Francisco Jiménez, abogado y vicepresidente de la Asociación de Afectados por Criptomonedas, asegura que el fenómeno va más allá de IM Academy. "Estamos continuamente recibiendo casos y detectando 'criptosectas'". España, un país que lidera el paro juvenil en Europa, es terreno abonado para los grupos que promueven prácticas "simplificadoras" y "rápidas aparentemente" para conseguir ser rico, razona el psicólogo Miguel Perlado.Las redes sociales y las aplicaciones de mensajería instantánea, principalmente Instagram y Telegram, funcionan como sus altavoces.
