After realizing that a manual gear extension will not work, Marc must resort to creative thinking – and the help of a Swiss Army knife – to get the gear down.

But this story doesn't end there— in addition to survivors' testimonies of their bravery and resilience, crew members reported seeing ghostly apparitions of the flight's crew on other Eastern AirLines aircraft. In this episode, a Cessna aircraft is coming in for landing at Orlando Executive Airport (KORL), when the tower hears some commotion over the radio. The landing gear has collapsed on the Cessna and the plane becomes disabled on the runway. The pilot exits the plane and lets the tower know he is okay. In this episode, we go to SFO where Delta flight 1195 is coming in for landing, when the pilot requests to go around due to landing gear issues. After running their checklists, the pilot declares an emergency due to the landing gear problems. These precautions pay off, and the aircraft lands safely in San Francisco, before taxiing to the gate for inspection of the plane. In our longest episode yet, we review "Portrait in Death"!! This book starts out very good for Eve with Summerset getting ready to leave for a two week vacation. Then it goes to shit really quickly for Eve when Summerset falls down the stairs and breaks his leg, then when Eve is dealing with that, Nadine calls her and tells her that there has been a murder. Eve goes to investigate the murder, which is a creepy one where the killer is killing college students then posing them and taking photos of them after death. But we quickly find out that really, this book is not about the murder. This is one of those "In Death" books where the personal stuff happening with the characters...in this case Roarke... is really what the book is about and the murders are just a side story. In this book, if things get bad for Eve, they get even worse for Roarke. Because he meets Moira O'Bannion who tells him that the woman who Roarke thought was his mother (Meg Roarke) was actually not his mother. His real mother was a woman named "Siobhan Brody." He doesn't believe it until he locks himself into his secret office and looked up information on his unregistered computer and finds that yes, in fact, Moira O'Bannion is correct. He handles this information VERY badly, is a dick to both Eve and Summerset, and we really dislike him for a bit. Later, he makes up with both Eve and Summerset, but pisses Eve off again by flying off to Ireland by himself to look into this information himself. He meets up with Brian Kelly, and they lean on one of Patrick Roarke's old friends until they get the truth of what happened to Siobhan Brody. Then Roarke and Brian get drunk together and that leads to this really amazing scene where Roarke drunk calls Eve. Back in New York, Eve and Feeney are having a beer, and Feeney tells Eve that regardless of what's going on with her current case, she should be in Ireland with Roarke. So, Eve drops everything and flies off to Ireland to support Roarke. Again, another really lovely scene with Roarke seeing a jet-copter flying through the mist to his Aunt's house and Eve stepping out. When Eve and Roarke fly back to New York, they are almost immediately thrown back into Eve's case when another dead body is found. This time, it's really emotional because the victim is Crack's sister. Just as they start to close in on the killer, the killer kidnaps poor Trueheart and there's a race to save him. This whole book is a LOT, but it's SO GOOD!! We hope you agree!!

Rolls Royce has started construction of the world's largest turbofan engine, called UltraFan. The 140-inch diameter fan of the engine is not only a record, but will help the engine achieve a 25 percent lower fuel burn than existing designs of similar thrust. Reduction gearing keeps blade tip velocities manageable and advanced digital twin technology tracks the history of each blade. NASA's Space Shuttle Main Engines were state of the art thirty years ago, and today, they're the basis for the upgraded power plants that will lift the Space Launch System to the moon. Modern technology at Aerojet Rocketdyne has reduced the manufacturing cost of the engines by 30 percent while increasing power. Additive manufacturing is making bigger and bigger parts today and SAFRAN has built an entire jet nose landing gear rough casting using an SLM process in titanium powder. The big part is 15 percent lighter than conventional forging and promises to change the way this critical part is made in the future. This aircraft was destined for the scrapheap, but because it is one of BA’s ‘retro jets’, Lima Yankee is painted in the iconic Landor livery, there was an enthusiastic campaign, which Top Landing Gear signed up to, to save it. Then the excellent news reached us that Mike Woodley of Aviation Filming at Dunsfold, had taken ownership. Mike kindly invited Top Landing Gear to be present on this auspicious occasion, where we caught up with BA 747 pilot Mags Sefari who was on the crew that delivered her that day, and a couple for whom Lima Yankee holds a particularly special place in their hearts. Landing without the starbord gear.

Listen to Matt and Andy repeatedly say LGCIU for 15 minutes!   The main components are two main landing gear with two wheels on each that retract inboard and one nose wheel gear with two wheels that retracts forwards.   The landing gear and the doors are electrically controlled and hydraulically operated. Landing Gear Control Interface units form a significant part of the A320. Because they are in charge sending landing gear position data to other aircraft systems, loss of both can have far reaching consequences. LGCIUs receive all this data from three sets of proximity sensors. The ones for the landing gear, the ones for the cargo doors and the ones for the flaps. So, for the landing gear, they receive information about when.... - The landing gears are locked down or up, or - The shock absorbers are compressed or extended, or - The landing gear doors are open, or closed, or - The bogie are aligned or not. From the cargo doors, they receive the position of the following components : The Manuel selector valves The Locking shaft The Locking handle and Safety shaft The LGCIUs detect electrical failures only those last three proximity switches, The Locking shaft, The Locking handle, and the Safety shaft. If an LGCIU detects one of these failures, it indicates the NON LOCKED condition for that component. Finally, the LANDING FLAPS INFORMATION. The LGCIUs receives the signals from four flap disconnect proximity switches,and then sends them on to the Slat/Flap Control Computers (SFCCs). The LGCIUs do not monitor failures in the SFCC system though. Gravity Gear extension actions GRAVITY GEAR EXTN .......................................... PULL AND TURN L/G lever...................................................................... DOWN GEAR DOWN indications (if available)...................... CHECK The biggest lesson to take away from this is, read all the checklist before you make an approach so you can go through all the notes, then leave the QRH open on this page ready for the approach so when PF calls for gear down, only the three items can be read and done.   max speed with landing gear extended...........280 kts max speed to extend the gear..........................250 kts max speed to retract the gear..........................220 kts Above 260 kts a safety valve automatically cuts off hydraulic supply.   Scenario of the week Think about what you would do if you had a 'gear not downlocked' and the gravity extension didnt work. Have a look at the QRH and come up with a plan of how you will organise and manage the situation. There's a lot to consider here and many of the decisions you make could have critical consequences.
