Welcome to the DMF. Where I try to find out what motivates people behind the scenes in the world of acting and entertainment. Today on the podcast I am talking to film director and podcaster: Damien Swaby. It's question time. As always you can reach me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook with my name Justin Younts. Thank you for listening and sit back and enjoy. Welcome to the DMF. I'm Justin Younts. In this episode, I dive into the importance of daily routines and how they can shape our creative processes. I always ask my guests about their beginning of the day routines, and it's fascinating to hear the variety of answers. For me, I don't have a strict morning routine, but I do find peace in the mornings, which I cherish. Many people swear by their routines, whether it's a quick workout or a moment of meditation, but I've found that my creativity often flows better later in the day. One of the key takeaways from this conversation is the discipline of writing. I emphasize the importance of writing a page a day. This practice not only helps in completing drafts faster but also enhances the overall quality of the work. I've learned that when you commit to writing daily, you often exceed that goal, leading to more fulfilling and enjoyable writing sessions. It's a discipline that can transform your creative output. We also discuss the tools I use for screenwriting, like Celtx, which I find invaluable for organizing my thoughts and communicating effectively with my team. The right software can make a significant difference in how we present our stories and collaborate with others in the filmmaking process. Additionally, I touch on the importance of understanding language and linguistics, which can greatly aid in character development. By exploring how language works, we can create more authentic and relatable characters in our scripts. As we wrap up, I share my current interests in music and television, including my newfound appreciation for shows like Grey's Anatomy and The Penguin. These experiences remind me of the value of revisiting the past while also embracing new narratives. If you're looking to enhance your creative process, I encourage you to find your own daily routine that works for you, whether it's writing, reading, or simply taking time to reflect. Remember, the journey of creativity is unique to each of us, and finding what inspires you is key to unlocking your potential. Mark's journey to success doesn't follow the usual script. A lawyer with an entrepreneurial itch, he decided to take the plunge and start a tech company in the early days of the internet. The problem was he didn't have an idea, money, or customers. Knowing the web would change the world, he tested the waters with a smattering of products before landing on Celtx, an online collaboration tool for media creators. Carol sits down with Mark and learns how timing isn't everything, how focusing on the new generation of media creators was a genius go-to strategy, and his unlikely connection to Bollywood.

Screenwriting software such as Final Draft or Celtx can be costly, especially for up-and-coming filmmakers. Plus, from my experience, they're not as collaborative as I'd like them to be. As such, I dug and found a way to turn Google Docs into a screenwriting software! For FREE! Here is the link: https://gsuite.google.com/marketplace/app/screenplay_formatter/351965757287. You just download the extension and BAM, Google Docs becomes your screenwriting software. It's slightly cumbersome I will admit because you have to manually punch in whether it's a scene heading, a character, dialogue, etc each time BUT it is free and WAY easier to collaborate in real time on with other writers, especially as we continue working from home during this pandemic. May this resource help you. Comment down below with any questions or thoughts that you may have. Hit me up on social media @PhilSvitek if it's easier. I'd love to hear from you. Apalagi kalau pesanan skenario sedang banyak-banyaknya.... wah, puyeng! Hidup kaum rebahan! Hehehe.... Selengkapnya, silakan simak episode podcast terbaru ini. Semoga bermanfaat! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/braindito/message

This episode is all about Saturday's class where we diagram the movie Manhunter, by Michael Mann. This is the precursor to the Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal Lektor is just as scary in this even though he is a minor character.Using scripts of The Village, by M. Night Shyamalan and Heat, also by Michael Mann, we looked at how to do the formatting. Writing the content of a movie is a whole other matter which we didn't get into. The first step in the door is the actual format of the script. People are very particular that it look a certain way, all the letters are crossed and dotted, headings are just so. Also I pass along some tips for things to avoid when writing for visualization. Here is a list of items for formatting the page:LocationAction BlockCharacter NameParentheticalDialogTransitions Lots of software you can use, Final Draft we're using in class, Movie Magic Screenwriter is another app available. Demos are available. There's a free, opensource screenwriting software called Celtx that I have downloaded, but haven't really looked at.Books are available, but looking at scripts, which you can download from IMSDB, SciFi Movie Page, Simply Scripts and the Weekly Script. A couple online magazines are Script and Creative Screenwriting.
