Financial fitness is different for all of us as we all have different needs and dreams. The concern we feel about having sufficient money to meet our needs or fulfill our dreams can be emotionally taxing. Partner that with the absence of a financial education and it becomes a profit-driven boon for predatory financial institutions. Understanding the basics of investing, which companies have an honest track record, and how to get out of debt can be life-changing for many. To better understand the psychological effects of how finances affect our lives and relationships, Positive Psychology Podcast Host Lisa Cypers Kamen speaks with two investors/authors about how they overcame their early beliefs about what their financial outlook could be. Danielle Town describes how she overcame her emotional trauma surrounding money as detailed in her book, Invested. And, Remit Sethi discusses strategies on how to grow what you already have from the second edition of his book, I Will Teach You to Be Rich.

Alumni week continues as Bobbi and Invested author Danielle Town discuss the downfall of brick and mortar retail, including its latest casualty, Victoria's Secret. We kick off alumni week with best selling author and podcast host Danielle Town of InvestED, explaining why she believes the billionaire's track record has come under fire. She'll also identify and answer what the naysayers are getting wrong. Plus, we'll have an update on Danielle's projects and what life is like for her in Switzerland during the pandemic.

I can’t believe we’re already here but this is the last episode of 2019 and Season 9 of the Mo’ Money Podcast! And what better way to end it than with an episode all about value investing with New York Times bestselling author Danielle Town. Although I’ve done a ton of episodes on the podcast on investing, if you’re a long-time listener then you may have found that most of the guests I have on the show tend to say pretty much the same things: keep fees low, diversify and invest in low-cost index funds or index ETFs. Not Danielle! As a value investor following the path of Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger, she has an altogether different strategy for reaching financial indepence. Instead of buying investment products that replicate a broad market index, she believes in investing in just a few stocks strategically, buying low, holding on to them, then eventually selling them when they are priced high to earn a nice profit. There’s obviously quite a bit to know about value investing, and in my opinion, it is an advanced investment strategy that is not easily carried out. That being said, I find it incredibly fascinating and an important strategy to understand when learning about different ways to invest your money. I’m still a huge fan of indexing, but I’m not gonna lie, I’m definitely going to look more into doing some value investing for a small portion of my overall investment portfolio and see how things go. And luckily Danielle’s book breaks the strategy down in a very easy to understand way. For full episode show notes visit https://jessicamoorhouse.com/221

#134 In this episode, I chat with New York Times bestselling author, lawyer, and investor, Danielle Town, about the role of Money in our romantic relationships, the bad financial habits we pick up as kids, and how we have the power to change the way we look at wealth. If you're like me, you're probably investing in your retirement. But like me, many people are paying someone to manage these investments when they could be doing it themselves and saving a lot of money, with the added benefit of choosing directly what companies, and therefore what values, that money supports. Maybe you do this because you think you don't have what it takes to make these decisions on your own... much like my guest feared before she got the confidence to quit her job, take control of her money, and invest on her own terms! In this week's Five Good Questions, we're interviewing Danielle Town about her book Invested. Danielle Town is a New York Times bestselling author and corporate attorney who was afraid of stock markets until she realized she had been abdicating the power of her money and could create impactful generational wealth with an investing practice. She now invests and writes her newsletter, The Invested Practice, from Zurich, Switzerland. She wrote her book, Invested, with her investor father, Phil Town, with whom she also banters about value investing and life on their podcast, InvestED. Five Good Questions: 1. What kept you from learning about investing until you were in your mid-30s, despite having a dad who is a value investor? How did “voting with your money” draw you into learning about investing and help you overcome your fears? 2. I’ve long been fascinated by the “intangibles” of the investment process, like time management, mental and physical preparation, and environmental design. How did you curate your investment environment for success? 3. As a corporate attorney, you got a firsthand view of the asymmetry of information between what gets reported and what’s really happening in the messy world of business. How do you reconcile that in your analysis of a public company where that same asymmetry may exist? 4. Charlie Munger recently said, “If you have trouble finding good investments, join the club… my advice to the seeker of high compound interest is to reduce your expectations. Things are likely to be tough for a while.” My impression was that your dad might have piqued your interest in investing by showing you the magic of compounding returns. Do you think the returns of the last 20-30 years be available to us over the next 20-30 years? 5. How has your background in meditation helped you in investing? And make sure you pick up your copy of the Rebel Allocator, available now on Amazon in both digital and physical formats!

