On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including how with all the resources allocated to the Buffalo Bills defense through free agency and now the draft, it better be a unit that looks dramatically better in 2025.Since the 2024 season ended with an AFC title game loss at Arrowhead against Kansas City, the Bills notable offensive changes have consisted of signing Josh Palmer and Laviska Shenault while letting Mack Hollins and Amari Cooper walk. They failed to add a wide receiver until the seventh round of this latest NFL draft and did grab a primarily blocking tight end late in the fifth. Meanwhile they signed Joey Bosa, Larry Ogunjobi, Michael Hoecht, Darrick Forrest, Tre White and and Dane Jackson in free agency. They then proceeded to use their first five picks and six of the first seven on defense in the draft. It's essentially an entire defensive makeover from last year. That's fine, but as the guys discuss it better lead to consistently positive changes because if it doesn't, especially come January it should be a direct indictment against Brandon Beane, Sean McDermott, Bobby Babich and other defensive coaches. They also spend some time talking Joe's trip to Western New York over the past week, including meeting up with Patrick at Resurgence Brewing last Thursday for a Bills draft party and live podcast afterwards. That plus another Mt. Flushmore, fan comments and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. (10:50) Zo and Beetle continue to discuss the Milton Williams deal and weigh the pros and cons of bringing him into New England. (33:37) The guys finish out the hour by recapping the Patriots’ first day of the ‘legal tampering’ period.
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran offers plenty of live reaction from day one of the NFL free agency tampering period as it pertains both to the Buffalo Bills and around the NFL.The Bills made their first move of free agency on Monday on offense, inking former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Josh Palmer to a three-year deal worth a reported $36 million. They followed that up by inking defensive lineman Michael Hoecht to a three-year deal worth a reported $24 million.Palmer's stats with the Chargers have been pretty pedestrian throughout his four year career, catching 39 passes for 584 yards and a touchdown last year. While his general stats are hardly impressive Patrick elaborates on why he was calling for this signing literally as recently as yesterday's show, explaining how plenty of metrics demonstrate that he's the type of receiver the Bills lack and could really use right now in this offense that was historical. As far Hoecht, Patrick admits to not knowing much at all about him but runs off some facts for him and feels better about the addition after seeing some plugged in Bills content creators having been supportive of the signing before free agency started.Patrick also has thoughts on while everyone wants the Bills to add star players and they very well still may, it was their role players and some of those contributions that were a major reason Buffalo had such a great season in 2024, saying Palmer's presence could be along the lines of great contributors from last year like Ty Johnson, Mack Hollins, Alec Anderson, Dorian Williams and others.Patrick also talks about what he's happy and not happy about in regards to where the Bills stand early on in free agency---where he thinks the Bills should've went with some decisions and still may going forward. That plus thoughts on some of the bigger signings around the league, the New England Patriots making a lot of noise and plenty more.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBBlue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.socialInstagram: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast

Alex Barth reacts to the Patriots signing Mack Hollins, who was the team's first wide receiver signed in this year's free agency class.
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for a Buffalo Bills free agency preview and some bold predictions as the craziest week of the NFL offseason gets underway.Bills general manager Brandon Beane has been busy in advance of Monday's start of free agency, locking up core pieces Greg Rousseau, Terrel Bernard and Khalil Shakir to long term four-year extensions before the biggest one Sunday evening---locking up Josh Allen on a six-year deal that gives him the highest guaranteed dollar amount in NFL history, $250 million.. They also said goodbye to Von Miller on Sunday morning as well. The guys have reaction to all of the big moves Buffalo's made leading to free agency. They also spend plenty of time talking about possibilities at some of the positions most obvious the Bills will be looking to upgrade and fortify--- defensive edge, defensive tackle, cornerback, wide receiver and possibly safety. Plenty of pretty well known names are out there and there's also some guys that could be great lowkey fits. Also, Patrick has a slew of Bills free agency predictions, including the possibility of a trade for Trey Hendrickson and Joe has some takes of his own. 9:30AM Hour 4 Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase dive into the wide receiver market in the NFL following some key pieces finding a home over the weekend. The guys pose the question of which receiver from last years team, Mack Hollins or Amari Cooper?
