Get your surf boards out folks cause we are Escaping L.A.!! If you have never seen the movie or the original Escape From New York, just imagine if Han Solo had to keep doing little side jobs for the emperor to get out of trouble before he met Luke.
Avec dans cet épisode un retour sur Le Limier le chef-d'oeuvre de Joseph L. We were shocked to discover that 1987's Adventures in Babysitting doesn't have a DVD or Blu Ray audio commentary. After interviewing screenwriter David Simkins in 2022, we asked if he would be willing to record an audio commentary for Adventures in Babysitting and, to our delight, he agreed to do it. In typical NWPP fashion, the recording didn't go exactly as planned. At roughly 6 minutes into the movie, the audio of the film can be heard during the commentary. We've done our best to reduce the film's audio track but it was impossible to totally remove it. We recommend turning the audio down on your TV or device, and let our audio take over. One other call out, we recorded the audio commentary watching the PG-13 version of the movie not the one on Disney+. Enough with the caveats. David shares funny and insightful behind-the-scenes stories and talks about how the movie came together including working with Debra Hill and Lynda Obst. We discuss the challenges of shooting both in Chicago and Canada. David talks about how the famous blues bar scene came together, casting Elizabeth Shue, working with Chris Columbus and how Sara's obsession with Thor came to be. It's We believe this is the only audio commentary available for Adventures in Babysitting. We can't thank David Simkins enough for agreeing to do this with us. We hope you enjoy.

Halloween has a complex and multifaceted legacy, intertwining themes of fear, adolescence, and societal commentary. The exploration of the concept of the 'Final Girl,' epitomized by Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis. Laurie's character represents resilience and survival, challenging traditional gender roles often depicted in horror films, and her casting was just a simple publicity stunt really. Her mother was the original scream queen, Janet Leigh, and Psycho's DNA is woven throughout this movie in more ways than one...John Carpenter and Debra Hill crafted a narrative for Halloween that goes beyond simple scares, incorporating deeper messages about innocence, morality, and the unpredictability of evil. Carpenter's innovative filming techniques, such as the use of point-of-view shots that enhance the sense of being hunted, a tactic that has become a staple in horror storytelling, leading Michael Myers to becoming the granddaddy of slashers, and the villain to end all villains.Halloween resonated with audiences, and the growing popularity of horror as a genre, and it remains not only a beloved classic but also a significant work that continues to inspire and provoke thought about the horror genre and society's fears. And it all started with the idea of murdering babysitters... Bryan and Dave are joined by their friends Jonny and Aileen from the Uy Que Horror podcast to cap off their month-long October spooky season rundown with a look at the utterly baffling horror movie misstep, Halloween 3: Season of the Witch. It's what happens when a nobody really wants to make a movie but they have to anyway. John Carpenter and Debra Hill agreed to get involved but only if it didn't involve Michael Myers. Joe Dante quit the director spot to go work on another movie leaving it in the hands of Tommy Lee Wallace. Nigel Kneale, the original writer quit when Dino De Laurentis demanded more gory violence in the movie. The whole thing is a mess, really, with Tom Atkins playing a functional alcoholic and Stacy Nelkin playing a young woman in her prime suffering from severe daddy issues. Send us a textDo you remember Halloween II from 1981? This one was panned for being less scary, more gory, and a ton more blood. We don't see the problem with any of that but people back in 81 did. We don't remember much about this movie, other than it takes place right where the original ended. It also takes place in a hospital and Jamie Lee Curtis got a bigger paycheck and basically laid in a hospital bed the entire film. So join us as we go back to the 80s and preview & review the first sequel to one of the most popular horror movies ever.Do You Remember Liking This Movie?

