How do we live well with nations, ecosystems, economies, religions, and other institutions in disarray? Data reveals widespread anxiety among young people globally regarding the impact of climate change on their future. Unbelievable host Andy Kind seized the chance to talk with writer and activist Brian McLaren. Once banned reading for a young Andy Kind when he first embraced his faith, McLaren now joins him for a face-to-face conversation. Have we crossed tipping points towards an inexorable tide of doom? This deep anxiety creates an inner divide: a tension between a hopeful commitment to action for the common good and the fear that no actions can prevent an undesirable or dystopian future. McLaren's 'Life After Doom' offers a sober analysis of climate breakdown, societal collapse, wars, pandemics, and challenges readers to seek wisdom and courage in a world on the brink. Brian McLaren, author of 'Faith After Doubt' and 'Do I Stay Christian?', is a leading voice at the intersection of faith and contemporary culture. Why do we tend to go for an experience that feels good and when something feels bad, we tend to avoid it? Why are conscious experiences and behaviour paired together in the most rational way? The Unbelievable podcast unpacks the mystery of psycho-physical harmony with Philip Goff, Professor Philosophy at Durham University (an atheist) as he debates Dustin Crummett, a Christian philosopher. Goff believes this topic in philosophy will revolutionize how we perceive the relationship between mind and body and how we make choices based on pain-pleasure. On the podcast this week, we welcome Christian philosopher Dustin Crummett and panpsychist professor Philip Goff from Durham University. Dustin Crummett presents a compelling argument for God as the key to unraveling today's show's enigma. On the other hand, Philip Goff, in his groundbreaking 'Why?' book, proposes an intriguing solution through radical panpsychism, introducing the concept of 'pan-agentialism'—a form of free will attributed to particles, i.e., everything is the agent of its own behavior, whether it is animate or inanimate. Whether you're a seasoned philosopher or a curious mind, this episode will challenge and inspire your views on the harmony between the mind and the physical world. #philosophy #debate #atheism #psychophysicalharmony #christianphylosophy #consciousness SOCIAL LINKS Twitter: https://twitter.com/unbelievablefe Facebook: / https://facebook.com/premierunbelievable Instagram: / https://instagram.com/premierunbelievable Tik Tok: / https://tiktok.com/@premier.unbelievable • Subscribe to the Unbelievable? podcast: https://pod.link/267142101 • More shows, free eBook & newsletter: https://premierunbelievable.com • For live events: http://www.unbelievable.live • For online learning: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/courses • Support us in the USA: http://www.premierinsight.org/unbelievableshow • Support us in the rest of the world: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/donate

For too long, the ‘science and religion' debate has fixated on creation, evolution, cosmology, miracles and quantum theory, and not enough on the essence of what it means to be human. But this is a mistake argues one of our guests today, Christian academic Nick Spencer, Senior Fellow at Theos, in his new book ‘Playing God: science, religion and the future of humanity.' Back on the show is Emily Qureshi-Hurst expert on the philosophy of time. Emily is a Lecturer in Philosophy at Oriel College, University of Oxford and together Nick and Emily sort out the role of science and belief when it comes to questions of personhood and the future of humanity. The question of the historicity of Jesus' resurrection has been repeatedly investigated, probed, and discussed. This week on Unbelievable we will add to the debate by asking ‘Did it really happen – the Resurrection of Jesus?' dissecting the narratives of Jesus' death and Resurrection. We've got two eminent scholars – who are good friends but with diametrically opposed beliefs on the authenticity of this pivotal event that forms the basis for the Christian worldview. Dr. Mike Licona, a New Testament scholar, an expert on the intricate details of events surrounding the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ in first century Palestine, examines their historical reliability. Dr. Larry Shapiro a sceptic on such matters, challenges these assertions and offers alternative explanations that he believes are more plausible. The show also tackles reconciling discrepancies in the Resurrection accounts - does that strengthen or weaken the arguments that these events happened? And even if the historical reliability of ancient texts is established, can we apply these texts to 21st century life from a philosophical perspective? Dr. Mike Licona presents the evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus. If the Resurrection happened, and Jesus conquered death for all who put their trust in Him it's a question we cannot not ignore. Where is God