Back on the Bus is back for a new season, and in this catch-up episode Svein and Randy settle back in like no time has passed. They talk about the realities of carving out time for life, training, and podcasting, with Randy sharing what the first eight months of fatherhood have been like and how quickly everything changes when you have a kid in the house. From there, the conversation rolls into the familiar territory that always pulls them back together: bikes, fitness, adventure, and racing. Randy talks about rediscovering some motivation through consistency and a new road bike with a power meter, while Svein reflects on why chasing fitness later in life is less about numbers and more about holding on to that feeling of being capable, strong, and ready for anything.Svein also shares stories from a huge ski mountaineering trip deep in the Monashees, where long glacier days, helicopter access, basecamp life, and big mountain terrain made for one of the standout adventures of the winter. Then the two dive into the spring Classics, unpacking Milan-San Remo, Flanders, Roubaix, Pogacar's remarkable run, the value of great teammates, and why racing looks very different when you've actually lived it from inside the bunch. They also look ahead to what's coming next, including Svein's new Jumbo Wild 600 bikepacking event in the Kootenays, the storytelling focus behind his FKT Challenges project, and a new podcast idea, The Long Game Project, built around staying fit, curious, and fully engaged as the years roll on.It's part race talk, part life update, part adventure story, and exactly the kind of conversation that makes Back on the Bus what it is.

The guys are back. IM 70.3 Geelong, Milan-Sanremo, GC T100 and a bunch of semi-relevant to quite relevant endurance sports topics.
Send us Fan MailHave we reached the peak of the Pogačar era? That's the question posed on this week's episode, following the world champion's epic crash-maybe break bike-chase-attack-attack again-outsprint Tom Pidcock victory at Milan-Sanremo, a race that was for so long Tadej's kryptonite. So, where do we go from here? And in part two, Shane Stokes catches up with one of cycling's greatest entertainers of the 2020s: Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig. The Danish dynamo has had a tough couple of years, but she's determined to return to the top. And while the old energy and spark is still there, Shane discovers there's a new pensive side to her personality – including an interest in world politics, stockbroking, and computers…
The hand injury from Milan-San Remo is a convenient distraction. The real problem is structural — Pogacar has changed what it means to race a Monument. The Cycling Brief — Daily cycling intelligence, produced by SEMIPRO CYCLING.

Last week, the International Testing Agency published the record of TUE applications for 56 sports, going back six years, and we cast our eye on some of the notable drugs, sports and cases. We explore why Growth Hormone TUEs are prevalent in gymnastics, why stimulants top the list of substances, and open up some philosophical conversations about whether TUEs should be allowed at all? Also in the show, a 'triathlon' of sports news, starting with cycling recaps of Milan San Remo where Pogacar produced an extraordinary display of dominance to win one of the two monuments missing from his resume, and from the Cape Epic, where women raced shorter distances than men this year, and we explore how the rationale for this is a little shaky. From the track, we look back at the World Indoor Championships from Poland, and in the pool, a World Record in the 50m warrants some musing on how records are fallen despite tech bans. And finally, Gareth notes with some pleasure that NFL superstars where humbled by flag football specialists, reminding us that getting to the top of any sport is not an automatic right!LinksThoughts on cycling and the need to question as read out by GarethCameron McEvoy's 50m freestyle world recordThe original ITA TUE DashboardPaper from the Olympics showing prevalence < 1% in the GamesThe study on methylphenidate's performance enhancing effectsDoes gymnastics training inhibit growth in young girls?Intensive training and growth in female gymnastsJon Pike's philosophy article on TUEs in sportWorld Boxing's statement on Lin Yu-Ting's eligibilityWatch some NFL starts get bamboozled in flag football Hosted on Acast. Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP This year's Milan San Remo might be the craziest race I've ever seen. All the tension and build-up, the favourites crashing with just 30km to go, the epic chase back from Pogi, and the fantastic duel for the win on the Via Roma. What. A. Race. Where do we even start to unpack all that?! Fortunately, as always, I'm joined by World Tour Pro, Luke Durbridge, and EF Education EasyPost Sports Director, Tom Southam, to dig into what we've just seen at San Remo, look ahead to the rest of the Spring races, and, of course, share a few good laughs along the way. Obviously, this episode kicks off with Southam, Durbo, and me digesting the men's Milan San Remo that saw a battle-scarred Tadej Pogačar clinch victory in the sprint against Tom Pidcock, with a resurgent Wout Van Aert hanging on for 3rd behind, ahead of a raging Mads Pedersen leading home the bunch. There were so many absolutely crazy moments and amazing rides from heaps of different guys in the bunch - I can't even begin to wrap it up here; you'll just have to hear us yarn all about it. This month's PeloChat is all about bunch positioning. Durbo gives us his insight into how important a rider's positioning in the peloton is, and the best ways to avoid the chaos and carnage. It was surprising to hear him say that the back of the bunch isn't actually as bad as we all thought… Southam's Talking Tactics focus this month is…well…talking tactics! How do sports directors and team leaders communicate their plans amongst the riders, and how do they ensure other teams don't find out before crunch time? Southam tells all. Our new segment returns: “Yeah…nah…”. This month is all about Cafe culture. Pre-ride coffee stop? Helmet on at the cafe? Lunch in your knicks? Yeah….nah. Finally, of course, it's the CommuniQuiz. This month it's Durbo's turn to be quiz master, and it's a full-on ‘Ashes' edition; Australia VS The UK. I take on the role of Shane Warne, and Southam has a go at being…I don't know, some Pommy. Guys, monument season is well and truly here, and what a way to start it on the weekend with a truly historic Milan San Remo. Not long to wait until Holy Week and everyone's favourite races; Flanders & Roubaix. I. Cannot. Wait. Cheers, Mitch. The Race Communiqué is brought to you by TrainingPeaks! It's a new place for us to go a bit deeper - home to Tom Southam's Director's Cuts, my Pelo Journal, and stories from inside the peloton… and a bit beyond it too!

