For episode #600 of Have You Ever Seen, we're completing the Quentin Quest. With this, we have reviewed everything Tarantino has directed (well, discounting Four Rooms). Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is the man's most-emotional film and it's his most-personal too. The outstanding cast is headlined by the hilarious Leonardo Di Caprio, the gruff (and Oscar-winning) Brad Pitt and the sweet-as-honey Margot Robbie. She doesn't get as much to do as the guys do, but her lovely performance always brings one of us to tears. This film is funny, it's heartfelt, it's tense and QT gets back into "revisionist history" territory when Leo & Pitt's fictional characters cross paths with the very-real Manson maniacs. Bring on the ultra-violence...and bring on the laughs! This movie about movie-making (and television-making) isn't Tarantino's #1 film, but it deepens with meaning every time we see it. So enjoy this fairy tale that often feels as real as a donut because we're talking about Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Well, Actually: Jodie Foster appeared in a few TV shows in 1969, so the young actress WAS acting right around the time this movie is set. Also, Bruce Dern worked with QT on The Hateful Eight, of course, but he's also in Django Unchained. Also also, they were shooting the Lancer pilot in February, so Rick not talking about working on that show is probably because a proper season would only start airing after the events of this movie. And Bibi from Kill Bill is played by Perla Haney-Jardine. Check out the goods that Sparkplug Coffee offers. They give our listeners a onetime 20% discount if they use our "HYES" promo code. Alicia Witt steps Behind The Rope. After being discovered by none other than David Lynch at the age of seven, Alicia has had a career that most can only dream of having starred in many of our favorites - Twin Peaks, Cybill, The Walking Dead, Ally McBeal, The Sopranos and so much more. We chat about this prolific career and our fav part of Alicia's ever, starring as Madonna's lover in the 1995 film, Four Rooms. We chat Madge, that film and why women of a certain age are still scrutinized day in and day out on line and by the media for their appearance. Speaking of Madonna and music, we discuss Alicia's very personal new song and video - “Witness”, finding out she was offered “The Masked Singer” while waking up from breast reconstructive surgery and just how profound Alicia's just completed Masked Singer experience has been on both her singing career and life. @aliciawitty @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope BROUGHT TO YOU BY: HONEYLOVE - honeylove.com (20% Off With Code VELVET) JUNE'S JOURNEY - (Download June's Journey For Free Today on Apple iOS or Android) ADVERTISING INQUIRIES - Please contact David@advertising-execs.com MERCH Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Hello, fellow underdogs! We're back with Matt Belenky — film producer/film writer/film aficionado/Pittsburgh native — to discus one of the best Die Hard clone movies ever put to screen: Peter Hyams' 90's classic, Sudden Death. Matt recently celebrated Sudden Death's timeless charm and Pittsburghian ethos in the Pittsburgh Orbit article Terrorism in Overtime: Sudden Death Turns 25, and he fills us in on all the local details you'll want to hear: the casting of real-life Penguins broadcasting duo Mike Lange and Paul Steigerwald as themselves, the story being conceived by Karen Elise Baldwin (daughter of then-Penguins owner Howard Baldwin, who produced the film), and the strange circumstances in which the hockey game was filmed during the NHL lockout. We also talk about how well the film marries action genre tropes with the sports genre tropes, the fast clip at which the deaths pile up and the plotting skates along, whether or not this is Jean-Claude Van Damme's best or most iconic role, the savvy inclusion of the props/backrooms/corridors/interstices of the now-demolished Civic Arena, the hilarious culinary-themed kills (i.e., the death of the Pens mascot, Iceburgh, in an industrial-sized dishwasher), and the stunningly shot stunt work/action set pieces (i.e., the helicopter crashing into the Jumbotron). Oh, and to break the ice, we have a blast breaking down the entire slate of box office releases in late December 1995 (Waiting to Exhale, Grumpier Old Men, Nixon, Dracula: Dead & Loving It, Balto, Four Rooms, Tom & Huck, Cutthroat Island, etc...) — with each of us picking the one movie we'd choose to see if we had only enough allowance to buy a single ticket on opening weekend. Enjoy!

Happy New Year, everyone! And to kick off Season Six, Kevin and Chris bring forth a consummate New Year's movie: 1995's Four Rooms, starring Tim Roth, Madonna, Ione Skye, Quentin Tarantino, Antonio Banderas, Bruce Willis (in an uncredited role), and many more. Rest assured, you won't find a better way to ring in 2023 than with your saintly friends and Now We Know.
The Meddling Kids celebrate New Year's Eve at Hotel Mon Signor and all of their crazy patrons. Ted is a brand new bellhop at a hotel that has seen better times. To make matters worse, he is the only person working on New Year's Eve. Can he handle all the needy patrons, or will he crack under the pressure? Hang with your pals, the 2 Meddling Kids, to see if this movie is a great way to celebrate the New Year.

It all comes down to one sap, the night shift bell hop - its NYE and its complete chaos at the Mon Signor Hotel. Ted the bellhop (Tim Roth) is left alone overnight to handle a motley crew of guests in the bizarre anthology. The Missing Ingredient sees a coven of witches (Valeria Golino, Madonna, Lili Taylor, Sammi Davis, Ione Skye and Alicia Witt) doing their best to resurrect the goddess Diana (Amanda De Cadenet) in the hot tub of the honeymoon suite. The Wrong Man has Ted fighting for his life in the middle of a bizarre sex game between Siegfreid (David Provall) and his wife Angela (Jennifer Beals). The Misbehavers has Ted playing babysitter for the Man (Antonio Banderas) and his wife's (Tamyln Tomita) children who do, in fact, misbehave. All of this leads up to the climax in the penthouse meeting the Man From Hollywood; Chester Rush and friends, Norman (Paul Calderon), and Leo (Bruce Willis) have a bet that costs a little finger and there's us walking out of here, right fucking now. It's the last day of the year and we're checking in to one of the Four Rooms this time on Doom Generation. In today's episode a special friend from Rockwell Table and Stage joins me in the podcast, Lana McKissack. Lana is an actor, singer, dancer, and on occasion a transformer. I had the pleasure to watch Lana, alongside the stellar cast of the UMPO productions, perform weekend after weekend. Performances that felt like Broadway made its way down to Los Feliz Blvd. and I didn't have to pay for a ticket. Now she's here at The Y the F Not Podcast and I can't tell you how great it was to catch up with her. She shared her early beginnings as a young child actor in commercials, cult classics like, Four Rooms, and what she's been up to this past Halloween season with Horror Camp at the Bourbon room. As we round out the first round of the Cabin Chronicles, we land on Roy's first pick, Four Rooms. This 1995 film has a lot of highs and lows, and would feature entries from some of the most prolific filmmakers of their generation. Which tale in this anthology film would be everyone's favorite? You know, the drill, listen to find out. Enjoy!

Our culture is always talking about self-care, and so today we ask: Can the contemplative life help me with this? Many of us are so easily plagued with self-doubt: Am I doing enough? Am I doing it right? Is this the meaningful life I was hoping for? And so today we take a moment to talk about the tell-tale signs of needing a little self-love. We talk about how to practically engage without dysregulating the rest of our lives. And we land on some really good news: We don't have to practice self-care perfectly in order to get the benefits from it. So take a deep breath…we'll wait…and join us for the conversation.
