Roots Music Rambler is not designed to be a breaking news outlet, but don't tell Ben Chapman that. In our recent sit-down for Roots Music Rambler the Georgia-native and standout singer-songwriter dropped news item after news item. Chapman, who recently tied the knot with longtime girlfriend and fellow songwriter Meg McRee shared the news of their upcoming first child (which they'd already shared on social media), but then told of a new solo album coming up, plus a collaboration project with McRee, Brit Taylor and Adam Chafins. The foursome released “Gone as it Gets” three years ago. Apparently a 10-track LP from the group is due in early 2026! On his new solo album, Chapman said, “It's weird.” He likened it to Pink Floyd, but promised it wouldn't be a huge departure from what his fans have come to expect from him. Chapman's latest album is Downbeat. He's been touring in support of it for over a year now and has added up-and-coming performer to an already impressive songwriting resume which includes material recorded by Shelby Lynne, The Steel Woods, Flatland Cavalry and Muscadine Bloodline, among others. He's spent the better part of the last 6-7 years as a contract songwriter in Nashville, along with McCree, who is a frequent collaborator. We were thrilled to have him join us and excited at the news he wound up sharing. You'll enjoy this episodes. Ben Chapman is the General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer at Swoop. Prior to Swoop, Ben was the Deputy General Counsel for Real Chemistry. He has nearly 10 years of experience in ad tech, data, and privacy matters. In this episode… Companies that operate in the healthcare marketing space, like Swoop, approach privacy by emphasizing transparency, ethical practices, and building trusted partnerships. To remain compliant, businesses need to thoroughly understand their data handling processes and regularly assess their partners. By asking detailed, factual questions, companies can make informed decisions about their partners' practices and ultimately strengthen their privacy programs. Additionally, adopting a consumer- or patient-centric perspective helps businesses navigate the complexities of privacy laws while aligning with regulatory requirements and ethical standards. A proactive and well-informed approach to privacy strengthens compliance efforts and builds trust. Healthcare marketing faces new challenges as privacy laws evolve and health data definitions expand. Laws like the Washington My Health My Data Act broaden the scope of what constitutes health data, requiring organizations to reevaluate how they handle consumer data. Navigating this complex regulatory landscape requires companies to ensure compliance with state privacy laws and federal regulations like HIPAA, all while maintaining trust and transparency with consumers. How can companies ensure ethical and privacy-friendly marketing practices? In this episode of She Said Privacy/He Said Security, Jodi and Justin Daniels speak with Ben Chapman, General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer at Swoop, about the intersection of privacy and healthcare marketing. They discuss how state privacy laws redefine health data, the importance of ethical data practices, and strategies for evaluating partners. Ben shares his insights on building privacy programs, fostering collaboration, and navigating the nuances of healthcare marketing in a highly regulated environment. He also highlights the importance of continuous learning and collaboration within the privacy community to stay ahead in the ever-changing regulatory environment.

We often hear the saying, “There is no growth in comfort,” and we took this to heart from the beginning. We were once recipients of a short-term mission outreach in Manila. If we stayed with a mission-field mentality, we would never become the mission force we are today. As God empowers us to carry out His mission, let us step out of our comfort zone into the unknown by faith.May we press on with the same passion, pursue His call to make disciples, and be His mission force for the next 40 years and beyond.

We don't often focus on the negative aspects of baseball in the Major Leagues. But there have been some bad people who've made it to the game's grandest stage. Some of the things these heinous characters did during and after their playing career are almost unbelievable. We should have mentioned that Ben Chapman was portrayed as horribly racist in the movie about Jackie Robinson '42'.
