We were shocked to discover that 1987's Adventures in Babysitting doesn't have a DVD or Blu Ray audio commentary. After interviewing screenwriter David Simkins in 2022, we asked if he would be willing to record an audio commentary for Adventures in Babysitting and, to our delight, he agreed to do it. In typical NWPP fashion, the recording didn't go exactly as planned. At roughly 6 minutes into the movie, the audio of the film can be heard during the commentary. We've done our best to reduce the film's audio track but it was impossible to totally remove it. We recommend turning the audio down on your TV or device, and let our audio take over. One other call out, we recorded the audio commentary watching the PG-13 version of the movie not the one on Disney+. Enough with the caveats. David shares funny and insightful behind-the-scenes stories and talks about how the movie came together including working with Debra Hill and Lynda Obst. We discuss the challenges of shooting both in Chicago and Canada. David talks about how the famous blues bar scene came together, casting Elizabeth Shue, working with Chris Columbus and how Sara's obsession with Thor came to be. It's We believe this is the only audio commentary available for Adventures in Babysitting. We can't thank David Simkins enough for agreeing to do this with us. We hope you enjoy.

As the most widely used green building rating system, the LEED certification process has recently published updated credit standards that help buildings save money and improve efficiency. However, the LEED 4.1 process isn't just about the end process, but how climate control strategies throughout the construction period can help guarantee the protection of materials in order to earn LEED-certification. So, why does maintaining indoor climate conditions matter? In this episode of Ideal Conditions, a Polygon podcast series, host and Marketing Director for Polygon, Deanna Talbot, speaks with Polygon's Director of Engineering and Technology, David Simkins, about the confluence of LEED 4.1 and climate control strategies. The two discuss:What LEED standards are connected to IAQ and climate controlHow Polygon's sensors provide early detection to allow for corrective action and the enhancement of indoor air qualityWhich climate control strategies could help clients earn credits for LEED certificationSimkins explained, “The other thing though, that we really want to get in place is basically a protection plan around the materials, and this is, in essence, moisture management, but we want to make sure that when the materials are coming into that building, we have the right climate for them so that we're maintaining those warranties…”David Simkins has over 30 years of experience in Engineering, Management, and Leadership. Simkins worked as an Engineer for six years before moving to Management, for a variety of companies, including Munters Corporation. He was a Member of the Board of Directors for Caption Data Limited and has been with Polygon for over 12 years. He is a graduate of Northeastern University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and holds two MBAs in Leadership and Business Administration, respectively, from Boston University. For a downloadable guide to these strategies, visit https://www.polygongroup.com/en-US/blog/5-interior-climate-control-strategies-for-achieving-leed-4.1-credits/
Deanna Talbot, the Director of Marketing at Polygon, introduces a panel of experts who discuss the importance of data and technology in creating healthy and energy-efficient buildings. The discussion is led by David Simkins, the Director of Engineering and Technology, and Frank Dobosz, the President of Polygon in the U.S.David reflects on the evolution of Polygon's technology over the past three decades, focusing on improving indoor climate control and leveraging new sensors in the indoor air quality market. He explains how the introduction of connected devices and IoT technology, specifically the fifth generation technology called "ExactAire E5," has enhanced Polygon's ability to provide real-time data on space conditions and offer wireless communication between sensors and the cloud. The panel emphasizes the significance of data in various industries. Regulatory compliance, such as monitoring CO2 levels and gas concentrations in food plants, drives the need for real-time access to actionable data. They highlight how real-time data is crucial not only in the food industry but also in areas like the coatings industry, construction industry, and building envelope specifications. The ability to measure temperature, humidity, and moisture content aids in documenting conditions and preventing issues like mold and mildew.Frank emphasizes the shift in the construction industry towards building healthier spaces and reducing energy consumption. He discusses how contractors are becoming more educated about managing indoor climates during construction processes, highlighting the importance of optimized humidity and temperature control. The use of engineered solutions and real-time data allows contractors to make informed decisions, order the right equipment, and minimize energy waste. The panel also addresses the broader impact of Polygon's technology on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. They emphasize how Polygon's focus on energy efficiency, healthy environments, and data-driven decision-making aligns with the triple bottom line concept of people, planet, and profits. By creating mutually beneficial solutions, Polygon aims to support clients in achieving profitability, ensuring the well-being of workers, and reducing the environmental impact of construction processes.Through their advanced sensors, real-time data analysis, and engineered solutions, Polygon aims to provide clients with optimal indoor climate control, regulatory compliance, and sustainable practices.
