke 18:35-37 from the New Living Translation… 35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind beggar was sitting beside the road. 36 When he heard the noise of a crowd going past, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him that Jesus the Nazarene[a] was going by. Did you notice that the man who was in need of healing and was hanging out on the side of the road couldn't even see Jesus passing by? And yet, he was acutely aware that something was out of the ordinary. The first point is that God wants to be aware of His presence. If you are in need of healing, comfort, provision, guidance, or the loving touch of God, the first thing you must do is be aware that God is always with you. After Jesus' death and resurrection, He ascended into heaven. Many were grief-stricken to see Him go, but Jesus forewarned of His departure and taught that it was not without purpose, for when He left, He would leave behind the Holy Spirit – fully God – who would come to indwell all those who follow Christ. As Jesus walked this earth, the crowds flocked to Him – they dug through roofs and pushed through crowds to be near Him. All you and I have to do is invite Him into our hearts – and then recognize His presence. If you have already prayed for Jesus to be in your life, you can trust that His presence is always with you – you simply need to be aware of Him. If you haven't yet accepted Jesus into your life, it is as simple as breathing a prayer of invitation…”Jesus…I give my life to you…and I ask you to come into my heart.” That's it! In order to receive Jesus' healing, we must invite Him in, and then we have the privilege of being aware of His presence.   Step two, after being aware of Jesus' presence, we must ask for His healing… Matthew tells us of two blind men shouting to Jesus as recorded in Matthew 20:32-33… 32 When Jesus heard them, he stopped and called, “What do you want me to do for you?” 33 “Lord,” they said, “we want to see!” Not only does Jesus want us to recognize His presence, He wants us to recognize His power. God wants us to name our need, and come to Him in humility, trusting in His power. See, when we pray for our own healing or the healing of someone else, and God heals, we get to be a part of the miracle! And we then have a testimony! Through our prayer and God's response, we are given a story to share with others to point THEM to God! If you are seeking God's healing power, remember His constant presence, and ask for His healing.   When you do this, however, scripture warns that the world will come against you…and God teaches us Point #3 to put ourselves in a posture for receiving God's healing – Stand strong against the world. Mark gives us this teaching when he tells the story of blind Bartimeaus who called out for healing and was greeted with an unfriendly crowd…Mark 10:48 in the NIV records… 48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Can I just say – Go Bartimeaus! As followers of Christ, we can be assured that the world WILL come against us when we reach for God. Because what people don't understand, they write off as “weird.” But as Christ-followers, we can stand on the fact that God is with us and we can go to Him requesting healing despite what the world says, thinks, or does. The amazing thing is that as the world sees God working in tandem with your prayers, others WILL come to you and ask you to cry out for THEM. When that happens, do it! Because Jesus point in healing is always to point ALL to God.   Thankfully, even when the world comes against us, we don't have to stand alone…which leads us to point 4 – When we seek God's healing, we must recognize His presence, ask Him for that which we seek, tune out the nay-sayers of the world, and allow other Christians to hold us up. Just after Bartimeaus was chastised by some, Mark continues in verse 49… 49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you.” We are all put on this earth together to support each other and lead each other to Jesus. We have the privilege and joy of standing together! If you do not have a prayer group in your life – I would encourage you to join one. It is an honor and privilege to seek God's healing on behalf of others, and it is a gift to have others lift us up. If you don't have a prayer group, reach out to us at prayer@womenworldleaders.com so we can connect you. Or, spend time daily on our prayer wall at www.womenworldleaders.com.   The fifth step in receiving God's healing to believe that God can heal! Matthew records a conversation that Jesus had before healing two men…Matthew 9:28-30 from the New Living Translation… 28 They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can make you see?” “Yes, Lord,” they told him, “we do.” 29 Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.” 30 Then their eyes were opened, and they could see!  