The government has abandoned its plans to house asylum seekers at the former Crown Paints plant in Coolock in Dublin. Colm Brophy, Minister of State for Migration, and Labour Party MEP Aodhan O'Riordan debate the U-turn.
RTE Eastern Correspondent Samantha Libreiri reports on the decision to not use the former Crown Paints factory in Coolock to accommodate asylum seekers.
Katie Blackwood, Historian in residence with Dublin City Council, hosted an afternoon of chat and memories in Coolock library last August. At the event, she spoke to people who had worked at the famous Cadbury's factory in Coolock. We'll hear from some of them and celebrate all things chocolate.
We go live to Ahmehrica for a look inside Joe's life as a theatre co-star in Washington DC.We learn of Benny Bowls and Crank hats, hear about Joe's attempts to appear unfazed by life on the mean streets of DC, and get a rundown of Joe's very rundown lodgings.Joe gets a serious scare while recording and tells us he suspects the ghosts of Coolock have travelled across the ocean with him (but it might just be his coat scaring him), and Darren reveals an updated impersonation that he's been working on.Send all of your questions and comments to stallit@goloudnow.com
Education Correspondent Emma O Kelly reports from St Joseph's school in the Coolock area of North Dublin five years on from the Covid-19 Pandemic shutting schools down.
It's finally happened, Joe has got his big break and he's off to join the theatre crowd as a part of a very high brow (and very, very serious) production. Somehow his explanation of this turn of events leads us to hear about a toupee with international consequences. Darren believes he has what it takes to become Ireland's number one celebrity impersonator, and Joe thinks Darren could become the national voice of the sliced pan. We hear about two interactions Darren had with Keith Duffy, and while the first interaction is a moment of great reflected celeb glory, the second is a brutal humiliation. We have a significant dinosaur update. The beast has found a home, too close to home, and Joe is wondering what long term impacts a dinosaur in Coolock might have on his life – from fighting with the neighbours about the beast in the front garden, to the children of the area being cursed with weekly visits to see the dinosaur, and even a potential backlash from the local youth. And Darren reveals a deep distress about discarded mattresses, from their smell to their potent threat to life. Send all of your comments and questions to stallit@goloudnow.com
Today's conversation is nothing short of incredible. I'm joined by David Gorman, a man who has completely transformed his life after years of struggle.David grew up in Coolock in a loving home with a happy childhood, but by 23, he had fallen into the grip of cocaine addiction—a battle that consumed the next five years of his life.At his lowest, David faced unimaginable hardship. He lost 30kg, endured drug-induced psychosis, accumulated €40,000 in debt, and struggled with suicidal thoughts. One night, he found himself sitting on a motorway, ready to end it all.Desperate for change, he moved to Denmark, but his addiction only deepened. It wasn't until he finally got clean and relocated to Sweden that his true recovery began. Now, 3.5 years sober, David has rebuilt his life in extraordinary ways.Today, he works as a supervisor at the very organization that once helped him, guiding young adults impacted by addiction. He's also built a thriving online coaching business, using his powerful story to inspire and support others on their own journeys to recovery. This conversation is raw, real, and a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Let's get into it.Follow David:Instagram Online Coaching Application Form Tik Tok Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Joe has received perhaps the strangest notification of his life - there's a giant dinosaur in a big wooden crate addressed to him waiting at Dublin Port. How did it get there? Why does he need to pay €350 to have it released? Would he get away with having in the front garden of his home in Coolock? We answer all of these questions.A listener sets a challenge, which Darren and Joe gladly accept - to take Stall It into the world of late night call in radio. There are some strange disturbing results. And Joe points out something to Darren that may very well ruin his wedding night.Send all of your questions and comments to stallit@goloudnow.com

//The Wire//2200Z August 16, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: VIOLENCE CONTINUES IN IRELAND. GAZA PEACE TALKS BEGIN. QUESTIONS MOUNT REGARDING DETAILS OF TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Ireland: Violence continues as a Priest was stabbed in a suspected terror attack yesterday evening. Fr. Paul Murphy was stabbed multiple times by an assailant at the Renmore Barracks in Galway, where he was conducting his duties as an Army Chaplain. He remains hospitalized with wounds not expected to be life threatening. Sentries at the barracks detained the attacker after the incident. AC: Local media reports that Fr. Murphy was wearing civilian attire at the time of the incident, possibly indicating this was a more targeted attack (though this remains speculative at this time).Throughout Ireland protests and demonstrations have remained regular and have become more organized. Thousands have protested in Dublin over the past few days, and demonstrations at the construction site of a migrant center in Coolock have increased in size as well.Middle East: Various diplomatic envoys state that yesterday's first round of Gaza peace talks concluded on a positive note. A joint American-Egyptian-Qatari statement on the peace talks indicated that “the road is paved” towards a ceasefire solution.-HomeFront-Pennsylvania: As the Congressional investigation into the attempted assassination of Donald Trump continues, many exceptionally suspicious details have come to light. Recently, Rep. Clay Higgins (a member of the Congressional Task Force to investigate the incident) released a preliminary report highlighting many discrepancies, including that the body of the alleged shooter, Mathew Crooks, is no longer available for examination due to being released by the FBI for cremation 10 days after the shooting.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: In the wake of the Trump assassination attempt (a mere 34 days ago), the details that have been released (or discovered) have increasingly pointed to nefarious intent by federal agencies, to some degree. At some point, the thousands of hours of content from experts on the matter must reach a consensus. For many, there is already enough evidence in the public sphere to indicate how much of this nearly-successful attack was the result of incompetence, and how much was deliberate negligence. What will be important to consider moving forward, is how serious American politics have become. Last week, Trump's plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Montana due to a mechanical issue. This afternoon, JD Vance's aircraft also made an emergency landing due to a door seal malfunction. Earlier this week, an incident involving Trump's Secret Service detail became public, in which a USSS agent not only abandoned her post at one of Trump's events minutes before his arrival, but also secretly allowed unauthorized persons into the heart of the secure area, even in the wake of the assassination attempt. In any other time, these data points would be easily chalked up to random problems, errors, or general complacency. However, considering the context of recent events it would be wise to account for other more nefarious possibilities. With events of this magnitude, and a machine with as many pieces, it is very unlikely for any one theory or idea to explain everything. Making decisions (and assessing risk) without all of the information is a reflection of the human condition itself; humans almost always have to make judgement calls without knowing the full story.Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//
At their best, the Olympics represent all that is good about humanity. For Ireland the Olympics brought an outpouring of spontaneous joy and happiness, at least until the homecoming parade. But the hate and fear that is being weaponised across Ireland and Britain won't be combated by two weeks in Paris. On Free State, Dion and Joe discuss the far right pogroms and what needs to be done to stop them. While communities have stood up for the marginalised, the Coolock Says No leaders are drinking with loyalist paramilitaries on Sandy Row. She told us about an incident that happened to her teenage daughter while waiting at a bus stop recently and says she is refusing to send her kids back to school in September because she is terrified of them being attacked by refugees...Mia, who was irate during the call, told us what she will do with her own "bare hands" and promises that no refugees will go into her area