David Simkins is well known as a writer for both the big and small screen, writing ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING and working on shows like Adventures of Brisco County Jr. and Lois & Clark, but it was a surprise to us that he started his career working as a development executive at New World Pictures. In fact, Simkins was critical to the studio making 1984's CHILDREN OF THE CORN, so we had to interview him for #Corntober! Simkins takes us through his early years working on the high school sketch show Beyond Our Control, to working at New World Pictures, crushing on Linda Hamilton, and pitching ideas to the executives, one of which became a beloved Christmas classic (to some). Then we discuss then working with Debra Hill, how Simkins invented "quiet quitting," what Coen Brothers movie New World had a chance to release but didn't, and Simkins's TV work, from Brisco County Jr. to the Sam Raimi show Spy Game to recent work on Powers and Wu Assassins. Jump in, the children demand it!
Monitoring hyper-scale data centers require significant planning, understanding of pain points, and innovative solutions. Data center infrastructure management includes tools for monitoring, measuring, and managing data centers. The global DCIM market was estimated at $2 billion in 2022. It is projected to maintain a compound annual growth rate of 11.9% from 2022 to 2026, reaching $2.9 billion. In this growing market, implementation has evolved considerably, and Polygon is at the forefront of changes. Polygon's turnkey solutions mitigate risks proactively instead of reactively. “Polygon has the ability to continuously evolve and keep up with all the new developments and the demands from not only the building owners but the general contractors. So we have done a considerable amount of transitioning, improvement, and stellar technology that we're now currently using,” said Tina York, Polygon's Director of Client Development.Though data centers don't have a lot of internal walls, the expansive spaces include large pieces of equipment. “Now we're using this lower frequency that is 915 megahertz, and it really penetrates through or finds its way around it so that we can get these sensors that are wireless and battery operated to communicate back to what is called the base station or gateway,” said David Simkins, Polygon's Director of Engineering and Technology. The team has seen an increase in clients requesting sensors to detect efficiencies. “We see the movement, and it's not slowing down, having technology that we can actually bring into a project that supports their goals and carbon reduction footprint. And having the data available to show building owners that they're being diligent and implementing the right processes is instrumental,” said York. With Polygon's leak detectors, the sensors can alert stakeholders to issues early. “These areas and the things we're measuring can get remediated or shut down quite quickly, which means less business interruption, a quicker construction schedule,” said Simkins. The green effort umbrella includes monitoring air quality so that employees in the center are confident that the air quality is safe. Monitoring consists of a wide range of levels. Alerts are sent to managers via email or text so the team can act quickly. David Simkins, the Director of Engineering and Technology at Polygon US, introduces the Exact Air remote monitoring system. He explains that this system, developed over several years and currently in its fourth and fifth generation (e4 and e5), was initially created to meet the Navy's need for monitoring coatings in ballast tanks and ship holds. The system ensures that climate conditions, surface temperatures, and moisture levels are suitable for coating applications, thereby protecting the integrity of warranties that can span decades.David goes on to highlight that the technology expanded to address various other monitoring requirements. This includes tracking volatile organic gases, such as parasitic acid, ammonia, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide. The system also monitors air particles smaller than five microns, which can pose respiratory risks to humans. Additionally, the Exact Air system enables filtration assessment and maintains negative pressure in certain spaces. David emphasizes that this technology aligns with the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT), where devices can measure and calculate safety conditions, both for individuals and building environments. He mentions that this real-time monitoring capability can benefit insurance companies, property management firms, and stakeholders by providing information on building conditions, potentially impacting building warranties, sales, and construction projects. There is already growing interest from insurance companies in incentivizing customers to adopt real-time monitoring for construction sites and buildings.
