Today we're going to pick apart a couple of Cirrus crashes, but not just any cirrus crashes. These are serious fatal accidents. In each case, the accident aircraft had a pilot plus 2 passengers.  And the reason Max and I are talking about these In particular, is because ATC played an interesting part in each one. Not necessarily a causal one, as we'll see from the NTSB reports, but the interactions with ATC were key in one way or another in the events leading up to the occurrence. And that's, of course, where our worlds overlap! Max Trescott is a fulltime flight instructor. He started flying at age 15 and finished his pilot certificate in college. He has degrees in Electrical Engineering, Psychology, and a MBA. He spent 25 years working in sales and marketing for Hewlett-Packard. In 2004 he left HP and he now devotes full time to teaching flying, writing, and giving speeches and seminars. He's written two books, including Max Trescott's G1000 Glass Cockpit Handbook, now in its fifth edition.  He holds an ATP certificate for all four airplane categories. Max specializes in teaching in Cirrus Aircraft and a week ago he finished his type-rated in the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet. In 2008, he was named by the FAA as the National Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year to represent the 96,000 flight instructors in the U.S. He has a weekly podcast focused on General Aviation in which he shares GA news from around the world plus pilot skills and safety tips. Bonjour et bienvenue dans les 31ème épisode de ce podcast !Cette semaine, nous allons discuter d’un sujet orienté vers la conception et la construction aéronautique avec notre invité Thomas. Thomas est le secrétaire de l’association Replic’Air située dans la région Toulousaine. L’objectif de l’association est de construire des répliques d’avions historiques.Le premier projet de l’association a été de construire un Morane-Saulnier type G afin de reproduire la première traversée de la Méditerranée effectuée par Roland Garros en 1913. Une fois ce projet réussi, ils se sont lancés dans la construction d’un Dewoitine D551. Ce chasseur Français a été conçu et construit au début de la seconde guerre mondiale mais n’a jamais pu voler à cause de l’armistice.Nous discuterons de ces deux projets exceptionnels en allant en détail sur les aspects de recherche documentaire, de conception et de construction.ActualitésL’actualité de la semaine est l’annonce de la nouvelle version du Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet nommée G2. Nous avons discuté précédemment de la première version de cet avion exceptionnel mais cette nouvelle version apporte un lot intéressant d’améliorations.Image : Un avion magnifique !La plus grosse amélioration est la certification RVSM. Nous discutons en détail des implications de cette certification. Grace à cela, l’autonomie du SF50 a pu être augmentée de 20% pour atteindre 1200 nautiques.Image : De nombreuses améliorations en cabine également !Image : Zones critiques RVSM sur A320De nombreuses autres améliorations ont été apportées à l’avionique. Des nouveaux calculateurs plus performants ont été ajoutés à la suite avionique. La nouvelle fonctionnalité la plus intéressante au niveau de l’avionique est l’ajout de l’auto-manette. Cette fonctionnalité permet à l’auto-pilote de gérer automatiquement la puissance des moteurs. Flyings IFR STARS or Arrival Procedures91 Max talks in detail about IFR Arrival Procedures, also called STARs. These are ATC-coded IFR route for IFR aircraft flying to a specific airport. There are different kinds of clearances you can get on an Arrival. If you're cleared to “descend VIA” an Arrival, then you can descend at pilot discretion to reach all of the published altitudes for each fix. Some key takeaways for pilots should be: 1. Read the Arrival charts ahead of time to find all altitude and speed restrictions. 2. Don’t descend automatically on an Arrival unless you been issued a Descend Via clearance by ATC. 3. If you’re not able to make a speed or altitude crossing restriction, notify ATC as soon as possible. 4. When loading an Arrival into your GPS, be aware that you may have to load a transition, even if you’re not flying on a transition, but have been cleared directly to the fix for which the Arrival procedure is named. 