Dr. Salima Ikram is an Egyptologist and Archeologist. Thanks for joining Behind Greatness. We recorded this chat “coincidentally” on the opening day of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), October 16 2024. Salima graciously joined us from Cairo to have this conversation that day. Salima decided on Egyptology at age 8 and “hasn't grown up since”. We learn about experimental archeology, puppy farms, slavery, cattle vs elephants and Egyptian cocktails. Salima brings us through her fascination with mummification, felines and their majesty, “chatting with the dead” and how death is viewed in the East. And more… A fun, magical cat … uhm, we mean chat. He is best known for his religious reforms, placing the Aten, the god representing the disc of the sun, above all others. Akhetaten/Amarna: The capital city of Akhenaten. It remained the capital for about 14 years. Following Akhenaten's death, his successors, including his son Tutankhamun, moved the capital back to Thebes. Bastet: A goddess in Egypt, daughter of Ra in Egyptian mythology. Before 1000 BC, she was commonly depicted as a lioness and was a powerful warrior. However, from around 1000 BC onwards, she was also shown with a cat head, representing a tamer form. In the second part, I will review the film and rate it out of ten. Email: mummymoviepodcast@gmail.com Names and TermsKa (kꜢ) = Part of the Egyptian soul. After death, the Ka could enter likenesses of the deceased. The Ka needed to be sustained by food and drink, and as such, likenesses of the deceased could receive offerings. Ba (bꜢ) = Part of the Egyptian Soul. This is similar to an individual's unique personality. After death, the Ba could leave the tomb and also travel between the land of the living and the land of the dead. However, it had to return to the body each night to help the Ka receive sustenance. Charles Harbison relaunched Harbison Studio in 2022, six years after putting the luxury fashion brand on pause. And it's already clear that, this time around, he's doing things differently.   “I'm building a brand with more authenticity,” Harbison said on the latest episode of the Glossy Podcast. “I've tried to do it before in the way that everyone said I should do it. And it just was not for me.” Harbison was thrust into helming a fashion brand in 2013, when he launched Harbison Studio after an unexpected chain of events while between jobs: To avoid holes in his portfolio, after working 7-8 years for brands including Michael Kors and Billy Reid, he created and photographed a small fashion collection. He showed those to two advisors, who showed them to Vogue editors, which led to placement in Vogue's September issue and an order from Ikram, Chicago's influential boutique.  “In some ways, the cart was before the horse,” Harbison said. “I hate to say that because, in my perfect world, talent, craft and a love of fashion is the horse. But in our world now, with fashion, money's always the horse. And that is what I quickly learned over those two years of making clothes that I love, but not really building a business.” Eventually, Harbison decided to step away from the brand, which had already gained fans including Michelle Obama and Beyoncé. But he'd always planned to return: “I moved to L.A. to regroup and center my wellness, but the thing that never left me was the fact that women love what I do. And there are so many people in the world who relate to it. [I knew that] one day, I'd come back and resume my conversation with them through clothes.”  Shortly after New York Fashion Week, in early October, Harbison met with Glossy to share how his return to fashion is playing out. Along with hinting at a new Bergdorf Goodman partnership, he promoted an active friends and family funding round. He plans to use the funds to expand his team and the brand's product categories — it's recently inched into jewelry and handbags, and shoes are next.

Click below for full episode transcript: Jaz's Introduction: When I qualified from dental school, I was really into restorative, but the part of restorative I was most into was actually endodontics. In fact, I actually did quite a lot of root canals when I was a dental student. Jaz's Introduction:And the funny story is that because of orthodontics, I actually lost vitality of my four lower incisors.I had root canals from specialists for all my lower four incisors. So I actually experienced root canal treatment as a patient while I was a dental student. And also having really inspirational tutor and someone called Dr. Stephen Godfrey at dental school meant that I was actually really looking at these postgraduate options for specializing in endodontics as one of my serious career considerations. I went on to win the Tom Pitt-Ford prize, which is given to like one student per dental school every year. And I also won like this runner up prize in the Julian Webber Harley Street prize. And I was basically about submitting a case. And I did an MTA case back when I was a DCT in Sheffield. That was pretty cool. Using a scope, learning how to do simple retreatments. So I was on the path to really consider endodontics. Now fast forward 10 years. And my favorite type of endodontics is the referral pad. Okay, I'm joking but I'm kind of not joking because it's not my favorite thing to do anymore. I do TMD, I do restorative, I do occlusal stuff, tooth wear, and I get a lot of joy from that. Root canals is low down in my pecking order and one of the reasons I'm so keen to refer to my specialist colleagues is how long it takes me and I'm thinking if this tooth is going to take two hours with me and it's going to take one hour and 15 minutes with the specialist and they'll probably do a better job than I will. Then it just makes sense to see a specialist, right? If the patient can afford it, great. And also, in terms of an hourly rate, like GDPs doing endodontics that are particularly tricky and pushing boundaries and spending longer on it, it just doesn't make sense as a financial point of view. Because if your patient is paying for your time, then they may end up paying you more than the endodontist. And that just is bizarre. That should never happen, right? So I'm more than happy to rely on my endodontic colleagues. The way that this ties in to the superstar guest that we have today, Dr. Omar Ikram, who I'm sure many of you know of. He's very prolific on social media. He puts out such good stuff to the world in terms of being helpful in our endodontic treatments. He's very giving with his time and knowledge. So it's a great pleasure to have on Dr. Omar Ikram today. And I was thinking, what could I ask him? There's so many different topics that we could ask him. There's some topics I've already covered on the show when it comes to endodontics. And I thought it'd be a really good one about how to make root canals more efficient.