To be healed by God, we must be aware of His presence, ask for His healing, tune out the world while relishing in the support of other Christians, and we must BELIEVE THAT GOD CAN HEAL US. Remember…Jesus' purpose in healing is to point all to God the Father. Our belief, in this lifetime, generally grows bit by bit. God understands that we sometimes doubt, but He will take that belief we do have, and grow it by His faithfulness to us. One prayer I pray often is “Lord, help my unbelief.” And do you know what? He always does! Sometimes I have to be patient, and sometimes His answer comes in unexpected ways. Sometimes God will grow my belief by putting me through the whole process again… by giving me a need that only He can fill … perhaps a healing that can only be accomplished by Him … reminding me to be aware of His presence, to go to Him with my request, to tune out the world, to rely on other Christians and prayer partners, and to believe that He can meet my need. As you are healed in this life – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually – remember there is a final step… Luke 18:43 from The Passion Translation tells of the aftermath of a blind man who regained his sight… Instantly he could see again. His eyes popped opened, and he saw Jesus. He shouted loud praises to God and he followed Jesus. And when the crowd saw what happened, they too erupted with shouts of praise to God. What a beautiful picture that is! We will all need healing…and God WILL heal us if we go to Him. Because He loves us SO much! We may not completely understand the healing process, but we CAN trust it. Sometimes, it will seem like the cancer or another disease has won as it takes the life of our loved one. But we can trust that God always wins…because there is an eternity beyond this life where we, as lovers of God, will rest forever in His presence. And THAT is ultimate healing. THAT, from the beginning, was Jesus' whole point in healing the blind, the sick, and the lame. So we must never forget that after each healing, big or small, we are to give God the glory – we are given permission to erupt with shouts of praise to our God who is always present, who wants us to come to Him with our needs, who guards us from the nay-sayers of the world and surrounds us with those who will lift us up into his presence, and who gives us reason after reason to believe Him. We CAN believe for healing! We can stake our entire lives on the fact that our God will never leave us nor forsake us, and who, if we let Him, will usher us into an eternity where healing will never need to take place again. Let's pray! Dear Most gracious and loving God! We thank you and praise you! We give you all the glory, knowing that you WILL heal us, right into eternity. Thank you for continually guiding us, even when that guidance hurts, thank you for giving us exactly what we need in this life that we may be a beacon of light for all, pointing the way to you. As your followers, that is our ultimate goal, because we know that it is your ultimate goal. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

(Natalia Terfa) Today we encounter blind Bartimeaus on the side of the road, and he begs Jesus to heal him. He begs. This is an uncomfortable thing for us to witness, and even more for us to emulate. But when he comes face to face with Jesus, he is asked a question that Jesus has been asking a lot lately. Let's look closer at this question and his response.  Scripture: Mark 10: 46-52  Song: Close My Eyes by Tape Machines Support our podcast here Watch the Livestream Follow us on Instagram Visit our Website

"Jesus, son of David, have pity on me...Son of David, have pity on me." This is what Bartimeaus calls out to Jesus. Fr. Jim reminds us that Bartimeaus is one of the most important figures in the Gospel because he recognizes Jesus as the one who saves, even before the disciples do.Mark 10:46-52As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd,Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth,he began to cry out and say,"Jesus, son of David, have pity on me."And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more,"Son of David, have pity on me."Jesus stopped and said, "Call him."So they called the blind man, saying to him,"Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you."He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sightand followed him on the way.Gospel Study: Fr. Our text tonight is the familiar story of Jesus’ encounter with blind Bartimaeus. Although he did not have his sight, Bartimaeus’ faith was intact. He was not in an alleyway having a pity party or in a bar drinking his sorrows away. Bartimaeus was by the highway trying to find help. On that day, Bartimaeus heard Jesus passing by, and began to call out. First, he used his ears, and now he begins to use his mouth. Jesus hears Bartimaeus calling and asks to see him. Now Bartimeaus uses his feet to put his faith into action. Jesus asks what he needed, and again Bartimeaus uses his mouth to make his request. He did not have his sight, but Bartimaeus used what he had to ask Jesus for what he needed. And Jesus responded.

