FOX Sports' lead College Football analyst Joel Klatt reacts to the latest set of College Football Playoff Rankings. He begins by discussing the Notre Dame-Miami conundrum as the Irish come in at #9 while the team that beat them in Week 1, Miami, sits at #13. He explains how the Committee is protecting themselves from a difficult conversation with those two teams with their rankings. Klatt then looks at the paths for 3 blue bloods: #15 USC, #17 Texas & #18 Michigan and explains how viable each path is should they win their final games. How high would USC jump with a win at Oregon this weekend? Would a win over A&M be enough to launch Texas back into the Playoff picture and would a 5th straight win over #1 Ohio State send the Wolverines into the CFP? 0:00-2:02 Intro2:03-5:47 Klatt's reaction to November 18th rankings5:48-11:31 What does the gap between Notre Dame and Miami mean for the Hurricanes' at large chances?11:32-22:01 What are the CFP paths for USC, Texas and Michigan?22:02-24:31 Overall takeaways from CFP rankings Use my code for 10% off your next SeatGeek order*: https://seatgeek.onelink.me/RrnK/KLATT10Sponsored by SeatGeek. *Restrictions apply. Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano got asked a very interesting question at his press conference this week: Do the Scarlet Knights have a little bit of an edge this weekend when they play at Ohio State because the Buckeyes might be looking ahead to next weekend's game against arch-rival Michigan? Schiano has some real insight in this area, after serving as Ohio State's defensive coordinator in 2017 and 2018. In this special bonus episode of the Buckeyes TomOrrow Morning podcast, you'll hear the answer to that and several other great questions about the Buckeyes, Rutgers, and this weekend's game, directly from Schiano.
In Hour 2, Isaac and Suke argue about whether or not this is the worst Heisman class ever, tell people to stop pushing stupid Shadeur Sanders narratives, and more.

Another week, another too-close-for-comfort win for Michigan football. And even still, the Wolverines are right on track for an epic clash against Ohio State to determine the College Football Playoff. Michigan turned the ball over five times and needed a last second field goal to beat Northwestern, but it still goes in the win column, much like the ugly Purdue game the week before or the MSU one the week before that. Tony and Andrew open the show by discussing why this Michigan football team is hard to understand, before talking about some real positives from the win over Northwestern (looking at you, Andrew Marsh). Then the guys quickly discuss the Maryland matchup and what's at stake. After the break (22:51) the guys dive into Michigan football's threat of conference independence from Michigan Board of Regents member Jordan Acker. If the private equity-Big Ten deal goes through, is Michigan football really a candidate to become the next Notre Dame? In this episode, Angus Fletcher explains why the human brain doesn't work like a computer and why our deepest strengths come not from logic or data processing but from imagination, emotion, and the ability to invent new futures. Drawing on neuroscience, Shakespeare, evolutionary biology, and his work with U.S. Army Special Operations, Fletcher shows how storytelling is the brain's oldest "technology," why intelligence is rooted in action rather than analysis, and what most people get wrong about creativity and common sense. Angus Fletcher is a professor of story science at Ohio State's Project Narrative, the world's leading academic think tank dedicated to understanding how stories work. He earned his PhD from Yale, conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford, and in 2023 received the U.S. Army's Commendation Medal for his groundbreaking work with Army Special Operations on primal intelligence. He has also written screenplays for major Hollywood studios and networks. His new book is Primal Intelligence: You Are Smarter Than You Know.

Detroit Sports Podcast -- The Michigan Podcast This episode --Can Bryce Underwood be fixed before The Game? Steve Deace dives deep on this week's Michigan Podcast! After back-to-back duds vs. Michigan State and Purdue, the true freshman QB is regressing. Steve lays out the data: Michigan's offense has systemically improved, but Bryce's stats are nearly identical to last year's QBs. Joined by Mark Rogers of The Voice of College Football, they debate QB development, Ohio State's elite defense, and why weather could be Michigan's X-factor!