"He was my patient for fifteen years. He became an obsession with me until I realized that there was nothing within him, neither conscious nor reason that was... even remotely human." We watched "Halloween II" with our friend Gabe Munoz and we'll be right back after we x-ray our entire candy haul. This movie wastes no time and picks up mere moments after Dr. Loomis (a frenzied Donald Pleasence) unloads 6 rounds into Michael Meyers at the end of the 1978 original. With all of our characters either unalived by Michael or under sedation in the emergency room, we get a whole new cast of Haddonfield residents to get picked off by "the shape". Is it to this movies detriment that OG Final Girl Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is in a hospital bed most of the movie? Maybe. Is her wig an even worse offence? Definitely. Original director John Carpenter may not have returned to helm this one, but he penned the script along with then wife and collaborator Debra Hill so the "bones" of the story and characters are there (spooky pun intended), but can Laurie's minimal screen time and Dr. Loomis frantic delivery save this one? The "Halloween" franchise has had its ups and downs but this kooky entry is a lot of fun and definitely worth the watch. What's up, dudes? Happy Halloween! Yes, it's October 31, All Hallows Eve, and that means we're talking about the Urtext of horror slashers, “Halloween” and its network television debut. There are frights and jumps, and many deaths from unsuspecting teenage babysitters. It's such a monumental movie that it spawned a multiversal franchise spanning 45 years. Halloween is an iconic slasher film written by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, and released on Oct 25, 1978. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance, it introduced us to the Shape, Michael Audrey Myers, who was committed to a sanitarium for murdering his teenage sister on Halloween night when he was a child. Fifteen years later, he escaped and returned to his hometown, where he stalked teenager Laurie Strode and her friends. Michael's psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis pursued him with the intention of ending the evil for good.In 1980, NBC purchased the television rights to Halloween for about $3 million. "Halloween" aired on television for the first time in October 25, 1981. NBC's Standards and Practices censored certain scenes, much to the chagrin of Carpenter and Hill. This unfortunately resulted in the movie being too short to fill the two-hour time slot, and so Carpenter filmed about twelve minutes of additional material while he was making "Halloween II." The newly filmed scenes include Dr. Loomis at a hospital board review of Michael Myers. Dr. Loomis also talks to a then-6-year-old catatonic Michael at Smith's Grove. Loomis also examines Michael's abandoned cell after his escape from the Smith's Grove facility, seeing the word "Sister" scratched into the door. Finally, Carpenter added a scene in which Lynda comes over to Laurie's house to borrow a silk blouse before Laurie leaves to babysit, just as Annie telephones asking to borrow the same blouse. Funnily enough, Laurie's hair is hidden by a towel, since Curtis had a much shorter hairstyle than she had worn in 1978.Halloween became the model for countless slasher films, and, while many have tried, none have quite captured its raw, thrilling perfection. Indeed, Michael Myers is one of cinema's greatest villains! So grab your ghost costume, pack your revolver, and hunt down this episode on the "Halloween" NBC premiere!Check us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com! Later, dudes!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! All month long, we dropped a different horror movie discussion every weekday and now we culminate to our grand HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST FINALE. There's no better way to go out on our theme, on Halloween, by discussing the first six films in the iconic franchise created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. Yes. This episode we review: Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1982), Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982), Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988), Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) and Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995). Starring a variety of folk such as Donald Pleasance, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, Dan O'Herlihy, Danielle Harris, Ellie Cornell and Paul Motherfucking Rudd. Title: Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers [Wikipedia] [IMDb] Director: Dwight H. Little Producer: Paul Freeman Writers: Alan B. McElroy (screenplay/story); Dhani Lipsius, Larry Rattner, Benjamin Ruffner (story); John Carpenter, Debra Hill (original characters) Stars: Donald Pleasence, Ellie Cornell, Danielle Harris, Michael Pataki Release date: October 21, 1988 PROMO: Anime Talk (@AnimeTalk12) SHOWNOTES: Happy Halloween, Collateral Cinephiles! We're celebrating the holiday with yet another film in the Halloween franchise—Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers! With the poor reception of Halloween III: Season of the Witch diminishing any chances of John Carpenter and Debra Hill turning the series into an anthology, Michael Myers was brought back. Although met with mostly reviews, this sequel would launch the "Thorn Trilogy" and develop a strong cult following. So how does it measure up to the other Halloween films we've discussed on the podcast? Find out now, and stay safe tonight, y'all! We wrap up this year's 13 Days of Halloween with the fifth entry in the series started by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. Ashley, Matt and Grant talk about Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers in today's episode. As always, thank you for listening, and Happy Halloween!
