Cat Lantigua is a first-generation Dominican-American author, community architect, podcast host and creative strategist helping to build spaces that foster soul-centered conversations and a sense of belonging. Today she joins PRETTYSMART to share all about her new book “Build It and They Will Come - A Guide to Architecting Intentional Community.” She Shares: How she learned to embrace herself as a kid even though she felt she was always standing out. How she manifested friendships that really allowed her to be herself. Why it's so important to leave room for spontaneity and get out of your routine if you're looking to expand your community or become a different version of yourself. What led her to create the Goddess Council and bring people together in community. Why everyone is lonelier than we realize. Why we need to get back to caring about other people's pain. How social media has made us forget that we are all human beings and her tips to get off line and into IRL. Her top tips for hosting a get together. Why you have to push through the awkwardness of putting yourself out there (and off of your phone!) Why true friendship and a community you feel safe in won't happen until you really practice self love. Follow Cat on Instagram @cat.lantigua Her book “Build It And They Will Come.” is available here!
Cat is a community architect, podcast host, author, and a gem of a human that I discovered during the pandemic. She is the queen of "if I don't like it, then I can always change my mind" and in today's episode she's diving into her decision to pack up her life and move to Mexico City, moving past limited beliefs and stepping outside of your comfort zone, and our mutual love for living ~delusionally. This week I caught up with my friend Cat Lantigua. We met in NYC many years ago and she did the podcast back then. Now she's back with a conversation that covers all she's learned in the last few months including: navigating leaving her full-time job and the transition to being a freelancer, experiencing burnout, managing energy, hitting low lows, honesty in communication, navigating change (including moving states), relationships in the pandemic, communicating boundaries and more. Sometimes you have to build the community you're missing, and that's what my guest Cat Lantigua did when she moved back to New York at age 24 and found herself in a scary situation without a strong support system. At 27 years old, Cat is the CEO and founder of Goddess Council, a safe space for like-minded women to come together for activities like journaling, venting sessions, tarot reading and a lot more. In this episode, Cat and I discuss: The scary situation that became the catalyst to building her community Trusting your intuitive superpower and acting on it Guidance from our ancestors and making the choices they weren't allowed to make for themselves Join us in our discussion about trying to normalize the idea that we all have the right to attain and create the reality that we want, regardless of access to money and networks. https://www.cynthiasantiagoborbon.com/ Download free guide at: https://www.dreammakersacademy.com/alignwithyourpurposeguide Find Cat: https://www.catlantigua.com/ https://www.instagram.com/cat.lantigua/ Learn more about the Goddess Council: https://goddess-council.mn.co/ https://www.instagram.com/goddess.council/
After graduating from Florida International University with a degree in International Relations and Latin American & Caribbean Studies, Cat Lantigua picked up everything she knew about work, hustle, and purpose and moved her vibrant, Dominican-American soul to New York City. As an original intent to pursue a career the nonprofit sector fell out of alignment, and her total lack of community started to set in, Cat decided to take her experience with herself and others into her own hands. What started as dinner parties in her dining room for friends around town soon evolved into what's now known as the Goddess Council: a community for women to make new friendships, participate in meaningful conversations, and heal collectively. Cat has since left her corporate role, moved out of the city, and now runs Goddess Council full-time as Community Architect. In 2020, Cat was recognized by Aerie as a Changemaker for her work with Goddess Council, and it's an absolute joy to host her on Passages today. In this episode, I ask Cat about her definition of wellbeing, her experience leading herself and other women towards nourishing and intentional community, lessons in courage, and the antidote to hustle culture. Cat is a voice of healing I know I, and many others, will need during this year and beyond, bringing inspiration, light, and conversations that matter to women and this world. Today’s is a long one but a good one with the very wise Seher. We met at The Wing last spring and recorded this conversation a couple week’s ago in her beautiful Brooklyn apartment. Seher is one of the smartest, most fascinating people I know. As you’ll hear in this episode she was born to Pakistani immigrants in the San Francisco Bay area, then attended Wharton for business, initially attempted a traditional corporate job, but ultimately became a freelance photographer. Now she views herself as an inter-disciplinarian; which we get into in this episode. We talk about leaving her corporate job, her transition to photography, learning a new skills, and becoming a music photographer. We talk a lot about family and navigating her very strict immigrant parents and a move across the country. We also get into mental health stigma, her depression and what helped her with it, including therapy and wellness and healing arts including qigong, and way more it’s a long one and a good one. I met Cat at The Wing recently and found out we have a lot in common, she also hosts a podcast, wears many hats, and we moved to New York the same month. After I had her over to my apartment a few weeks ago to record this episode, I realized we related to each other in even more ways than I expected. Cat is one of the most creative, driven, and motivated millennials I've ever met and more importantly she's warm, sweet, kind, and a delight to chat with. We talked about embracing natural hair, her Afro-Latina culture and identity including a new project she's starting related to it, and our millennial generation's best and worst tendencies. We got into her great tips for finding balance between creating and consuming social media, how to find time to for personal creative projects with a full time job and still maintaining relationships, self-care, and a life along side all the busy that brings.