Ohio State was again without Carnell Tate, used Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs sparingly, and still beat the brakes off of UCLA at the Shoe Saturday night. Things went more or less as expected, even if Ryan Day seemed aggravated with the offense's start to the second half. Maybe some of the mojo rubbed off on the special teams, though, because the Buckeyes recorded a blocked punt and a kickoff return for a touchdown on the evening. We looked back at our score predictions, broke down all the key players/moments/stats from the game, and checked on our picks to click to see how they performed. (Spoiler: they did well.) After yapping about the Buckeyes for a bit, we turned our attention to the rest of the Big Ten. There were some top-notch games over the weekend, including Iowa at USC and Michigan needing a last-second field goal to avoid a loss to Northwestern at Wrigley Field. Penn State got its first Big Ten win, while Michigan State and Purdue did not. We looked ahead to this weekend's slate of games in the conference, and USC-Oregon is a critical game for the Trojans' hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff. Northwestern will be playing for bowl eligibility. Finally, we looked forward to Saturday at noon, when the Rutgers Scarlet Knights visit Columbus. Greg Schiano's defense has not been up to its usual standard this year, and we expect the OSU offense to continue to put points on the board. Hopefully, the Buckeyes will be able to rest some key starters for most or all of the game, but it's important to maintain momentum heading into The Game. We look at Rutgers offensive weapons and defensive rankings, make our picks to click, and try our best to predict Saturday's final score. We would love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email at silverbulletspod@gmail.com Any questions directed toward us will be answered on our next show.Be sure to subscribe, rate, review, share, and follow the show over on Twitter at @SilvrBulletsPod.As always, thanks for listening! 0:20 - UCLA with Nico Iamaleava might have been interesting at times, but with a backup quarterback, it was almost over before it started. 21:31 - A look around the rest of the B1G. Offense vs Northwestern Starts at :51 This doesn't even qualify as a top five weird Northwestern game (we list our top five). This week's snack of the week is organic pumpkin seeds. On one level, this kinda looked like Michigan's best game of the year on offense and defense. Michigan comes out slinging it and Bryce's confidence seemed like it was at another level, but he made young mistakes. What happened on Bryce's sacks? Playing Northwestern always kinda feels like they have your signs. Michigan was able to counter some of Northwestern's defensive counters. Most of the mistakes are coming from freshmen which is just something that happens. Missed cuts on zone is whatever but missed cuts on power isn't good. Bryson Kuzdzal came in and did just fine. Bryce's scrambles were pretty good and mostly improvisation, his interceptions were freshman stuff. Safeties were baiting him, can he anticipate that in the future? The first interception was not understanding how to read the coverage, the second one was just needing to throw the ball better. Andrew Marsh made the Michigan catch of the year, you have a dedicated receiver going into next year. You could have 12 of 14 boxes in a great position next year. Andrew Marsh is the best freshman receiver since... Manningham? How much does this performance mean against Ohio State? The reverse fumble is on Chip Lindsey. [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Defense vs Northwestern Starts at 44:15 Northwestern came into this game with a pretty good ground game and they got stuffed. This was a good game to run the 5-2 in, Northwestern is on the opposite end of the spectrum from USC. Northwestern's gamesmanship cost them two false starts, Michigan tipped what they were running multiple times. The defensive backs got beat a few times but sometimes a receiver just makes a nice play over you. You probably don't want to put Zeke Berry on Jeremiah Smith, Jyaire Hill is getting his star back. Brandyn Hillman tackled with his arms! He's grown as a much more mature player over the season. They're defending screens now! TJ Metcalf body-slammed a guy. 3. Hot Takes, Game Theory, and Special Teams Starts at 1:08:55 Takes hotter than suburban Chicago in mid-November. There seems to be differing views on how much people liked this venue for a football game. The camera shots were weird. Seth and Dave think the inside of the stadium is magical, Brian not so much. It might've actually been 90% Michigan fans. They did the best they could with clock management at the end of the first half. What about timeouts at the end of the second half? Zvada kicked the ball into the street outside of the stadium. Brian takes responsibility for the missed field goals by changing the preview. Semaj got replaced, he's a better player than he's performed but he may be overdue for a mental health break. 