We're examining the fan favorite Area 7, aka the Chozo Laboratory, and breaking it down in great detail! We're back to finish off the journey we started last week with Volume 1 of the Metroid Manga! Volume 2 picks up right where the last one left off and makes some...interesting decisions. Hear our thoughts on things like Adam's characterization towards Samus, if that ending was enough to undo the whole story thus far, Samus suffering from PTSD (and how that same scene later resurfaced in Other M), the fights against Ridley and the rest of the Space Pirates, how much DNA funny business is too much, and Grey Voice the Chozo's character arc! Come tune in to this nearly TWO HOUR episode that offers the most in-depth analysis of the Metroid Manga ever done and be sure to let us know your thought over on Discord! We are back once again to thorough analyze a Metroid area in our ongoing Mapping Metroid series, and this week, we return to Metroid Dread to talk the fallen Chozo city of Ferenia! We talk about our favorite rooms in the area, what sets Ferenia apart from other Dread locales, if the story told in that cutscene was effective or a stinker, argue about the music found within, discuss Escue and the Core-X, and describe some of our favorite Shinespark puzzles found within! All this, PLUS we spend a bunch of time discussing the Metroid Dread sales figures, Mercury Steam CEO's comments about a "non-chaotic working environment", the new Super Metroid any% world speedrunning record, and our own stories of speedrunning Metroid Dread's Boss Rush mode! Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we complete our series on Metroid Prime. We discuss the visor modes, the pleasing arc of the end game, and other topics before we turn to our takeaways. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Finished the game! Issues covered: the face of the Metroid Prime core, reflecting the art of Samus in the environment or creatures, seventeen films in five and a half days, vision modes in games, using vision modes for boss fights and other uses, what is that sound you're hearing?, scanning to get the riddles, using this as a blueprint to figure out other things to do, using the Chozo descriptions to find the artifacts, having the sense of empowerment returning to the areas, not needing to move the goalposts, the toppled tower and other setpieces, a game about seeing, scanning the totems as an unlock, the prophecy of the chosen/Chozo one, where these games connect together, Omega Pirate adding visors to combat, love/hate and the Ridley battle, those Switch joy-cons, learning the pattern recognition, not being sure where your collision ends, finding depth in the movement system, having a final boss that's a little easier, Tim totally misses me saying "that's how we roll" in our Metroid series, translating into a new genre and going their own way, excellent art direction, making the 3D work, the importance of craftmanship, the controller matters, making a business model choice. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Mark Haigh-Hutchison, Marvel (film series), Star Wars, Republic Commando, Mortal Kombat (series), Arkham (series), Assassin's Creed (series), Dr. Who, Morrowind, Halo, Eternal Darkness, Brad Furminger, Everybody Switch, Nintendo Labo, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. @GameAgentET (OGiH) and The Six Button Samurai are joined by the RetroFuturist himself, @Hoptimus (RFC) as the mighty remaster of Metroid Prime for Switch takes center stage, mutating into a heavy discussion centering on the games of 2001-2005, an era in which there was also a very heated console race between Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. But unlike now, there was a lot of fear that 2D pixel art would disappear altogether, a fact that left many Metroid fans a bit suspicious (if not outright hostile) about Samus taking her bounty hunting into the third dimension. We also take some time to discuss other titles we dearly miss from that generation. Hello, kaiju lovers! Nate has been waiting for this Ameri-kaiju episode for a long time—he gets to discuss one of his favorite films: Pacific Rim! He's joined by the three co-hosts of The Drift Space podcast—returning guests Jack “GMan” Hudgens and J.R. Viller, plus Jack's sister, Rebecca—to gush about how much they love it. Guillermo del Toro's masterful tribute to both tokusatsu and anime is a movie that is unabashedly itself with its archetypal but strong characters, incredible worldbuilding, and mind-blowing special effects. But beneath the beyond-cool chassis beats the heart of a grossly underestimated story of surprising depth. If you don't already love Pacific Rim, Nate and the Drifters will change your mind! Beforehand, Nate discovers data files for an abandoned ad campaign for an unknown kaiju named “Chimera.” After the broadcast, as you undoubtedly heard, a mysterious kaiju attacked the Island but was killed by the Drifters in their Jaeger, Bouncing Betty. Nate's live broadcast of that battle