June Marisa Kaewsith, also known as "Jumakae," is a professional artist, wellness consultant, and storytelling coach. After spending her twenties as an artist and community organizer inside nonprofit organizations, she began craving an alternative narrative to healing and justice beyond the struggle. Curiosity led her back to Thailand, where she studied with a traditional midwife to learn the ways of her ancestors. That's when she realized that all of our ancestors were entrepreneurial, filling a need in the community through their sacred offerings. This sparked her calling to assist others in remembering their magic. This conversation was truly a combination of a breath of fresh air and a grounded conversation rooted in truth. What I love about Jumakae is the commitment she has to help you understand your story and how it relates to the stories of your ancestors, while maintaining a balanced, beautiful view of our ability to live a fulfilling life. Themes: Healing, Health, Holistic Health, Emotions, Self Love Summary: Something we don't talk enough about is how hard the healing journey can be. We're fed fluffy images on social media about the awakening that takes place or a cool infographic about what to expect when we're going through the process, but those things don't cover the breadth of what can happen when we start the process of healing. In this solo episode, I'm sharing some reminders for you if you're on the path in this chapter of your life. My goal for this episode is to give you both a pep talk and a loving reminder that you're not alone on this journey. Self-awareness is one of the most talked about words and concepts in the healing space right now. From how to be more self-aware to what hinders us from being self-aware, it can cause a lot of us to ask ourselves the question, “how much do I know myself?” And if we don't know the answer to that question, it can bring up a lot of shame as we look around to see the perception of other people knowing about themselves when we don't. In this solo episode, I'm sharing five tools that have helped me garner a better understanding of myself and that have given me permission to dive deeper into who I am. This is one of those episodes where you're going to want a notepad and a pen to take some notes as you prepare to explore the core essence of who you are! If you've been paying attention to what's happening within the world related to work, a lot of folks are rethinking how they show up within their workspaces (me included). With the panorama, all of us have been forced to look at our relationship with work and reimagine how we can flip the idea of a “work-life” balance to one of a “life-work” balance. In this solo episode, and fresh off of vacation, I'm reflecting on my own journey to center my personal life and shift away from making my work the main focus of my life. While everyone's in a different season of their lives, there's a mindset shift we need to make to change how we view balance. Moreover, what if balance doesn't exist? What if we can focus more on our own lives outside of work? What would it look like to take our humanity back? Have you been feeling like you can't speak your truth? Those moments when you feel the push and pull between wanting to vocalize what you're feeling and wanting to mind your business? Or maybe it's a feeling of you wanting to run and hide to avoid any sort of discomfort? I've been there many times over friend. In this solo episode, I'm sharing what I've learned about self-censorship and how I now think about this concept in a practical way. My intention with this episode is to invite you to reflect on the ways you've been censoring yourself, but also give you permission to not have to react to everything all of the time. We also talk about: The definition of self-censorship What it looks like to speak up for your values Releasing people-pleasing tendencies Choosing a better life Learning how to have disagreements How disagreeing with people is healthy Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback & Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? As a certified meditation guide, journal author, wellness educator, and founder of Manifest House™, Angelee Andorfer-Lopez is all about creating virtual wellbeing spaces rooted in a community that helps BIPOC women and allies care for all aspects of themselves unapologetically. Inspired by her own self-healing journey, Angelee has helped hundreds of women come back home to themselves by deepening their connection to self, community, and nature. If you're looking for a conversation about all things holistic wellness, this one is for you. What I love about this conversation is that we hit home on all of the basics that all of us (including me) need a refresher on: listening to nature, taking care of yourself, and showing up in your truth. This episode is an invitation to check in with yourself and how you're practicing and implementing these wellness fundamentals in your own life. We also talk about: Her relationship with wellness What it means to come back to ourselves The issue with always wanting to transform ourselves Deepening into the acceptance of ourselves Taking off the armor Not everyone is ready to see the full you Releasing the control of other people's reactions to you standing in your truth A different way to look at grief Getting curious about your wellness Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback & Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? When I turned 30, I had a mini freak out and started asking myself a bunch of questions. Why do I still hate my job? Why aren't my relationships going the way I want? What's my purpose? And while I give myself an immense amount of grace during this time, I realized I wasn't asking myself the correct question. I should've been asking myself: how do I live a more fulfilling life through