How do you take control of your money and start investing? Danielle Town had a famous dad in the investing world, Phil Town, and didn't want anything to do with her father....to the point that she didn't want to invest money the way he did. Instead, she decided to stick her money in a savings account and hopefully grow it. Today we're happy to have Phil Town with us, to discuss not only the biographical parts of the early book, but about getting brave with your money and learning how to invest. We'll ask about Dave Ramsey's 12% rule, investing like Warren Buffett, and more. In our headlines segment, we'll talk about one expert who has been repeatedly quoted by media outlets. How many times have we heard about what's going to happen to the economy next week according to the experts? As it turns out, one expert in particular has a big secret: he doesn't even exist. What's that all about? We'll dive into what it all means during our headlines. And in lieu of a second headline, we're taking an inside look into what Doug does when he's not on the mic... you might be a little surprised. Plus, we throw out the Haven Life line to Andy, who's wondering what he should do with his extra cash from his recently paid off mortgage. How should he invest his additional funds for a positive gain for further financial independence? Thanks to Honey for supporting Stacking Benjamins. Signup for FREE with joinhoney.com/SB
I get sent a lot of books to review for the podcast - some great, some just ok. I sat down with Danielle Town's new book on a Friday afternoon, Invested - How Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger Taught Me to Master My Mind, My Emotions & My Money (with a little help from my dad), and I couldn't put it down until I read every last word!On This Podcast Episode:I've had a lot of cool and interesting podcast interviews but this chat with Danielle takes the cake. Her book is all about this 12-month journey that she took with her dad & investing guru, Phil Town, on her journey to financial freedom. The best part, the book details how you and I can follow the exact same process that she went through.Naturally, I was excited to talk to Danielle about her journey, the struggles, and have her dish any great pearls of wisdom that you should know on your own investing journey. Today’s guest is Danielle Town, a New York Times best selling author as of two months ago! The funny thing is Danielle’s best selling book is about investing, a topic she admits she actively avoided her entire life. Her father, Phil Town, is a highly sought after speaker about investing and a New York Times best selling author in his own right. He wrote the book, “Rule #1,” years ago which made him a household name in the world of investing The interesting part is that Danielle was raised by one of America’s leading financial experts. But, it took her until adulthood to really want to master her finances and it’s when she realized that her Dad might have something important after all. Today we’ll be discussing her new book, Invested: How Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger Taught Me to Master My Mind, My Emotions, and My Money (with a Little Help from My Dad). A lot of you have been asking my recommendations for great books on investing. This is one of the newest and best to hit the market. Danielle and I explore her childhood. What was it about the friction between she and her dad that led to her avoidance of learning about investing? And what is she investing in now? It’s just ONE stock, I was shocked to learn. Growing up, the words finance, savings, and portfolio made my guest's eyes glaze over, and the thought of stocks and financial statements shut down her brain. The daughter of a successful investor and bestselling financial author, she spent most of her adult life avoiding investing - until she realized that her time-consuming career as lawyer was making her feel anything but in control of her life or her money. Determined to regain her freedom, vote for her values with her money, and deal with her fear of the unpredictable stock market, she turned to her father, to help her take charge of her life and her future through Warren Buffett-style value investing. Over the course of a year, my guest went from avoiding everything to do with the financial industrial complex to knowing exactly how and when to invest in wonderful companies. Danielle Town is a corporate startup attorney with a law degree from New York University. She cohosts the InvestEd podcast with her father, Phil Town, and together now they've written Invested: How Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger Taught Me to Master My Mind, My Emotions, and My Money (with a Little Help from My Dad) Here's my conversation with Danielle Town, author of Invested, in episode 323 of Informed Choice Radio.
Paying attention to your senses is a critical skill to learn for successful investing. Why? Because our senses pick up things that our minds haven't processed yet, often adding even more important information to our analysis. The father and daughter team of Phil and Danielle Town has mastered the skill of making big decisions in business and investing under tremendous stress by learning to trust their instincts. As a father, Phil has taught Danielle the importance of trusting yourself 100% when investing, rather than going along with what others are doing. As a daughter, Danielle has taught her father that the market doesn't have to be wrong for him to be right. Phil and Danielle share how to trust your instincts when investing, along with other time-tested investment lessons.
