In Métis author Conor Kerr's new novel, Prairie Edge, a herd of stolen bison get tangled up in a scheme orchestrated by a fiery Indigenous activist and her aimless young companion. The stunt turns dangerous in a hurry. Kerr's story dives into two very different Indigenous communities in Edmonton, Alberta through protagonists, Grey and Ezzy, who share a drive for positive change and reconnecting with the land. With both satire and sorrow, Prairie Edge builds readers' understanding of Indigenous resilience and indignation. Kerr joins us for this installment of Native Bookshelf, our feature on current Indigenous books and authors.

Let's be clear. Abuse is not always physical. Abuse is any time someone is making you think, feel, or do something you otherwise wouldn't. Has recovering from a recent terrible and abusive relationship been hell for you? In this episode, Rachel explains what you can expect to be the hardest part of recovering from an abusive relationship, and, you'll know how to begin easing your way into healing. In Ezzy's session, she describes what life is like post-breakup with her abusive ex. Leanna Keith knew the flute was her instrument. But she was discouraged from trying it in middle school by a white teacher who said her anatomy (a teardrop lip) would not allow her to master the instrument. Today, she is a professional musician, breaking the mold with her contemporary flute performances. This story looks at the uniqueness of our individual anatomies and what it's like to be made to feel imperfect. Ten Thousand Things is produced by KUOW in Seattle. Meet Deanna Ezzy, the brains behind Canberra broking firm, More Than Mortgages. She's been named the top female broker in the ACT for an impressive six consecutive years but also on the national scene with a Top 100 ranking for eight straight years. De's been helping her clients get the keys to their dream homes without selling a kidney for over 14 years. I've seen her eyes light up when she finds a way to make home ownership more accessible, or save someone thousands of dollars on their mortgage so they can take a trip and make memories. I first met De at the gym when I was a personal trainer. She was driven and loved a good challenge, which is still true to this day as she hikes the Himalayas and helps educate young girls in Nepal. She loves salsa dancing, golf, and belting out a ballad at karaoke, and from the moment I heard that she once gave her nail lady extra money to send to her family, I've seen De's generous spirit shine in everything she does. She's also a great friend of our studio, and we love working with someone who will let us put Beyonce lyrics on her front windows. In this episode we chat about how her recent long service leave helped her reset on life and work prioroties. She told me about the way she's continually evolving processes in the business, and how she embraces failure. Better yet, how it allows her to be authentically herself. ----- Connect with us: www.instagram.com/trishjohnnstone www.instagram.com/oathandstonedesigns www.morethanmortgages.com.au www.facebook.com/morethanmortgagesaustralia
I'm looking for 10 busy-ass women who are anxious, and want to go to counseling but don't have the time or resources. If this is you.. I have something for you that will change your life in 21 days. Click here to be the first to hear about it: I am a busy-ass woman with anxiety. Have you ever wondered why people stay in an abusive relationship? Maybe you have someone in your life who repeatedly mistreats you… but you still have hope they will change. Why do you think you have hope, when they've shown you they will not, or cannot, change? In this episode, Rachel explains how one of the hallmarks of an abuser is the inability to change. She explores several reasons why you still hope your abuser will change, even when rationally, you know they will not. By the end of the episode, you'll know what to do with the hope that you feel... And surprise! The answer isn't to just leave your abusive partner. In Ezzy's most recent counseling session, she recounts what her abusive relationship looked like - and how she gave it just one more chance… and was then disappointed. How anxious are you (for real)? Find out in 5 super-quick questions.

Effie knew something was “off” with Ford from the day he was born, four years ago. After four months of being blown off by his pediatrician, Ford was admitted to the children's hospital where he was analyzed and given an official (and extremely rare) diagnosis. Effie was completely blindsided and crushed. In this episode, Effie shares this experience of receiving Ford's diagnosis. We also chat about the huge perspective-shift that comes along with a child with medical complexities—the little things are everything. Effie also talks about the precious relationship Ford shares with his younger sister Ezzy, as well as the bittersweet moments of watching Ezzy develop typically. I recorded the show prior to finding the perfect name for this podcast. The new name of the show is "The Rare Hour" with Christopher Velona. I dedicate this new beginning to our premier guest… Mrs. Effie Parks Effie Parks was born in the magical land of Montana, where she was raised with her 12 loving siblings. After moving to Washington and marrying her husband, Casey, they were blessed with the birth of their son, Ford Canon Parks. When she learned that Ford had been born with an extremely rare genetic condition – CTNNB1 syndrome – she dove into the world of advocacy. Effie also has a daughter, Ezzy age 3, who gives her a run for her money in the speaking category. Effie is also the host of her own podcast, Once Upon a Gene, where she speaks to others about their journey through life with rare diseases. You can check out Effie's current work through these links below! https://www.curectnnb1.org/ https://ctnnb1-foundation.org/our-team/ www.effieparks.com https://www.thedisordercollection.com/