the lens of jobs, relationships, etc? For the past 10 months, I've been intentionally focusing on how to create more fulfillment through dissecting what it means to be fulfilled (because none of us learn this when we're growing up), and where the disconnect was rooted in not feeling fulfilled. This episode is a beautiful combination of the grounding tactical things I've done to improve the quality of my life, while also adding in a bit of the woo and fluidity of creating fulfillment for ourselves. We also talk about: The difference between happiness and fulfillment Creating opportunities to do things that light you up Find multiple outlets for fulfillment An important question to ask yourself throughout the process of finding fulfillment Building systems for inspiration Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback & Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? As a Cuban-American journalist and podcast host, Gabriela Ulloa is all about covering topics from Latinx culture and mental health to beauty, style, identity, personal development, and mental health. Through her work, she's dedicated her storytelling to highlighting stigmatized topics, particularly within marginalized communities. Mostly, she works to normalize talking about feelings on the internet. If you're looking for a chill, down-to-earth conversation about mental health then this episode is the one for you. What I love about this conversation is that we centered the conversation around this idea of “being broken” as we debunk why that's actually not true as we share stories about our own lives to dispel that myth. This episode is an invitation to look at all facets of your mental health in a way where you feel like you're chatting with a couple of friends sipping a cup of tea. We also talk about: Her relationship with mental health The stereotypes she's dealt with in her own mental health journey The emphasis on work for immigrant kids and how it impacts our inner child The integration of culture and mental health How our partners can be mirrors of our deeper work Removing the identity of achievement The lessons she's learned from breakups about standing in her power Are you lying to yourself? All of us can recall a moment along this journey of life where we've received a piece of relationship advice that made us go “huh”? Me included. In an age of constant information, we have access to so many different ways of thinking and perspectives related to relationships, but there's still so much information out there that clings to a narrative that no longer works in today's dating world. While I've been in multiple long-term relationships and have navigated my own dating life, I've come to realize that a lot of the relationship advice we're given is rooted in fear. So in today's solo episode, I'm sharing those pieces of advice that I've received and flipping them on their head to reveal a different way to cultivate loving, healthy relationships. We also talk about: Why the world is fascinated with relationships Putting effort into connecting with people Things you're unintentionally doing that make you seem unavailable The difference between losing yourself and letting parts of you go The role of self-love in relationships Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback & Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? As the Vice President of Health Strategy at the American Heart Association and a public health professional, Dr. Angelica Hardee (aka Dr. JB) is focused on addressing the top health priorities of the Greater Cincinnati/NKY region by leading work related to hypertension, e-cigarette/tobacco use, and healthy food access. More specifically, she engages with community organizations and neighborhood coalitions to identify their health & wellness priorities. As a friend of fifteen years and one of the most dedicated people I know to create equitable wellness for all, I always have fun catching up with her. What I love about this conversation is that we touch on many different facets of public health that we don't talk about within the larger wellness space and how it impacts our communities. This episode is an invitation to care for your community in a deeper way while understanding the systemic issues we continue to face domestically. We also talk about: A fun memory from high school How the global pandemic impacted the public health space The interconnectedness of government systems and health How we can make an impact on the health of our communities One of the biggest health issues that we're facing with the youth A behind the scenes look at wellness public policies Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback & Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? If you're like me, you've gone through many experiences in your life where you've felt this need to shift into a new identity (ie. welcome to my teen years where I wanted to be a new person all of the time). But while it can be liberating to step into a new version of yourself, there's also an opportunity for fear to slowly creep in too and that fear could stop you from said evolution. While my needing to shed a few aspects of my identity is showing up more often in my 30's and Saturn return, I've started to wrap my head around the pieces we often forget within this process. So in today's solo episode, I'm sharing what I've been working with as I enter into different identities and shift my thought process into one that supports my overall growth. More specifically, she focuses on tapping into her gift as a natural-born healer and alchemist dedicating herself to bringing accessible wellness and healing sanctuaries to communities of color. I've been following Mariam on IG for a while and love her realistic and down-to-earth approach to what it means to be spiritual in the modern world. What I love about this conversation is that we ground ourselves in the understanding that the core of spirituality is balancing curiosity and an openness to change. This episode is an invitation to dedicate yourself to your spiritual practice as a way to liberate yourself. We also talk about: How she found spirituality and made it her work Showing up authentically to let your spiritual gifts flourish The importance of spiritual exploration Why we disconnect the physical body from the spiritual How to make a soul decision Remembering that you have a say in what you create Working with your destiny and remembering it's not your job An important question to ask yourself in knowing your destiny Feeling the pressure to go back to “normal” Connect with us after the show at https://rainemediaco.com (https://rainemediaco.