Join Patch and Rich as we talk to BBC Radio Bristol presenter Adam Crowther. Adam grew up in Birmingham and has had a variety of roles in the media. We walk through Adam's life and career utilising the new segment of Desert Island Flicks! Don't miss this one!
The Godfather of the the podcast Sean Whiteley-Ross joins Patch and Rich from Portland, Oregon for the first outing of a new segment Desert Island Flicks. We each walk through our favourite movies from each decade we lived through.
Terrence Malick has been a filmmaker we've talked a lot about but haven't reviewed one of his film's since 2011's The Tree of Life. The reclusive director returned to a more (relative) narrative structure in 2019 with A Hidden Life, a period film set in Austria during World War II. Now available on VOD, we look at the Malick's storied career and our thoughts (and feelings) about his unique filmmaking technique. Then, taking a page from Cast Away, we make some hard decisions on the films we'd choose if we were stuck on a desert island.
All good things, and mediocre podcasts must come to an end. For our 100th and final episode, Moid, Dave, Russ and Chris present their Desert Island Flicks before cutting the head off the snake.
Should the Doctor Strange film have been more like this early 90s rip-off? Low budget studio Full Moon entertainment held the movie rights to Marvel’s Doctor Strange for a short period. When they lost the rights, they thought “well we’ve done all this pre-production work, might as well do something with it”. The result is Doctor Mordrid, a low budget fantasy action movie starring horror and B-movie legend Jeffrey Coombs in the title role. The Blu-Ray edition that one of us bought was definitely not released as cash grab. Team BFGC are on hand to investigate a curious . This episode was recorded shortly after consuming a large amount of Kentucky branded fried chicken. Joining us in the studio is semi-irregular co-host Dave. Before we tackle the movie, Dave is subjected to a rigorous Q&A and gives us his own Desert Island Flicks. But can Coombs play a heroic role and not come across as creepy? Can stop motion dinosaurs ever be rubbish? And does this film actually exist or is it a meat sweat induced fever dream? Join us as we soak in a bucket of KFC gravy to see if this comic book knock-off has Cumberbatch quaking, or if it should have stayed in the Nth dimension. Waffle On Desert Island Flicks... A Special Edition. Hello Waffle listeners, on this episode Meds and Kell are being sent to spend time on a desert Island courtesy of regular guest host Peter Coleman. The lads pick six films each that have some meaning to them. They are not their all time favourite films but films with a story. So sit back, grab a bottle and listen to them sail away never to be seen again....until next month. If you want to buy any of the films mentioned in this podcast then why not use our Amazon link. https://www.amazon.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&link_code=hom&placement=home_multi.gif&tag=wafonpod-21
Even writers go to the movies. And sometimes, when the movie is really, really, good (or really, really bad), they write about them. In this very special edition of Desert Island Flicks, five writers will share their favourite films and the work these films have inspired. Taking the concept of the Top Five film list and turning it on its head, ACMI and the Emerging Writers' Festival are sending not one but five castaways to the desert island. Once stranded with nothing but their favourite films, these writers will need to choose their number one favourite film of all time. The writers will then spend a lively evening discussing why these stories mean so much to them and exploring their own works that these films have inspired. Co-presented by ACMI and the Emerging Writers' Festival. Recorded on 3/5/2014

We've also got your emails, and Desert Island Flicks covers best Martin Scorsese film.
We've hit the big 6-0, and to celebrate we go on a pun-ridden journey of The Lovely Bones, A Single Man, The Crazies, Leap Year, and Micmacs. A bumper episode - we cover New Moon (terrible), The Box (weird), and Law Abiding Citizen (more fun than it should be). Paul somehow conjures up the idea of giant mechanical spider porn, Jon turns an intended compliment into something a bit creepy, and Jen gets worked up over vampires, but probably not how you expect. We've also got an interview with journalist and podcasting legend Andrew Collins, This Week in Movie History, and Desert Island Flicks covers "best box movie" because the idea amused us.
Paranormal Activity comes under the MB spotlight this week, together with discussing the Twilight phenomenon (proper review of New Moon next time), and the second half of our interview with screenwriter David Bloom. We also narrowly skirt a libellous discussion about Silvio Berlusconi, talk about Crank 2, Tropic Thunder, The Prestige, and Stuck, plus This Week in Movie History, and Desert Island Flicks covers best "found footage" movie.
We're one year old! So an epic podcast with 2012 and a discussion of the best disaster films on Desert Island Flicks. Plus reviews of Harry Brown and The Men Who Stare At Goats, a morbid This Week In Movie History, a slamming of film publicists on Newsdesk, and your many lovely birthday wishes and film recommmendations. Week off next week, and if you're after part 2 of the interview with Donkey Punch screenwriter David Bloom, we bantered so much we ran out of room, so next time. Roll on Movie Banter, year 2!
An exclusive interview with Donkey Punch screenwriter David Bloom, plus Jon & Paul review An Education, 9 and Cold Souls. We also muse on the possibility of a British Saw film, the genius of Terry Gilliam, Paul somehow mixes up laughing and vomiting, In This Week in Movie History, Desert Island Flicks (this week: "best horror franchise"), and an interview with comedian Phil Butler. Oh, and when Paul mentioned the movie "Unlawful Entry", Jenny barely stifled a laugh so filthy we had to edit it out, but think of that when you hear the title and it'll hopefully make you smile.
Paul, Jon and Jenny float away on Up, through weather which is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, before landing in a Couples Retreat, and taking the Transsiberian to Eden Lake. Along the way there are some diversions via Jon's bizarre operating hours, the potential of a dialogue-free animated movie, Paul's confusing toilet story, and much more. This week's Desert Island Flicks is "best Pixar movie".
Paul, Jon and Jenny dig into the brains of Zombieland, try and debug Surrogates, theorise on Creation, and suffer Pandorum. Along the way we get distracted by the idea of a Zombie cannon, Jenny's shrine to Chris Pine, trailers that ruin movies, DVDs given away in newspapers, and muse on how zombifying The Crying Game might have livened it up a bit. Also In This Week in Movie History, and Desert Island Flicks covers our favourite zombie movies.

