Telesco was hired in 2013 and was responsible for drafting and signing some of the team's best players, such as Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen, Joey Bosa, Derwin James, and Austin Ekeler. He also made some savvy trades and free agent acquisitions, such as bringing in Chris Harris Jr., Linval Joseph, and Jared Cook. However, Telesco also had his share of misses and mistakes, such as drafting Mike Williams, Forrest Lamp, Jerry Tillery, and Kenneth Murray in the first round, failing to address the offensive line and the secondary for years, and letting go of Philip Rivers, Melvin Gordon, Hunter Henry, and Casey Hayward. He also hired and fired three head coaches in his tenure: Mike McCoy, Anthony Lynn, and Brandon Staley. We will examine the good, the bad, and the ugly of Telesco's 11 years at the helm of the Chargers, and how his decisions shaped the team's fortunes and failures. In this episode, we break down the 2023 roster of our division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders. The outlook of this team points to them finishing last in the AFC West with 5-6 total wins. They swapped QB Derek Carr, who holds numerous team passing records, for the often-injured Jimmy Garoppalo. They are struggling to come to terms on a long-term contract with RB Josh Jacobs, who is currently franchised tagged. They added to their wide receiver that already included Davante Adams, and traded away their star tight end Darren Waller. The offensive line is the same starting five from a season ago and should gel better than the previous season. Defensively is where this roster starts to fall apart. Maxx Crosby is a bonafide defensive player of the year candidate, and the drafting of edge rusher Tyree Wilson will pay dividends in future years, but there are question marks with Jerry Tillery, Bilal Nichols, and a large number of young interior talent fighting for a roster spot. Devine Diablo is a breakout candidate, but a combination of Robert Spillane, Luke Masterson, and Darian Beavers shows the weakness of this position. Waller's salary, injury history and play all contributed to the need to move on. Another factor was his supposed beef with Maxx Crosby, Josh McDaniels and the rest of the team. Los Angeles Chargers vs Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card round of the 2023 NFL Playoffs will hopefully bring a LA Chargers playoff win! Justin Herbert played that game injured as it was his first game after the Kansas City Chiefs game where he suffered a rib cartilage injury. Austin Ekeler and Sony Michel were the teams RBs and they ran for a combined 26 yards, and the Chargers run defense with Drue Tranquil, Sebastian Joseph-Day, and the loss of Jerry Tillery has improved since the Week 3 loss to JAX. Trevor Lawrence and the Jags offense had a pretty good game against the Chargers in Week 3 when they last played and beat the LA Chargers 38-10. The Jaguars defense has been playing very well recently getting them in a better position to be a playoff team and contender to go deep in the playoffs.
