Show Summary: . Jessica Bearden works as a Licensed Professional Counselor just outside Houston, Texas. She has experience working with both court-ordered and voluntary substance abuse clients. She is the host of the Session in Progress: Bible Devotionals podcast, where she encourages listeners with short "no-fluff" Bible teachings. She spends her free time with her husband and twin toddlers. . I've known Jessica since she was in eight grade and I was only a few months out of prison. My good friend and pastor, as well as my Bible Quiz coach in high school, asked me to coach the teen Bible Quiz team at our church when I was released from prison. I wondered what parents would think if they knew a convicted felon was coaching their kid. As it turns out, there was only three kids, my pastor's two boys, and Jessica Price. I had no idea who this kid was but she was a feisty little eighth grader. . Through competition I got to know Jessica's dad, Rob Price, and the rest is history. Our families have been friends ever since. I had the privilege of watching Jessica grow into a godly woman, wife, and mother. She has a heart of gold and so much wisdom and insight into helping people recover from addiction. Make sure you listen to her podcast, Session in Progress, and follow her on Instagram. Deroir is an ad producer and former Guild Wars 2 content creator. He's well-known for his fractal guides, lore analyses, as a podcast guest, and for having a set of legendary gear for each of Guild Wars 2's nine player classes. Beginning in 2019, he took a step back from the game to focus on other calls to adventure. In this discussion, Deeg and Deroir range widely, talking about Guild Wars 2's history, the relationships players form with games, depression, and content creation. They also take an extended trip down memory lane to revisit and reflect on the July 5, 2018 firings of Jessica Price and Peter Fries from ArenaNet, and the events that precipitated that sad day.
Running a bookstore means I have to wear many hats. Most people think it's all relaxing, bookish delights in the bookstore biz, and whereas that is true sometimes, there is a crazy amount of work behind the scenes to make it all flow smoothly. One of the things we rely on is getting new books from publishers that we can count on. Ordering new books for customers seems like a no-brainer, but not all book distributors or publishers are created equal, my Friend. It can sometimes be a tedious and exhausting chase for a title or a delivery ETA that is acceptable to our customers. That is why I am so grateful to have found Jessica Price at Ampersand Inc., one of the companies that provide books and puzzles that make our readers happy. I can always count on them, and knowing that they share a close business relationship with our favorite (and incredibly reliable) book distributor, Raincoast Books, means I have even more reason to appreciate them. What does a Sales Rep do? What makes her job especially grand? Listen here to find out! Our bookstore offers audiobooks which you can listen to on your iPhone, Android device, or PC. Dylan is joined by Patrick Klepek — senior reporter at Waypoint and champion of The Quiet Man. Patrick discusses his thoughts on a previous article he wrote about being both an Internet personality and a reporter, his relationship with his fans, and the eternal search for authenticity, as seen in things like the Thrillist article about trying to find the best burger in America. (We’d also be remiss if we didn’t include this additional information that came about about the owner of Stanich’s — the restaurant discussed in the Thrillist piece — and his history of domestic abuse.) We also talk about the continued democratization of both games media and game development; Jessica Price’s article, “In search of real criticism," and our rejection of the idea that there is no good contemporary games criticism; and Patrick’s favorite games he’s played this year as well as his personal spin on a game of the year list. Games include The Quiet Man, Yoku’s Island Express, Moss, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, and Vampyr. Got a question for the show? Join us on Discord or email us at contact@ward-games.com!

This week, it’s all about stolen APCs, flixel-likes and flixel lites, making music with Beepbox, using our P-balls, and also: video games! We exchange gripes we have with some of our favorite game franchises — from Monster Hunter to Fallout — and go in deep into some new games we’ve been trying out. But the biggest topic of discussion is of course the firing of ArenaNet employees Jessica Price and Peter Fries, a controversy that merges sexism, toxic fandom, harassment, and workers’ rights all into one. We discuss how this affects the relationship between players and developers and how it shows how the games industry still has a long way to go to combat harassment. Games include Monster Hunter Stories, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Overwatch, Mario Tennis Aces, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Batman: The Enemy Within.