5. Use the FLC or IAS mode on the autopilot to meet speed restriction while descending. Today we’re going to pick apart a couple of Cirrus crashes, but not just any cirrus crashes. These are serious fatal accidents. In each case, the accident aircraft had a pilot plus 2 passengers.  And the reason Max and I are talking about these In particular, is because ATC played an interesting part in each one. Not necessarily a causal one, as we’ll see from the NTSB reports, but the interactions with ATC were key in one way or another in the events leading up to the occurrence. And that’s, of course, where our worlds overlap!Max Trescott is a fulltime flight instructor. He started flying at age 15 and finished his pilot certificate in college. He has degrees in Electrical Engineering, Psychology, and a MBA. He spent 25 years working in sales and marketing for Hewlett-Packard.In 2004 he left HP and he now devotes full time to teaching flying, writing, and giving speeches and seminars. He’s written two books, including Max Trescott’s G1000 Glass Cockpit Handbook, now in its fifth edition.  He holds an ATP certificate for all four airplane categories.Max specializes in teaching in Cirrus Aircraft and a week ago he finished his type-rated in the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet. In 2008, he was named by the FAA as the National Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year to represent the 96,000 flight instructors in the U.S.He has a weekly podcast focused on General Aviation in which he shares GA news from around the world plus pilot skills and safety tips. Il s'agit d'un aspect fortement saisonnier de l'aviation mais il s'agit aussi d'un composant opérationnel essentiel afin de maintenir les opérations lors des périodes hivernales.En introduction, je présente notre invité de la semaine, Simon. Simon est le directeur des opérations d'une société de dégivrage présente sur l'aéroport de Genève. Après un parcours professionnel diversifié, il a trouvé un emploi dans le dégivrage en tant que dégivreur et a gravi les échelons au fur et à mesure afin d'atteindre le poste qu'il occupe aujourd'hui.ActualitésLa première actualité de la semaine est la première livraison du nouvel avion régional d'Embraer, l'E190 E2. Cet avion est la première variante d'une nouvelle génération d'avions régionaux qui succède aux Embraer 170 et 190.Cette nouvelle variante propose une aile améliorée, des commandes de vol fly-by-wire et également une nouvelle motorisation. La motorisation choisie par Embraer est le Pratt & Whitney PW1000G qui est la même motorisation que le C-Series dont nous avons parlé lors de l'épisode 6. L'Embraer 190E2 est capable d'emporter 132 passagers en configuration mono-classe sur une distance franchissable de 2880 nautiques soit 5300 kilomètres.Image : L'Embraer 190E2Deux autres variantes sont prévus : l'E175 E2 et l'E195E2. L'E175 E2 est une version raccourcie avec une capacité de 88 passagers et une portée de 3800 kilomètres. Il sera donc intéressant de voir le succès que rencontreront ces nouveaux avions régionaux avec des compétiteurs aussi bien établis.La seconde actualité de la semaine est l'attribution du trophée Collier au Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet. Le trophée Collier est une récompense prestigieuse décernée chaque année par l'association aéronautique nationale américaine aux projets représentant la plus grande avancée aéronautique ou aérospatiale de l'année.Le SF50 est un produit totalement nouveau dans la gamme de produits de Cirrus. Il s'agit d'un jet mono-turbine équipé d'un parachute de cellule. Le parachute de cellule est une innovation particulièrement majeur et a permis de sauver de nombreuses vies. La vidéo suivante montre un déploiement de ce système dans le cas d'une panne d'essence au-dessus du Pacifique.Vidéo : Activation du parachute de cellule d'un SR22La clientèle visée par le Vision Jet est clairement celle des pilotes propriétaires grâce à sa certification mono-pilote. Pour débuter cette interview, il nous présente son parcours.Ensuite, nous discutons en détail des raisons pour lesquelles les avions sont dégivrés mais aussi des techniques utilisées pour cette opération. Nous donnerons également quelques conseils pour les personnes qui seraient intéressées pour travailler à l'aéroport dans ce type d'opération.