The NFL's new league year kicks off on Wednesday, March 12, and that's when free agents can officially sign with new teams. Who should the Buffalo Bills chase in free agency and which players of their own should they try to keep? Spectrum News 1's Andy Young and Kevin Carroll preview the upcoming free agency period with some names to keep an eye on. Talking points include Amari Cooper, Mack Hollins, Ty Johnson, Rasul Douglas, Dawuane Smoot, Damar Hamlin, Davante Adams, Chris Godwin, DK Metcalf, Dionte Johnson, Christian Kirk, Hollywood Brown, Darius Slayton, Khalil Mack, Myles Garrett and more.
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for their weekly chat and the focus today is on 10 very big questions Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills are pondering as they get ready to attack free agency beginning on March 10. Last year's strategy due primarily to economics was very straightforward. The Bills shed a lot of salary by jettison several players who were leaders and part of their core, a list that included names like Jordan Poyer, Tre White, Mitch Morse and Stefon Diggs. It was a very low-key free agency spearheaded by the additions of Mack Hollins and Curtis Samuel. Things turned out wonderfully for Buffalo despite the mostly "uneventful" offseason from Beane and company. The expectation around league circles is different this time around. The Bills are expected to put some serious resources into a few positions, very likely on the defensive line above all else. Prior to there's several questions in need of discussing which the guys do, among them being what to do with Von Miller, is Daquan Jones addition by subtraction at this point of his career, what's their plan for attack at cornerback and what's their level of faith in safety Cole Bishop going into year two? Also, Matt has thoughts on what the price should be that Beane's willing to pay to acquire a Myles Garrett or Max Crosby if either player is actually available. That plus a few other Bills questions, where Rams quarterback Matt Stafford may end up this season and tons more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren (SB Nation) to discuss some potential Buffalo Bills running back and wide receiver candidates should the Bills end up deciding to dip their toes there in the upcoming NFL free agency market. While it feels like the Bills are pretty set at both those positions, that's at least potentially not accurate. Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins are both scheduled to become free agent wide receivers come March 10 and if the Bills lose one or especially both, they may need to turn to the open market to replenish. That goes the same for running back if they can't re-sign popular backup Ty Johnson. There's even a scenario where maybe Brandon Beane decides he's not going to deal with any potential James Cook drama and looks to trade the star, perhaps as part of a big trade package. In any event the guys go over several possibilities at both position, ranging from intriguing younger prospects to veterans where you're almost certain you'll know what you're getting. They also spend some time discussing an article from Mike Sando of The Athletic that suggested the Bills are going to have urgency to make a big splash this offseason if they're to overtake the Kansas City Chiefs or stay ahead of the Baltimore Ravens, referencing a situation the Oakland Raiders found themselves in back in the 1970's. That plus some thoughts on a few teams around the league and much more. Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran moves past the disappointing of the Buffalo Bills losing in the AFC championship to focus on plenty of reasons the team and fans have to celebrate a successful 2024 season. Losing to the Chiefs for the fourth time in five years was and remains a bitter pillow to swallow for sure. That said, there's a lot of things that went well enough for Buffalo to be able to look back on fondly. Patrick hits on a lot of those things, including a team that tied a franchise record for most wins in a season, went undefeated at home for the first time since 1991 and just the third time in team history, tied a NFL record by scoring at least 30 points in eight straight games and leading the AFC in points differential. Josh Allen probably won't win MVP but Patrick has maintained he deserves it. He spends a segment explaining exactly why, highlighting his ability to do more with less in 2024 and often saving his best games and moments for the biggest stages. He also talks about the offensive line being every bit as good as it was last year, Brandon Beane making mostly right moves with in-house evaluations during the offseason and Mack Hollins turning into a great free agent addition. That plus some quick thoughts on Myles Garrett requesting a trade, Lindsey Moppert departing WGRZ-TV and much more. Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for plenty of Buffalo Bills and NFL talk on the final episode of Talking Buffalo for 2024. The Bills are locked into the second seed in the AFC after smashing the Jets last Sunday and will surely be resting most of their starters in Sunday's finale at Foxboro on Sunday. Of course, the Patriots are currently locked into to the first pick of the 2025 NFL draft so their incentive to win may not be the greatest either. Still, there's plenty of worthy talking points surrounding Buffalo and how this week gets handled and beyond. Among them discussed is linebacker Matt Milano, who Patrick think played far and away the best of his four games against New York last week. Matt Warren has thoughts on if the version we saw on Sunday is good enough to feel confident in starting over Dorian Williams in the wildcard round when the playoffs begin. Both also have thoughts on how much if at all Milano should play against the Patriots--weighing one final tune up against the chance of getting hurt again. The guys also hit on Von Miller playing very well last week, Mack Hollins continuing to be a great addition to the team, potential concern about Damar Hamlin's prolonged absence and if they're getting Josh Allen vs Lamar Jackson for MVP debate fatigue. That plus projecting what Bills will make the Pro Bowl, some of their favorite 2024 NFL storylines around the league and much more. Hope everyone listening has a blessed 2025! Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. We consider them THE most underrated spot for wings, pizza and other great food in Western New York plus it's a great place to drink and have a great time. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Blue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.social Instagram: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills topics, including spotlighting some of the role players that have been making this 2024 season special. Josh Allen has been playing out of his mind and is a clear-cut frontrunner for MVP. He's not only a star in Buffalo but one of the biggest in the league if not all of sports. There's other "star" players on this team too but it's been the heavy contribution of several role/complimentary players that've allowed them to win 10 of their first 12 games. Some of the players specifically discussed by Patrick and Matt include Mack Hollins, Taylor Rapp, Dawson Knox, Dorian Williams, Ray Davis, Austin Johnson and Alec Anderson. They also talk about the job head coach Sean McDermott and wonder if McDermott's evolved both professionally and personally in regards to his relationships with the team over the past year. That plus realizing the Bills have been better off because of last offseason's departures, a look around the AFC and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblings for your (really good) daily Bills content. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Blue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.social Instagram: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over his biggest Buffalo Bills takeaways from Week 10 after watching the film and going over grade analysis of the Bills 30-20 road victory at Indianapolis on Sunday to improve to 8-2 on the season. Part of Patrick's early focus is highlighting the effort of two low key players who's worth ethic and under the radar contributions are a big reason why Buffalo's won eight times in 10 tries so far this season. Dorian Williams showed off his best trait (speed) and hustle to prevent what would've been a Jonathan Taylor touchdown run, with the play ultimately saving the Bills four points. On the other side of the ball, Mack Hollins stepped up big with both Amari Cooper and Keon Coleman out with injuries, hauling in four passes for 86 yards, by far his best game as a Buffalo Bills. Patrick also talks about the Bills getting away with game that was far from Josh Allen's best and dives into some of Allen's gaffes. Part of the reason the offense was still fine was the effective physical nature of James Cook. Also the "everybody eats" mantra extended to the defensive side of the ball as well. Four takeaways by four Bills defenders, not to mention six different defenders had a tackle for a loss. Patrick discusses being impressed with the Bills defense being more aggressive this week and clearly opportunistic each time the Colts made a mistake--speaking of which there's a breakdown of some of their biggest that made the game less stressful than it needed to be. That plus Matt Milano should be returning soon (!), a few quick hitters, some comments on the Buffalo Sabres after a frustrating matinee loss and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Buffalo Bills beat reporter Matt Parrino to go over their biggest Week Nine takeaways following the Buffalo Bills exciting victory over Miami on Sunday in addition to a conversation about athlete parenting and more. It certainly wasn't easy facing a Dolphins team that knew any slim chance they had of getting back into the AFC east race hinged on them upsetting the Bills in Orchard Park. In the end though, Tyler Bass set a franchise-record with a 61 yard game-winning field goal and the Bills not only improved to 7-2 but put themselves where they'd need a total face plant to not win their fifth consecutive AFC east crown. Matt's as entrenched with covering the team full time and has thoughts on many of Patrick's biggest takeaways from this week, including the wild (wild!) ride Tyler Bass went on, Sean McDermott showing confidence in a spot other coaches probably wouldn't have, Josh Allen staying patience paying off, a tip of the cap to Mack Hollins and focusing on a defense that other than a singular Taron Johnson effort got largely dismantled by the Miami offense. In particular Patrick thought the defensive tackle play led by Ed Oliver was extremely lousy. Does Matt agree? The guys also have a discussion about how protective parents of athletes can be and sometimes go a little overboard. Patrick feels that's the case recently after a social media incident involving him and Damar Hamlin's father. Matt shares his thoughts and the guys talk about relating to the parent in most cases. That and plenty more!
