We take a realistic look into the unrealistic world of romantic comedies that we LOVE to hate. This Week -The Princess Diaries (2001)Starring: Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews, Hector Elizondo A wonderful movie where all of the adults suck. We ask the tough questions this week…Is Summer 2025 the Summer of Helen Thermopolis? What made up country should Sarah be royalty in? And how much money should Mia have to pay, in order to get her vehicle up and running? Many women find themselves in a cycle of short-term success, only to lose momentum and start over again.I call this Cinderella Consciousness—a mindset rooted in imposter syndrome, low self-worth, and the illusion that transformation happens overnight.Movies like Cinderella, Pretty Woman, Clueless, and The Princess Diaries reinforce this idea, but they don't show what it actually takes to sustain success. If your business, brand, or identity is built on faking it till you make it, you'll always struggle to maintain the success you create. In this episode, I break down:The symptoms of Cinderella Consciousness and how to spot themWhy short-term wins don't lead to lasting successThe root cause of self-sabotage and constantly starting overHow to shift into the Queen Mindset—one built on sustainability, strategy, and long-term successIt's time to break free from survival mode and step into the identity of a Queen. For our final episode for season two of Locarno Meets, we were delighted to be joined by actress Caroline Goodall, whose illustrious career has seen her turn in remarkable performances in now-classic films by many of the greatest names in contemporary cinema. Goodall was in Locarno to promote her latest film, the Piazza Grande-playing “Sew Torn”, directed by the prodigious young director Freddy MacDonald. We spoke with the marvellous actress about working, in this case, with a gifted filmmaker in his early twenties, as well as reminiscing about some of her major films, like “Schindler's List”, “Hook”, “The Princess Diaries”, and Lars von Trier's “Nymphomaniac”.

Tame that Mediterranean mane and strap on your black, chonky-heeled boots as we spin into 2001's The Princess Diaries. Can we get more late-in-life romance between Julie Andrews and Héctor Elizondo, please? Is Anne Hathaway the supreme evolution of the ultra sincere theater kid? And did you know about the deadly properties of tonka beans? Ask Bryce sometime.
Edward (Richard Gere) is a wealthy industrialist who is feeling lonely one night while on a business trip. While cruising Hollywood Boulevard, he meets a prostitute named Vivian (Julia Roberts) and he decides to hire her for the week to stay with him....what he didn't count on was falling in love. :o And what resulted was one of the most popular romantic comedies of all time, a worldwide phenomenon which launched Julia Roberts into the stratosphere. It was directed by the late, great Garry Marshall (Beaches, The Princess Diaries) and also co-starred Jason Alexander, Laura San Giacomo, and Hector Elizondo. It had a hugely popular soundtrack and features several iconic scenes.....but how does it hold up? On the eve of its 35th Anniversary AND Valentines Day, let's head back to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and Rodeo Drive, and find out.....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
We're back for a brand new season of the Story x Story podcast! This week, Nigel and Tazziii are making magic solo as we dive into the enchanting melodic adventures of Encanto (starting at 29:52). We break down this musical narrative rooted in Colombian culture as it explores the challenges of stewarding gifts given to an individual and how to approach life when you believe you didn't receive something special. It's an emotionally colourful tale that manages to trigger some introspective moments with our hosts. We examine themes of family, generational trauma and comparison with those around you. We also debate the narrative usefulness of one of Disney's most popular recent songs (and memes) as we finally get to talk about Bruno! This week's storytelling tip is about maintaining narrative momentum through music. Other stories we're enjoying include: Gamers! (Crunchyroll), Mob Psycho (Crunchyroll), Sex in the City (Sky), Sugar Apple Fairy Tale (Crunchyroll), One Piece (Crunchyroll), Blue Lock (Crunchyroll), Tokyo Revengers (Crunchyroll, Disney+), Gangs of London (Netflix), A Real Pain (Cinema), Little Nightmares 2 (Nintendo Switch).

