What if you built a coworking space… designed so you barely had to be there? That's exactly what Glenn Hicks did. After 27 years in IT leadership and a life-changing heart attack at 34, Glenn completely rethought how he worked. Instead of jumping into another executive role, he became what he calls a "digital independent." But he couldn't find a workspace that actually fit the way he wanted to work. So he built Ustation — a beautifully designed, mostly self-serve workspace in New Brunswick that runs with almost no staff (and Glenn lives three hours away). In this episode we talk about: How he runs a 3,500 sq ft coworking space with almost no on-site staff Why smaller spaces can actually create better community The simple tech setup that avoids the dreaded 5-minute meeting room startup Why he installed a private work pod in an airport Glenn is thoughtful, unconventional, and very intentional about how he spends his time (he works about 20 hours a week now). If you're thinking about building a simpler, smarter coworking model — you'll enjoy this conversation. Hari Padmanabhan, Founder – Chairman, UnciaThe discussion moves beyond buzzwords like AI and cloud-native, arguing that most institutions are still in early transformation stages. True AI-driven lending, he suggests, will emerge only when every transaction continuously trains the system. Uncia's Zero Implementation and Self-Serve model challenges traditional, time-heavy deployments - shifting control to institutions through configurable, low-code tools like Uncia Studio. We also explore how the Pay-As-You-Grow model is reshaping cost economics for SME lenders and NBFCs, turning technology from upfront capex into scalable opex. The broader shift? Lending platforms are evolving from static systems into adaptive ecosystems - where cloud, AI, and embedded learning quietly redefine how credit is designed, deployed, and scaled.

HIRING MANAGER SELF SERVE - THE PAST AND FUTURE OF RECRUITMENT? It was also the Past of Recruitment - where hiring managers were doing most of the work in hiring for their teams, everything from putting up adverts in shop windows, handling the first enquiries, reviewing CV's, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, interviewing candidates and then offering / hiring said candidates. Perhaps Personnel got involved in the contracts of employment, but 'recruitment' was once handled entirely by the line. Could it be that this model returns, as AI improves to such an extent that a centralised TA function may not be the most optimal model? Lets explore how some companies have shifted from centralised TA to empowering hiring managers to do more of the hiring work - What conditions best suit centralised vs decentralised TA teams? - Pro's / Cons of decentralised vs centralised - What degree of hiring maturity is required for hiring manager self serve? - Retail franchises are the obvious business type for this model: which others? - How to avoid hiring managers bad practice in hiring? - Bias mitigation - realistic in HM? - How to ensure QoH in decentralised model? - What tools are best suited for this model - How does AI support hiring manager self serve? - What role does a recruiter continue to play in such a set up? - How can a business improve its hiring capability if we go hiring manager self serve? - What are the top things to remember if you are planning to making this shift? Today's digital landscape isn't just shaped by code—it's shaped by how deeply companies listen. Whether in retail, software, or AI, brands that center their design around real user behavior are pulling ahead. Intuit's “Follow Me Home” approach exemplifies this mindset, encouraging teams to observe customers in their daily environments to uncover real needs. This commitment to customer-centric innovation continues to influence how digital products are designed, tested, and trusted. So how do personal passions like music, books, or frustration with bad service help create better digital experiences? On this episode of DisruptED, host Ron J Stefanski welcomes back Scott Wilder, Global Head of Digital Self-Serve at LastPass and longtime friend from their Borders Books and Music days. Together, they reflect on how early exposure to physical retail and analog media helped inform Scott's approach to customer-centric innovation, particularly in building digital self-service solutions rooted in empathy, simplicity, and trust.Key Highlights:Fixing the Fractured Self-Serve Experience – Scott breaks down how disjointed help centers, support portals, and learning sites confuse users and weaken trust. He shares his approach to designing seamless, customer-first digital journeys.Bringing the Customer into the Room – Drawing on his time at Intuit, Scott explains how physically involving customers in product discussions—through calls, visits, or even team meetings—creates more meaningful innovation than spreadsheets ever could.Building Trust in an AI-Driven World – As AI tools become more central to support and learning, Scott argues that trust, clarity, and human touchpoints will define which experiences succeed and which fail. This is a special treat to have Scott Wilder from Last Pass on the DisruptED podcast. Ron and Scott worked together for 5 years at Borders Books and Music. As they acknowledge on these shows, they learned an awful lot about the kind of intellectual curiosity that fuels innovation.Scott is a recognized thought leader in advancing technology after leading a number of highly innovative tech initiatives as a key executive at Intuit, Google, Hubspot, Udacity, Coursera and Adobe. His passion for technology is fueled by intense curiosity about how to make things work better.