Bring Me The Axe! concludes its exploration of the Halloween legacy just in time for Halloween with an epic-length love letter to John Carpenter, Debra Hill, and their landmark creation. Halloween represents a major paradigm shift in horror movie and sets the pace for every horror movie that came in its wake. It's elegant. Every piece of the production is working in perfect harmony with the other pieces. The end-product is greater than the sum of its parts. It is a perfect horror movie and it's not surprising in the least that everyone is still obsessed with it. We head back to Haddonfield, Illinois for another encounter with Laurie, Annie, Lynda, Michael, Sheriff Brackett, and that wacky Dr. Loomis. That's right, we're taking another (much longer) look at one of Matt's favorite movies, John Carpenter's Halloween (1978). Untouchable classic this picture may be, but Laci was not a fan back in 2017. Surely time has softened her impenetrable heart... or has it? This film established so many hallmarks of the horror genre that are still used today. But there's so much more to unpack! How did Dr. Loomis not lose his medical license? Did Bob and Lynda put the Jack-O-Lantern next to the bed, or was it already there? And what does Michael Myers think about orgasm equity? Derided by both audiences and critics, we offer a defense of the film as a vital work of Carpenter's late period that manages to thrill as an action picture, while wryly thumbing its nose at the corrupt values of Hollywood and its own existence as a prototype for modern "legacy sequels".We begin by talking Carpenter in the 90s, a time when he was taking his biggest swings (while also facing some of his most frustrating conflicts with studios). Then, we take a look at the fascinating tenor of the film, and how it balances the acerbic, raw energy and wit of the original film while taking aim at societal ills of 1996 America with even more directness and urgency than its predecessor. Finally, we compare the film to other great movies (and one 2021 sequel specifically) that have followed in the spirit of 'Escape From L.A.', reckoning with legacy, while also boldly subverting audience expecations in pursuit of revealing the deeper truths and authenticity of their creators. Horror fans are a ridiculously loyal sort, but for the most part they don't love change. Back in 1982, producers John Carpenter and Debra Hill wanted to shake things up in their Halloween franchise. Instead of just bringing boogeyman Michael Myers back for a third slash-fest, the franchise would now be done anthology-style. As in: each new Halloween movie would be its very own thing. Like Tales from the Crypt did a few years later with Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood. But things didn't go precisely as planned. For this episode I'm joined by Scott Allen Perry (@scottallenperry), who I worked with on Found Footage 3D, but maybe you've also seen him movies like Keeping Up with the Joneses, The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, and the seasonal classic known as Santa Jaws. Professor Peter, Colonel Matt and Mr. Frank meet up to discuss 1985's Clue, a murder-mystery comedy decades before Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston tried to obliterate the genre. Listen in as they chat about the history of board game movies as well as what the rights of the game hold for future entries into the Clue-niverse. Directed by Jonathan Lynn, co-written alongside John Landis, and produced by Debra Hill, it stars Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren, and Colleen Camp. Director: David Gordon Green Writers: John Carpenter, Debra Hill, Paul Brad Logan Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, James Jude Courtney, Rohan Campbell, Will Patton Runtime: 1 hour 51 minutes Synopsis: The saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode comes to a spine-chilling climax in the final installment of this trilogy. Halloween Kills was a surprisingly bad film. But maybe it wasn't too surprising since the way the 2018 film ended should have been the pin in the series. Of course they then decided to ignore logic and make Halloween Kills in 2021. Because that wasn't enough, we then got Halloween Ends and we can safely say, this should definitely be the final nail in both Michael Myers' coffin and the Halloween series. Seriously, what did we just watch? Why did they think anyone wanted to see a Halloween film with Michael Myers only being in the film for like 5 minutes? Worse, he's not the unstoppable force but just some big dude that can get beat up by a scrawny babysitter. And since when did Michael Myers being a psychopath become contagious? Listen as Kriss, Ro & Brandon discuss this really really bad film. Seriously...wtf? Like what you hear? Subscribe so you don't miss an episode!