Desert Island Flicks focuses on best film about food, and of course This Week in Movie History. [Apologies for a couple of moments of mobile phone interference in this episode. Won't happen again.]

Also reviewed are The Hurt Locker and Broken Embraces. Desert Island Flicks covers the best modern World War 2 film, and This Week in Movie History centers around the third installment of a certain time-travelling film.

That's right: Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince and Bruno come under fire from Jon, Jen and Paul, plus This Week In Movie History, three film recommendations from Delorean car owner Stuart Nicholls (and Back To The Future isn't one of them), plus Desert Island Flicks looks at the best child actor performances.
Jon and Paul weigh into Public Enemies, My Sister's Keeper, and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, plus discussing whether 3D is the future, Desert Island Flicks covers best documentary, and This Week in Movie History.
Normal movie bantering is resumed - Transformers 2, Year One, and Man on Wire all under scrutiny, prompting discussions on the merits (or lack thereof) of big dumb action films, and also bemoaning ill-thought-out comedies. Paul mentions his Delorean experiences, we're unusually mocking towards Jen (maybe becase she had a week off) and Desert Island Flicks covers vampire movies. Oh, and of course This Week in Movie History.
Paul, Jon and Jenny banter about The Hangover, Sunshine Cleaning, marvel at Amy Adams, and muse on whether the reality of The Terminator or future-setting of Terminator Salvation make for more engrossing viewing. Also a chat with comedian George Egg, Desert Island Flicks covers "best trailer", and as always, This Week in Movie History.
This week up for bantering by Paul, Jon and Jen are more bad ideas for movie prequels, musings on which of the new acting generation could replace the old guard, a review of 12 Rounds, discussing the recently-announced remake of Total Recall, the TV movie of Discworld novel The Colour of Magic, and thoughts about books that should and shouldn't be made into movies. A 2nd episode in a week? We're too generous. As Paul moves house, Jon and Jennifer help sift through his DVD box, unearthing treasures from Swingers to Top Secret to Russian Ark to Chums with Ant & Dec. Desert Island Flicks is your Most Watched Film, and there's a chat about the first 18-rated films we saw.
This week Paul, Jon and Jennifer cover Marley & Me, Knowing, Bronson, Interstate 60, and A Prarie Home Companion. There's also the return of "this week in movie history", and Desert Island Flicks covers the best TV to movie adaptation.
A bumper week for movies - Revolutionary Road, Valkyrie, Frost/Nixon, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and more. Plus "this week in movie history", Desert Island Flicks focuses on snow, and Paul and Jon start wondering if a Movie Banter curse might exist for anyone whose name gets mentioned...
This week Paul covers Australia (the film, not the entire country), Jon covers The Spirit, and leaves slightly more confused than before he saw it, and they both review The Reader, which doesn't warrant a flippant addition because it's a serious film. "Desert Island Flicks" asks for their favourite black and white movie, producing an unexpected choice on both counts, and Paul hopes he hasn't caused the death of someone he knows by mistake. Or deliberately, come to think of it.
Paul and Jon discuss the new Clint Eastwood-directed Changeling, starring Angelina Jolie, as well as sharing views on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Sweeney Todd, Waz (or W Delta Z), Day Watch, and Waltz With Bashir. Plus they somehow go off on a tangent about Steve Guttenberg, and wonder why subtitled movies put some people off. The "Desert Island Flicks" category this week is musicals, and there's a guest appearance by Paul's housemate Jenny.
