The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Good on Wednesday morning has been identified through court documents from a June incident in Bloomington. NPR has confirmed that Jonathan Ross is the ICE officer who shot and killed Good as she was driving away from a group of agents on Portland Avenue.The Department of Homeland Security has not released Ross' name, but DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said that the same agent who killed Good had been dragged by a car in an incident last year. Hundreds of protestors marched down Lake Street Thursday night in a peaceful demonstration against ICE. The shooting this week is just the latest in a series of traumatic events in the state. Daniel Griffith is pastor and rector of the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. He says the Twin Cities are dealing with collective trauma, following the assassination of state lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, and the Annunciation school shooting. But he says it's important to maintain hope.

From cozy throw blankets and pet sweaters to pickleball paddles and “Get Carded” T-shirts, there’s something for every library lover. The shop, designed by library staff, features six themed collections, including merch for the bookmobile and holiday gifts. Proceeds? They go straight back into library programs like the Summer Reading Program and Teen Book’d. “This isn’t just about selling stuff,” said Sandra Morris, the foundation’s executive director. “It’s about building a bridge between the library and the community.” Shop now at cobblibrary.shop. STORY 2: Powder Springs man charged in fatal shooting of mother and stepfather A tragic scene unfolded in Powder Springs on Saturday, where a man is accused of fatally shooting his mother and stepfather. Police arrived at a home on Yoshino Terrace around 12:30 p.m. after a domestic disturbance call. Inside, they found Monica Brookins, 72, and John Wells, 73, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital, neither survived. The suspect? Martin Duberry, 31—Brookins’ son and Wells’ stepson—who also lived in the home. He’s now facing two counts of murder, eight counts of aggravated battery, and a firearm charge, according to authorities. A heartbreaking loss for the family and community. STORY 3: Kennesaw "Holly Days" parade spreads holiday cheer   Downtown Kennesaw was buzzing with holiday cheer as the Holly Days parade rolled through, bringing floats, marching bands, dancers, and, of course, Santa Claus himself. The parade, with over 50 entries, started at Adams Park and wound its way down Watts Drive and Main Street. Kennesaw Mayor Derek Easterling stole the show, pedaling a tricycle decked out in Christmas lights and decorations, waving to the crowd in his festive suit. The parade wasn’t just for spectators. Performers like Sophia Allsen, a North Cobb High color guard member, said marching in the cold was worth it. “Seeing everyone’s smiles makes it all worthwhile,” she said. The festivities wrapped up with Santa waving from his sleigh float, followed by photos in Depot Park. The Braves legend fell short again on Sunday, earning just six of the 12 votes needed from the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee. It’s the same result as 2022, leaving fans and supporters—who’ve rallied around him for years—disappointed but undeterred. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you,” Murphy wrote on X before the announcement, overwhelmed by the outpouring of love. “Words can’t describe how much this support means.” Murphy’s career? A mix of brilliance and heartbreak. Seven All-Star nods, back-to-back MVPs in ’82 and ’83, 398 homers, five Gold Gloves. But injuries slowed him, and his Hall of Fame case has always been a debate. For now, the wait goes on. STORY 5: Senior living development advances  The Cobb County Planning Commission gave the green light to a 16-home senior living development in southwest Cobb—unanimously, no less. The project, proposed by Atlanta-based Romusa Properties, would rezone 3.29 acres on West Sandtown Road, right by Mud Creek Soccer Complex. The plan? Build attached homes, at least 1,800 square feet each, with brick, stone, and cedar shake exteriors. Pretty traditional, but cozy. There’s also a recreational area and a mail kiosk in the mix, plus a mandatory HOA and private streets. No objections, no drama—it sailed through. Next stop: Cobb Board of Commissioners on Dec. 16. Break: STORY 6: Marietta celebrates girls cross country team’s sixth state championship    The Marietta High girls cross country team took a well-earned victory lap Friday—on a bus, through the entire school district. Why? Six straight state championships. Six. Decked out in bright pink shirts, the 21 runners stopped at all 12 schools, greeted by cheering students, handmade signs, pom-poms, and blaring anthems like “We Are the Champions.” High-fives everywhere. Superintendent Grant Rivera led the charge, calling the team an “inspiration.” Senior Mary Nesmith, a two-time state champ herself, said, “It’s so special seeing the little kids. They’re so sweet.” The tour ended with Mayor Steve Tumlin’s proclamation. Six titles—and counting. The move follows “Wesley’s Law,” passed last year, which req ======uires schools to stock naloxone and train staff to use it. We’ll have closing comments after this. For this episode, I had originally planned on telling multiple, shorter stories. Then I read one article:GI's plead not guilty in murder hearingsTwo Ft. Lewis soldiers pleaded innocent in Superior Court today to unrelated first-degree murder charges stemming from the deaths last week of another soldier and a 28 year old Graham housewife. Steven Paul Criss, 19, offered his plea in the slaying last Thursday of Jacob Kim Brown, 22, an Army infantryman, whose bullet-riddled body was found in a ditch near Roy later in the day. Brown was reported to have left his Olympia home to meet a man for discussion of a debt. Trial of Criss was scheduled for November 29 by Judge James V. Ramsdell, who refused to set bail. Also pleading innocent was Sgt. 1C Richard Michael Wallingford, 33, of E. Madison St. who was accused of the gunshot slaying last Wednesday of Cindy Ann Barajas of 119th Ave E. Graham. Mrs. Barajas had been shot in the back of the head. Wallingford, whose arraignment was continued last Friday when he appeared in court in an apparently dissociative state, was scheduled for trial November 22. Bail was denied. Attorneys told the court Friday that the defendant had refused to give authorities anything more than his name, rank and service serial number. Putting those key names into the Newspapers.com search engine, I was able to find the details surrounding both unusual cases and decided I would tell those stories. Alex Station, the Virtual War on Al-Qaeda, and the Struggle for Presidential Attention Liza Mundy Book: The Sisterhood: The Secret History of Women at the CIA Following the 1993 World Trade Center attack and the fatal shooting of two CIA officers, the Counterterrorism Center created "Alec Station" (named after a CIA officer's son). Alec Station was a "virtual station" created during a period of CIA resource loss ("peace dividend"). It represented a novel collaboration of analysts and clandestine operatives working in the headquarters basement to track and understand Osama bin Laden's network. Women analysts, including Cindy Storer and Barbara Sude, developed new skills in "manhunting" and targeting, sometimes directing field operatives. Cindy Storer recognized that al-Qaeda was a meticulous worldwide organization, not a mere confederation. However, the group's key struggle was gaining traction: they faced resistance from senior leaders (like those on the Soviet desk who feared losing funding) and could not consistently persuade editors to include their warnings about bin Laden in the President's Daily Brief (PDB).
