In 1978, director/writer John Carpenter and writer/producer Debra Hill unleashed a film that would go on to become the film to help lay the groundwork for what would later be referred to as the slasher genre; a film revered by aficionados as a classic of the genre - that film was HALLOWEEN. That film would also go on to spawn a sprawling franchise complete with blood relations, cults, androids, alternate timelines, reboots, remakes and so much more. On this very special episode we're taking a deep dive into the HALLOWEEN franchise where we'll be discussing our feelings on the franchise as a whole, and where we see the ever popular Michael Myers going after the more recent conclusion in the latest trilogy. It's time to get Spooky!

The date this episode drops, 28th April 2022, would've been the 100th birthday of Nigel Kneale, the great pioneer of SF/horror TV and film, who died in 2006. Here, in an extract from our forthcoming episode on Kneale's film version of Quatermass and the Pit (1967), renowned horror author Simon Clark tells Dan the story of how he found the script books of Kneale's 1950s Quatermass serials in a second-hand bookshop and why they are so important to him. To hear the full version of this interview, in which Simon discusses in detail not just the three script books but also Kneale's other literary works, sign up to our Patreon page. Look back through our podcast feed and on our website, andnowpodcast.com, to find our earlier Kneale-themed content: our Missed Classic on Beasts: During Barty's Party (1976) and our Halloween Retrospective on Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982), and Dan's written appreciation of The Woman in Black (1989).

In 1978, a little known director by the name of John Carpenter relinquished Halloween on an unsuspecting public. At the time, it was the most profitable independent film of all time, and is credited with beginning what came to be known as the slasher era of horror. After sequel upon sequel was released to mixed results, with the cultivation being the Busta Rhymes starring Halloween Resurrection in 2002, people thought the legend of Michael Myers was done forever. Even horror lover Rob Zombie failed to leave a positive lasting impression with his two retellings of the Michael mythos in the 2000s. Sometimes I look at the year and cannot believe what I'm seeing happen around it. For example, Michael Myers had a run in the late 70s-late 80s where he was one of our most popular slashers. But when the 90s made him pretty much obsolete, everyone counted him out of making a comeback. Rob Zombie's attempts -at least the first one- to resurrect the character and story was a hit with audiences. But after his second film wasn't what people were expecting, Myers was once again put on ice. Yet, 2018 saw him once again set the box office afire with the simply titled Halloween, and this new one is already tripling its budget in box office take. How is this possible, and is this success warranted with a good film? Listen in as I once again welcome filmmakers Doug Wicker and Jason Morris to continue our look at the Halloween franchise with this review of Halloween Kills, and then make it known whether we really want this franchise to End, which it supposedly is doing next year. PS - If you are a fan of Millennium or even just the X-Files, be sure to check out Morris's documentary Millennium After The Millennium, Halloween Kills (2021) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10) CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW! It's time to return to our series of Halloween franchise reviews, recorded back in 2018. Dan and Howard are joined by returning guests Luke Richards (actor and writer-star of the upcoming Halloween fan film, One Night in Haddonfield) and Spider-Dan (host of the podcast Spider-Dan and the Secret Bores) for a spoiler-filled discussion of Rob Zombie's 2007 reboot of the franchise. "You don't believe in the boogeyman... you should." In this episode, Amber and Mike finally get through the last of the Halloween franchise, H20, Resurrection, Rob Zombie's 1 &2 and of course the latest, Halloween (2018).
Xavier and Mike are back with a Halloween retrospective reviewing every Michael Myers movie in the franchise started by John Carpenter.
Happy Halloween everybody! It's the latest episode of our Halloween retrospective, as Howard and Dan turn their attention to the FIRST return (well, third if you count Halloween II as a return... although actually it never happened according to Halloween 2018 - never mind) of Laurie Strode, from 1998. For the first time, their usual Halloween review sidekick Spider-Dan couldn't make this one, but his boots are ably filled by actor Luke Richards. And yes, everybody calls the film 'H-Two-Oh', not 'H-Twenty', which is the only sensible way to read that title, but the damage done by the original marketing campaign can never be repaired, and it all started with the voiceover on the film's trailer - as you'll hear. Does anybody else wish they'd just called it 'Halloween 1998'? Elsewhere, it's half-term, so Kirsty and Stella are able to rejoin Dan to chat over some news from horror and life, share some recommendations for Halloween weekend - and record a Missed Classic which we'll be releasing in a few weeks... It's time for another in our series of Halloween film reviews, freed at last from the 2018 vault which houses all of the recordings that Howard and Dan made in the run-up to the release of Halloween (2018). We previously announced that this episode would be a Missed Classic episode on Fulci's The Black Cat with special guest Spider-Dan. However, circumstances have forced us to shift things around, and so here is the fourth of our series reviewing every film in the Halloween franchise, featuring the return of Howard and a guest appearance from... none other than Spider Dan. So you do get him after all. This part of the episode was recorded back in 2018, before any of those present had seen David Gordon Green's then-new franchise rebootquel. However, this chat is bookended by some up-to-date segments with Stella and Dan discussing news and recommendations from the world of horror. In this episode I will continue the Halloween Retrospective by looking at Halloween 4 The Return of Michael Myers!
A special, extra-long, extra-in-depth podcast about the reviled non-sequel turned cult classic, which we've been working on for some time. As part of their series of discussions about every single film in the Halloween franchise in 2018, Howard and Dan recorded a chat with returning Halloween review guests, Steve Timms and Spider-Dan, and you can hear that in this episode. But also in 2018, uber-Halloween III fan Dave Moore held a fan screening of the film in Bury, Lancashire, UK. Dan was present to talk to Dave about his love for the film and his merchandise collection, and to talk with a group of fans after the screening about their reactions to seeing the film again on the big screen, and this episode presents those discussions too. Plus, the show is bookended by a new 2020 chat between Kirsty and Dan, picking out some horror recommendations from UK TV and streaming services, and shining a light on a remarkable new short 'lockdown horror' film, currently available to watch for free online, from director Rob Savage. If you go to our home on YouTube, the Ambidextrous Solutions Limited channel, you can see a short video showing highlights from the screening discussion and from Dave's Halloween III collection. Following yesterday's upload of our previously-released discussion on 1978's Halloween, and ahead of tomorrow's brand new special on 1982's Halloween III: Season of the Witch, it made sense to add our show on 1981's Halloween II to our new podcast feed. The discussion was previously released on YouTube in 2018. For this chat, which also takes in a broad discussion of the vast genre of slasher films that came into being following the success of Halloween, regular presenters Howard and Dan are joined by actor Rob Stuart-Hudson and, returning from the previous episode, Spider-Dan, of the Spider-Dan and the Secret Bores podcast. All soundtrack clips are used for the purposes of criticism, in the spirit of Fair Dealing (UK law) and Fair Use (US law). No copyright infringement is intended.
In 2018, accompanied by a number of special guests, Howard and Dan recorded podcast discussions of every single film in the long-running Halloween franchise, but only the first two were actually made public (they're on our YouTube channel). Soon all of the remaining discussions will be released as on this podcast feed, so for completion's sake, it seemed sensible that the YouTube episodes be included too. And so, here is the first. To discuss director John Carpenter's 1978 classic Halloween, Howard and Dan are joined by writer/artist Steve Timms and the 'ever-Amazing, ever-Spectacular' Spider-Dan (presenter of the comic book podcast Spider-Dan and the Secret Bores). The four of them enjoyed talking at great length and detail about a film close to all of their hearts (this podcast is, after all, significantly longer than the film it's about). We hope you enjoy it too. All soundtrack clips from the film are used for the purposes of criticism, in the spirit of Fair Dealing (UK law) and Fair Use (US law). No copyright infringement is intended. Come visit our website, www.andnowpodcast.com.