is included here. The prologue and epilogue, “Chimera,” was written by Nathan Marchand. Additional music: “Cradle of the Chozo” by prophetic music “Pacific Rim” by Niall Stenson “Chant My Name!” by Masaaki Endo “Feel Sound – Cinematic Adventure” | Music promoted by MAGIC SOUND® Sound effects sourced from Freesound.org, including those by InspectorJ. Zapraszamy, odpowiedzi mogą Was zaskoczyć. METROID DREAD is the first 2D sidescrolling game in the iconic series in almost 20 years, which continues directly on from the 2002 title METROID FUSION for the Gameboy Advance. Games journalist Chantelle McColl (GamesHub, Byteside) and METROID series veteran joins Mainstream to share her thoughts on the game. A challenging entry into the series with lots of new features, there is plenty here to love, but some challenging controls and old fashioned legacy design in parts might leave some new players scratching their heads. SIFTER is produced by Scott Quigg, Sarah Ireland, Fiona Bartholomaeus, Daniel Ang & Adam Christou. Mitch Loh is our Senior Producer, Gianni Di Giovanni is our Executive Producer. Brian Fairbanks from Salty Dog Sounds composed the Mainstream theme music. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Metroid: Dread eve is here, but the crew can't sleep so they crack open an old story to make it through the night. The origin of Metroid's protagonist, Samus Aran, never before told. From her traumatic childhood all the way up to her Zero Mission, this manga shows the life and times of the normally silent bounty hunter as she trained with the Chozo. Except Ridley, he talks a lot. Mostly about eating people. And being a jerk. This week, Matt, Sam, and Jacob read and discuss Metroid by Kenji Ishikawa.Read along, meme along, or just yell at our bad opinions by following @OverMangaCast on Twitter.YouTube / Instagram / Facebook Leave a review: Podchaser
Você pode jogar Metroid Dread sem conhecer o passado trágico da Samus Aran, pode ignorar as desventuras tecnológicas dos Chozo em bioengenharia e até mesmo não se importar com os passos pra lá de suspeitos da Federação Galáctica. THE YEAR IS 20X5 IN THE HISTORY OF THE COSMOS. The unknown life-form code-named “METROID” discovered by the GALACTIC FEDERATION on Planet SR388 has been stolen by SPACE PIRATES. The greatest of all the space hunters, SAMUS ARAN, has been sent on a one-man mission to penetrate the SPACE PIRATE base on planet ZEBES and destroy METROID before it is transformed into a WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION. Even with his robotic SUPERPOWERS and SPACE SUIT, will he be able to save the galaxy? Meanwhile, in another timeline… The year is 20X5 of the Cosmic Calendar. Space Pirates have seized samples of the incredibly dangerous life-form “Metroid” discovered by the Galactic Federation on planet SR388. In their hands, Metroid could destroy all of galactic civilization. Only the greatest bounty hunter, Samus Aran, is able to penetrate the Space Pirate base on Planet Zebes, her homeworld, once populated by the enigmatic Chozo. Can this one-woman army defeat the Space Pirates, destroy Metroid, and save the galaxy? Thank you to James Shuar, @luministmusic for allowing us to use his music in the intro and outro!

Come here us talk about all things Chozodia: the stealth segments and what we liked and didn't like about exploring Ridley's ship in the Zero Suit, all the crazy Shinespark segments you need to pull off to acquire energy tanks, the wacky boss fight with the Chozo's Final Test, the spirituality behind Samus's Power Suit, the way-too-bombastic music, and so much more!Come give it a listen and keep the suggestions coming for the next Mapping Metroid segment! We love a good mystery, and for over 30 years there's been no bigger mystery to Metroid fans than that of the Chozo! What happened to these guys, and where are they? The Chozo Memories in Samus Returns give us a bit of a clearer picture (maybe), so we break them down and theorize on the events depicted in the memories, and the origins and very nature of Samus herself! Come theorize with us!All this, plus some followup from last weeks Ridley debate, and hey - Retro Studios has hired some people! Lawerence has completed his playthrough of Metroid II: Return of Samus. He joins Neil (@neilbigdeal) to discuss the best way to defeat the Metroid queen, what aeion energy is, and how the Chozo left their mess for Samus to clean up. This is an [Expert] level episode, which means some parts of the discussion may not make sense unless you’ve played the game. Expect lots of spoilers.
Lawerence is playing through Metroid II: Return of Samus for the first time in over a decade with one goal in mind: finish the game this time around. Neil (@neilbigdeal) explains why Samus finds herself on Planet SR388, why the planet is so significant to the Metroid species, and the ultimate folly of the Chozo people. This is an [Easy] level episode, which means you will be able to follow the discussion even if you haven’t played the game. Expect spoilers.

