Matt Stephens and Zoe Bäckstedt chat about bike racing and family. With both parents and a big sister already proving themselves in athletic terms, it's no surprise that Zoe has had such a successful junior career - winning World Championship jerseys for road racing, time trialling, cyclocross, and even some track disciplines. And in the 24 hours since recording this podcast, she's become European U23 Individual Time Trial champion too! But Matt is keen to learn which discipline is her favourite, and how it feels to switch teams mid-season from EF Education-TIBCO-SVB to Canyon-SRAM, where her father Magnus is Directeur Sportif. Zoe also rates Matt's Lego collection, and gets shocked by the price of Fish and Chips in her hometown of Pontyclun.

Abi Smith started cycling as a four-year-old. Today, she is proud to race her second professional season with EF Education-TIBCO-SVB. Growing up in Yorkshire, England, her parents encouraged Abi and her older brother to spend lots of time outside and keep active, and signed them up for the Yorkshire Regional Triathlon Series. Abi competed in the series for eight years before concluding that cycling was her strongest discipline. She switched her focus to road racing in 2018 as a 16-year-old, lining up for the National Youth Road Series that year. Her strength and consistency caught the attention of a British Cycling coach, who offered her a spot in the junior academy program the following season. Abi cut her teeth on the road and on the track with the British Cycling Academy. She calls WorldTour racing with the team the biggest opportunity of her life. The 20-year-old is focused on gaining experience in the peloton and learning from her teammates. The 2022 season offered Abi plenty of new experiences, including spending over 100 kilometers in the breakaway at Scheldeprijs, racing the 10-stage Giro Donne, and competing in the Commonwealth Games. She lists her diesel engine as her greatest asset, which is useful for chasing down breakaways, late race attacks and time trials.

It's a massive episode today covering the greatest one-day race of them all. Mathieu van der Poel secured an impressive solo victory at Paris-Roubaix, adding to his earlier 2023 Milan San Remo triumph. After a series of attacks and a key collision at Carrefour de l'Arbre, van der Poel capitalized on rival Wout van Aert's puncture to gain an advantage and ultimately win the race. Despite the intense competition, van der Poel expressed sympathy for van Aert's misfortune and praised his team's performance, with teammate Jasper Philipsen finishing second. Alison Jackson from EF Education–Tibco–SVB claimed a surprising victory at Paris-Roubaix Femmes as the breakaway group narrowly held off the chasing pack. Despite their lead being cut to just 10 seconds, the seven-strong breakaway reached the Roubaix Velodrome, where Jackson prevailed in a thrilling sprint finish. Katia Ragusa of Liv Racing TeqFind and Marthe Truyen of Fenix-Deceuninck secured second and third place, respectively, in a remarkable and unexpected podium lineup.

In 1997, Linda Jackson was third at the Tour Cycliste Féminin. The 12-day stage race, with two split stages, was the closest thing to a Tour de France for women at the time. In 2004, Jackson started a women's team that has now become EF Education-TIBCO-SVB. That team will be at the new Tour de France Femmes, starting on July 24.In this episode, Jackson discusses her career as a cyclist, the growth of her team and the new women's Tour. What can that race do for women's cycling and what can't it do? Jackson also reveals the EF Education-TIBCO-SVB's lineup for the Tour. Since the interview was taped, Magdeleine Vallières-Mill was added to the six-rider squad and Sara Poidevin was designated as a reserve rider. The rest of the lineup that Jackson reveals remains unchanged.

The answer to these questions and more are all in this fascinating episode of Matt Stephens Unplugged!
