We dive deep in today's episode, Asher starting us off with his thoughts and feelings on Metroid Prime 4, followed by looking over Hideaki Anno's (Evangelion) thoughts and words about not wanting Western and foreign influences over anime and its creatives, Netflix and Mappa's new partnership, and how different audiences are reviewing the new Jujustu Kaisen season.
Definitive Ranking returns! This time around, we're putting a bow on our dedicated coverage of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and we are going out with a bang. We cover the good, the bad, and the ugly; the breathtaking graphics, the horrific story, the rock solid gameplay, the divisive level design, the soundtrack and if it hits, and so much more! Come play along, and as always, here's the criteria for the Definitive Rankings: World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood) Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general) Story (what works, what doesn't) Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?) Gameplay / “Gimmick” (what new or different gameplay aspects we like) Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical) Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.) Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.) Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?) Music (are we humming along?) Of course, all of these are subjective, and we're putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Bluesky! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! We are back and continuing the discussion around Metroid Prime 4 this week, and tackling one of the most contentious aspects of the game: the areas! We discuss the pros and cons of each locale, debate whether it's better for an area to try new things and fail or retread old ground and be fine, and end up definitively ranking them at the end. Sol Valley is definitely a hot topic, so you'll want to weigh in with your thoughts! All this, PLUS some discussion about Wal-Mart's leaked Metroid Prime 2 NSO advertisement and when we could realistically see Echoes on Nintendo Classics. Come hang out! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! In today's Daily Fix:Nintendo's latest financial results show a mixed bag of results for the Switch 2. Kirby Air Riders, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Mario Kart World are selling in the millions, but notably missing is Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The game was not listed in either the Switch or Switch 2 million-seller lists, however it's possible that combined sales across Switch platforms could total one million or more. The game had a rocky development history, being delayed several years and changing dev teams. In other sales news, Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed did not meet sales expectations, and the company has announced they don't have any plans for The Outer Worlds 3 (but will continue exploring the world of Eora, the setting for Avowed and Pillars of Eternity). And finally, February's Game Pass line up has been revealed, with High on Life landing day one on the service.

We're starting 2026 off with a bang by discussing Nintendo's recent interview with Fasmitsu about Metroid Prime 4! Translated by our pals over at Shinesparkers, this interview with the unnamed developer touches on multiple topics, including the premise of the game and the intent for Sylux to be a major player, the placement of Beyond in the Metroid timeline, the challenges of restarting development, how Sol Valley and Vi-O-La came to be, what influence Breath of the Wild had on development, and the rationale behind that controversial ending. We are giving our thoughts and reactions, saying what we sympathize with and what offends us about these answers. All this, PLUS we're talking about what we want to see from the Metroid series in 2026! Beyond DLC, Metroid 6, Vi-O-La in Mario Kart, and more! Come hang out! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! Is Metroid Prime 4 Worth It for the Busy Gamer? Date: January 4, 2026 Podcast: Comm Talk by Geek Devotions Series: Everyday Gamer's Review Episode Summary Since 2007, gamers have been waiting for Metroid Prime 4. In this inaugural "Everyday Gamer Review," we look at this massive release from the perspective of a busy person with a day job and a backlog. We dive into the "beautiful visualizations" of the maps, the transition of the classic Metroidvania style into a first-person shooter, and whether the game's systems are too complicated for someone with only a few hours a week to play. We also tackle common community complaints regarding "bland" maps and the notorious scanning mechanic to see if they truly hinder the experience. But does it feel like a game from 2025 or 2015? Plus, Plante finally played the pseudo-metroidvania Ooo and can't wait to tell you about this short, but sweet treat. We're joined this week by Brandon Sheffield — director at Necrosoft Games and cohost of the fantastic Insert credit podcast — for a conversation about making games, making Demonschool specifically, and making a version of Rorschach who is somehow even worse than the original. Afterwards, we have a conversation about the highs and lows of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a game we are deeply conflicted about.Discussed: Demonschool, Metroid Prime 4: BeyondFind us everywhere: https://intothecast.onlineBuy some merch, if you'd like: https://shop.intothecast.onlineJoin the Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/intothecast---Follow Stephen Hilger: https://bsky.app/profile/stephenhilger.bsky.social Follow Brendon Bigley: https://bsky.app/profile/bb.wavelengths.onlineProduced by AJ Fillari: https://bsky.app/profile/ajfillari.bsky.social---Season 8 cover art by Scout Wilkinson: https://scoutwilkinson.myportfolio.com/Theme song by Will LaPorte: https://ghostdown.online/---Timecodes:(00:00) - Intro (00:14) - Demonschool | Brandon Sheffield is here! After eight long years of waiting, it's finally here: Episode 528 of Filthy Casuals. Did I make a similar joke the other week? I can't remember and I'm too busy to check because I've been sinking a lot of time into Metroid Prime 4 Beyond. Does this long-awaited sequel live up to expectations? Are the NPC companions as annoying as the initial reports would have you believe? Is it fun to drive around the desert on a motorbike? We answer all of these questions as well as chatting about the future of Yacht Club Games and thinking about movies that Hideo Kojima could cameo in. Hosted on Acast. After stepping inside Samus's visor for the first time in years, Ben and Polygon's Giovanni Colantonio compare notes on the much-anticipated ‘Metroid Prime 4: Beyond,' a great game grafted onto parts of other, less-good games. In their spoiler-lite chat, they puzzle over the game's discordant elements, praise its strengths, and analyze how it fits into the franchise's lineage before assessing the Switch 2's launch-window lineup now that Nintendo has released its last title of 2025. Then Jessica Clemons joins Ben to discuss their impressions of a new beat-'em-up brawler, ‘Marvel Cosmic Invasion,' and a new video game movie that's been beaten up by critics, ‘Five Nights at Freddy's 2.'
