What does it mean to seek a better resurrection (Hebrews 11:35)? Do you know the difference between heaven with a lot of reward and heaven with little reward? And when you think of going to heaven, what is it, exactly, that you're going there to do? This expository sermon unpacks the biblical promise of a rich entry into the eternal kingdom of Jesus Christ. In this sermon, we examine: * Why heaven is far better than an eternal vacation. It's a place of eternal fulfillment through reigning with Christ. * How the Bible's call to "make your calling and election sure" (2 Peter 1:10) connects to a richly provided entry into God's kingdom. Ephesians 3:1-13
Dr. David B. McWilliams - July 20, 2025
Ephesians 3:1-13
Preparing His Bride | Jun 21, 2025 You were chosen before the foundation of the world to fulfill God's eternal purpose on earth. This purpose isn't merely about your personal salvation—it encompasses your transformation into a dwelling place for God Himself, where His nature, character, and authority can be fully expressed through your life. **Your Identity as a Living Stone** You are called to be a living stone, built together with other believers into a spiritual house that serves as God's holy priesthood. This means your life is designed to offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. You are chosen, royal, holy, and special to God—a reality that must be believed by faith, not dependent on your experiences or feelings. **The Foundation: God's Covenant Plan** God's purpose began with Adam, who was created in innocence with the capacity to house God's presence and exercise dominion over creation. When Adam fell, God didn't abandon His plan but established a covenant with Abraham to restart this divine program. Through Abraham's lineage, God intended to raise up a people who would carry His nature and fulfill His original intention for humanity. This covenant journey culminated in Christ, who became the perfect pattern of what God intended for humanity. Christ demonstrated how to live in complete alignment with God's will, eventually becoming the seed through which God could reproduce His nature in countless others—including you. **Your Role in the Divine Partnership** Your relationship with God operates through several interconnected dimensions: - **Sonship**: You are called to mature into the full stature of Christ, moving beyond spiritual infancy into complete conformity to His image - **Priesthood**: Your daily life should function as worship, where every action, decision, and relationship reflects God's will and character - **Covenant**: You are bound to God through promises that require your active participation and obedience - **Holy Spirit**: The Spirit within you provides the power and guidance necessary to fulfill your calling - **God's Word**: Scripture serves as both your instruction manual and the transformative force that shapes your inner being **Practical Requirements for Transformation** Your journey toward spiritual maturity requires deliberate action. You must lay aside malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and evil speaking. These aren't merely suggestions—they are essential foundations for your spiritual development. Your emotions, values, and responses must be brought into alignment with God's character. Daily intimacy with God through His word is non-negotiable. Just as you consistently attend to physical needs, your spiritual growth demands consistent engagement with scripture, prayer, and meditation on God's truth. This isn't about religious duty but about developing the love relationship that makes obedience natural and joyful. **The Reality of Choice and Responsibility** You have the same opportunity that was given to Adam and Jesus—the choice to align with God's will or pursue your own path. Faith without corresponding action demonstrates that you haven't truly heard or believed God's word. When you genuinely hear and believe, you will find yourself naturally wanting to obey and act in accordance with what you've received. Your transformation affects not only your personal relationship with God but also impacts creation itself, which is waiting for mature sons of God to appear and bring divine order to the earth. **Your Ultimate Destination** You are being prepared for the day when God's dwelling with humanity is complete—when you will see Him face to face because you have been fully conformed to His image. This isn't a distant, ethereal hope but a present reality you're growing into through daily choices, consistent obedience, and progressive transformation. Your calling is magnificent: to become a perfect representation of God's nature on earth, exercising His authority, expressing His love, and serving as His dwelling place among humanity. This is your inheritance, your destiny, and your present opportunity to embrace through faith and action. An episode from Seneca Bible Baptist Church, a conservative, independent body of King James Bible believers located in Seneca Falls, New York. We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God breathed, and therefore are the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to Man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical historical meaning. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only translation used by the church (2 Tim. 3:16-17). We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—each coeternal in being, co-identical in nature, coequal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections (Deut. 6:4). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men (Phil. 2:58). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through his death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice; and, that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead (1 Peter 1:35). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate (Acts 1:910). We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins 1 Pet. 1:1819). We believe in that “blessed hope,” the personal, imminent return of Christ Who will rapture His Church prior to the seven year tribulation period. At the end of the Tribulation, Christ will personally and visibly return with His saints, to establish His earthly Messianic Kingdom which was promised to the nation of Israel (Ps. 89:34; Dan. 2:3145; 19:1116; 20:16). No matter how much wisdom we gain, how many trophies we collect, or how well we plan, we all face the same fate. It's an uncomfortable truth, but Solomon didn't shy away from it. He wrestled with a reality we all try to ignore—does any of this really matter? Welcome to The Daily. We go through the bible verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter, every single day. Our text today is Ecclesiastes 2:12-17. So I turned to consider wisdom and madness and folly. For what can the man do who comes after the king? Only what has already been done. Then I saw that there is more gain in wisdom than in folly, as there is more gain in light than in darkness. The wise person has his eyes in his head, but the fool walks in darkness. And yet I perceived that the same event happens to all of them. Then I said in my heart, “What happens to the fool will happen to me also. Why then have I been so very wise?” And I said in my heart that this also is vanity. For