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @holaimkayla Order my book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback & Kindle https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? Listen, I've made many (and I mean many) mistakes when it comes to my own wellness journey. Signing up for random fitness classes (check), buying all of the organic food (check), consuming all of the books or podcasts (check), and even doing all of the trendy things I can find on social media (check). But most of that didn't actually work. Truthfully, I spent a lot of time and money trying to make a lot of that stuff work. People say, “failing to plan is a plan to fail,” but I made the plan and stuck to it with little success. So in today's solo episode, I'm sharing some of the biggest mistakes I made when I first started my wellness journey and how I've worked with them to fit my lifestyle now. As an Embodied Business Coach, EFT Practitioner, Podcaster, and Recovering Procrastinator, Pam Covarrubias's passions are elevating women and small businesses by helping them grow their revenues, dismantling limiting beliefs, and aligning their business with their intuition and energy seasons. More specifically, she dreams of co-creating a future where work works for everyone without glorifying productivity. Pam's approach is a dance between practical success strategy and intuitive personal discovery that helps you stay true to your unique story as you accomplish big things. As Pam is the homie (and a fellow Scorpio placement), I wanted to get deep with her on what it means to navigate the human experience. What I love about this conversation is that it all ties into the idea of us wanting to be seen as human beings and what that can look like for us in our day-to-day and business lives. This episode is an invitation to not have everything figured out, but know that trying is just as important. We also talk about: Why balance is bullshit Why the idea of being balanced can lead to shame Why emotions can get trapped in the body How she makes choices to align with her inner compass The difference between what shadow work is versus what we see online Her fear of being seen and unlearning that through her healing practices What our businesses can teach us about yourselves as entrepreneurs How and why to follow your jealousy Feeling safe within your existence Connect with us after the show at https://kaylanedza.com/ (kaylanedza.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration on IG: @kaylanedza Order Kayla's book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? While we talk mostly about budgeting through using apps, spreadsheets, etc, we don't talk a lot about the conscious part of spending our money. Similarly, we hear messages about saving our money - which is fine. But what if we changed the narrative to look forward in how we choose to spend our money versus looking back and looking at what we purchased through our spending and saving? In this solo episode, I'm talking about all things conscious spending. My goal with this episode is to empower you with a few things I've done to cultivate positive spending habits, not banning yourself from spending altogether. This episode is an invitation to align yourself with how you want to spend your hard-earned coins. We also talk about: My history with random spending and shifting to be more conscious with my purchases The emotional complex of spending Using what we already have Setting a budget Creating wish lists Reassessing our values alongside our purchases De-cluttering is key Connect with us after the show at https://kaylanedza.com (https://kaylanedza.com)! As a wellness and career transition coach, Wafa Oubella's passion is helping high-performing corporate folks overcome exhaustion, prevent burnout, build more fulfilling careers and live healthier lives. From her experience, she deeply understands the challenges associated with working as a millennial in fast-paced industries and the fear associated with changing career paths. Let's be real: making change is hard af. I loved this discussion with Wafa as I've openly shared about my own wellness journey at the intersection of trying to figure out my career and identity within my jobs. While a lot of us think that corporate wellness is about getting free lunches or more happy hours, this discussion is centered around the importance of true wellness when it comes to working. Whether you're looking to stay in corporate or leave to find your own path, this is an invitation for you to do wellness differently in your career. We also talk about: Listening to the signs from the Universe Shifting from unconscious decision making to the conscious Releasing the distractions in our lives and our work Deciding to do things differently Gender roles and the workplace What workplace wellness actually is versus what it's been presented as A 3 step plan to regulate your emotions at work Connect with us after the show at https://kaylanedza.com/ (kaylanedza.