We complete our 2018 Halloween Retrospective with the brand-new reboot movie Halloween.
One of Nate's all-time favorite franchises is the Halloween series. So, with the release of Blumhouse's newest Halloween movie, Nate and Josh do a deep dive on the series!
In onze eerste deel van de retrospective gaan we doorheen John Carpenter's Halloween tot en met Halloween Ressurection. ALLEMAAL INCLUSIEF SPOILERS!
Bob, Cody, and Kim discus the Halloween series as a whole, from 1978's original to our expectations for the new film (we've not seen it at the time) and the highs and lows between. Also a little about the first guest for 2019's Crypticon Seattle guest!
We continue our Halloween Retrospective, focusing on the strangest continuity of the Halloween franchise, with Halloween: The Curse of Michael Meyers AKA Halloween 6 or Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers. The movie features the screen debut of Paul Rudd-- who gives a truly odd performance as the obsessed Tommy Doyle-- and the final screen performance of Donald Pleasence, who once again portrays the equally-obsessed Sam Loomis. We are barreling towards this month’s release of the 2018 reboot Halloween, which we'll have an episode on later this month.
We continue our countdown to the Halloween reboot with the second part of the continuity-crazed "Thorn Trilogy" of the original series: Halloween 5, which continues the strange psychic connection between Michael Meyers and his young niece.
Adam and Trey review John Carpenter's Halloween and discuss some news including the Vice trailer and Russian Bots controlling Star Wars reviews. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/supercast-64-podcast-network/support
This week we kick off a return to our Halloween Retrospective with Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Meyers. In anticipation of the 2018 reboot which we'll be covering when it comes out, we're doing the deepest cut in Halloween continuity-- the so-called "Thorn Trilogy" of Halloween 4, 5 and 6. Join us!
Mike and Ricky continue their Halloween Retrospective with guest NY Times Best Selling writer Marc Andreyko.
It's time to look back at the Halloween Franchise, and boy do we have a lot to look back at! We'll try to sort out the multiple universes within the franchise, debate whether or not Michael is actually evil incarnate, and talk more about the film cars than anyone probably should. We'll also talk with Amanda and Julia from Spirits podcast to learn some actual Celtic mythology (which, unsurprisingly, is nothing like the movies). Check them out at https://www.spiritspodcast.com/
