The unintentional sin offering. What was Israel to do if an anointed priest sinned? Or if the whole congregation sinned? Or if an elder, judge, prophet, king, chief musician, head of a tribe, or some other leader sinned? Or if a common person sinned?
In this message, Pastor Karl digs into the third and fourth parables of Matthew 13 — the Mustard Seed and the Leaven — and recovers an interpretation that the earliest church held for the first three centuries: these are not simply triumphant stories of kingdom growth, but diagnostic warnings about corruption quietly taking root within it.Using the memorable image of an unnaturally oversized Chihuahua, Pastor Karl challenges the assumption that bigger always means better — in culture, in church, and in personal faith. Just because something grows doesn't mean it's healthy. God designs everything with a DNA, and when growth outpaces its intended nature, something has gone wrong. From the Mustard Seed, the lesson is clear: a church that softens or reshapes Scripture to fit cultural comfort is one where corruption has found a home. Health — not size — is the measure that matters. From the Leaven, the warning cuts even deeper: what is hidden eventually spreads, and what spreads eventually shapes. Compromise never announces itself. It blends in, seeps slowly, and before long, convictions weaken, hunger for God fades, and obedience stalls.Pastor Karl closes with a pointed and personal call: audit your inputs, don't outgrow your obedience, and do serious business with the leaven you've allowed to stay too long.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm
What makes “the prayer of a righteous person” so effective? Dr. Michael Youssef points to Daniel's plea in Daniel 9:4–19 as a clear model for believers today—and then highlights the key components you can practice immediately. First, start with praise. Daniel doesn't rush into requests; he begins by magnifying God as “great and awesome,” faithful to His covenant of love (Daniel 9:4). Prayer isn't merely a tool to get what we want—it's fellowship with God, cultivating an intimate relationship through adoration and thanksgiving. Second, confess your sins. Daniel doesn't minimize Israel's guilt or make excuses. He owns it plainly: “we have sinned and done wrong… we have turned away” (Daniel 9:5). Dr. Youssef reminds us that honest confession isn't self-condemnation—it's God's pathway to restore us to the fullness of right relationship with Him. If you've felt stuck in prayer, distracted, or discouraged, this devotional will help you reset your approach: praise God for who He is, confess what He reveals, and pray from a heart that longs to be aligned with Him. Prayer: God, I want to praise You today for Your love and for the gift of salvation. Thank You for giving us Your Word to provide examples like Daniel for us to follow. Forgive my sins, my Redeemer. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Scripture Focus: “The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!” (Psalm 18:46). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. In this transparent and deeply personal episode, Bobby shares a recent failure in his own life and how God met him in Psalm 51. Through David's repentance, he unpacks the powerful truth that our sin does not permanently stain us when it is brought under the cleansing power of Christ. This episode calls listeners to stop covering sin, to embrace God's compassion, and to experience full restoration—not just forgiveness, but renewed joy, spirit, and usefulness. Topics Discussed Honest confession and leadership transparency The difference between justice-based mercy and covenant compassion The meaning of “wash me” and “whiter than snow” Why sin is not a permanent stain for the believer The significance of hyssop and the Passover connection The role of the blood of Christ in cleansing and restoration Renewing a right spirit vs. living in discouragement or bitterness Restoration of joy and usefulness after failure The danger of covering sin and living with a “twisted” spirit Responding to conviction like David vs. resisting like Saul Key Takeaways You are not permanently stained by your sin—God can make you “whiter than snow.” True repentance appeals to God's love and relationship, not your worthiness. Cleansing is not just positional—it restores your joy, spirit, and usefulness. Feeling dirty after confession is a faith issue, not a forgiveness issue. A wrong spirit after sin is part of the problem God wants to fix. Covering sin compounds damage; confession opens the door to restoration. God restores you so you can be fruitful again, not just forgiven. If you've been encouraged by this podcast, please take the time to give us a five-star rating and write a brief review. Dr. Best introduces this week's spiritual discipline, confession of sin. "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:8-9

This message clarifies that righteousness and forgiveness are not progressive or reversible, exposing how works-based thinking and gnostic influence distort the gospel and undermine assurance.
This message confronts the fear-based misuse of 1 John 1:9 and establishes forgiveness as a finished, past-tense reality for the believer, secured once for all by the cross of Christ.

Having ascribed glory to God, which is his due, Psalm 29:2 we must next take shame to ourselves, which is our due, and humble ourselves before him in the sense of our own sinfulness and vileness; and herein also we must give glory to him, Joshua 7:19 as our Judge, by whom we deserve to be condemned, and yet hope, through Christ, to be acquitted and absolved. In this part of our work, we must acknowledge the great reason we have to lie very low before God and to be ashamed of ourselves when we come into his presence and to be afraid of his wrath, having made ourselves both odious to his holiness and obnoxious to his justice.

Is there one of us who knows thoroughly what the evil of sin is? I do not think there is. If any one of us were to see the depravity of his own heart, he would lose his reason. Concealed within sin there lurks a measureless world of mischief; who can know it? Were it not that the infinite satisfaction resulting from the atoning sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ is ever present before the eye of the great God, He would at once ease Him of His adversaries, and sweep both sin and sinners out of the world.

Psalm 106 brings us to give thanks to God for His enduring steadfast love, shown to His people even in their sin. This psalm recounts both the LORD's mighty works for Israel and Israel's acts of rebellion. Israel's history is littered with their rebellious idolatry, all the way from Egypt through the wilderness and into the Promised Land. Nonetheless, the LORD gave them intercessors like Moses and Phineas along the way, and He saved His people in accordance with His promise. Because we are confident in the LORD's abundant mercy, we cry out to Him in confession of our own sins still today, knowing that He forgives us and saves us for the sake of Jesus. Rev. Doug Minton, pastor at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Milford, IL, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Psalm 106. "Psalms of Thanksgiving” is a series on Sharper Iron that looks to several psalms to help us give thanks to God. The LORD gives blessings to His whole creation, even all evil people. As we pray the psalms, He teaches us to receive all His gifts with thanksgiving, knowing that He is good and His steadfast love endures forever. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org
Sin breaks our relationship with God, and unconfessed sin creates a burden that we were never intended to carry. This burden puts a cap on our transformation and it prevents us from becoming like Christ. But confession is the bridge that connects us back to God.