Self serve supermarket tills need scrapping. They promote isolation, protect shoplifters and raise prices. No one likes them. Shops need to put more emphasis on community rather than just the ruthless pursuit of profit and we as customers should demand this. When I said this on social media I had over 3 million impressions. Many agreed but significant members of Generation Z violently disagreed with me. They are part of a wider problem in the modern world. Too many of them are self obsessed narcissists valuing their over priced coffees more than our society. I was called a Boomer as an insult. However it is Boomers who rebuilt society, went to the moon, promoted equal rights for women and gays and created a society where these over pampered, self centred woke jokers can indulge their selfish desires. Listen and tell me if I'm right or wrong!
Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantslayer@gmail.com BAM - watch them every Tuesday night on our Facebook page. August Friday and Saturday 16th 17th End times conference at HillSpring Church sponsored by The David Alliance, INTRO: Giving it all to Jesus rolls off the tongue so easily… Im going to give Jesus my all… but when we realize what that really means… well its a lot harder… what does serving Jesus really mean? Loving others… and yet still we find it hard to understand that fully… and thats where we are going today. Hans Seleai Doctor Scientist endocrinologist and author… the leading expert of the study of stress and its affect on the body… said his life goal was to earn his neighbors love… He understood that one of the leading ways to clear stress out of ones life is to serve and love others… and part of that was to raise people up. He uses the example of self esteem is wanting to give yourself away. Like a farmer who only has so many seeds, if he hordes them they will rot and he cannot possibly tap the potential of all those seeds. But if he gives them away to others who can also plant them, he has now multiplied himself and his gifts and talents. These people will add nuances, ideas, fertilizer, different climates… all leading to greater and greater and more thriving gifts and talents out there. And guess what… you will not only enjoy portions of their harvest, but you will enjoy simply watching others grow seeds you passed along to them. You will get so much more in return than just other seeds and goods, you will see a legacy grow and truly feel and understand your value as a creation of Christ. Philippians 2:6–7 6 pwho, though he was in qthe form of God, did not count equality with God ra thing to be grasped,17 but semptied himself, by taking the form of a tservant,2ubeing born in the likeness of men. That language is so important. Paul defined the kenosis, or self-emptying, by using the word “slave.” All the way down, Jesus was the One who was face-to-face with God, pros ton theon, as it says in the gospel of John. Then, He prayed in John 17 to be restored to that pros ton theon, face-to-face with God, because He had made a slave of Himself, voluntarily submitting to the will of the Father and the power of the Holy Spirit. One of our fundamental flaws as humans especially if we call ourselves Christians… is that of not wanting to serve or slave for Jesus but just the opposite and wanting to be served by everyone INCLUDING JESUS. But if you don't give yourself away in service to others for God, by God and in Gods love YOU WILL NEVER FIND YOURSELF. YOU WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER KNOW HOW VALUABLE YOU ARE - you will never feel it down in your soul, your bones… You might think I am arrogant and egotistical… I can be… but most of the time you are simply picking up on me in the cradle of Gods value and love… that I have learned by serving others. Whats the secret to an unshakeable self love and self esteem? The secret is serving others.

Welcome to your Daily Detroit for Thursday, June 20, 2024! Jer and Devon dive into a packed episode covering everything from new local spots to major news impacting the region. First, Devon shares his excitement about Elephant and Company, a new venture by Eastern Market Brewing Company in Midtown. The spot offers coffee, vegan donuts by Duped Donuts, and soon, self-serve taps for beer. Devon also introduces us to Jarvis, Michigan's only robot barista. Next, they discuss The Lone Goat, a British pub in the Metropolitan Building, offering an authentic atmosphere with traditional British ales, lagers, and hearty pub food. It's a new favorite for Devon, who appreciates the unique selection of beers and the cozy ambiance. The conversation then shifts to the aftermath of a severe storm that left 40,000 people without power. On the business front, they talk about Stellantis' major cost-cutting measures, which could result in significant job losses at their North American headquarters in Auburn Hills. The discussion touches on the company's lag in EV and hybrid technology, the possibility of a downtown Detroit headquarters, and their seemingly lesser civic presence compared to Ford and GM. Lastly, they tackle a contentious issue: The potential blocking of over $2 billion for housing, public transit and projects by two progressive Democrats in the Michigan state legislatue.