//The Wire//2130Z July 24, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: PM NETANYAHU ADDRESSES CONGRESS AMID DEMONSTRATIONS. PRESIDENT BIDEN SCHEDULED TO ADDRESS THE NATION TONIGHT.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Europe: The situation regarding immigration continues to intensify following several recent events around the continent. In Ireland, the local resistance to a migrant center in Coolock has slowly been increasing over the past few months. A few days ago another potential site for a migrant center was burned down by locals who do not support illegal migrants being housed in their community. This latest event follows weeks of demonstrations and more kinetic events, such as the destruction of construction equipment. In the U.K. similar tensions have been building as PM Starmer has made the continuance of immigration a key part of his platform. AC: Increasingly numerous knife attacks, assaults, and otherwise violent behavior perpetrated by illegal migrants over the past few years has exacerbated tensions on the island nation. As such, in some of the more localized areas which have been forced to accept migrants into their communities, resistance to these efforts is mounting (resistance which is increasingly cracked-down on by authorities).-HomeFront-Washington D.C. – Preparation continues for President Biden's address to the nation tonight, as well as PM Netanyahu's address to Congress. Various groups of demonstrators protested the event, and limited fortifications and obstacles have been emplaced at strategic sites around the National Capitol Region (NCR). During PM Netanyahu's address, the demonstrations outside became more kinetic, and Capitol Police dispersed some of the larger groups. Also, 6x people were arrested for disruptive behavior in the Gallery.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Most of the demonstrators in Washington D.C. appear to have been bused in for the event. As with most high-profile political events such as Netanyahu's speech, the potential for information warfare is elevated. Though more analysis is needed in this specific case, events of this nature often result in protesters and counter-protesters that are in reality (mostly) paid activists funded by the same sources. This is worthy of note, as these events (ones that appear to be hosted by professional protesters) present a higher likelihood of both violence (on the part of the protesters) and entrapment (on the part of agitators). Generally speaking, the less organic a “protest” is, the higher the potential is for more wide-ranging impacts to be felt, even outside the original demonstration area.Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//

//The Wire//2230Z July 15, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: MANY DETAILS REMAIN IN QUESTION FOLLOWING ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION OF TRUMP. POWER OUTAGES CONTINUE IN TEXAS. CHINESE NAVAL DRILLS CONTINUE IN PACIFIC.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Far East: Chinese Naval drills continue. A few dozen aircraft incursions occurred within the Taiwan Strait over the weekend as PLAN exercises continue throughout the Pacific.Ireland: Unrest continues following months of increasing tensions brought upon by the establishment of migrant centers throughout the nation. Over the weekend protests intensified again in response to another migrant center being emplaced in Coolock.-HomeFront-Texas: Roughly 280,000 customers remain without power in the Houston area following the storm damage from Hurricane Beryl which made landfall last week. AC: So far at least 11 fatalities have been reported as a result of the hurricane, several of which were heat-related deaths.Pennsylvania: Details of the attempted assassination of President Trump remain under scrutiny, with many questions remaining with major details of the event. The shooter has been identified by authorities as Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. AC: In the fog of information warfare immediately after the shooting, several other names were also dropped on social media, prompting confusion for several hours as to the identity of the gunman. This morning, President Trump called on Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to receive enhanced Secret Service protection “in light of what is going on in the world today”.Wisconsin: Protests and demonstrations are underway in Milwaukee as the Republican National Convention begins. This morning thousands marched in opposition to Donald Trump becoming the nominee for the Republican party.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Some generations are faced with grand debates that define the era. This generation's question will undoubtedly be “incompetence or malice?”. The details of the attempted assassination of President Trump have already surpassed the exceptionally questionable details of Dealey Plaza, with the only collection of details holding back the open idea that this was a government-sanctioned incident being the gross incompetence displayed by most of the security professionals during this event. While the details of this assassination attempt will be debated for decades, the larger implications are exceptionally clear. This incident was without question intended to resolve differently than it did. Reflecting on what would have happened if the attack was a success, may be a rather sobering prospect but one which may offer operational benefit as the election inches closer.Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//