We may not be able to gather, but we can rejoice together. Join us as we celebrate the gospel of Jesus Christ; the King who invites the most ruined into his Kingdom. In today's message, we meet one of the saddest characters in all the Bible and watch as he's gloriously healed and called to follow Jesus. All who follow after Jesus are called to walk the Calvary Road; despite our every desire, suffering is unavoidable. But as Bartimeaus shows us, though the way of Christ is the way of suffering, the way of suffering is a way with Christ.

Have you had the experience of crying out to God for many years, and then as the busy-ness of life takes over, the cry is still there, but not so loud? Then one day you have this moment, where the Holy Spirit nudges you and says, 'Look.' You look and see that God is answering that prayer. A smile comes over your face, and your heart feels full. The blindness of busy-ness is lifted. The blindness of busy-ness When this recently happened to me, I started thinking about how we often get so focused on other things, that we miss what God is doing. Proverbs 29:18 in The Message Bible says ... If people can't see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed. Proverbs 29:18 The Message When I obeyed the prompting of the Holy Spirit, and looked and saw what God was doing, I did indeed feel and know that I was most blessed. The Amplified Bible says Proverbs 29:18 this way, Where there is no vision [no revelation of God and His word], the people are unrestrained; But happy and blessed is he who keeps the law [of God]. Proverbs 29:18 AMP Ummm ... No revelation of God and His word ... the people are unrestrained... The blindness in our thinking Let's look at this scripture for a moment in the context of our thought-life. That is, when our thoughts are not focused on God's truth they can wander wherever they desire. This happens when we are not actively taking our thoughts captive, as God says to do in 2 Corinthians 10:5. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV This is another blindness, not towards what God is doing, but in relation to what we are thinking! Negative thoughts causing blindness I experienced this type of blindness recently when I let negative thoughts overwhelm me. They caused me to lose sight of God's word. I couldn't see the good. I couldn't see a positive path forward. The story Over the past month our daughter has had nine medical appointments in relation to her left leg, and there are two more this coming week. Attending all these appointments brought back the memories of the multiple hospital visits from her time of having chemotherapy treatment. Late last week, both my daughter and I were at the point of sighing, crying and thinking, 'No, not another appointment,' and 'Will it always be like this?' So strong is the emotional pull of old memories and feelings of despair - grief. For our daughter during recent years the negative experiences around these ongoing appointments have been offset by the joy and excitement of swimming training and competing at sporting events. But due to COVID-19 restrictions and other factors beyond our control, those activities are currently not happening. So, the question she now often asks is, 'What is there to look forward to?' What is there to look forward to? What is there to look forward to? Yes, blindness can stop us looking forward and it can stop us looking to Jesus. The blind beggar These thoughts about blindness led me to reading the story of Jesus healing the blind beggar Bartimaeus, recounted in Mark 10 and Luke 18. Then they came to Jericho. And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a great crowd, a blind beggar, Bartimaeus, a son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, saying, Jesus, Son of David, have pity and mercy on me [now]! And many severely censured and reproved him, telling him to keep still, but he kept on shouting out all the more, You Son of David, have pity and mercy on me [now]!" And Jesus stopped and said, Call him. And they called the blind man, telling him, Take courage! Get up! He is calling you. And throwing off his outer garment, he leaped up and and came to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, What do you want Me to do for you? And the blind man said to Him, Master, let me receive my sight. And Jesus said to him, Go your way; your faith has healed you. And at once he receive his sight and accompanied Jesus on the road. Mark 10:46-52 AMPC What did God speak to you about as we read that story? For me, there were four things which I share below. But first, lets give thanks for the revelation God brings to us through His word. Remember Proverbs 29:18 that we read earlier, Where there is no vision [no revelation of God and His word], the people are unrestrained; But happy and blessed is he who keeps the law [of God]. Proverbs 29:18 AMP Keep asking. Don't give up Firstly, Bartimaeus called out to Jesus not once, but twice. He didn't give up. Interestingly when this