of the wise as of the fool there is no enduring remembrance, seeing that in the days to come all will have been long forgotten. How the wise dies just like the fool! So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind. — Ecclesiastes 2:12-17 Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, stood at the peak of human achievement. And yet, at the end of his reflection, he reached a disturbing conclusion—his wisdom and toil would eventually be left to another, whether wise or foolish. What he sees is the injustice of wisdom and toil. No matter how much effort he poured into his work and put into protecting his work, someone else would always reap the benefits. Someone else would enjoy the wealth he worked for all his life. Someone else would take his throne and do unwise things with the kingdom. And worst of all? His wisdom couldn't alter the unavoidable: both the wise and the fool share the same fate. The point? Death comes for all, erasing their memory from the minds of future generations. This reality broke Solomon. “So I hated life,” he admitted. Not because life was meaningless in itself but because its bounties were brief, passing to those who did not earn them. The temptation is to look at Solomon's words and despair, but his frustration points us to the truth: if all we labor for is under the sun, it will never satisfy. Everything we build, everything we achieve, will eventually be given to someone else. If our meaning is found in our work, we will be crushed by the reality that it won't last. We all know companies fail, businesses are sold, people are fired, careers are altered, all in the blink of an eye. But we find hope if we shift our focus above the sun—beyond this temporary world. Our labor, when accomplished for God, has eternal significance. The Apostle Paul echoes this in 1 Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” So, what do we do with this? Do we stop working, stop striving, and let life happen? No. But we must shift our perspective. So here's the challenge: Stop working for things that won't outlive you. Start investing in what will outlast you. How? Serve with eternity in mind. Work as if you are building something for God, not just yourself. Invest in people, not just projects. Prioritize relationships over rewards, faithfulness over fame, and obedience over outcomes. Whatever you do, do it for the glory of God (Colossians 3:23). If your toil is focused on earthly gain, you, like Solomon, will "Hate your toil." But if your toil is for the Kingdom, your labor is never in vain. #EternalPerspective, #WisdomFromSolomon, #WorkForGod ASK THIS: What earthly achievements do you invest in that won't last? How can you shift your focus from temporary success to eternal significance? In what ways does your work glorify God? How can you prioritize faithfulness over fame in your daily life? DO THIS: Shift your focus—serve with eternity in mind. Work as if you're building something for God, not just yourself. PRAY THIS: Lord, help me to labor for what lasts. Teach me to seek eternal significance rather than temporary gain, and to glorify You in all I do. Amen. PLAY THIS: Come Jesus Come.

This is message 22 in the Labour In The Church series. Ephesians 3:1-21 The mystery of the church, as revealed in Ephesians 3, highlights God's plan to unite Jewish and Gentile believers in one body through Christ. This previously hidden truth demonstrates the eternal purpose of the church as a central part of God's plan, bringing glory to him through unity and service. The church strengthens believers, grounds them in the love of Christ, and showcases God's wisdom and glory to the world and heavenly beings. Being part of the local church connects us to something very old, very big, and very important in God's eternal design. Send us a textWhat if one phrase in the Bible holds the key to understanding the eternal nature of Christ's sacrifice and God's divine plan? Join us as we tackle the complex theological debate surrounding "the foundation of the world" in Revelation 13:8, while Wade, also known as the Wadester, challenges the Calvinist view. We dissect Greek terminology and explore doctrines like total depravity and unconditional election, offering clarity on Calvinism's view of predestination and God's sovereignty. We journey through the scriptures, examining the beauty of God's creation as an artist crafting a masterpiece, drawing parallels to Genesis 1:1-2. By unraveling the Greek roots of "cosmos," we explore its implications for understanding divine creation and sanctification. Reflect on how these interpretations shape our understanding of being chosen in Christ before the world's foundation, and how biblical texts like Ephesians 1:4 and 1 Peter 1:20 illuminate the assurance of salvation for believers. As we weave through prophetic scriptures such as Isaiah and Psalm 22, witness the divine foresight of Christ's sacrifice long before His crucifixion. We affirm the consistent message of Christ's eternal purpose, challenging misconceptions about His identity as the Lamb of God. By dissecting the theological implications of predestination, we encourage believers to embrace their place among God's chosen, standing firm in the timeless plan of salvation intricately woven into the fabric of the world's foundation.Support the show

SUMMARY Pastor Mitchell discusses the assurance of salvation as presented in Ephesians. He emphasizes God's eternal purpose in salvation, the legal aspect of redemption through Christ's blood, and the stability that comes from understanding one's identity as a believer. The message reassures listeners of their status as children of God, marked by the Holy Spirit, and encourages them to overcome doubts and lies from the enemy. CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction to Assurance of Salvation 02:55 God's Eternal Purpose and Human Instability 05:45 The Formula for Stability in God's Purpose 08:51 The Legal Aspect of Redemption 12:11 The Assurance of Believers 15:02 The Mark of the Believer 17:53 Overcoming Lies and Doubts 21:11 God's Purpose for Humanity 24:04 Conclusion and Call to Faith TAKEAWAYS God is dedicated to our salvation and will finish what He started. Salvation was part of God's eternal purpose, not a reaction to human failure. Believers have a status and relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. Redemption is a legal transaction that requires a vicarious payment. The Holy Spirit seals believers, marking them as God's own. Assurance comes from knowing one's name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life. The devil's accusations are lies; believers are free from condemnation. God's purpose for humanity is good, providing a future and hope. Believers can overcome doubts by relying on God's promises. The blood of Jesus provides assurance and victory over sin. The rise of the Jewish roots movement and the emphasis on Jewish customs can lead to a misunderstanding of the role of the Church. The name of Jesus holds tremendous power and should be revered and proclaimed. The Church is God's chosen instrument to bring together Jews and Gentiles and fulfill His eternal purpose. Sound Bites "The name Jesus has tremendous power and resonates in the hearts of those who know Him."