« On connaît nos classiques », clap cinquième! Dai dai dai! No that's not a threat, that's our call to come and listen to our latest episode of The Cycling Podcast Féminin where we are taking a look at the Italian Classics block. Lizzy Banks makes her much hoped-for return to the podcast to join Rose Manley, Rebecca Charlton and Denny Gray as we discuss a drama packed Strade Bianche and an equally surprising Trofeo Binda. In our mini feature we look at the history and significance of Trofeo Binda, a race that is often overlooked in favour of races with a men's equivalent but has long been a firm favourite among the peloton. We hear from twice winner and this year's super domestique Elisa Longo Borghini, former British champ and winner of the 2018 junior race Pfeiffer Georgi and bici.PRO chief editor Enzo Vicennati. We dig deeper into the unique elements of this race, one of the oldest on the women's calendar, and explore its connection to 1920s cycling icon Alfredo Binda. And lastly we look ahead – or perhaps don't – to Milan-Sanremo and the raft of cobbled classics that follows. Also on the agenda: an Elisa Longo Borghini panino, Denny speaks Mandarin (but does he really?) and Rebecca's goes all quasi psychologist on us with a theory that encompasses Milan-Sanremo fandom and university dissertation punctuality.Follow us on social media:Twitter @cycling_podcastInstagram @thecyclingpodcastFriends of the PodcastSign up as a Friend of the Podcast at thecyclingpodcast.com to listen to new special episodes every month plus a back catalogue of more than 300 exclusive episodes. The 11.01 CappuccinoOur regular email newsletter is now on Substack. After more than three decades in the sport, George Hincapie has started a new venture this year as the founder of the UCI Pro Road Team Modern Adventure Pro Cycling. It's already gaining steam much faster than he expected — so fast, in fact, that they're headed to the Volta a Catalunya and Paris Roubaix this year. George sat down with Payson this week to talk about why he wanted to start a new team, what he hopes they will achieve in the coming years, and why he almost turned down that Roubaix invite. He also talks about his storied racing career, from his early days with the Postal Service to his famous lead-out for Mark Cavendish at Milan-San Remo in 2009 that sealed his dramatic victory. In 2025, Squamish's Elly Hoskin racked up a slew of successes: two Enduro World Cup wins, a victory at Crankworx Whistler, the world championship gold, as well as the national enduro title. Not bad for a rider in her first year as an elite rider who manages her own program, calling herself a pro privateer. In this episode of the Canadian Cycling Magazine Podcast, Elly Hoskin looks back at her breakout 2025 season and ahead to new goals in 2026. She also discusses racing here at home compared with abroad, wrenching on her own bike, race prep and strategies, the ever-evolving health of enduro (of which she sees hope and optimism) and why she sometimes doesn't know whether to say “beanie” or “tuque.” That feature interview starts at 20:00. Also in this episode, a preview of Milan-San Remo and San Remo Donne, the first Monuments of the road cycling season. MS Bike has lent its support to this episode. The organization is running 11 rides across the country this year. These are top-notch, fully supported events. The first ones are in June in Alberta. The last one is Waskesiu, Sask. The Cycling Podcast returns for another round-up of a packed and intriguing last week in professional cycling, with Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico completing their respective journeys and Milan-Sanremo on the horizon. Daniel Friebe, Lionel Birnie and Rob Hatch look first at Paris-Nice, where Jonas Vingegaard served up a timely reminder of his credentials ahead of his Giro-Tour double bid. We discuss Redbull–BORA–hansgrohe's tactics on the decisive stage to Uchon, a thrilling team time trial and Lenny Martínez's tactical masterclass on the final stage. The focus then switches to Tirreno, where good friends Isaac del Toro and Giulio Pellizzari turned rivals, with the Mexican ultimately prevailing. In the final part of the episode, we look ahead to the great cliffhanger of the spring season, Milano-Sanremo, and particularly Tadej Pogačar's latest bid to win there. There's a trip to Coorevits Corner, former winner Pippo Pozzato's advice for Pogačar, and another interview with the Slovenian's own dedicated Sanremo coach, former rider and local boy Niccolò Bonifazio. Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP Oh boy, we are just days away from Milan Sanremo. La Primavera, the first monument of the season, La Classicissima - whatever you want to call it - this race is guaranteed action every single year. This month's episode of Life In The Peloton is an absolute bumper sized deep dive into this perfect bike race from the people who know it better than anyone. We've got previous winners, podium finishers, and passionate riders that dedicate their season to this race - plus experts who know the history of this monumental affair better than anyone. We kick off with some context from master stat man - Dr Cillian Kelly. He teaches me a thing or two about the history of this race, where it sits compared to the other monuments, and why it is - statistically - the perfect bike race. Next, a guy who is possibly the most passionate person on earth about Sanremo; Max Sciandri. Max raced MSR 13 times as a professional, and has driven the race as a sports director at least the same number of times. His best finish as a rider was an agonising 4th place behind Colombo in 1996, but he dedicated his career to trying to win this beautiful race. Is there anyone who knows the 300 odd kilometers between Milan and Sanremo better than Max? I don't think so. OK That's the cruisy first 150km of the ep - now we're over the Turchino and onto the coast for the build up to the finale; it's time to hear from some riders. John Degenkolb, Matt Goss, Heinrich Haussler, and Michael Matthews. If you know Sanremo, you know that these guys are total legends of the race. Between the 4 of them they've got 2 wins, 4 podiums, and 5 other top 10 placings. What's the key to getting up there on the Via Roma? These guys will tell you. Guys, this is an episode I'm so excited about because it really feels like it takes you inside the Peloton. I only raced San Remo 2 times in my pro career, so talking to these guys who are so experienced in and passionate about this beautiful, iconic race was really eye opening. This ep will take you from your first espresso of the day right through to your evening aperitivo and tell you everything you need to know about the first monument of the season to get you hyped up for the weekend. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Cheers, Mitch This episode is sponsored by JOIN Cycling. Train smarter with adaptive plans and efficient workouts. Make a monthly pledge to become a member! In this Spotlight, we run our eye and offer our insights on the world of sport, covering a range of sporting events. We start with the Six Nations, which went beyond the wire in a spectacular tournament that shows the health of "the product". We discuss the ongoing Cape Epic, where the pairs format throws up some pacing and tactical challenges for unbalanced teams. And we preview the year's first Monument, where Tadej Pogacar will have to test and challenge Mathieu van der Poel's durability and 5-min power to win the elusive title. We discuss the requirement for Pogacar and UAE to extend the efforts above FTP and even VO2max to climbs even before the Cipressa, in order to make van der Poel vulnerable to a five minute effort on the decisive Poggio climb.Switching to running, we briefly discuss the remarkable 2:10 performance by Fotyen Tesfay in Barcelona, and why it's the de factor WR, but may be as questioned as the incumbent WR by Ruth Chep'ngetich. Another dramatic finish in Los Angeles, a marathon decided by 0.01s where the 'loser' went the wrong way, and didn't, apparently, take in a single gram of carbohydrates in the race. While on the subject of dramatic finishes, recent research shows that the odds of a cardiac arrest are significantly higher in the final kilometer of running races (20km and half marathon). We compare that to triathlons, where the odds of cardiac arrests are way higher in the first part of the race, in the swim. We discuss the physiology and emotional reasons for these risk increases. We then move into the resistance training space, to talk briefly about the American College of Sports Medicine's position stand on resistance training. It says what many people know, but challenges what a lot of people think, and the reaction has been enlightening! And finally, a few short results and discussion points from around the world of sport, including an unprecedented reversal of an entire tournament result, and a rare "defeat" (on a technicality) for Johannes Klaebo in cross-country skiingLinksRelevant to the discussion on recovery after high intensity efforts, here's an article on how our 'battery' is recharged, or reconstitutedArticle on Fotyen's 2:10:51 marathonGood insights on Fotyen from Letsrun.comThe research out of Paris showing the higher risk of cardiac events in the final kilometer of racesA similar study on cardiac arrests in triathlonThe LA Marathon finish and race are discussed in this articleThe ACSM Position Stand on Resistance TrainingStuart Phillips' posts on the ACSM Position Stand on Resistance Training Hosted on Acast. Spencer Martin and Johan Bruyneel break down the past weekend of stage racing, from Isaac del Toro's overall win at Tirreno-Adriatico to Jonas Vingegaard's dominant ride at Paris-Nice. They discuss what to read into Del Toro's effortless win in Italy, Jorgenson's strong ride for second, and Mathieu van der Poel's destruction of the peloton while training for next weekend's Milan-Sanremo. They also wonder what to make of Jonas Vingegaard's win at Paris-Nice, and what his failure to drop Lenny Martinez on the final stage means for his Grand Tour ambitions later in the year.
