Thank you for listening to the Left of Str8 Show, hosted by Scott Fullerton. The Left of Str8 Show was created for the LGBTQ Community and our Straight Allies, and we interview celebrities and personalities from the worlds of Entertainment, Foodies, Books, and Advocacy. We post individual interviews and full podcasts featuring the news of the day. Please share with your friends, follow us on social media @leftofstr8 and if you like us, please give our episodes a 5 star rating so more people will find them in the Algorithm. We are kicking off "Writers Week" here on the Left of Str8 Show, with 4 authors whose unique voices have contributed to our LGBTQ experience. Two of the authors have new works being released this month, one's work is being turned into a new Netflix series, and our fourth is a profile of a book series I am finding very interesting in the Horror/Supernatural Genre. My second interview for writers week is with a good friend of the show, Greg Cope White. Greg is a fellow foodie, television and movie writer, and author of the great memoir, "The Pink Marine," that is being turned into a streaming series. Unfortunately, because of the ongoing writer strike, we found out after the interview was done that Greg cannot speak about the series until the strike is settled, so that part has been cut out of this interview and we will play it plus more with hopefully some of his cast and crew once the strike has been settled. The Pink Marine has some amazing stories of Greg growing up and how he enlisted in the Marines with his best friend. We also talk about Greg as a foodie, his old blog and how he romantically eats dinner with his boyfriend almost every night they whenever they are apart, on Skype, for the last 15 years as his boyfriend lives in Montreal. We also talk about some of the great eating in New Orleans where the series based on his book is being filmed. Be sure to follow Greg online @gregcopewhite1 and check out his website at www.thepinkmarine.com for great content and interaction with Greg. Please give this interview a thumbs up here on YouTube and a 5 star rating on your favorite podcast distributor, and share with your friends so we can keep sharing great LGBTQ Content with you all. Thanks.......Scott

In this week's episode of Diary of an Actress, Rachel & Max chat with writer and producer Greg Cope White about his life as a "Pink Marine", military what happens inside "the writer's room", veteran actors and how to bring your best self into the audition room.
At first glance, you may think me the inveterate bon vivant (which I am) and not the man in camouflage who can command troops and hit a target five hundred yards away with an M16 (which I can do). Back when I was a skinny, insecure eighteen-year-old, I enlisted in (um, I cheated to pass the physical) the pre-DADT United States Marine Corps. To be honest, I had no idea what I was doing joining the toughest branch of our armed forces. I even lied on the enlistment papers about my sexuality. I had to; being gay in the military was illegal. Out was not in.

Greg Cope White was a skinny, scrawny, gay teen when he joined the Marines- back when being gay would get a soldier dishonorably discharged. So why did he enlist? Greg's best friend had enlisted. What dude doesn’t want to go to “summer camp” with his best friend? Please welcome this week’s special guest as he breaks down 13 weeks hiding in a barracks without a closet, soaring to Private First Class, moving to NYC instead of becoming JAG, meeting and working with Norman Lear, writing for TV, his upcoming Netflix Original film, his upcoming television series, and his hysterically funny memoir that celebrates patriotism and perseverance: “The Pink Marine- One Boys Journey Through Boot Camp to Manhood.”
Have you ever had to unfollow a co-worker? Has the internet helped you find a long lost relative? How addicted to Facebook are you? Watching this show will prove that you can quit at any time. Acclaimed author, TV writer (for Norman Lear) and food network star, Greg Cope White opens up about his journey as a young gay man sneaking into the United States Marine Corps. His dramatic story inspired by the headlines of bullied young kids choosing to end their life will move you and tug on your humanity. His book, The Pink Marine is the story—full of hilarity and heartbreak—of how a teenage boy who struggles with self-acceptance and doesn’t fit the traditional definition of manliness finds acceptance and self-worth in Marine Corps boot camp.
Greg Cope White is a produced television writer. He also steps in front of the camera and hosts. The Pink Marine, his first book, just came out in November, 2015. Dennis visits the Santa Monica home of writer and TV personality Greg Cope White to talk about Greg's new book, The Pink Marine, about the months he spent in basic training as a marine back in the day. Greg talks about the pressure to keep his gayness a secret, bonding with his fellow soldiers, his relationship to guns, sleeping with at least one and the unforgettable catchphrase that gives this episode its name. Greg talks about his blog Eat Greg Eat has led to appearances on the Food Network and why people on cooking shows always take "manageable bites." Other topics include: being a television writer in Hollywood, collecting art, keeping that hair bouncing and behaving, his lowest point professionally, getting blurbed by Christopher Atkins, and his long relationship with Norman Lear, who wrote the forward for Greg's book.