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @kaylanedza Order Kayla's book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? As a solo polyamorous, queer pansexual, and owner of Marjani Lane, Ebony Hagans is big on sexual agency, autonomy over our love styles, and wants us to experience our freedom and be comfortable while doing it. Through her work with Marjani Lane, she's focused on the education of ethical non-monogamy & alternative love styles while emphasizing Black representation. I'm HYPE about this conversation with Ebony as I've been deep into my own exploration of different love styles and relationship structures. While a lot of us shun the idea of anything different than monogamy, this discussion is about expanding our minds to what's possible within the way we relate to each other. This isn't a campaign for you to quit monogamy, but it's an invitation to uplevel how each of us shows up in our relationships moving forward. We also talk about: Her relationship with love The role of control and codependency in today's relationships The intersection of race, religion, and sexuality in love styles Unlearning lessons about ourselves and our relationships Remembering that our self-value belongs to us The different forms of non-monogamy The 1 question to ask yourself if you're thinking about being non-monogamous Moving through jealousy Connect with us after the show at https://kaylanedza.com/ (kaylanedza.com) Resources Connect with me for daily inspiration and laughs on IG: @kaylanedza Order Kayla's book Things I Could Never Thank You For for paperback https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578923017? While dreaming is incorporated heavily into our culture, you're probably aware of the many systems and ideologies that limit our ability to call in our biggest dreams and goals. We're told to dream without limitations, but it's much easier said than done as we fight the programming we've learned over the years. Moreover, what if we released the need to be practical and go after the life we dream of? In this solo episode, I'm giving you some things to think about as you give yourself permission to dream a little bit bigger and a little more out loud. This episode is a loving reminder that you have the ability to co-create anything you want in this life. Through her work with Life of Leisure, she wants to create a wellness movement empowering overwhelmed women to reclaim their time (and humanity!) during the age of busyness, burnout + work. I love this conversation with Luz as it's the most timely discussion during the panorama and how we cultivate more leisure through having more downtime. Recalibrating how we experience life and how we embody our own form of rest (which is different than self-care) is a major component of our wellness. If you're down to equip yourself with the mindset & tools to prioritize yourself through the lost art of leisure, Luz and I got you in this week's chat. One of my favorite topics to talk about is self-love, because who doesn't want to love on yourself a little bit more? But if we're talking about loving yourself, we also have to talk about that tricky thing called codependency that can sabotage our ability to be more loving to ourselves. In this solo episode, I speak to my own codependent history and how it reared its ugly head for the majority of my life. It was only until I started recognizing my own patterns in therapy that I was able to shift how I approach my relationships with others in a way that doesn't try to validate my self-worth within others. Rather, my relationships have shifted to where I'm now focusing on myself first to be able to pour from a full cup, not the other way around. Tune in to discover how you can think about shifting your own codependency patterns alongside me. We also talk about: The different aspects of codependency Why do a lot of us try to save others at the expense of ourselves How codependency is learned, and not inherent to us The fine line between generosity and overextending Being clear on who has access to your energy Giving our worthiness back to ourselves Connect with us after the show at https://wellnessglowup.com/ (wellnessglowup.com!) Let's get real, with the end of the year coming fast and furious you're putting those resolutions and goals together for next year. Si o no? Trust me, I've been there but I've had to reframe the end of the year to act more as a space to reflect than create more things to do next year. If that sentence speaks to you, I want you to press play and relax into this end-of-the-year episode. Because hot take: the new year isn't about creating a whole new version of who you think you should be, it's about coming back home to yourself. In this conversation, Kayla explores what she's been reflecting on at the end of this year and invites you to do the same alongside her. We also talk about: Why the end of the year energy hits different Calling your energy back The role that digital spaces play into our leaky energy How to practice and embody sustainability Inviting in the real you Noticing how you identify with your self-talk Connect with us after the show at https://wellnessglowup.com/ (wellnessglowup.com!) Do you find yourself abiding by many different food rules? Telling yourself you need to earn your food? Thinking there are ‘good' and ‘bad' foods? If Kayla's honest, she's recognized this tendency in herself in being super restrictive with her food intake. While she's come to learn through therapy that there were larger emotional issues she needed to work through, there's still a lingering mentality of wanting to shrink herself (thanks to the billion-dollar diet industry). What she's come to learn is that it's less about food freedom and more about the habit of nourishing yourself emotionally and physically with food on a daily basis. If you've been wrestling with your relationship with food, today Kayla's sharing what she's learned along the way to help you feel less alone.