In this Bonus Episode, coming just over a year after the release of "Child of the Chozo", Will looks back on his Metroid homage album and discusses the making of, and breaks down each track. If you're a fan of Metroid music, you'll get a kick out of this deep-space musical exploration. 09/30/15
The time has come for another Bonus Episode! This time we listen to Will's new Metroid Tribute album Child of the Chozo in its entirety. This album can be thought of as 3 separate soundtracks to lost Metroid games throughout the years because it has 8-bit, 16-bit, and modern sounding pieces. Sit back and Enjoy! 09/24/14

Conker, G-tech, and Morgil try and discuss important video game subjects, but end up talking about Pokemon and Leave it to Beaver instead.
Go ahead and take a listen to our first episode. It's a bit of a trial run, feeling out the territory and exploring what works and what doesn't. The topic is Video Game Peripherals. We talk about what's come and gone, and what's still to come. We also christen this maiden voyage by sharing our own Save File Stories™ and having some technical problems as always.
We talked about all the big games and announcements at Tokyo Game Show 2008 and Nintendo's press conference, the latest polls, and more. Oh, and I unleashed my inner rock star too.
My first time hosting the podcast and it's... something. In this episode, we talk about everything from yoai to slapping $#!+. Oh, and we talk about gamers too.
We look at the strengths and weaknesses of the Big 3 at this year's E3. We also touch a little bit on EPIC PHAIL and afterwards we just went to www.engrish.com.
What games can you expect to see news from at E3? Listen to our panel of experts and find out! Then go to IGN and read what we are reading on the air! Also, once again the end of the show has been lost due to tech issues.
We all feel good when we finish a game: but why? I don't know. And after listening to this show, you still won't know yourself. However, I missed out on one little story I wanted to add because I wasn't organized last night: One instance in which I feel rewarded is when you beat someone. A human opponent. Very frequently, Plant and I duke it out, and I tend to win only by lag in my favor. However, he sets the bar somewhere high enough that it is a challenge, but somewhere I feel like I can reach. For being my Brawl Buddy, I award him a My Big Golden Cup.
Is cheating wrong? Yes! But wait, what's cheating? Is using a GameShark unfair, even though it only messes up your own game? Is snaking really a strange technique? And does picking Mewtwo count as cheating, or can we all agree no legends? Listen in and find out!
Ah, a returning favorite! We did another music special. Last time, we looked at story elements and some really "cool" songs. This time, we went with a lot of fun songs and recurring tunes. The evolution of themes through remixing and the use of background music that many take for granted. We also had an unreal turnout. Record-setting, really. I think this was a sign that we got something good here! The best part: A lot of the members chatting weren't even from CS. We had folks from the Spinning Stream and Myth-Weavers come by, so there was a mix we aren't all familiar with. Fantastic!
Week 11 featured a lively discussion on the evolution of games as series and how the market affects them. However, technical difficulties prevented me from recording all of it, so the second half of the show dies. Nova won the My Big Gold Cup and the Question of the Week we never got to. We did, however, fit a couple awkward silences here and there...
Week 10 featured all kinds of interesting points that ultimately broke no new ground. Or did it? We discussed RPGs, what makes an RPG an actual RPG, and what makes them good games.
Week 9's discussion was one of what will hopefully become an ongoing series of "Music Discussion". We played some tunes, sang some songs, and slit some throats. Fun was had by all and we announced a couple important updates as well. The biggest update? Every week I give out an award to someone who hath done good. This week's winner of the "My Big Gold Cup" is announced in the podcast. You gotta listen to find out!
Week 8 was a very intriguing delve into the world of art and video games. Really, you just gotta listen to how deep we got, before falling back on old jokes and distractions. Ah, yeah.
This week we are joined by G-Tech, Dark Paladin, and Qantravon. We discussed non-gamers, games in the media, and Dungeons and Dragons. The question of the week was: "What is the extent of your non-game collection?" Answers varied not only by what we had, but what our definition of a "non-game" is.
Blackskullgreymon and The Windmill Hut's Nova team up and host a Brawl themed 'cast. Also, the producer "speaks"! Truly EPIC! This Super Smash Brothers Brawl special show was so huge, it needed a dual-layer technology that completely obliterates most Wiis! This special is actually 3 times as long as any of the previous version! We never hit a dry spot! I never even had to edit!
This was a fun week because we had the highest turnout for live listeners, yet! Count 'em, 12! While we wasted a lot of time on the whole sound-effects/brainstorming for next week/dead silence, the first five minutes are stellar, and just imagine what would have happened if we had more than just BSGM and G-Tech talking! Come on by, friends, and send in your ideas for topics. And BSGM and G-Tech pwn you.
The topic was "The Best of 2007", and how disappointing 2008 will be unless aliens invade and bring their new games with them.
The topic was "Multiplayer Games", and it didn't work out. I cut out about 30 minutes static, pure silence, and discussion of pictures that you can't see since you are listeners. What do we have left? Something par! Hopefully next week we will have substance! Yay!