4th down decisions. NFL calculator says there's a complete coin flip in decision making. It shouldn't be a holding call if you're getting your ass kicked. Semaj was on the ground with the ball but they didn't overturn the fumble? There's no transparency between officiating and the fans, other conferences and sports are getting better at it. 4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:59:37 USC 26, Iowa 21 Iowa jumped out to a nice lead but scored zero points in the second half. The Hawkeyes lost three offensive linemen. The universe is paying them back for all the 10 win seasons they had no business having. USC is now a legitimate playoff contender. Indiana 31, Wisconsin 7 This was a sludge fart for Indiana in the first half but put it away in the second. Wisconsin is one of the worst Big Ten offenses ever contemplated. Most of Wisconsin's offense was off of a couple weird plays. Penn State 28, Michigan State 10 A rock fight between two of the worst teams in the league. Michigan State had 15 wins over the last three years... well at least they did. Penn State won the very ugly trophy which might actually be the best trophy and they looked like they really wanted it. Illinois 24, Maryland 6 Maryland is not even trying to run the ball anymore. Illinois ground them to a pulp. Don't throw at Maryland, just run them over. Washington 49, Purdue 13 Washington doubles Purdue in yardage and most of that was likely garbage time for Purdue. Oregon 42, Minnesota 13 This feels like danger zone for PJ Fleck. They could lose to Wisconsin?? Ohio State 48, UCLA 10 UCLA is without Nico in this game, their backup has never thrown a college pass. UCLA is moving out of the Rose Bowl?? MUSIC: "Slow Burn"—The Rose City Band "Swans"—Maston "Optimism"—Jana Horn “Across 110th Street”—JJ Johnson and his Orchestra
Oklahoma is now in prime position to make the CFP for the first time since 2019, Georgia looks like they are peaking at the right time, Texas A&M continues to find ways to win and the SEC's path to getting 5 teams in the CFP is becoming very clear. Plus, there were dominating performances from Ohio State, Indiana, Miami and Texas Tech. Ohio State men’s basketball beat reporter Adam Jardy recaps the 64-63 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on the latest episode of the BuckeyeXtra basketball podcast. During this edition, we provide our takeaways from this matchup and talk about what we learned from watching the Buckeyes.
Our very special guest today is Angus Fletcher, professor of story science at Ohio State's Project Narrative. His research has been called “life-changing” by Brené Brown and “mind blowing” by Malcolm Gladwell; has been endorsed by psychologists, neuroscientists, and doctors such as Martin Seligman and Antonio Damasio; and has been supported by institutions ranging from the National Science Foundation to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2023, he was awarded the Commendation Medal by the U.S. Army for his “groundbreaking research” with U.S. Army Special Operations into primal intelligence. His latest book is called Primal Intelligence: You Are Smarter Than You Know. There are very few books or writers who have affected me as much as Angus and this book have. In the few weeks since I have read it, my coaching has changed. My thoughts about intuition, imagination and emotion have changed. I've watched close to 20 videos featuring Angus on youtube… and I don't typically ever watch that many videos about one person. Dr. Fletcher says that as humans, we think in story, not in words or pictures. He has plenty of research and street cred to back this up. Hollywood studios consult with him regularly. In addition to everything else, he's a screenwriter, and a very compelling author. I could go on and on but that wouldn't leave much time for us to talk, would it? So I will start with something familiar, and soon you will discover how mind-blowingly different some of Angus's groundbreaking ideas are. But first, the amazingly familiar part… Copy is powerful. You're responsible for how you use what you hear on this podcast. Most of the time, common sense is all you need. But if you make extreme claims... and/or if you're writing copy for offers in highly regulated industries like health, finance, and business opportunity... you may want to get a legal review after you write and before you start using your copy. My larger clients do this all the time. 1. A lot of people in the direct marketing community have felt boxed-in by the conventional wisdom that the only true kind of story is a hero's journey. I believe you have a very different point of view about stories, that includes that anatomy of the brain. Could you tell us about it? 2. Let's talk about primal intelligence. When I first found out about your book and before I read it, my guess about primal intelligence was, well, pretty primal. Lizard brain stuff. That is, the animal description that you either mate with something, or you kill it, or you eat it. You have a different and I think much more sophisticated and I would say much more useful definition of primal intelligence and it has to do with four qualities of thinking that have nothing to do with logic. Could you talk about that? 3. Our listeners are copywriters and business owners who use direct response copy in their businesses. Pragmatic creativity is high on the list of capabilities people always want to increase. Could you share your thoughts on what creativity is, from the point of view of primal intelligence? And how to increase our abilities to be creative? 4. In your book there's a surprisingly long list of people, including politicians, scientists and even a famous classical composer, as well as writers, who have mentioned Shakespeare as a major influence in their lives. What is it about Shakespeare's work that is so valuable to all these people? 5. Can you give us some more tips about using stories in our content and advertising that will capture people's attention and help us with our businesses? 6. Tell us about your work with Army special operators? 7. Would you like to give us a preview of the book Primal Intelligence?
