Nobody ever said that homeschooling would be easy (and if they did they must be lying). How could it be? It's one of the most self-sacrificing endeavors that you could ever attempt. In this episode, we'll discuss how this often discouraging struggle against our selfish nature is the very thing our children need to see played out before them so that they too may be inspired to struggle against their lesser selves. It's Tuesday, February 28th, A.D. 2023. Today marks the eighth-year anniversary of the airing of The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus.(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Woke companies that target Christians and conservatives Fox News has put together a list of woke companies that go after conservatives and Christians in the U.S. Bank of America tops the list of banks, as well as U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, and First Republic. Under the transportation category, the woke-est companies include Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines. In the retail category, the worst culprits now include Best Buy, Home Depot, Kohl's, Macy's, Madewell, Target, and Walmart. The woke-est online retailers include Amazon, Chewy, eBay, Etsy, and Shopify. The food and beverage “wokies” include Ben & Jerry's, Coca-Cola, Kellogg's, McDonald's, PepsiCo, Starbucks, and the J.M. Smucker Company. The study is based on the 1792 Exchange review of 1,000 companies on “the likelihood a company will cancel a contract or client, or boycott, divest, or deny services based on views or beliefs." Disturbingly, Home Depot "advertised flyers to its employees about confronting their ‘white privilege, Christian privilege, heterosexual privilege, able-bodied privilege,' etc." Fake Medical Sharing group was a scam What was purported to be the Medical Cost Sharing Ministry has been closed down by the FBI. It targeted “like-minded Christians,” but according to government estimates, collected $7.5 million over eight years, but only dispersed $246,000 in covering health care bills, reports the Kansas City Star. Founders James L. McGinnis and Craig A. Reynolds were previous insurance salesmen who allegedly used the scam for their own enrichment. Legitimate Christian medical sharing ministries include Samaritan Ministries that services 283,000 families, and commits “to retaining no more than 20% of member shares for administrative purposes.” Plus, Christian Healthcare Ministries claims 425,000 members and Medi-Share has 400,000 members sharing $6 billion per year in medical needs. Church of England approves blessing homosexual relationships Earlier this month, the Church of England General Synod voted to approve blessing homosexual relationships by a vote of 250 to 181. However, the group is hardly relevant anymore. The breakaway Global Anglican Future Conference now represents 35,000,000 active Anglicans, according to World Magazine. And weekly church attendance for the England communion is only 605,000 persons on a Sunday. That's only 0.9% of the population of the nation, down from 5% in 1960, and down from 40% in 1900. Winter weather hit Southern California Southern California was slammed with heavy winter weather over the weekend, with a four-day total of 56 inches on Donner Summit in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Plus, Ventura County was hit with seven inches of rain. At this time in the season, the average snowpack is 156% of average. And overall precipitation for the state registers at 132% of average, year to date. In addition, there is more snow to come this week in Southern California, according to the weather forecasts. Matthew 5:45 says, “Your Father in Heaven. . . makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Archeology verifies Bible Archeology has once more verified ancient biblical records, concerning the Amorites who once controlled some part of the land of Canaan. Two clay tablets, dated in the 21st century BC around the time of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, are now determined to have been written in the Amorite language. As reported in Live Science, some of the phrases have similar sounds to Hebrew. That's not surprising in light of the fact the Amorites lived together for a time in Canaan, until Joshua and others drove them out. The writings refer to Amorite gods and sacrifices. Joshua told the Israelites in Joshua 24:15 “If it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Christian school forfeits because opposing team's trans athlete The Mid-Vermont Christian School girls' basketball team forfeited their fourth game in the playoffs last week because a member of the opposing team was a boy pretending to be a girl, reports Fox News. Vicky Fogg, the Head of School, stated that they withdrew from the tournament because they did not want to compromise the safety of their players. Plus, the White River Junction-based leader said, the “biological male jeopardizes the fairness of the game.” Japan boasts the world's oldest population And finally, the world's oldest population lives in Japan. The next three oldest populations are found in Italy, Finland, and Puerto Rico. As of this year, 30% of the Japanese population is over 65 years of age. Portugal, Greece, Hong Kong, and South Korea are on the rise, soon to catch up with Japan with as much as 40% of the population exceeding 65 years of age, 25 years from now. Charlotte Mason tells us, "From one to two hours...are given in the afternoons to handicrafts, field-work, drawing, etc.; and the evenings are absolutely free, so that the children have leisure for hobbies, family reading, and the like." Charlotte Mason stressed the importance of allowing children free time to pursue their own interests. Many homeschoolers schedule too long for lessons that spill right over into the afternoon. This is why short lessons in the morning with afternoon free for other important work and skills is such a valuable part of the Charlotte Mason education. In this podcast, in addition to hearing how Jeannie's children utilized their free time to grow in their personal interests, we will hear from a homeschooled senior, Joshua Parker, who will share how important it was to have free time in his homeschool days, and how he put those hours to good use, growing proficient and confident in a variety of useful and interesting pursuits. He will share how his parents helped to foster his hobbies, and ways we, as homeschoolers, can support our own children's unique pursuits. ABOUT JOSHUA Joshua Parker is a 19 year old cartographer of fantasy worlds, inventor of wooden weapons, designer of board games, and storyteller of adventures. He loves to talk about serious things and is always ready to dive into a faraway land through the pages of a book. His goal in life is to serve Christ and to further his kingdom on a worldwide scale. Regardless of whether you're just starting out or have been homeschooling for years, getting clear about the “why” behind your homeschool is critical to its longevity. Jeannie and fiction author Jenn Discher discuss the powerful influence that living books have on readers, both positive and negative and how choosing the right books can build character and influence a child's life choices and beliefs. Along with anecdotes from her experience as a Charlotte Mason homeschool mom, Jenn shares how, through reading living books to her children as a homeschool mom, she was inspired with a desire to write living books for children. She shares how, as a homeschool mom, she was able to find time to pen her first novel, The Elk King, a middle grade fantasy. She also shares her favorite resources for teaching young writers the craft of writing fiction. In this talk, you will be inspired to embrace the Charlotte Mason ideals of ensuring your children are immersed in a feast of living ideas and convinced that using the Charlotte Mason model of oral narration to written narration will ensure your children become proficient and skilled writers. About Jenn Jenn Discher has called 19 places home, including a log cabin in the woods and some less rugged suburbs. She's now happily putting down roots in beautiful North Georgia with her husband and three adventurous kids. She likes exploring, reading aloud in bad accents, and writing stories. Her book, The Elk King, is the first in a middle grade fantasy series. She homeschools for many reasons, including the great books she gets to read and the scope for whole-life Christian discipleship. She is grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside her kids and indebted to Charlotte Mason and many classical education thinkers for shaping her homeschooling. About Jeannie Jeannie Fulbright, a 24-year veteran homeschooler, is the author of the #1 best-selling, multi award-winning Apologia Young Explorer science series: Exploring Creation with Astronomy, Chemistry and Physics, Botany, Zoology, and Anatomy & Physiology. She is also the author of the action-packed historical time travel book series Rumble Tumbles Through Time, as well as preschool science books and activity kits, the Charlotte Mason Heirloom Planner, and many high-quality Charlotte Mason based products. If someone came up to you today and asked you the number one reason why you homeschool your children, what would your answer be? Is it because of the poor influences in the public school system? Is it for the educational benefits? For the results? These are all good reasons, but none of them are the ultimate reason why you should homeschool. In this episode I'll explore the "results" based argument when it comes to public school vs. homeschooling and I'll put forward what I believe to be the ultimate reason why schooling (see rearing) your children at home is superior to sending them off to a government run school.