story is recounted in Luke, earlier in Chapter 18, Jesus is teaching the disciples about prayer, saying, Don't you know that God, the true judge, will grant justice to all of his chosen ones who cry out to him night and day? He will pour out his Spirit upon them. He will not delay to answer you and give you what you ask for. God will give swift justice to those who don't give up. So be ever praying, ever expecting, just like the widow was with the judge. Luke 18:7-8a TPT Jesus finishes this teaching about prayer with this question, a challenge to me and you ... Yet when the Son of Man comes back, will he find this kind of persistent faithfulness in his people? Luke 18:8b TPT Revelation (or reminder) Keep calling out to Jesus. Let's be people of persistent faith.   Courage to respond Secondly, when Jesus responded to the blind beggar's call, it appears from the disciple's words that Bartimaeus was a little hesitant to go to Jesus. So they went to the blind man and said, "Have courage! Get up! Jesus is calling for you!" Mark 10:49 TPT As we know Bartimaeus did muster the courage, get up and go to Jesus. Imagine if he hadn't. He would have missed that opportunity to receive healing. The Message Bible says, They called him. "It's your lucky day! Get up! He's calling you to come!" Mark 10:49 The Message His lucky day indeed! Revelation (or reminder) Sometimes it takes courage to respond to what Jesus asks us to do, but that is part of the faith adventure. Note: there is a great song that reminds me to take courage: Take Courage by Kristine DiMarco.   Throw off the old cloak Thirdly, look what Bartimeaus did when he responded to Jesus ... And throwing off his outer garment, he leaped up and came to Jesus. Luke 10:50 AMPC It seems like, that to get up, Bartimeaus had to throw off something - his outer garment. The Passion Translation says, So he threw off his beggars' cloak, jumped up, and made his way to Jesus. Luke 10:50 TPT He had to throw off the cloak that represented his old life, before he could receive the new life Jesus had for him. Revelation (or reminder) This was one of the main points of the story God wanted me to understand. I had to throw off the old memories of years of medical appointments. I had to take those thoughts captive and remind myself that we are in a new season now. This is not the past. God is doing a new thing. Some serious talk to self, declaring God's truth and promises was required. For both me, but for our daughter.   Confidence in Jesus' power Finally, Bartimaeus had confidence that Jesus could make him well. Jesus said to him, "Go; your faith [and confident trust in My power] has made you well." Immediately he regained his sight and began following Jesus on the road. Mark 10:52 AMP So a question for us, "Who or what are we putting our confidence in today?" Revelation (or reminder) There is only one answer -> Jesus. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life." John 14:6 NKJV   The Blindness and Jesus So just remember to keep a look out for blindness in your life. The blindness of busy-ness can cause us to miss seeing what God is doing in our lives. The blindness of negative thinking can stop us looking to Jesus, the One we need to have our confidence in. The importance of confidence in Jesus Three final thoughts on the importance of confidence in Jesus, and accompanying scripture, because remember what the Amplified Bible says in Proverbs 29:18. Where there is no vision [no revelation of God and His word], the people are unrestrained; But happy and blessed is he who keeps the law [of God]. Proverbs 29:18 AMP 1. We need to have confidence that with Jesus we can do all things. I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfil His purpose - I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.] Philippians 4:13 AMP 2. We need to have confidence that with Jesus we can more than overcome. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37 NKJV 3. And when we can't find that confidence, we need to remember. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power my rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9-11 NIV To find out more please visit https://wendyrobinson.com.au

Sermon by Jenna Meyers on Job 42:1-6 (and Job more generally) and Mark 10:46-52 recorded October 25th, 2015. This sermon is in conversation with scholars Raymond Scheindlin and Shaye J.D. Cohen. Playing with the interwoven images of the (Bartimeaus) blind beggar narrative, a relationship is developed to the modern audience, as well as to the Marcan community, who likely heard the story around the fall of the second temple. One of those images is of Jerricho and the walls tumbling down. When there was no reason to hope, their hope in a promised land was realized. Remembering Jerricho, the Marcan community might have found renewed “sight” of hope as they were facing loss and devastation of their own. In both Mark and Job, and potentially for us, hope is found within community and resiliency through story.