to be found when you face a no-joke reality of a terminal diagnosis for cancer? Two comedians, who are both Christians, are facing just this challenge. This discussion between these two men will transform the way you think about terminal illness. This is an uplifting show with two people who feel even closer to God than before they received their devastating news. Allan Finnegan competed in the 2020 series of the ITV variety competition Britain's Got Talent and got to the semi-finals with his comedy act. After the show, Allan a Baptist minister continued working at his church in Bootle as normal but sought medical advice when he started to experience some issues with his vision in 2022. He has now been given one year to live after being diagnosed with a rare cancer and has been told by doctors they can do nothing more for him. Steve Legg is also a funnyman of faith who was given 120 days to live. He's already passed that and phenomenally successful book The Last Laugh tells the gripping story of rather than get busy dying he got busy living. Like Allan, Steve's story offers genuine hope in the face of death. @stevelegguk on X and get his book here Allan's treatment is not available on the NHS but you help pay for his potentially life-saving treatment here Check out previous shows on this topic • Subscribe to the Unbelievable? podcast: https://pod.link/267142101 • More shows, free eBook & newsletter: https://premierunbelievable.com • For live events: http://www.unbelievable.live • For online learning: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/courses • Support us in the USA: http://www.premierinsight.org/unbelievableshow • Support us in the rest of the world: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/donate
This week on Premier Unbelievable, the question of whether Jesus is God is explored, a topic that often divides Muslims and Christians. The show revisits a conversation featuring Dr. Abdulla Galadari, author of 'Quranic Hermeneutics,' and Dr. Joshua Sijuwade, a Visiting Lecturer at the London School of Theology. In a riveting exploration, the podcast delves into Galadari's compelling contention that the Qur'an artfully weaves its own interpretation of the Gospels' portrayal of Jesus, rather than outrightly discarding them. The conversation between Dr. Galadari and Dr. Sijuwade revolves around the similarities between the Qur'an and the Bible, as well as the divinity of the historical Jesus. Presented by Andy Kind. This week in the UK, discussions are taking place in Parliament around various aspects of the Criminal Justice Bill. One of the most contentious areas is around a couple of tabled amendments* that would remove offences that make it illegal for a woman to perform a self-abortion at any point through to birth. There's lots to unpack about the potential decriminalisation of abortion, the ethical questions around a fetus's right to life and a woman's choice. Even if we can agree on when life begins how do we navigate the rights of the mother and the unborn child. Andy Kind is joined by Lois McLatchie, Senior Legal Communications Officer at ADF, and Ellie Lee, Professor of Family and Parenting Research, SSPSSR, the Director for Centre for Parenting Culture Studies and the co-author of Parenting Culture Studies. *Since this show was recorded the proposed amendments discussed in this show have been withdrawn. The matter has been postponed to the Report stage of the Criminal Justice Bill. However, it is anticipated that similar amendments will be reintroduced during the floor debate in the House of Commons, where all Members of Parliament are expected to vote on the matter. We have teamed up with our friends at Aylesbury Vale Youth For Christ a pioneering youth ministry that holds debates in UK schools in the style of Unbelievable to engage the students in the big questions of life, faith and differing worldviews. A key component is that the students get to put their questions directly to the debaters. So grab your schoolbag as we join a fascinating debate held at the end of 2023 between secular humanist Neil McKain and Christian apologist Sara Stevenson. Neil McKain is also the vice-chairman of Humanists UK, and a religious studies teacher. Sara Stevenson who is a writer, speaker and theologian from the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics. Today on Unbelievable? Andy Kind hosts the first part of an occasional series on the topic of women in the church, how women are portrayed in the Bible, and questions around women in ministry. Why do women often feel unequal to men in Church? There are plenty of differing views and we will cover a number of them in the coming months. Women in the Bible frequently emerge as devoted followers of Jesus, prominently present at significant events such as the tomb and the Cross. They function as followers and disciples of Jesus, with the Apostle Paul acknowledging and respecting female coworkers. However, our understanding often falls short in fully recognising the humanity of these female characters, as