This week we reviewed The Rules of Royalty by Cale Dietrich a YA Romance: Two princes from neighboring countries fall into a whirlwind royal romance in this sparkling spin on The Princess Diaries by Cale Dietrich. Jamie Johnson has never been the centre of attention, and he's perfectly okay with that. His entire world unravels as a hidden truth emerges: he's the heir to the throne of Mitanor, a sun-drenched southern European country, and the press is ready to expose this secret to the world. An invitation to spend the summer in his father's palace arrives, giving Jamie a chance to get to know the man he never thought he'd meet. Meanwhile, in a northern European kingdom known for its cold climate and stoic royals, Erik Von Rosenborg, the spare prince, grapples with the upcoming marriage of his golden-boy elder brother. With the country's spotlight trained on his family more than ever, Erik feels sidelined and tightly controlled. So when he receives an offer to tutor the newly found American prince in the ways of royalty, he accepts without hesitation. At a magnificent summer palace, Erik guides Jamie through the intricacies of royal etiquette, politics, and history. What neither prince anticipates is the connection that sparks between them—one that challenges both of their futures. Now each must make a choice: follow their hearts, or the time-honored royal path where crown and country reigns supreme, no matter the personal cost.

Olivia recently spent some time in San Francisco, giving her time to think about her proximity to the Zodiac Killer's turf (and to binge watch both Princess Diaries movies.) Shauna continues to brush up against the cool and the famous in her quest to save Arizona from itself by getting out the vote. Speaking of propositions, the Junkies (and everyone) are nervous about the upcoming election, so what better way to cope than by...talking about politics? Specifically the intersection between pop culture and politics. They discuss the best television shows set in the West Wing, and look at politics on the big screen, and how two movies predicted the times we are currently living in. The Junkies also show two very different movies presented the Watergate scandal. Will there be Dick jokes in this episode? You don't have to be Deep Throat to know the answer to that question. And finally, Shauna and Olivia discuss the way the media as a whole is dividing us when we really need to be united. We encourage you to vote yes on this politically-charged episode! Welcome to Season 4, Episode 42! It's another installment of Most Forgotten Massacres. Today we're going to talk about the Anti-Filipino Riots in Washington State. Although the discrimination and violence occurred in the 1920s and 1930s, the tension had been building for a few decades because the dislike of Asian laborers can be traced back to the Chinese during the Gold Rush and railroad days, the Japanese in the agricultural fields, and the South Asians in agriculture and lumber mills. For Filipinos in Washington State, many of them came in as U.S. Nationals, but they became labeled as Aliens after a few years. In this episode, we share some of the cultural, political, economic, and social issues that led to the violence against Filipino laborers in Washington. Predominantly occurring in Yakima Valley, Seattle, and Bremerton, the events highlighted a widespread problem that was exacerbated by politicians, labor leaders, nativist groups, and the media. In our opening we talk about Shohei Ohtani and the LA Dodgers as well as Adele Lim and the Princess Diaries 3. In our recurring segment, we talk about the National Federation of Filipino American Associations. They do a lot of advocacy and empowerment work. You can learn more or donate on their website. Princess Diaries 3 is officially in the works. Speaking of queens, Beyonce has partnered with Levis on a new commercial. Benson Boone is performing right down the road from me in Oklahoma City and tickets are still too expensive. Will I ever be able to see him perform? Dolly Parton and Walmart have teamed up to donate $12 million to the victims of the hurricane. Kylie Jenner made a surprise debut at Paris Fashion Week when she walked in the Coperni show at Disneyland Paris. Sadly Kris Kristofferson has passed away. Dolly Parton showed her love for him with a heartfelt Instagram post. Due Lipa and Benson Boone both performed this weekend at the ACL music festival, and guess what? I wasn't there :/ . One of the greatest shows of all time, Desperate Housewives, debuted 20 years ago. It's such a good show to binge. And lastly, Rebel Wilson got married in Italy. Thanks for listening!
More information about the Diddy case and updates. Dua Lipa recently shared her Diet Coke drink. The Princess Diaries is a novel about an ordinary teen, Mia Thermopolis, who discovers she is actually heir to a throne in a distant country few people have even heard of. In addition to the challenges of math class, Mia has to decide if she would like to be the ruler (someday) of this small, fictional foreign nation. We discuss this classic coming-of-age story and the enduring allure (or fear) of being a princess. Since this is also the same month that Prince Harry's memoir debuted, we also got into the connections between these two royals. What does it mean to take charge of your own story? Next up: We'll cover Everything I Need I Get from You: How Fangirls Created the Internet as We Know It by Kaitlyn Tiffany. Original air date: January 28, 2023