attention tends to be directed solely toward Jesus' interactions with them. This series aims to delve deeper into the lives of these women, offering a more comprehensive exploration that may reshape our perspectives today. First up we have Liz Cooledge Jenkins, a writer, preacher, and former college campus minister, and the author of Nice Churchy Patriarchy: Reclaiming Women's Humanity from Evangelicalism. https://twitter.com/lizcoolj https://www.instagram.com/postevangelicalprayers/ • Subscribe to the Unbelievable? podcast: https://pod.link/267142101 • More shows, free eBook & newsletter: https://premierunbelievable.com • For live events: http://www.unbelievable.live • For online learning: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/training • Support us in the USA: http://www.premierinsight.org/unbelievableshow • Support us in the rest of the world: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/donate
This week on Unbelievable we return to the topic of free will. Following the debate between Ben Shapiro and Alex O'Connor, Christian apologist Tim Stratton got in touch to say he took issue with some of Alex's arguments against free will. Indeed Tim noted that Alex agreed with Ben Shapiro that if there is no God, then there is no free will. Tim Stratton develops the argument in a spirited debate with atheist philosopher Alex Malpass, hosted by Andy Kind. Alex Malpass has a PhD in philosophy from the University of Bristol, and these days specialises in philosophy of religion, but also metaphysics and logic more generally. He runs a podcast called Thoughtology and an infrequently updated blog called the Use of Reason. Alex Malpass has published in various philosophical journals including the International Journal for the Philosophy of Religion. For Alex Malpass's book: History of Philosophical and Formal Logic: From Aristotle to Tarski go here Tim Stratton holds a graduate degree in Christian Apologetics from Biola University and a PhD in theology from North-West University. He is a professor at Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary and the author of Human Freedom, Divine Knowledge, and Mere Molinism. He has also recently contributed a chapter to a book entitled, Faith Examined: New Arguments for Persistent Questions, Essays in Honor of Dr. Frank Turek. Stratton has coauthored multiple academic journal articles (most notably with J.P. Moreland) related to the topics of libertarian freedom, the problems of evil, and also responding to the Hiddenness Argument. To find Stratton's popular level work, find his videos on YouTube at FreeThinking Ministries and his blogs at FreeThinking Ministries.com or FreeThinkInc.org. His X handle is @TSXpress. Have you wondered whether you're sharing your faith ‘enough'? Do you feel guilty that you don't have a long list of people who've become Christians because of your witness? Our guest for this edition is comedian, preacher, and writer, Andy Kind. Andy has confidence in his specific gifts and allows God to use the uniqueness of his story as he goes about his everyday life, intentionally living in a way that honours God. He discusses the joy of the gospel and how Christians can express that in fresh ways, as we invite people into the delight of knowing Jesus; shares about the importance of both preparation and improvisation in his work as a comedian and helps us to see how that technique applies to us all, as we seek to make Jesus known through our daily activities; and talks about how he shares the Gospel without feeling the need to count converts! We also touch on the issue of 'stage fright' and how fear can prevent all of us from moving forwards in a task or conversation relating to faith. This conversation will remind you that as a Christian, you're sent to restore people back to God. No matter what your ‘ordinary' looks like, you'll find some helpful tips and joy-filled encouragement in this edition. Presented by Sharon Tedford. Produced by Gary Dell. Andy Kind is a comedian, preacher and writer. He started doing Stand-up on 23rd January 2005. By the September of that year, Andy had gone full-time as a comedian and has made a living from it ever since. He won Anything for Laffs in 2005 and in early 2019 hurdled over the 2000-gig barrier. Other stuff happened in between. Described by The Scotsman as ‘Terrific' and by the Yorkshire Times as ‘Tossing out comic gems in an almost profligate manner', Andy's stand-up style is the joyful ranting of a redeemed alpha male. He has been featured on BBC1, ITV and Channel 4, while he's had jokes featured on Dave's One Night Stand and Live at the Apollo.

Subscribe, like and share! --- About the channel --- Dan and Phil are mates who like talking apologetics, philosophy, ethics and theology. They interview Christians who are evangelists, authors, scientists, apologists, comedians or simply interested in talking about big topics. In the future, we're looking to interview people from other faiths and atheists in a non-confrontational format. We put all interviews on a podcast.
